True. But finding matches that will last is the issue.
Most of the striker surfaces on the match box lose function well before the matches are gone.

The only decent stick matches Ive found are UCO brand.

Of course, there's also more than one way to light a match. A magnifying glass, for example.

I just discovered you can buy replacement
match striking surface with adhesive on the back side. It is NOT merely a gritty surface. It is the SAME STUFF that is on the side of the matchbook or matchbox. It will work with ANY MATCH. You can cut it to size you need.

The strike anywhere matches got neutered years back and I still liked them better than regular matches. I have a few put back and never worried about it much.

I have not gone through this thread all the way again but refillable lighters are useful, especially the bar b que long reach version. Learn how to look at em to see if they are refillable and of course you need to be able to buy a refill bottle and no I did not go search for that either.

On a lot of refillable stuff now you can not change the flint out, but use what you can from what you got.

I still keep some zippos and parts around just because I expect that might be the last method of making fire in the dark.

Stopped at the tractor dealer ship for bush hog blades. The parts girl told hubby they are having a hard time getting parts for Mahindra and Cub Cadet tractors and mowers. No bush hog blades in yet either

Thanks for posting this. Our mower is in the shop, and now we know we likely won't be seeing it for a while. Sigh.

When you can get a new bbq lighter for a dollar, why refill?
Actually I just last week, got a TWO pack of 'em for $1.50 at Walmart, cheaper than the dollar store!
I spent $4.50 for SIX of them.

Lots of options on the amazon. They show in stock for me.
These are the NEW strike anywhere matches. The OLD school matches are loooong gone. The old school kind truly lit ANYWHERE on ANYTHING. Any rough surface could be used: a side walk, sand paper, cast iron and last but not least your zipper. Ah the good old days . . . when the government didn't feel the need for so much control.

Dog-O'-My-Heart (30 lbs.) likes to chew on shed antlers, which are slightly cheaper than the dining room chairs she used to prefer. Petco was wiped clean of every size but Fetal Chihuahua. Clerk didn't know what was holding up the supply, or when more would be in stock. Had to make Bezos richer.

From what I’ve read, the chemical on the “neutered” matches degrades over a period of time. It’s not phosphorus anymore.

To add to the rest of personal reports here, today one of our clients came in for dog meds. Got to chatting like always and come to find out he own a mechanic car alignment business. 30 years now.
Any way, he said it’s been terrible out there due to not being able to get the parts he needs. What used to be brought in, in less than three hours of him ordering it now takes up to two days... lots of things along those lines in his story. He went on to mention anything we commonly get from China is just not happening , especially things like furnaces and big ticket items.

Well, I'm glad I can sew, and have a lot of fabric stocked up! For some reason, we can't find the container with all my summer clothes in it! So, I've been stuck wearing 2 t-shirts, and jeans. I decided to go to Tractor Supply and pick up half a dozen basic crew t-shirts. Yeah, right! They literally didn't have a single t-shirt in ANY style in my size (women's small or medium)!

Also, hubby mentioned that he just grabbed the last of the new jeans in the preps. They were Blue Mountain brand, which Tractor Supply sells. I remembered I paid $11 for them on sale. Well... they had some in his size (up yeah, I need to stock up again...the move really out a crimp in prepping for the last year), but they were "on sale" for $31! Darned near triple- in about 8 months!

Next week, I need to set up my sewing machines and get busy!

Went into town yesterday and went by our local Ford Dealer. The lot was almost bare. Decided to go to the other Chevy Dealer and they were the same. Hope nobody needs a new vehicle here soon.

We drove past a Chevy dealer yesterday, and it was the same....at least half empty, if not more.

All the dealerships around here are looking skimp except Toyota. (Ford, GM, Nissan, Honda)

They are spacing cars into groups to fill in the blank spaces.

Also, car parts are getting scarcer. We are having trouble getting specific parts for some vehicles.

Some have to be ordered from the manufacturer and that costs the customers extra shipping.

Talked to a honda dealer parts man.

Said they are having trouble getting parts that are usually readily available. (Water pumps, Timing kits, etc)

You have to wonder what all of those containers are holding? Chinese troops perhaps?

I am so glad I have a 15 year old truck. Parts are a lot easier. Just got a new set of taillights in under 4 days. Regular ground.

I was at the Cabelas store in Delaware 2 weeks ago. I couldn't find Carhartt brand jeans anywhere. I found an employee and he pointed me to a very small rack of them and said "That's all we have." I said "You're serious?!?!" He said "Yep. We just can't get them anymore." The rack literally had about 25 pairs of jeans TOTAL on it, of all the different varieties they make. I was lucky and found one pair in my size - not in a style I would normally wear. But I considered myself lucky and bought it anyways.

Pre-covid, this section would normally take up an entire wall, 6+ feet high and about 20 feet wide, different styles and sizes, with probably hundreds of pairs of jeans. Those days are long gone apparently.

I have a 2003 Ford 6.0 F-350 which is in great shape I would not trade it for a new truck.

I believe there is going to be a big uptick in car's thief's and trucks.

I am very protected of my truck.

Yes they are.

Noticed how you also compromised on what you needed. I have noticed the same darn thing in myself and the wife. A year ago, we would have fought tooth and nail to be sure we got exactly what we wanted. Now we have changed. I really don't like it. But I am afraid we all have.

We have accepted the first step to living in a communist world. SHORTAGES

Yup. I drive a '97 Toyota 4Runner. My mechanic has the exact same vehicle, so he knows where to source all the parts. Not a lot of competition for them, and most are already at or near the end point of the supply chain.

I just got back from a run to Lowes to pickup some lumber to finish up a couple projects.
Plenty of lumber in the racks of all types. Talking to one of the employees about the high price of lumber and he told me a lot of contractors are switching to metal studs because it was cheaper than wood. A lot of people with home projects are putting things on hold because of high prices. Lowes is starting to feel the effects.
No lumber coming out of Canada due to high trade tariffs.

Added note I was the only person in the lumber section and very little traffic in the other part of the store.
For a holiday weekend that was spooky. The calm before the storm me thinks.

Local Wally World area no longer stocking automotive spark plugs, they said just too many differences. Local parts store had to order a cabin filter, did not stock it. Spark plugs for my GMC pickup are $9 each (Delco).

I noticed the “Chinese electronic” selection on Amazon has diminished significantly. For years I have loved a particular brand of Bluetooth earbuds. I’m always listening to audiobooks and I go through a pair every six months or so. They’re not expensive, around $15. I’ve bought them in many different colors for myself, my friends for gifts, etc.

My cat chewed through my hubby’s pair last week, and I thought maybe it might be good to stock up on a few extra pair. But I can’t. They aren’t available. For years they had 10 different colors, but now they’re not available at all.

I looked for a couple of other brands I know, and nope. Not available either.

It’s clear availability of cheap Chinese crap is a thing of the past.

I got disgusted with the "usual suspect" brands falling apart after the first washing, watched the sales and coupons, (sign up for their emails!) and ordered from Duluth Trading Co. These ought to wear like iron and last 5 years.

Also a good source for those normally looking for Carhartts or better brand work clothes. I ordered up jeans and t-shirts a couple months ago to avoid the coming tight market.

Was at cvs today and saw a 4 pack of toilet paper on sale for $5.49 said that has to be wrong. Went to Walmart and it was over $80.00 for 2 large pkg of paper towels and 2 of tp Wally World brand. And they are the cheapest place in our town. I predict men will start carrying hankies and bandannas as tissues will be to expensive. And we will be able to tell our grandkids we were so rich when we were young we used to “tp” a house for fun and use at least 6 rolls to make it look good.
