Brown's "climate yada yada" not withstanding, there really is a PATTERN to how these storms play out. You get phase ONE which is the freezing pipes, wind damaged power lines, assorted wind damage to streets yada yada yada.
then you get the freeze issues, black ice, melting snow that re freezes, again that is a thaw, freeze, thaw freeze pattern that has slick sidewalks, slick roads, etc
We got this thing done by this weekend except for the residual after effects. It takes time to cut up trees and clear roads. It takes time to deal with the frozen pipes, and the roads to thaw.
buildings take several days to freeze, unheated parking garages etc, and they take several days to thaw.
We will be dealing with all the physical damage until mid January at least.
Like I said, you lose power, you have frozen pipes, you have transport issues, etc etc.
The only unusual part about this particular storm us the temperatures really are on the extreme low side .Portland really doesn't get wind chills down to the 16 F range that often.
Anyway, I am just warm as a bug in a rug in my heated apartment, etc since all my utilities are underground, and only subject to flood damage, which also happens every few years or so.
Portland has about a five to ten year cycle for "climate change events,: like this! its a F$%%% storm you climate change clods!
