Portland is looking at NARROWLY AVOIDING A WHITE CHRISTMAS. However, after that we are looking at "extreme cold weather," as follows.

www.weather.com

The low Sunday night will be 28F, so we are good until then

Sunday 26th: 37/28F

Monday 27th: 33/25 F

Tuesday 28th: 30/20F

Wed 29th: 26/17F

Thursday 30th: 27/14 F

Friday 31st: 32/25F

Saturday 1st: 34/27 F

Sunday 2nd: 34/27 F

Monday 3rd: 35/28 F

Tuesday 4th: 35/27 F

WE WILL LIKELY HAVE SNOW INTHERE SOMEWHERE, AND WE ALL KNOW HOW BADLY OREGONIANS DRIVE IN THE SNOW?

Portland is THE WORST place to be in a vehicle in the snow. You guys take care up there.

We're going to get similar temps. Wrapped the pump house today. This is my fault. I was mentioning to DH that December was unusually warm, with no freezing temps yet and none forecast a couple days ago. Sorry. :D

A two week stretch where the temps stay BELOW freezing 24/7 is going to be hard core for Portland, especially if we get gorge winds that drop the windchill to 0 to 10, or even lower, say down to 15 below.

The other thing is it will set off the climate change crowd. 114 F in June, a mere 6 months ago and now 20 F for two weeks?
They shut down the last coal plant, along with the last natural gas one, and no nuke power for decades, unless Hanford is still online. Might have a Texas freezeout? Who knows?

Here in the Seattle 'burbs, they're forecasting a low of 28 degrees on Xmas Night and, the day after on Sunday, a high of 31 degrees paired with a low of 21 degrees. We're talking Fahrenheit here, baby! That's below freezing all day Sunday and the night before.

I guess it's finally time to drain my garden hose and put it away for 2021.

With precip in the forecast, we may just get a White Xmas Nite and Day After Xmas. It's pretty, but I'm not looking forward to taking out the trash in it -- and Sunday services may be out of the question travel-wise.

Actually I have a wood stove I just hate to fire it up unless the temperature is in the teens... The first year after I moved here, I went through 7 cords of wood... Now I use electric heaters in my bedroom and attached bath.. But it drives up my electric bill

Going to have a green Christmas here in upstate NY. Christmas eve and Christmas day in the 40's !! I think we are going to go the entire month of December not shoveling for the first time ever.

It is still looking like we missed a White Christmas here in Portland, However, the temps are going to drop significantly immediately thereafter. And J, F, & P get ready to fire up your cordwood!

SATURDAY 12-25-2021 *39/30 F

SUNDAY 12-26-2021 *35/24 F

MONDAY 12-27/2021 *31/24 F

TUESDAY 12-28-2021 *32/19 F

WEDS 12-29-2021 * 27/17 F

THURSDAY 12-30-2021 *26/19 F

FRIDAY 12-31-2021 *30/22 F

SATURDAY 1-1-2022 *33/26 F

SUNDAY 1-2-2022 *32/25 F

MONDAY 1-3-2022 *33/25F

TUESDAY 1-4-2022 *33/26 F

WEDS 1-5-2022 *35/22 F

THE COLD WEATHER STARTS ON BOXER DAY, DECEMBER 26TH WITH A LOW OF 24 AND THE LOWS STAY IN THE 20'S FOR TWO SOLID WEEKS. FURTHER, PORTLAND WILL GET A THREE DAY STRETCH 12-28/29/30 WITH LOWS 17, 19, AND 22 F

At any rate, the next two weeks will be brutal by Portland standards, and it is very likely people will die from hypothermia. Hopefully, not the 70 plus that died from the 114F heat wave back in June. Portland is totally dysfunctional at this point, with a collapsed social order.

It will be interesting, at least to me, to see how much the electric load is reduced from all the downtown business closures, like virtually empty skyscrappers for example. I guess not much electric use for the block after block of boarded up and empty buildings. This may have the ironic impact of making the grid stronger as the load is reduced city wide.

The Oregon state legislature had their session on the13th, but I paid no attention to them so I have no idea if they allocated $66 MILLION in rental assistance, or any other emergency actions, related to rental forebearance, student loans, or whatever. The system is chaos, and if 10% of the people downtown 5 years ago were here today as I walked around I would be surprised. Pioneer Place stores had physical barriers INSIDE THE MALL to prevent the kind of flash mobs elsewhere.

The stench of social decay and anarchy is everywhere. A two week of below freezing temperatures may be the trigger event that puts the final nail in the coffin. They may even have to kick out the homeless from their government funded prefab camps since I doubt they built them able to take two weeks of this kind of cold.

I will keep up the reporting. :D

ARCTIC BLAST NEXT WEEK - After Christmas, high temperatures in Spokane will be in the single digits and lows below zero! We could see the coldest winter daytime since 2009!

Supposed to be 0-5 for us but we are not complaining wish it would get down to -35 -40 for a month. Might have a migration headed south in spring. We already have had 22 inches of snow in the last 3 weeks. More in the mountains.

Day by day
I caught part of the long range weather forecast for Texas around 2-4 January, looks to be very, very cold. It could be part of that system.

Me, too, I hate the cold! This was on KBTX's Shel Winkley's weather report last evening, 6pm forecast. He talks about it toward the end of the forecast:

Run time is 0:51
I sure hope he's wrong about that!

Hi Doug. Thanks for the fun weather info from AOP. I would appreciate an update on the security or lack thereof on the street in Portland. Has Antifa moved south or switching to Very warm clothes.. Do you still have the sand bags protecting your lobby ;). Peace and good luck, Paul

Antifa and blm are still around. Cold is nothing to them. In February they had a riot with snow on the ground and bitter cold like we will have after Sunday. They are running out of targets having pretty much destroyed downtown. Not much ummph with biden in charge and all the leadership acting like puppies rolling over everytime antifa goes boo.:shd:
Crime is totally out of control in 2021. We are looking at nearly 80 DEAD with a week to go. More dead bodies New Year's Eve. Downtown used to have thousands downtown but all that is gone now. All the action is in the burbs now.
I did see a line to get into the concert hall the other day, but that was mostly they were being vetted for masks and
:poop:

7 cords. That's serious. Most I have burned in the Chgo area is 4.5. And that was burning all day/night. Lately, we are no more than 2.5 - 3.0/ year. Anything over 30 gets regular heat.

I have lived in extreme Northeast Washington for 15 years. I left the Portland area where I had lived since before it became a liberal cesspool. Winters in my N.E. Washington town routinely reach -0 to -25 for a low. That being said there is nothing worse that a rainy-ass Portland winter. Add a bunch of Liberal asshats and it is a soggy hell. There is nothing worse than the smell of wet dreadlocks and Patchouli.

It looks like they chsnged the low temps next week from the 12 to 16 F range to "only" 22 F. Still got that 3 day stretch of 22 at night and 32 during the day. Still looking at 1 to 6 inches of snow downtown?

The actual winter warning is from Saturday afternoon to early monday morning.
I went to Columbia and bought rain pants, heavy wool socks and a $90 boots. Converting increasinly worthless fiat notes into tangible items.
The boots were made in Vietnam, so now I know why we fought there. My Vietnam era army status March of 1964/1965 to March of 1975 really means the honored dead died for corporate greed, kinda like biden in Aghanistan.

AccuWeather long range forecast for Southeast Texas, is for highs in the upper 70's/low 80's into January and mid 70's in the middle of February. Not a single low below freezing the rest of winter. I'm going to start some spring plants for the garden! Well they have been wrong before.

We've been getting a LOT of rain here in Santa Cruz County. Had to do some maintenance in the drainage system by the barn, gutters are leaking, cat keeps wanting to go out in the rain and coming back mad because he got wet,, more rain predicted for several more days. The house is fine though. Replaced the roof about 7 years ago so not worried about the house. Major snowfall is predicted for the Sierras.
