Supplemental Security Income Recipients with Dependent Children Under Age 17

Should go to IRS.gov to provide their information.

By taking proactive steps to enter information on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website about you and your qualifying children, you will receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to the $1,200 individual payment.
If qualifying SSI recipients do not provide their information to the IRS soon, the $500 payment per qualifying child will be delayed.

I receive social security but not enough to file a tax return. I am curious because I do not think I will be getting a "stimulus" check. Not sure why. I was under the impression that we old, poor people wouldn't have to do anything but wait on the government to "share" the loot from the real tax payers.

Where is my stimulus check? That's the question millions of Americans are probably asking. Here's what we know about when checks should be in the mail.

VERIFY: Can stimulus check money be garnished? Answering the most-asked questions

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department have stated that tens of millions of Americans have already started to receive their stimulus checks through direct deposit, but many more are still waiting.
The payments are part of the $2.2 trillion rescue package signed into law by President Donald Trump aimed at combating the economic ravages of the coronavirus pandemic.

For the most part, the government is sending eligible Americans a $1,200 economic impact payment, plus an additional $500 per child.

If you haven't gotten your stimulus check yet, then you're probably wondering when it's going to show up. The IRS tweeted this week that those who filed taxes in 2019 or 2018 and supplied direct deposit info should see their money "in the next three weeks."

Since the passing of the CARES Act, officials have repeatedly stressed the quickest way to get your stimulus check is going to be through direct deposit. For those who didn't provide banking info to the IRS in their tax returns, you can use the "Get My Payment" tool on the IRS website to update that info. There have been some hiccups with that tool however, with many saying they've gotten a "Payment Status Not Available" message when trying to use the stimulus payment status tracker. The IRS even addressed this issue on its website and told people to keep trying.

A recent timeline from Congress estimated that around 101 million payments would need to be made by paper check unless people sent in their direct deposit info.

But what if you have to wait for a mailed check? Or still haven't received your money through direct deposit? Here's what we know.

RELATED: VERIFY: Will I have to pay to get the money? Answering more of the top stimulus check questions.
When will stimulus checks be mailed?

If you don't have direct deposit set up with the IRS, then you'll receive your check through the mail.

On Tuesday, April 21, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said they have started sending out checks.

According to a memo from the House Ways and Means Committee, the IRS will begin issuing paper checks the week of April 20. Americans with the lowest income will get mailed checks first. Around 5 million paper checks will be issued each week, so the memo notes it could take up to 20 weeks for everyone to get their paper checks.

The IRS has yet to confirm the exact timeline for mailing the paper checks, but this is the planned weekly schedule, according to internal documents viewed by The Washington Post in early April.

According to the internal plan, checks will be issued by gradually increasing income increments of $10,000 each week. Households earning $198,000, who file jointly, will get their reduced checks on Sept. 4, The Post reported.

These dates represent the "week ending," there is a chance the IRS could also change the schedule at any point.

- Income up to $10,000: April 24
- Income between $10,001-$20,000: May 1
- Income between $20,001-$30,000: May 8
- Income between $30,001-$40,000: May 15
- Income between $40,001-$50,000: May 22
- Income between $50,001-$60,000: May 29
- Income between $60,001-$70,000: June 5
- Income between $70,001-$80,000: June 12
- Income between $80,001-$90,000: June 19
- Income between $90,001-$100,000: June 26
- Income between $100,001-$110,000: July 3
- Income between $110,001-$120,000: July 10
- Income between $120,001-$130,000: July 17
- Income between $130,001-$140,000: July 24
- Income between $140,001-$150,000: July 31
- Income between $150,001-$160,000: August 7
- Income between $160,001-$170,000: August 14
- Income between $170,001-$180,000: August 21
- Income between $180,001-$190,000: August 28
- Income between $190,001-$198,000: September 4
- All remaining checks: September 11

Most Americans do not need to do anything to get their economic impact check.

The IRS is using information from filed 2019 tax returns. If you didn't file your taxes yet, the IRS said it will use information from their 2018 tax filing to calculate the payment.

If the IRS doesn't have someone's banking information, the Treasury developed a web-based portal for individuals to provide their information to the IRS online so that individuals can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail.

However, the IRS said it's possible it might not have the right bank information or someone's financial institution rejected the direct deposit. In that case, a physical check will still be mailed.

When will the next stimulus checks be deposited? And when will my direct deposit payment arrive?

The easiest way to know whether your payment has arrived is to check your bank account. The IRS "Get My Payment" tool can also help track when it's supposed to be deposited.

The IRS tweeted on Wednesday that eligible people who filed taxes for 2019 or 2018 will automatically get an economic impact payment from the IRS in the next three weeks.

When will I get my stimulus check if I receive government benefits?

If you receive any of these government benefits, your money is coming soon and your payment should arrive automatically:
  • Social Security Retirement
  • Survivor or Disability Benefits (SSDI)
  • Railroad Retirement Benefits
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Veterans Affairs Benefits
Even if you didn't file a tax return in the last two years, the IRS says no action is needed. You will automatically receive your $1,200 payment.

Money for Social Security and Railroad Retirement Recipients will come first. And SSI recipients will receive their automatic payments in early May.

But the IRS says the VA payment schedule for compensation and pension is still being determined.

RELATED: Veterans Affairs recipients will receive $1,200 stimulus checks automatically

RELATED: Receiving SSI benefits? You'll get your stimulus check automatically, IRS says

All of these recipients will get their money however they would normally receive their benefits: by direct deposit, direct express debit card or by paper check.

Will there be a second stimulus check?

Nothing is official yet, though there is a proposal out there.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) introduced legislation called the Emergency Money For the People Act.

If it were to pass, it would give eligible Americans $2,000 per month for at least six months. And it would continue until national employment levels return to pre-COVID-19 levels.

RELATED: 100+ COVID-19 questions answered: Send yours and we'll work to get answers

The lawmakers said while the CARES Act was an important first step, its one-time payment does not provide nearly enough support for American families.

But again, this is just a proposal and has not been approved yet. For now, all that's being sent is a one-time payment up to $1,200.

RELATED: Second stimulus plan proposes to send Americans $2,000 per month for 6 months

I requested direct deposit, so why am I getting a check mailed to me instead?

The IRS recently updated its frequently asked questions section to explain why some Americans will wind up getting a check, even though they asked for direct deposit.

"It is possible we do not have the correct bank account information for you, or your financial institution rejected the direct deposit. In either case, your Payment will be mailed to the address we have on file for you," the IRS stated online.

It almost sounds as though the stimulus check for SS recipients will some at the same time as those SS payments.

Got my friends check in the mail today - she's on SS and is under the limit (I'm her POA and manage all of her money). Son also got his, but his is reduced since he is on Medicaid.

Been warned that it may take up to 2 weeks for checks to clear, but what the heck? Hers will at least pay for part of the next month's stay at a Nursing Home.

Wait. It’s reduced because of Medicaid? This is the first time I’ve heard this. Do you mind saying how much reduced?

Yes, direct deposit Tuesday, and to tell you the truth, didn’t like seeing it there. Never asked or needed help from government and we know where it leads. I’ll keep the dirty money and spend it wisely, but I don’t like it...

Still nothing today, probably not tomorrow either. I've been signed up on their site for over a week now and they keep saying they don't have a date but have the account info. Funny how fast they could REMOVE the money this year...but not send it.

VA Partners with Treasury Department to Deliver Economic Impact Payments to Veterans and Survivors
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced today it is working directly with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and U.S. Treasury Department to ensure delivery of ‘Economic Impact Payments’ to Veterans and survivors who receive Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefit payments from VA without additional paperwork or IRS filings.
The ‘Economic Impact Payments,’ authorized by the Treasury Department under the 2020 Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, will be issued automatically to recipients of non-taxable VA benefits (LIKE DIC ) who did not file annual income tax returns for 2018 or 2019. VA and the IRS have been collaborating since the passage of the CARES Act to ensure Veterans receive their EIP.
“Many have expressed concern that Veterans and their beneficiaries would be overlooked during the distribution of Economic Impact Payments from the CARES Act simply because they don’t file an annual tax return,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “This collaboration will ensure our Veterans receive CARES Act payments without any additional action or paperwork required.”
Economic Impact Payments will be automatic for non-tax filing VA beneficiaries. For VA beneficiaries who filed a Form 1040 for 2018 or 2019, those payments will also be automatic. No further action is needed. They can track the status of their payments on the Get My Payment tool on IRS.gov. For non-tax filing VA beneficiaries, please note their information will be loaded on this tool within the next few weeks.
For VA beneficiaries who didn’t file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and have a dependent, there is a special step they need to take, and the sooner the better. They should visit the Non-Filer: Enter Payment Info Here tool on IRS.gov. By quickly taking steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they can receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.
VA recognizes that many non-tax filing beneficiaries have already begun using the IRS’ EIP payment portal to provide the necessary data to IRS to receive their EIP. There will be no interruption to payments being processed using the IRS portal, and Veterans with internet access are encouraged to continue providing information and track their EIP through the IRS portal.
For those who do not have access, or choose not to use the IRS portal, their EIP will be processed without further action on their part.
While no date for distribution has been set at this time, VA is securely sharing necessary beneficiary data with Treasury which will allow Treasury to begin issuance of Economic Impact Payments.
For more information on CARES Act ‘Economic Impact Payments,’ visit: Economic impact payments: What you need to know | Internal Revenue Service.

Southcentral Alaska. They have all my info because I was on a tax installment plan after last April 15. Have not yet filed 2019 as it looks like they want all of the 0-care money back, which is 17K I don't have. So I'll be holding off until I can get some ducks in a row.

What happened? :(

I also have Obamacare. You got me a little nervous!

No, not yet. Should be getting the paper version, which takes longer to process.

Just got a town hall phone call from my sin-a-tor this AM to reassure me that the check would be in the mail Real Soon Now.
Just curious.. have you gotten your stimulus check yet?
I know there was another thread. However I thought it might be good to have a sorta graph to follow the check disbursement.
If you have, please post a comment telling what area of the country you are in.
No! Live in Ohio. I had to pay in 2019 taxes but in 2018 I got a refund so they should have my bank info. Still waiting! All my friends and my kids got refunds this year and they received their checks last Wednesday, April 15th.

I filed a paper return through the mail last week, and they had my refund in the account this morning.

well, they finally recognized me at the IRS website and wanted my bank info.
I had to fill out a form.
the form had these nice button boxes
- did you owe
- did you have a refund

I had neither because my IRA "income" was offset by my standard deduction.

I left it blank - it did not like that.
I checked owed - it blew up the form
Then I checked refund - it blew up the form.

Apparently, I am the only person in the US who can figure out exactly how much income I can earn and owe no tax.
They probably figured I would not file if I neither owed or expected a refund - but I figured if I didn't I would get audited.

We have paid taxes every year of our working lives and when I put in our SS number it doesn't recognize us. We got our reg SS deposit though so have no idea if we will get anything to not. Does this have to do with not doing 2019 taxes yet?

We’re on SS and the IRS website had said that our check would go out in the mail today. However, it was a nice surprise to find it in our mailbox today. It allowed us to pay off the debt we incurred in getting a new roof at the end of ‘19. We’re debt free again and hoping it lasts this time.
