Admiral and kids went to Sioux City today to get new basketball shoes for our son (size 12). There were no basketball shoes to be found. They tried every sporting goods store in town. Not only no size 12s, none. Fortunately he found some he liked online and got them ordered, hopefully they fit right. I order my Ariats online because they all fit the same, but I refuse to order any style I haven't tried on online.

Yeah, we have a female cat that we need to get fixed. Her appointment is late February. Bizarre!
We are all severely backed up. Everybody went out and bought pets during COVID, oftentimes several. Vets are so backed up, overworked, and stressed out, it will only get worse before it gets better.

What I really fear is when the economy makes a nose dive, and all those "comfort" pets get dumped and/or neglected.

Heads up from a local auto parts perspective.

Parts availability is gradually getting worse.

Particularly, quality front end suspension components and specific oil weights.

Some parts are on national back order (unobtainable).

Im not saying our shelves are emptying but it seems to be headed that way.

Just today, a mechanic came in today and said he couldnt get a specific steering component for a particular 2006 vehicle, anywhere (not even online).
He was frustrated.

I would suggest buttoning up car and truck repairs, and maybe grab a few oil changes worth of oil and filters.

Tractor supply still have 5 gallon buckets of motor oil, I bought 3 today.

and dont get picky with oil, oil is oil, might be a few different additives, but any will work in your motor,

My grandpa told me during the depression, they would sell jars of drain oil,

as a mechanic. Ive worked on cars with over 50,000 miles on the oil, owner had just kept on adding more when they need it .

Today, from just nosing around locally for Christmas odds n ends;

Women’s socks, all kinds.
Christmas tree lights, all sizes, color/clear.

Paper goods of all kinds. Including wrapping paper and festive bags.

Soft drinks. All kinds, but mostly (!!) Diet Coke. -it’s just gone in the two liter size. Oh, oops, that should go on the food thread sorry.

Either people swooped on early this year or there’s just not much to choose from. It feels really strange seeing these empty items all gone in THIS town.
You’d have to live here to understand what I mean.
There’s more but I’ll have to think about it I’m tired, lol

Not that this counts for much in the grand scheme of things.....but I do Bible journaling, and planner decorating. It's relaxing. But I've not been happy with clumsy glues, or glue sticks that didn't work. So I saw a video using a brand called Barely Art glue, I went online to find a bottle. Great reviews, precision tips, no paper wrinkling. Put one in my Amazon cart two days ago, figured one bottle would last me a long time. Payday is this week, so no biggie. But as of this afternoon, there is no Barely Art brand glue to be had on Amazon. None.

Color me sad. :(

Had the opportunity to speak with a buddy of mine today who owns a heat/air service. He's like minded so we compare notes when we can. I asked him what the supply situation was for his company. Told me that it is bad, months and months of back orders for numerous parts. Contracts being cancelled due to price increases and lack of equipment. The local plumbing and electrical supply house is basically empty and unable to get more to restock. It's definitely impacting his business. Wanted to pass that along.

Was going to post the same. Some vary common HVAC ductwork is not available, it's just not there.

Since I can fabricate my own duct work, I'll be okay, if I can find paying customers.

2nd generation in this trade, it's never been this bad, since early 1960s that we know of.

Thought I'd mention. I bought several spare pairs of shoes back when we first started talking about the shoe shortage here on TB2k (back in May 2021 I believe). In October, the pair I was wearing was damaged and needed to be replaced, so I have been watching Amazon (& Academy, Walmart, etc.) to buy my size (a EEEE size), but the style/brand of shoe that I like has been out of stock since then. I just noticed that Amazon had "3" in stock, so I grabbed 2 of them (oddly cheaper than they were when I bought them in May). I did have the "alert me" set on the shoes but I did NOT get notified.

Keep watching for the items you need!

Due to the urea shortage, I believe supplies of other fertilizers will be affected, including what's sold for home gardens. So even though we are deep into winter here (snow on the ground, soil is frozen, nobody will think about working in gardens until March), I check out the gardening section at HD during my weekly shopping run. I've been able to score some phenomenal deals. Last month I got four bags of water-conserving crystal polymers (can't remember exactly what it's called) for $1 each, 90% off. Yesterday I bought 22 quarts of fish fertilizer (not something I normally use) again at 90% off, for $1 each. So it might be worth your while to check out the garden department even at this time of year. I'm also wondering if due to problems in the supply chain, some products will be discontinued. Then the stores discount them to get ready to put other products in their place.

Had to run to a Walmart yesterday evening in a Baltimore- suburb. (I hate that place) I didn't walk the whole store, but I was
rather surprised at how much they actually had. Some areas were really low on stock, like undershirts. And like discussed lately - shoes. Not many shoes/work boots, unless you wear a size 9 (tons of those for some reason). But overall they at least had stuff on the shelves.

Cousin just bought a house in North Carolina by the beach and hired a painter. Sherwin Williams didn't have their paint and gave them the name of several other brands they recommend. They are having the whole inside painted and crown molding installed. They are hoping the painter can get the paint and finish before mid Feb. They aren't sure that will happen.

Just called our long time veterinarian to make appt to have a "new to us" dog for shots and neutering.....next available appt is March 25th WOW
Just now seeing this, but you can buy the shots at the farm store and administer them yourself. A vet has to do rabies, but you can take care of distemper/parvo.

Yes, and if you get a new outside dog that hasn't been vaccinated, parvo (at least) really shouldn't be put off... it's too contagious, too deadly, and it lives in the soil for a *long* time.

Hubby has been putting off new struts on the Corolla and new ball joints on the Jeep. He's regretting it now because the parts are scarce and really expensive now. Live and learn.

Meant to put on my previous post... but forgot...

I have a relative in northeast Ohio that raises beef cattle, mostly for family. They raise them, asks around who wants 1/2 a cow, 1/4, etc. Then takes it to a local processor (small, family-owned) who butchers it, wraps it, etc. Then you go pick it up and pay the processor directly. I had let them know at the beginning of this Covid mess, that they needed to put some reservations waaaay in advance because of supply chain issues would be creeping in, they could always cancel, etc. They listened and did for various time this year. They let us know that a couple of those were coming up this spring ('22) and wanted to know who was "in".

While on the phone with the meat packer, she figured she would make a couple more reservations. THE NEXT AVAILABLE RESERVATIONS ARE NOT UNTIL 2023 !! The processor is apparently having one heck of a time keeping people employed because they get burned out and "can't handle the stress". (that was their quote but didn't elaborate) They made the appointments even that far out, but said they might have to change the way they raise their cows now. (not exactly sure what that means)

This is not a shortage but a big change in quality. I've bought gold toe crew socks for years and they always held up well. Last month I bought two packages for DH and was folding them yesterday and noticed the difference in quality in the older ones and the new ones. Sad.

I can't find the 'other shortages' thread, so I'll just post here.

Feed store run today, cattle protein tubs (25%) jumped from the mid $90s a few months ago to over $120. We don't use them often, just when we run into excessive heat/drought, or in winter with below freezing temps/frozen precip. They do help keeping condition up, we believe. They are used pretty commonly down our way. Fortunately we put a few away for summer when they were cheaper.

Trace mineral salt blocks are running around $8-$9, not long ago they were around $5. Haven't priced hay lately, thankfully our pasture grass is coming in nicely.

HIgher input costs will just increase beef prices going forward. Chicken feed prices are really, really going up quickly. Most I saw at Tractor Supply is over $22 for a 50lb bag. Local feed store is a bit lower, and we prefer to shop there to help keep them in business. The cost of raising/maintaining livestock just keeps going up.

I haven't done chickens for two years, had to move. My parents wanted to get into it, so I was setting them up. I was shocked at chicken feed.
I was paying like 17.99 for a 50 pound bag ( I think) back then... now it's 24.99 for a 40 pound bag NOT 50 pound bag.
I didn't really buy too much feed then because chickens eat left overs and free ranged during springs summer fall , but I did have it available for them especially during winter.

Was at a local baker today, his previous egg order cost $40, this weeks order $100.

Food as a weapon by design of democrats will cost more. They and their WEF @$$ hat masters want to use affordability to ‘nudge’ to eat what ‘they’ think you should.

Anything food related that stores imho should be bought in bulk because not only will food cost more but as the Brandon foreign policy initiatives continue to screw up the world the next stage will bring something we haven’t experienced in food since WW2, shortages.

The demo’s would luv luv luv to use the shortages to do what demos really like take centralized control and they will likely try to ‘control’ the shortages by using rationing.

The progressive rationing is like the CCP they ration yes for themselves, you get zilch.

Was at the auto parts store getting parts and wanted to pick up some brake pad grease as well (in foil packets usually racked next to cash register). The clerk couldn't find it at his register and all the others. Asked another clerk and he said they were all out. Spoke some more with this guy and he complained that some items were not being resupplied. Mentioned diesel oil. Said its been out of stock for 4 weeks and when they get resupply, its only a gallon or two.

3" x 7 gauge steel flat bar that I use for some things that I make was in the high $20 range last year. Two weeks ago I paid $38.59. I tried to have them quote 100 bars to get a better price yesterday, they said all but one steel mill stopped making it, some BS about no raw materials. New price $78 per bar. The metal now costs over double what I used to sell the finished product for.

Just a heads up- the sales rep from the box company we use to purchase shipping boxes gave hubby a heads up they are increasing the prices by 11%. This is a huge box company and will affect prices of products that are shipped.

They know that you REALLY WANT that steel, so they bump up the price. Find another middleman. And with the new one, don't give them a hint that you really want that steel.
