Approaching 8 inches now. There is a streak of blue (snow) from the ocean to the Cascades using us as a bullseye going all the way to 7pm tonight, with a couple breaks. Hmmmm. Got the tub filled, washed dishes, doing a load of laundry, and will have candles out for tonight. Looks like our ace meteorologist and 2021 may strike again! LOL

Ain't life miserable in the INW? I endured it for 17 years. Yes, about 10 years ago while living in Spokane Valley we had a cold snap after 6 feet of snow on the roof. Our lows were -18 and highs in the single digits. Forget about the wind chill. It would be tough to withstand 10 days of darkness up there. Let alone permanently.

I hope everyone up there stays cozy warm in their best efforts. Except for my ex wife there in Spokane. She would freeze Hell over.

In Roseburg, OR, we have about 4" on the ground with the forecast saying snow for the next two days. Not really a Snowmageddon event. We're staying put for those days, all equipped, etc. It won't be pleasant if the power goes out, but that's what a wood stove is for. We got that installed in our garage late this summer, and it will keep the entire garage (1000 sq ft) cozy, and we can cook on it if necessary. We also has a gas fireplace and many backup light sources.

Saved, to glorify God.
Ok, now im gonna put my Columbia OMNI-HEAT (reflective) long -johns on, Im chilled.

I got either Thinsulate lined pants or OMNI-HEAT PANTS if we lose power. I got a down +and OMNI-HEAT jacket too. You could sleep in Snow with OMNI-HEAT stuff ( it is NOT battery powered, just reflective) I just got one baseboard heater going.

Sweat pants and sweat shirt are just not cutting the chill, I noticed I was shivering.

Ok, i figured out the problem. Its only 50 degrees in the house, at head level, and probably lower near the floor. Turned the baseboard heater to high. I like it 60-65 degrees.

That’s what I have for all my jackets both short and long.
I Love Columbia Omni-Heat lined jackets! V

Now running for Emperor.
11 degrees at 08:00 here in the Skykomish River Valley... Just a little chilly. =-)

Haven't measured the snow depth, but my Newfie can stick most of his head and snout into the powder... That critter does love the snow; turns him back into a puppy for a while.

We have ten to eleven inches now, and maybe one to three more tonight. It may hit 33 today with some sun. "May," being the operative word. So far, we have power but neighbors up the road a couple miles don't. Can you believe that while it was 33 degrees yesterday, we heard a frog in the creek calling! Both on the morning and evening walks, with snow on the ground. Poor thing needs to go back to sleep! He's not gonna be able to find a female who wants to go out in the snow! LOL

ok. I had to log on and share to the storm thread. I am in Lake Tahoe (Donner Summit) and we got a good storm up here, finally! All highways closed and 30K people out of power due to trees down etc. Our power was off yesterday but thank the Lord and the Linemen, we got it up again last night! I live in a weird micro climate and we always get a bit more snow than right in town (Truckee). So deep we have to dig paths for the dog to go potty! And more FEET coming today per NOAA. I will say this has been a big storm and we have not had such in many years! Praise the Lord for water! IMG_2750.jpgIMG_2750.jpgIMG_2753.jpgIMG_2756.jpgIMG_2753.jpgIMG_2758.jpgIMG_2750.jpg

We are stuck on the coast.
Both 299 and 96 closed due to trees down, slides and power lines.
Last time we had such a huge snow event it took dear husband and his buddy two days to get down our road clearing trees.
His buddy has passed away so it is just husband and I to clear the road.
With the extreme for us low temperatures forecasted for the upcoming week we expect frozen and burst pipes.
We are going to wait until road conditions are safer before heading home to the cabin.
Lots of folks lost power and had trees fall on their homes.

A lot further East of you, in central Alberta, Canada.....we are sitting at -36F with gas pumps freezing up at the McDonalds outlet and only one working very sluggishly. Went up by 5F mid-afternoon, same tomorrow with snow.

Oh goody...... hope this is our winter and we get La Nina for the next 3 months.

Hoopa California (Hupa Reservation) Humboldt County out of gas and grid power.
Declared weather emergency and opened up a shelter.
Red Cross trying to open a shelter in Willow Creek.
Willow Creek Humboldt county out of gas and limited power.
299 from coast inland to Willow Creek closed to non emergency traffic.
Ambulances meet half way and shuttle patients over and around downed trees to get them to the coast for medical care.
The county OES is working with the road department to open up a lane on 299 to get gas trucks to Willow Creek and Hoopa.

Snowing again here on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Got about 3 inches yesterday,
but it doesn't take much to shut down things here. No idea what we will get tonight, but it's
coming down pretty steady.

From Sunday 1-02-22 and for the next 9 days ALL daily high temps are between 38-39-and 40 Farenhein The last LOW TEMPERATURE BELOW Freezing is January FIRST 2022.

We got our "climate change event," it lasted about 3 days or so, and then it went away. The extreme heat event did the same thing, about three days at the end of June and then over. Of course, we got a blast in August, but NOTHING like what we go in June.

By the way, I see homeless camping everywhere downtown, no indication they have gone to warming centers, the same tents are in the same places, with the same people. It is entirely possible they will find some corpses when the weather moderates this weekend and later.

We had 70 senior citizens and homeless people die in the June heatwave of 2021, so we shall just have to wait and see what happens this time around,

Brown's "climate yada yada" not withstanding, there really is a PATTERN to how these storms play out. You get phase ONE which is the freezing pipes, wind damaged power lines, assorted wind damage to streets yada yada yada.

then you get the freeze issues, black ice, melting snow that re freezes, again that is a thaw, freeze, thaw freeze pattern that has slick sidewalks, slick roads, etc

We got this thing done by this weekend except for the residual after effects. It takes time to cut up trees and clear roads. It takes time to deal with the frozen pipes, and the roads to thaw.

buildings take several days to freeze, unheated parking garages etc, and they take several days to thaw.

We will be dealing with all the physical damage until mid January at least.

Like I said, you lose power, you have frozen pipes, you have transport issues, etc etc.

The only unusual part about this particular storm us the temperatures really are on the extreme low side .Portland really doesn't get wind chills down to the 16 F range that often.

Anyway, I am just warm as a bug in a rug in my heated apartment, etc since all my utilities are underground, and only subject to flood damage, which also happens every few years or so.

Portland has about a five to ten year cycle for "climate change events,: like this! its a F$%%% storm you climate change clods! :jstr:
