I went and searched out the rules for what constitutes a quorum. This search led me here.

Read Sec. 5.
Those who are physically present constitute a quorum to conduct business. Those who vote "present" are deemed not to be a part of the quorum voting on a proposal. Some have proposed and thought that McCarthy just needed Democrats to not show and bring the quorum number down. It appears that all he needed was to get Republican members to vote present. That has the same effect without an appearance of compromising with the other half of the party. The populous would be none the wiser.

One thing this circus did was to make it impossible for the White House to pull off their pre-planned "events" to "mark" January 6th. They probably did a couple of things, but almost no one was watching. I know they were hoping to do a huge amount of "insurrection theater" type stuff, and in the end, even if they try to do it on Saturday or something; I think the momentum is lost. We shall see...

It was inevitable. Deals are made, throats are cut, backs will be stabbed and that's politics - from the precinct caucus level on up. That's why I'm not in it anymore, and why most of us aren't in it. BUT...somebody has to do it.
If anybody thinks that the Speaker job is nothing but a checked box on the resume, invitations to all the best parties and a big hammer, it ain't. It's herding cats, cracking kneecaps, and most of all FUND RAISING. Traveling and living out of a suitcase for two years (or more). Getting all these a-holes who railed against ya re-elected to Congress. . Again, nothing most people would ever want to do. All I can say is good luck to him and hope he can heal some big damned bleeders.

After the last four years, IMHO many of those who were holding McCarthy feet to the fire this last week may well consider that political price worth it to not repeati the Ryan or Boehner tenures of SOTH, or at least attempting to lessen the chance of it.
That being said, two years are politically both a blink of the eye and an eternity so we will see.
That being said, the Turtle and RINOs show in the Senate has to be blunted and McCarthy moving into the Speaker's offices even before the first vote says volumes about the man without looking back at the sound bites and deeds of the last couple of years.

With the rule change, (if he abides by it), that goes into effect where the Speaker can be voted out, I'm wondering if we should start a strip card on how many days McCarthy will last as Speaker. 
Hannity's actions at the end of the day shouldn't be completely surprising. He has to have access to the "inner circle" to make it easy to produce his shows.
As for Crenshaw, I was listening to a local radio call in show out of Fresno yesterday and one caller suggested that Crenshaw still hasn't transitioned his thinking from being a SEAL to being a congressman. That theory fits but we're going to have to wait and see in the coming months and years.

I was pissed that it was the house clerk who handed Mccarthy the speakers gavel. That drunk bitch pelosi should have been made to walk up there and hand it over to him
