I don't know anything about skip tracing and haven't really been following the Brian Laundrie/Gabby story. I do know a little about the AT. Yes it's like 2K+ miles long but it's like a great big small town. People know each other and keep track of each other, they see things and pass gossip up and down the trail.

There's a lot of people involved with the trail. There are the thru hikers and day hikers. Some hikers have hiked it more than once. Scouts working on the trail or walking it in troops. Various trail clubs that maintain sections of the trail and shelters along the trail. BTDT. There are or were non-profit search and rescue groups that specialize in wilderness rescues. There are park rangers who patrol, find lost hikers and help keep the peace. There's folk who provide trail magic, yes that's a thing. I've run into military from the UK on the trail. In and around Camp David? Hikers may or may not see our military. I guarantee you they're there. Property owners along the AT (not all of the trail is on government land) keep an eye on who comes and goes.

I'm not mentioning moonshiners, wild mushroom hunters, weed growers, poachers, Ginseng growers/poachers etc. No not going to mention them.

This isn't 1995. A lot of the trail follow ridge lines. Yes there are dead spots, lots of them. but in this day of cell phones? Cell service can be a short uphill hike away or available on the other side of the ridge.

Hiding on the AT? Might be easier said than done. Doing it long term without outside support? Is it possible his family hid caches along the trail and sent him the GPS coordinates? Possible. Still not seeing hiding out on the AT as a viable option.

Only place we sometimes cross the AT in our local rambles is NW of here in Damascus/White Top, VA. Boone is for specialist doctor visits for us and seldom at that, since Boone is at least an hour away even on the newly 4-laned highway.

We are not likely to see any of the dramatis personae here in Ashe. We have banjo music after all :D

I don't know where this "Appalachian Trail" thing got started. Nowhere near unless their's a leg in Florida. I haven't even really been paying attention, but noticed in passing yesterday that this Dog guy is down searching some Island off St. Petersburg Fla.

Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman on Wednesday contracted a private search and rescue K-9 team to search an island called Egmont Key off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida, in his search for Brian Laundrie.

A crew of four people carrying backpacks and other supplies left on boats with three K-9s. Chapman confirmed to Fox News that he hired the team for help in looking for Laundrie, a fugitive person of interest in the disappearance and homicide of his fiancé, Gabby Petito.

Dog and his team found no conclusive evidence that Laundrie was on Egmont Key by Wednesday evening.

"We're out here at the island," Chapman said in a video posted to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon. "This would be and could be a perfect spot for him to hide, not too many people out here."

Egmont has a pilot house, a ranger station and a lighthouse that was built in 1858 but is primarily a wildlife refuge. The entire island is 450 acres and lies about two miles southwest of Fort De Soto Park – a distance easy to kayak under the right conditions.

There is speculation Laundrie may be in hiding off the coast of De Soto, where he and his parents went on a camping trip between Sept. 6-8, according to a park ledger.

Chapman announced Saturday he was entering the search for Laundrie, and tips quickly poured in. He told Fox News he received a tip on Monday that Laundrie’s parents spent the night in Fort De Soto Park with their son twice in early September from Sept. 1-3 and Sept. 6-8.

He later added: "Allegedly, what we’re hearing, is two people left on the 8th. Three people came in on the 6th, and two people left on the 8th. I think he’s been here for sure."

Laundrie and Petito were on a cross-country trip in a Ford Transit van over the summer and had spent weeks documenting their trips out West before Laundrie returned home to Florida on Sept. 1 without Petito, who was reported missing on Sept. 11. Petito's remains were discovered eight days later on Sept. 19 in Bridger-Teton National Forest in Moose, Wyoming, where tipsters spotted the couple's van at a campground in the area.

The FBI and local law enforcement have been on the hunt for Laundrie since he returned home. Laundrie's parents told officials on Sept. 17 that they hadn't seen their son since Sept. 14. A federal court in Wyoming issued a federal arrest warrant against Laundrie last week.

Michael Ruiz is a U.S. and World Reporter for Fox News.

Apparently he likes to hike & camp but thats a long, long way from living on the land; that requires some serious skils and a few resources.
If/when BL gets caught, I'm thinking its more likely he'll have been hiding in plain sight. Easy enough to change his appearance & camo w/ clothing choices. If he's got access to funds/resources and keeps out of trouble, he could fly under the radar for a long time. If he keeps his mouth shut/doesn't talk in his sleep, he could disappear.

I don't know, Chapman might just find Laundrie.

Back in 2003, Max Factor heir, Andrew Luster, jumped bail and disappeared during his trial for drugging and raping several women. He was later convicted in absentia.

After about six months "Dog" Chapman found Luster in Mexico apparently living it up at a resort. Chapman and his team went down there to bring Luster back to the states. The take down was messy and they all went to jail.

But, it all worked out, sorta. Luster is serving a reduced 50 yr. sentence from the original life sentence thanks to a California judge.

The FBI said it was no big deal, they would have eventually found Luster.

Sounds more like an old man's fantasy.

If Brian's parents are in on it, I can see them getting someone to swoop in and take Brian out of the area.

Brian Laundrie case: Police answered dozens of 911 calls at home since day before Gabby Petito disappearance

Stephanie Pagones

There were at least 46 911 calls related to the North Port, Florida, home of now-fugitive Brian Laundrie between Sept. 10-27, according to police records obtained by Fox News Digital.

North Port Police Department provided Fox News Digital with 46 pages of records related to 911 calls with an incident location of the Laundries’ home – the home where Laundrie resides with his parents, and where he lived with his fiancée, Gabby Petito, before she disappeared and was later found dead.

North Police police would not provide logs for calls made before the afternoon of Sept. 10, the day before Petito’s mother reported her missing, and the records were partially redacted. The department also only provided records through Sept. 27, instead of through the requested date of Sept. 29.

There were at least two calls placed on Sept. 10, one just before 4 p.m. and one just before 6:30 p.m. And three more were placed on Sept. 11, the day Petito’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, filed a missing persons’ report with the Suffolk County Police Department in New York. Police returned on Sept. 14, 15 and 16 and twice on Sept. 17, records show.

The records do not indicate who placed the 911 calls and all summaries have been redacted – only providing a brief description, such as "Problem Settled," "No Police Action Needed" or "Report Submitted."

The most recent records provided by police were from about 5:10 p.m. on Monday, with calls earlier in the day at 8:06 a.m., 8:28 a.m., 1:29 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 4:13 p.m., records show. Apparent reasons for the 46 calls include "Disturbance," "Follow Up/Investigation," "Patrol Check" and "Public Service."

Petito, 22, and 23-year-old Laundrie met on Long Island, New York, where they grew up, and began dating after attending high school together. They later moved with Laundrie’s parents to North Port.

They embarked on a cross-country road trip in mid-June with the plan to visit national parks and popular hiking trails in a white Ford Transit, which they had converted into a camper van.

On Sept. 1, months after they began their trip, Laundrie returned to the North Port home in the couple's van, but without Petito, officials said. Police seized the van from the Laundries' home the same day that Schmidt reported her daughter missing.

Laundrie was subsequently named a person of interest in Petito’s disappearance, and on Thursday, the FBI issued an arrest warrant for bank card fraud. Authorities alleged he used someone’s Capital One Bank card and the personal identification number during the time when Petito was missing.

But Laundrie also subsequently went missing, his parents claimed through their attorney.

After Petito’s missing persons’ report was filed on Sept. 11, Laundrie would not cooperate with the police investigation, officials said. The Laundries’ attorney released a statement on Sept. 14, in which he announced he had advised his clients to remain "in the background." The family revealed three days later that they had not seen him since Sept. 14.

Laundrie is still missing.

Petito’s body was discovered near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on Sept. 19. A Teton County coroner ruled the death a homicide but has not yet announced the cause.

Don’t have clue where he is, but the Dog character saying the Appalachian Trail seems more plausible. As I have said before, Florida swamps and forests Suck this time of year, period... :kaid:

Why Internet Sleuths Think Brian Laundrie May Be Hiding Under The Dirt In His Parents' Garden
The video shows the mother bending over in the garden and putting something and it looks like something on the edge of the garden box is reaching and getting what she puts there. I see something, but I have no idea if it is a hand, but weird lol

His parents have more than enuff money to hide him someplace other than under a garden.

Sure, but would they?

People do weird things under stress. "Mommy, Daddy-I just killed my GF." would put someone under stress. Add-in the Nooze being all over their asses from Day One. However, unless they had the hidey hole pre-dug it seems unlikely as where is the dirt and such from the digging? One is unlikely to dig a hole more than five feet before ground water seepage starts-the sand becomes cold, clammy and damp. I dug a lot of ditches in Florida.

Also, it being Hurricane Country-no one is going to dig a hole and climb into it to live without a lot of pre-planning. It is not really a place people have basements.

You lost me…I’m saying no way are his parents hiding him under the dirt of their little raised garden bed.
I doubt that’s even doable.
They have money. He could be anywhere or right under LE’s nose in that house but he’s not under a garden.
Now where did I lose you at kiddo? lol

I remember that. Dog did a very good thing in that case and justice was served.

My pet theory is that Brian is staying at or near a relative's home, rental property, or RV.
