HEALTH FLU? WHO?

Praying for all of you with the flu.

I am so scared if I get it with all of my autoimmune stuff.

We had to go to our local clinic yesterday, and used lots of hand sanitizer and was afraid to touch any magazine there not knowing who had it before. We have been washing our hands often.

The doctor said there has been a lot of flu. A nurse who came in to give me and injection said a woman she knows took her child to the hospital after the child came down with the flu. I don't know how it turned out.

My 86 year old Dad basically died from Influenza A last Saturday. It’s a long story, but he was in icu and on a ventilator and overcame that only to have his heart give out a few days after they removed the ventilator. My husband got influenza a from my Dad. My daughter is a nurse and told me to drink lots of hot drinks because the flu virus lives in the throat and hates heat. I drank tons of tea while caring for my Dad. I was in direct contact with his mucus etc before he was diagnosed. I never got the flu! I also never got a flu shot this year. Not sure why I never got the flu. I sure should have!

So very sorry to read. My sincere condolences to you.

Thanks for what you shared on this. I am sitting here with a tall hot herbal tea, with honey. Been drinking it daily- intuition, maybe.

Yesterday I found out that someone age 57 had died of the flu, very unexpectedly (dirty, rotten shame). This year seems worrisome for this department.

FYI:

Can the vaccine give me the flu?

No. The flu vaccine can't give you the flu. But you might develop flu-like symptoms — despite getting a flu shot — for a variety of reasons, including:

Reaction to the vaccine. Some people experience muscle aches and a fever for a day or two after receiving a flu shot. This may be a side effect of your body's production of protective antibodies.
The two-week window. It takes about two weeks for the flu shot to take full effect. If you're exposed to the influenza virus shortly before or during that time period, you might catch the flu.
Mismatched flu viruses. In some years, the influenza viruses used for the vaccine don't match the viruses circulating during the flu season. If this occurs, your flu shot will be less effective, but may still offer some protection.
Other illnesses. Many other diseases, such as the common cold, also produce flu-like symptoms. So you may think you have the flu when you actually don't.

Believe what you want.
Works for me for the last 20 Years = no flu.

Ah, wrong answer, sorry.

Thank you Sac! This is exactly what I was looking for. By the way, I also started taking the Diatomaceous Earth 2 weeks ago, currently at 1tsp in the morning. Think I read somewhere in the 2,200 posts that DE is positively charged, and attracts viruses, bacteria, etc., that are negatively charged. Or vice versa, but the same effect. Also, question for the group, has anyone here had success preventing or treating flu with Thieve's Oil? As I am about to start spending 3 weeks rounding at several hospitals here, I'm wanting to cover all avenues...

Every winter I put thieve's oil ingredients in the tea pot I keep on the wood stove. This fall I got lazy. It was an unusually nice autumn so I didn't keep changing the ingredients every week and got lazy and just put plain water into the pot a few times. I caught a cold before Thanksgiving, which went into a sinus infection. Coincidence? Who knows. I have been religious about keeping the teapot water changed with new ingredients every week since then. We've been well ever since.

#BREAKING - A 12-year-old boy in Palm Beach County has died from the flu after his family said he had cold symptoms for only two days.
https://wsvn.com/news/local/12-

January 24, 2018

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - A 12-year-old boy in West Palm Beach has died due to complications from the flu virus, his family said.

Dylan Winnik, a seventh-grader at Okeeheelee Middle School died Tuesday afternoon, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Winnik’s mother’s partner said the boy suffered from what they believed was a cold for about two days. However, when Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies responded to Winnik’s father’s home, the 12 year old was already dead.

The family told the Palm Beach Post that Winnik’s symptoms did not seem serious, and said he had not received the flu shot.

Winnik’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his funeral expenses.

According to the CDC, 30 children have died from the flu so far during the 2017-2018 flu season.

Please check back on WSVN.com and 7News for more details on this developing story.

His picture is at the link. Cute kid. Jeez....................... :(

Plainfield woman, 37, dies days after being diagnosed with the flu
By Brenna Donnelly
Published: January 23, 2018, 5:17 pm Updated: January 24, 2018, 8:14 am

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Plainfield mother Karlie Illg Slaven, 37, has died from complications related to the flu, family members tell 24-Hour News 8.

Karl Illg, Karlie’s father, said she worked for Indiana University in grant management and spent the last week of her life caring for her husband and two sick children. Illg says Karlie had not received a flu shot this season due to a scheduling conflict at work. She always made sure to get her shot, he said.

“She took care of all of them,” said Karl Illg. “Then she got tired, she got rundown.”

(Provided Photo/Slaven Family)
Karlie was diagnosed with influenza Friday at a clinic and went to a hospital emergency room Saturday with serious symptoms. Illg says she was released but returned to the hospital early Sunday morning, unable to speak. Karlie was admitted the Intensive Care Unit with pneumonia and passed away early Monday morning.

“This can’t happen. She was only 37, had two little kids,” said Illg. “I shouldn’t have to write her obituary.”

Illg says Karlie’s husband had flown to Dallas, Texas Sunday morning on assignment with the National Guard but returned by 5 p.m. Sunday to see Karlie before she passed. Illg says a parent should never have to write an obituary for their child, and he would like to take out an ad in the newspaper every year urging readers to get their flu shot.

“Just prompt people to get their vaccinations and their shots, and get it taken care of,” said Illg. He knows if Karlie had gotten a flu shot, she may still have gotten the virus. But he says if any of that vaccine was effective, her body would have built up at least some antibodies that might have helped her fight her infection.

“Three of the four of them got sick,” he said, referring to Karlie and her children. “Three of the four of them had a shot. The only one who died was my little girl who didn’t get her shot.”

The Indiana State Department of Health reports January is the deadliest month for influenza this season, but warns the data doesn’t suggest flu season has hit in full force.

“We have not yet seen through our surveillance data that the flu season has peaked yet,” said Pam Pontones, Deputy State Health Commissioner. “Influenza is notoriously unpredictable so we are not sure when activity may peak which is why we continue to monitor activity very closely. Influenza typically runs through the end of April so we still have quite a few weeks yet to go.”

Indiana has seen 54 influenza-related deaths from Dec. 31, 2017 through Jan. 13, 2018. The season total stood at 79 on Jan. 13 and is considered “widespread” throughout the state.

Karlie worked for Indiana University. (Provided Photo/Slaven Family)
“Unfortunately every year people across the country will die as a result of the flu,” said Pontones. “It’s sometimes unclear why some people may die and others don’t.”

Pontones says when you start noticing flu symptoms you should contact your healthcare provider, even with just a phone call, and keep him or her updated on your symptom progression.

“If you are experiencing severe symptoms such as a high fever, difficulty breathing, vomiting, unable to keep fluids down, then it’s a good idea to visit your emergency department,” she said.

Pontones said prevention is still possible, adding that it is still not too late to get an influenza vaccine that may help prevent the flu.

BTW folks, I don't see anywhere to buy the supplement (Medox) they talk about in the article BELOW. It is sold in Europe.
So, I DID instead just NOW order 4 bottles of 90 capsules Natures way BILBERRY (a huckleberry) supplement (that also has elderberry in it). (States that it is 25% anthocyanins)
The cheapest i found was from "LUCKY VITAMIN" .COM .

Multiple effects of anthocyanins inhibiting influenza (flu) virus infectivity

Multiple effects of anthocyanins inhibiting influenza (flu) virus infectivity, decreasing secondary tissue damage and boosting the immune system: How important are anthocyanins in human ability to fight viral infections?

by Raul Corredor MD

The answer to this question has two parts. The first part is clear. Diet rich in polyphenols including anthocyanins helps the human immune system to work more efficiently to protect against viral infections.

The second part is a little bit more complex, specific types of anthocyanins may have a direct effect in decreasing influenza viruses infectivity by decreasing the ability of the virus itself to get into the human cells [1-3] or to be released from infected cells [4]; or by having a viricide effect [4-7], it means that some anthocyanins may kill viruses when they are in the lumen of the respiratory or intestinal tract. From this perspective, anthocyanins are very helpful in our battle against influenza.

Does it mean that anthocyanins can prevent influenza virus infections?

That is not the case; the only way to develop permanent immunity to a given virus is by allowing the immune system to fully respond to it (after exposition to the virus or to some antigenic vaccines).

However, increasing evidence suggests that anthocyanins may help by modulating the efficiency of the immune response in such a way that severity of symptoms and tissue damage may be substantially decreased. This characteristic gets more importance in the light of the increased risk of epidemic spread of new, deadly strains of influenza virus as in the case of the bird flu and the swine flu.

Why some people suffer milder forms of the disease, while others die despite being infected for the same viral strain and despite having similar treatment?

There are some obvious reasons for this, like the genetic background, immunization and the overall nutritional state. However, there are two additional factors: viral load related to the number of viral particles present at a given time in tissue or fluids; and secondary tissue damage [8-10] characterized by the death of cells that are not infected with the virus yet:
This includes at least three aggravating factors, release of free radicals (ROS) and toxic mediators from dying cells infected with the virus; release of ROS and inflammatory (by activation of the pro-inflammatory NF-kB signaling pathway, by inducing airway hyperreactivity, and by gating apoptosis mediated by mitochondrial DNA oxidative damage) mediators by immune cells, and side effects of antiviral medication[11-16].

Both of these factors are modified by mechanisms that were described above to be associated with the therapeutic effects of anthocyanins. As example, In the immune system anthocyanins induce macrophages to secrete tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) [17, 18], TNFα has a strong viricide effect [19] decreasing influenza viral counts up to 28% in cultures of kidney cells [17].

Similarly, polyphenols neutralize influenza A virus directly in culture [4, 20, 21], and inhibit viral adhesion to cell membrane receptors in vitro [1, 3]without affecting cell viability [2].

Unfortunately, only few clinical studies showing the importance of anthocyanins in influenza treatment and prevention have been performed [22, 23], just enough to put in evidence the need for additional research studies.

However, extensive research in vitro[4, 24] and in animal models in vivo [25], constitutes demonstration of anthocyanins-mediated antiviral effects; which is of particular importance if it is noted that the antiviral effect of polyphenols is not significantly affected by viral mutations because they are binding to the viral envelope lipids or sugar moieties [6].

How much is an adequate, therapeutically effective doses of anthocyanins?

There is clear justification to consider anthocyanins in the treatment and prevention of the flu (specially having into account that in case of an epidemic outbreak, it may be potentially difficult and stressing to get the formal antiviral treatment from the health system; no antiviral medication is 100% effective, and viral responses to medications change over time). However, although not toxicity has been reported with anthocyanins, it is not clear the amount of them required.

Medox™ is a presentation of anthocyanins with the highest (80mg), standardized concentration of anthocyanins available (and includes additional 115mg of other polyphenols). Anthocyanins have been shown to help in the seasonal flu [23], and are a good alternative to complement other measurements; including diet, since this amount of anthocyanins and polyphenols (equivalent to the amount contained in Medox™) would imply daily consumption of many pounds of a combination of anthocyanins-containing fruits and vegetables.

Ainit, I've been buying Bilberry from Amazon for years now and my husband and I take it everyday.

We have not gotten the flu and have to be out in public a lot due to all of our traveling.

Love this stuff and it's 1000mg per soft gel, 180 soft gels for $12.79 Amazon Prime! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004R68MFS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Oh, and it helps night blindness.

After two weeks of taking this (several years ago), no halos when I see bright objects, completely gone and I can see normally at night now.

I used to see a 'halo' around my super white British Shorthair cat Bee Bee when I took him out in the backyard on bright summer days but after taking this, no halos and my doctor now takes it. V

Trivium Pursuit,

Sorry if I confused you - I certainly didn't mean to. Personally, I'm eating dark grapes with black pepper every day, as well as drink an 8 oz. glass of 100% dark grape juice (i.e. Welch's Concord grape, or whatever else is available) too.

The darker grapes have the highest amount of Resveratrol, which is supposed to stop the flu virus from replicating. It also is supposed to heal cell damage.

You can also find Resveratrol in peanut skins, or as supplement in the Vitamin aisle in many grocery or health food stores.

From the last I'd heard, it was unknown if Resveratrol's benefits still happened after being broken down in the gut. It was discussed that people might want to keep the juice (or supplement) in your cheek (like chewing tobacco) for awhile, where it could be absorbed whole into your bloodstream.

I chose grapes because they have the Resveratrol and because I don't know how long the TNF-a lasts in the body. I do not know if Blueberries or Elderberries have Resveratrol. If they do, then maybe that would be a game-changer.

Fwiw, just my two cents and I've been out of the loop for awhile...

Saved, to glorify God.
Eating Prunes will also help fight off flu (10 a day, NOT EATEN ALL AT ONCE!!)
They are packed with anthocyanins and a LOT of other health boosting nutrients.
It Surprised me when I learned they actually help LOWER blood sugar if eaten only 2 at a time throughout the day till you get to ten. I guess it is because of the fiber, sweetness, and tendency to reduce appetite.

There are other bugs floating around that are NOT influenza, but are nasty. Hubby and I are on the tail end (I hope!!) of one we caught soon after Christmas, and which has morphed from just a nasty head cold into attacking our weak points... Central nervous system, with severe spinal nerve pain, leg weakness, and now severely blurry vision. Oddly, while hubby has glaucoma and has had cataract surgery, so it's not unexpected for him to have symptoms, I'm also having issues. Mine was mostly just really watery eyes during the acute phase of the illness, but since last night my left eye has felt inflamed (doesn't look any different, though) and my vision is blurred to a point that I kept checking my eyeglasses, expecting to find a huge smear in the center... they're perfectly clean.

It's a darned weird bug.

FWIW, I had my yearly physical a couple days ago, and of course they asked if I wanted the vaccine. We got to talking about the flu. They are having loads of people coming in with dead on flu symptoms - high fevers, chills, body aches, cough - they are testing everyone with those symptoms, and only about 10% are testing + for the flu! There is some sort of nasty virus in this area that mimics the flu.

However, DH's school sent an email out today that one of the students in his class tested positive for type A - so it is here. Just mingled with other nasty bugs.

UGH. Stay on top of things everyone, this isn't the year to pass off symptoms. Too many healthy strong people are dying.:bwl:

(ETA - oops, just saw ST's post above. Sounds like the fake flu must be all over the country??)

On TB every waking moment
DD went to doc this morning.

She got sick yesterday - headache, chills, sore throat, body hurts all over and started a 102 temp last night.

She tested negative for both flu and strep but her throat is infected so they gave her an antibiotic and zyrtec.

I told her to still be careful because they can get false negatives sometimes.

I am sending her some standardized turmeric tonight, but what I have dose not have piperine in it and the store is out of it.

Hopefully neither of the two little ones or the two big ones will get sick.

I just got over something too. I'm not sure what it was but it was significantly different and worse than a normal cold. It went through everyone at work. Most two or more weeks but I got over it in five or six days.

Not everyone is the same for instance I'm hypothyroid and rarely can I get a temperature even when I'm VERY sick.

I have suppressed immune system and don't believe I can get a Cytokine Storm. I don't worry about this but if it occurs up the Curcumin extract.

Sambucol - Went through three 8oz bottles in four days (dose every two hours at least first two days (lots initially))
Vitamin C - Natural (not Ascorbic acid) (250mg every two hours)
Querticen - About 2000mg/day
Zinc - 30mg/day
Iodoral Iodine - 1/day
Turmeric Curcumin extract - approx. every 4 hours
Echinacea / Goldenseal
Ginger Tea with Manuka Honey & Lemon (lots)

Summerthyme I'm just getting over mine and what ever this was bothered my eyes too. Normal colds never do this to me. Also I believe the reason these illnesses effect the nervous system is due to Cortisol depletion. Fighting it off depletes cortisol reserves. Low dose supplementation (10 or 15 mg hydrocortisone divided doses/day is enough to supplement without suppressing the immune system) when ill can be beneficial.

I have to run to the grocery today. Maybe I should wear a mask. I use hand sanitizer as soon as I get in the car.

Flu has killed 67 in NC to date

79 flu-linked deaths in Indiana have been reported so far this season. DH and I are staying away from groups of people as much as we can. We did go to the home show in Indianapolis yesterday but at the time of day when it was least busy and we were careful not to touch railings or door handles. When I go to the grocery store, I keep my gloves on so as not to touch anything others have handled. DS and family in Kentucky and DD and family in Seattle have all been sick with the flu this month but recovered without problems. My sister in Ohio came down with it right after Christmas and is still coughing, but she is over 70 and her immune system is weak. It took her a long time to get over the worst of it.

The coughing that comes with this flu is terrible.

I ended up going to urgent care on Sunday because I was still having trouble breathing. They found my lungs were clear but determined that the air sacs were likely hyper-inflated due to all the coughing and shallow breathing. She said I should do deep breathing exercises daily for a couple of weeks and that would take care of the breathing problem.

We have several types of flu here, strep, and various other bugs going around.

I came down with strep the Friday before Christmas, so no celebration that weekend.

Our two grandsons, (6 and 3) had strep 2 and half weeks ago. They had a nasty rash that comes at the end of strep. Then caught the flu a week later, one had Type A, the other one had Type B. Their little sister had an ear infection. The Dr was concerned about them "swapping" flu types, so the whole family was put on Tamiflu. Yesterday was the first day no one was running any type of fever in about 2 and half weeks.

Our twin grand daughters had flu last week, Type A. They have recovered well.

The Hubs has a cold...whew.

In Arkansas as of yesterday 70 people have died from complications of the flu.

Nasty flu season this year. Nasty.

never had a FLU shot - even as a child and never had the FLU. we do coloidial silver and 2000 mg EMERGEN C at the first sign of ANY sniffle or sneeze. after getting vit D3 blood levels up to the top of the "NORMAL" range, we also take 10,000 IU of D3 every other day beginning in the late fall continuing through winter and into early spring. during the summer that dose is taken every monday and thursday.

heard some nursing homes around Atlanta are actually ON QUARANTINE to prevent their residents getting it--it's that bad.

Some of my health-conscious friends (natural-health) were desperately trying to get this item that they said does wonders in fighting it--but it's selling out fast and getting hard to get:

The only things I have found helpful with the coughing is to use my albuterol inhaler every 4 hours, prescription cough syrup, diffusing DoTerra's Breathe, & using DeepBlue on my chest. Drinking tons of water trying to move this junk out. This is week two (about to start 3rd week) and it just hangs on.

Sounds like it might be an enterovirus. They can attack the central nervous system, and they can also cause viral conjunctivitis.

I am sending her some standardized turmeric tonight, but what I have dose not have piperine in it and the store is out of it.

I bet you that you already have the piperine and she does too. It is on the table already no doubt.

(Freshly) Ground black pepper. It has the piperine you need for the tumeric. You need very little to boost the tumeric. We mix it ratio 5:1 in the capsules.

Indiana flu deaths are now reportedly at 107.

NC deaths up to 67.

A friend in Buffalo has been using Ocsillococcinum and vicks. He started about ten days ago with a sore throat, then it went down into his chest. I've been calling each day just to check on him, he lives alone. Yesterday he finally sounded like he's turned the corner and not coughing continually. He said he's beginning to feel human again.

I think I had what Summerthyme is describing 3 days before Thanksgving. The back of my eyeballs were burning; never experienced that before. As a contractor, if I don't show up for work, I don't get paid. But it knocked me out Monday-Sunday that week...

We are recovering from it. Dh tested postive for type A, he has no spleen so of course he takes all the shots. I can't take the shot and we got over it equally fast. His temp rose to the level of having to go get it checked out, 100.5 but other than being very tired he was good. I have a cough but that's par for the course for me. Now to get the house back into order.

I work in a preschool, other than me, none of the children or other staff have had it. Usually if I get something it's from the kids, this time I think we caught it when we went out to eat dinner, we were both sick within 12 hours of each other. First time I've had it since 2001, I had just taken a break from taking my Sambucal, bad move on my part!

No flu here but I had the weirdest cold back right before Christmas where my eyes felt cold.

Not burning, but like I'd rubbed them with Vicks Vaporub or peppermint oil. That kind of cold.

And then they'd water.

So I started taking Monolaurin which is a very powerful natural anti-viral and Boy Howdy this stuff works!

The original product is called Lauricidin https://smile.amazon.com/Lauricidin...103730&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=monolaurin&psc=1

But I'm taking another brand of Monolaurin and it works great! https://smile.amazon.com/Health-Sun...id=1517103730&sr=1-5&keywords=monolaurin&th=1

I'm taking 2 capsules in the morning and 2 at night. So far, no flu when everyone else around me has it! V

Any truth to putting cut onions, in the room? Our 5 yo GS has the flu.

I don't know if it works but it can't hurt to try if your 5 yo doesn't mind the smell.

If you have dogs or cats around, just put a lightweight screen over the cut onion so they can't lick it or eat the onion, as onions are toxic to cats and dogs. V
