OK, I'm confused....Fox reporting after the one person died that is now a man....there are 4 confirmed cases and 50 people showing symptoms of Corona Virus in Washington state.

When did we get 4 in Washington?

Did you happen to notice that new intro music Fox plays when they show the Coronavirus graphic prior to reporting on it?

It sounds like something off the Lifetime movie network after the poor woman loses her husband, children, and Golden Retriever. Seriously, it drips melancholy. Where have you gone, Walter Cronkite?!

Official insights from Public Health – Seattle & King County staff
First death due to novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in a resident of King County
Posted by Sharon Bogan
Public Health – Seattle & King County, Washington State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are reporting today three presumptive positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), including one person who died.

Two of the confirmed cases are associated with LifeCare nursing facility in Kirkland, King County, Washington:
  • One is a health care worker from LifeCare. She is a woman in her 40’s, is currently in satisfactory condition at Overlake Hospital, and she has no known travel outside the United States.
  • The second case, a woman in her 70’s, is a resident at LifeCare and is in serious condition at EvergreenHealth Hospital.
  • In addition, over 50 individuals associated with LifeCare are reportedly ill with respiratory symptoms or hospitalized with pneumonia or other respiratory conditions of unknown cause and are being tested for COVID-19. Additional positive cases are expected.
The death occurred in a patient at EvergreenHealth Hospital but was not a resident of the long-term care facility.

Public Health – Seattle & King County is current working with LifeCare to provide care for ill patients while protecting uninfected patients. The CDC is sending a team of epidemiologists to King County to support our efforts to identify, isolate and test all of those who may be at risk because of these new cases.

Public Health is at the very beginning stages of this investigation and new details and information will emerge over the next days and weeks.

“This is a tragic loss of life and we share our heartfelt condolences with the family,” said Dr. Jeff Duchin, Health Officer for Public Health – Seattle & King County. “While the vast majority of cases of COVID-19 are believed to be mild, the virus can be a very serious infection that can lead to death. Protecting the health of our community and supporting the care of health care workers is our top priority.”

“I know this news is alarming, but we are doing everything possible to make sure the public is safe. Earlier today I declared an emergency proclamation directing state agencies to use all resources necessary to prepare for and respond to the outbreak. The best thing people can do to help is remain informed and take routine health precautions,” Gov. Jay Inslee said. “Our public health officials at the state, local and national levels are working diligently on this, coordinating efforts and keeping the public safe and informed.”

“We are fortunate to have one of the best public health agencies in the nation, and we are pulling all available resources into the fight against COVID-19. King County is reviewing all government operations, and we are standing up an Emergency Operations Center to respond appropriately across all agencies and public services. I urge businesses and families to plan and take precautions, referring to Public Health for best practices,” said King County Executive Dow Constantine.

If the government were merely incompetent, then, statistically, they should get things right at least half the time. I do not thknow hi they are batting that high, which indicates intentional malevolence, rather than stupidity...
Better check your stats. There a zillion ways of being wrong. Only one of being right.

That's what I'm thinking. Either they quarantine the staff there, or they set up some other site where the staff members can be individually quarantined to not cross-infect. But that becomes a big operation pretty quickly.

Word is out now. How many nursing home staff for other facilities will report to work for their next shift? Would you?

When I worked as a CNA at a nursing home, I was making minimum wage. And many of the care workers there were single moms. The RNs would lose their licenses if they left, but there is usually only one or two of them on at any given time. But the aides, who are doing all the personal care for the patients? There is very little downside for them to just leave. Especially if they fear infecting their families, etc.

Though so far there seems to be little risk with children, many of the care workers are English as a Second Language folks, so they may not be all that read up on the subject.

Authored by Ben Hunt via EpsilonTheory.com,

I believe that a healthy society should not have only one voice.
- Li Wenliang, Wuhan physician, born October 12, 1986, died February 7, 2020.
Last night, I received a Twitter DM that included screenshots of an email that went out to staff at the UC Davis Medical Center. After checking for authenticity, I posted the screenshots in a tweet of my own.

And that’s when, as the kids would say, it blew up.
I want to highlight a couple of quotes from this email.

Since the patient did not fit the existing CDC criteria for COVID-19, a test was not immediately administered. UC Davis Health does not control the testing process.

The facts here are pretty clear. Patient comes in from another hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 19 – this is one week ago – already intubated and on a ventilator, and the doctors at UC Davis – who have treated other COVID-19 cases – IMMEDIATELY suspect COVID-19.

But the CDC refuses to test for COVID-19.

Why? Because it didn’t fit their “criteria” for testing. They didn’t know for sure that the patient was in mainland China within the past 14 days, and they didn’t know for sure that the patient was in close contact with another confirmed case, so BY DEFINITION this patient can’t possibly have COVID-19. No test for you!

This is “Don’t Test, Don’t Tell” and it is the single most incompetent, corrupt public health policy of my lifetime.

And it’s happening all over the country.

Here, take a look at yesterday’s press conference from Nassau County, Long Island.
Excruciating. They spend the first five minutes of the presser congratulating each other. Then the update: 83 people are in self-quarantine at home, where they are supposed to “check their temperature” daily. Don’t have a thermometer? Not to worry! The Nassau County Health Commission will provide one for you!

Who are the 83 in self-quarantine? Why, they’re everyone that Homeland Security says should be in self-quarantine, based on “current guidelines” of someone who was in mainland China within the past 14 days.

Has it been 15 days since your mainland China visit?

Have you been to Northern Italy in past 14 days?

Have you been to Iran in past 14 days?

Have you been to South Korea in past 14 days?

Well, no self-quarantine for you! You’re fine!

And here’s the kicker. Not only is there ZERO tracking or monitoring of anyone who has been swimming in the coronavirus stew of South Korea, Northern Italy and Iran, but let’s say that you have in fact been to one of those areas recently and now you’re feeling sick. You go to the doctor and you tell her the whole story. Both of you suspect it might be COVID-19. You’re trying to do the right thing here. You call the county health authority. You call the state health authority. You call the CDC. And then you learn the awful truth of Don’t Test, Don’t Tell.
It’s not that testing is not available...It’s that testing is not ALLOWED.

I’m not panicked. I am perfectly calm.

But I am really, really pissed off.

Because here’s the other quote from the UC Davis email that I’d like you to pay close attention to:

When the patient arrived [Wednesday], the patient had already been intubated, was on a ventilator, and given droplet protection orders because of an undiagnosed and suspected viral condition. … On Sunday, the CDC ordered COVID-19 testing of the patient and the patient was put on airborne precautions and strict contact precautions.

Translation: for four days, every healthcare professional treating this patient at UC Davis was exposed to airborne transmission of COVID-19. And so was every healthcare professional at the hospital before UC Davis. Because the CDC refused to test this patient for COVID-19 in a timely manner, the doctors and nurses and technicians caring for this patient were put at risk.

Sure enough:

We are asking a small number of employees to stay home and monitor their temperature.

This is the part of the story that we must yell at the top of our lungs.

Don’t Test, Don’t Tell is not just hiding the true extent of COVID-19 cases in the United States.
Don’t Test, Don’t Tell is not just perpetuating the politically corrupt “Yay, Containment!” narrative of this White House.
Don’t Test, Don’t Tell is endangering the lives of our doctors and nurses.

Just like in China.

Just like in Wuhan.

A city falls when its healthcare system is overwhelmed. A city falls when its national government fails to prepare and support its doctors and nurses. A city falls when its government is more concerned with maintaining some bullshit narrative of “Yay, Calm and Competent Control!” than in doing what is politically embarrassing but socially necessary.
That’s EXACTLY what happened in Wuhan. More than 30% of doctors and nurses in Wuhan themselves fell victim to COVID-19, so that the healthcare system stopped being a source of healing, but became a source of infection. At which point the Chinese government effectively abandoned the city, shut it off from the rest of the country, placed more than 9 million people under house arrest, and allowed the disease to essentially burn itself out.
And so Wuhan fell.
The disaster that befell the citizens of Wuhan and so many other cities throughout China is not primarily a virus. The disaster is having a political regime that cares more about maintaining a self-serving narrative of control than it cares about saving the lives of its citizens.
We must prevent that from happening here. From happening anywhere. Yes, containment has failed. But that does NOT mean the war is lost. We can absolutely do better – SO MUCH BETTER – for our citizens than China did for theirs.

The CDC’s Don’t Test, Don’t Tell policy came crashing down last night. So did Trump’s “buh, buh the flu” and “Yay, Containment!” narratives.

Now let’s get to work preparing for the fight to come.

Not in panic. Not in fear. But with resolve, sacrifice and righteous anger for those who would use us instrumentally for their own political ends.

Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can’t lose.

Does anyone have any knowledge of what the airlines are doing to keep planes disinfected between flights out of known "hot spots"? Here in the Twin Cities, Delta has non stops from Japan and S. Korea arriving. The passengers and crew are "screened", but what about the planes? I remember the old days of flights to Mexico and Central America where the insecticide foggers were used with passengers in their seats. Not very fun and the smell was pretty bad. We are supposed to travel in April to Europe, but got a letter from the tour agency saying that cancellations may be possible. No kidding, Sherlock! Time will tell.

Yes. That was always what was going to have to happen to get out from under a 20 Trillion dollar national debt.

Also, did you catch the last Q&A? When do you expect troops to start coming home?

"Today"

Sounds like this "deal" may be focused on getting troops home. For one reason or another.
and then what ever happens "over there" stays "over there".

SEATTLE, WA — A Washington man has died from COVID-19 — the new strain of coronavirus linked to China — marking the first known death connected to the illness in the United States as the total number of cases in the country rose to 22, with cases confirmed in individuals who had not traveled to areas affected by the virus.

The patient who died after contracting the virus was a King County man in his 50s with a chronic illness, which prompted the initial coronavirus testing, Seattle and King County health officials said at a Saturday news conference. Earlier on Saturday, federal health officials said they erroneously identified the patient as a woman in a briefing with President Trump and Vice President Pence, leading to Trump announcing that the patient was a woman at a White House news conference.

Local health officials also said on Saturday that there are two additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state connected to Life Care Center, a long-term care facility in King County. One case is a woman in her 40s who is employed at the facility, health officials said. She is being treated at Overlake Hospital and is listed in satisfactory condition. The second case is a woman in her 70s who is a LifeCare resident. She is being treated at EvergreenHealth Hospital in Kirkland and is in serious condition. In the past 24 hours, health officials have confirmed five total cases in the state, including the man who died.

Saturday's reported death is not associated with the facility, officials said.
According to health officials, more than 50 individuals associated with Life Care are reportedly sick with respiratory illnesses or currently hospitalized for pnuemonia. Officials expect more confirmed COVID-19 cases as early as Saturday, health officials said.

EvergreenHealth released a statement on the death Saturday morning:
We are working closely with health authorities following the death of a patient who tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. That patient came to our facility with serious respiratory issues, and following guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), EvergreenHealth tested the patient for COVID-19. That test was positive. There is a second patient that also tested positive. That patient is in isolation and is receiving appropriate treatment.
Ahead of the press conference, Inslee declared a state of emergency in response to new cases of COVID-19, directing state agencies and departments to use all resources necessary to prepare for and respond to the outbreak. It also allows the use of the Washington National Guard, if necessary.

"This is a time to take common-sense, proactive measures to ensure the health and safety of those who live in Washington state," Inslee said in the statement. "Our state agency directors have been actively preparing since the nation's first case appeared in Snohomish County. Washingtonians can be assured we've taken this threat seriously and have been working in collaboration with our health care partners to develop plans and procedures to prepare for what could likely be a worldwide pandemic."

King County Executive Dow Constantine said he had initiated a review of all government practices and activated the Emergency Operations Center to coordinate preventative measures across county agencies.

"We are fortunate to have one of the best public health agencies in the nation, and we are pulling all available resources into the fight against COVID-19," Constantine said.

Representatives from King County Public Health, EvergreenHealth Hospital and the Washington State Department of Health briefed the public Saturday afternoon at Public Health headquarters in Seattle.

During the briefing, Dr. Jeff Duchin with Seattle and King County Public Health said he expects a team of 10 officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offices in Atlanta to arrive in Washington Sunday to provide assistance with coronavirus testing.

On Friday night, the state Department of Health had announced two infections in Washington state — one in King County and one in Snohomish County. The Snohomish County case was diagnosed in a teen boy who had no recent travel history or close contacts.

The Mill Creek high school student was the fourth person on the west coast to be infected by an unknown source, following two cases in Northern California and one in Oregon. Officials said his illness did not appear connected to the others announced Saturday.

In Washington, there have been a total of six coronavirus cases, including the one case involving the patient death. The first U.S. case was also diagnosed in Washington. A Snohomish County man who returned from Wuhan, China in January tested positive for the virus. He has since been declared "fully recovered." Until Friday, no other cases had been confirmed in Washington.
As of Friday, there were 15 cases of COVID-19 confirmed within the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. By Saturday, federal officials said that number had risen to 22, which included cases of "community spread," meaning the patients had not traveled to affected areas. Officials stated that more cases are expected.

The CDC said an additional 47 infections were among people who returned to the U.S. via State Department-chartered flights. The latter number includes 44 people who contracted the virus on the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
The virus — which originated in Wuhan, China — has infected at least 83,600 people internationally, and 2,800 people have died, according to the World Health Organization. It is spreading so quickly overseas that infectious disease experts and scientists warn there may be no way to contain it.

Thousands of others across the country are being monitored for the new coronavirus, including 8,400 people in the state of California, and more than 230 people in Massachusetts who may have been exposed to the virus are being monitored and self-quarantined in their homes.
It is a sad day as we learn a Washingtonian has died from COVID-19. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. We are strengthening our preparedness and response efforts to keep Washingtonians healthy, safe and informed. Prophetic Word in D.C.
“Keep your eyes on the one who smiles and thinks she is untouchable. For she is scheming once again. This time, she has brought reinforcements. For she thinks she has won a battle, for this is not so! She is seeking a position, no matter the cost, no matter the price. For injustice she seeks, but what she will find, is justice that knocks on her door. For I will expose the wickedness once again, and bring light to what the plan was created for, and what was intended to carry out. For she is bitter, her heart has been hardened once again, and she prowls secretly to bring down this man called Trump. For it not so! He will continue his tenure, because I need him there. To carry out My plans for this nation. Watch, behold, it comes like a flood and sweeps across a nation and travels into the Middle East. Israel, the U.S. unstoppable, epic proportions. Intense friendship, historic accomplishments, and a peace that surpasses all understanding. For the plans shall crumble before it comes to fruition, and I will reveal the source that carries weight in D.C. that sits silently and watches. Believing that not one notices, but I notice, and I will reveal. They are trembling, they are stirring, simply because the inevitable is coming that will change the course of history once again. So now, the enemy stirs up a plan and calls it Coronavirus. To deceive, to mock, to discredit once again. Who is in control? For it shall not take root in this nation called the United States. For fear is trying to establish itself among the people, but I will not let it be so. For in the days ahead, you will see the signs in the skies above to reveal the mystery that My mighty right hand is raised high! For there will be no chaos, no destruction, for My protection is upon this land. For the people have prayed, for they have closed the door to the enemy, they have chosen to not live in fear, but to put their trust in Me. In this, you can trust. The enemy only has access where authority is given. My church has sacrificed, worshiped, cried out, and I have heard their cry. I am the God that carries all things in the palm of My hands, who is to test that? who is to question it? This nation has persevered, sought after Me, and prays day and night, night and day! For I will have the last say regarding this virus that has no power, no authority. Everything that has a name, bows to Me, submits to Me. So watch, behold, the heavens will reveal the signs that prayer has been heard, and prayer has been answered. I say again, the plans once again, to dishonor authority are crushed and dismantled, to never be heard of again.”

Often people will use tylenol duirng a suicide attempt. Also, they may take a lot of tylenol for fever/pain as well as prescription pain medication or cold/flu meds that also have acetaminophin in it.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) toxicity won't kill you quickly. It destroys your liver and you die slowly over time.

We give mucomyst (the actual drug is N-acetylcysteine) as the antidote to prevent the liver damage.
N-acetylcysteine is also the supplement form of the amino acid cysteine. Its called NAC in its supplement form. You can buy it on Amazon, I use the Nutricost brand. I have used it for several years to thin phlegm to help with COPD. It is effective for that and noticeably improved my breathing. I take 600 mg morning and afternoon.

Thanks, Marsh. That gave a LOT more clarity to the situation. No, the man who died was not from the nursing home. The two sick women are: One a worker, and one a patient. And does anyone wonder like I am, who the Fed Health person was that gave Trump the faulty information? Were her initials N.M.? Did she channel that info through others to Trump?

This is a protocol I believe was sent up in England that protects health care workers and others from infection. If you are sick with the symptoms, you call your physician for an appt.. Wearing PPE, he has you come in the back door, makes a preliminary determination if it is a cold, flu or potentially COVID 19.

If the latter, an appt. is made for you at the hospital. You drive up in your car to a designated area where someone in PPE takes your temp. and swabs your throat. They then determine if you are positive and go from there.

I know that most people are not looking at China's numbers any longer. I just saw that today's numbers are a bit higher than they have been the last three days.
I wonder if the virus is starting to spread as some
Of the restrictions have been relaxed.

It occurred to me that while the cruise ship was an older population. There were no medically fragile or poor people there. Most likely healthy , financially secure, older adults.

The nursing home is all medically fragile. It will be a massacre and a real test of our health care system. They will probably all need respirators and intensive treatment

I think you are better off outdoors when weather permits.
It seems to rain here 3 or 4 days a week and it is still winter.
But if it warms up to 45 and is sunny, I am out doing yard work (although not so much if overcast)
If the temps get to mid 50s, I am definitely out doing yard work.
If it is the 60s, there is some painting to do and other repairs that require climbing a ladder.

Fresh air, Sunshine, and some light work is good for your health . . . and your wallet.

It depends on what "medically fragile" is. Are those who have/had cancer considered medically fragile? Or those with one kidney or diabetes or one lung or ? They travel, too.

Yes, I thought of this. It’s heartbreaking. I’m so glad my mom “went home” in November, to avoid any possibility of being trapped in one of those “death camps”. I’m missing her real bad though.

Now was looking at the above map and the list of countries of where this virus has been confirmed to have occurred. I find it interesting of how almost all of the cases is in the Northern Hemisphere and only a few cases in the Southern Hemisphere where the majority of these has occurred in Australia. Most of the Southern Hemisphere, where it is now indeed Summer, have hardly no cases of this virus whatsoever! Why is that??? Why is that??? Why is that??? Most of the cases, and where it is spreading are in the Northern Hemisphere where it is now winter. Just today have been wondering about this. Take a look at this yourself and that above map. I say it is Interesting! Today's Australia's numbers are 25 cases with 15 recovered. And actually the rates of those that have recovered are pretty good for those more tropical countries where this has now occurred. Is this wishful thinking of what will happen in the Northern Hemisphere once the warmer time of year arrives? Guess we will see but it needs to be watched closely in my opinion. I just find it interesting with all of this talk that it will disappear come summer. Now that where it is right now - right now indeed Summer, there are hardly no cases and not one single country where this virus is spreading like wildfire, unlike in the Northern Hemisphere.

Wishing Everyone the Best!!!!

Infection, notes below.
Modes of transmission
  • Vectors Organism which transmits infection from one host to another
  • Fomites Article which transmits infection between hosts
  • Cross-infection Infection is transferred from one person to another
  • Exogenous infection Organisms arrive from without (or outside) the person Endogenous infection From within or on the individual
  • Vertical and horizontal transmission Vertical transmission, from mother to child Toxoplasmosis Rubella Herpes simplex virus – 2 Zika HIV Syphilis Hepatitis B
  • Horizontal transmission One member of a species from another member of the same species
  • Infection may be directly from one person or indirectly via the environment
  • Spillover infection (pathogen spillover, spillover event) Pathogen moves from a reservoir population into a novel host population Spillover zoonoses Most viral infections are zoonotic
