I received a USAlert: POTUS orders select reserve and individual ready reserve units of the armed forces to active duty.

Supplemental Info:

Order authorizes "to active duty not to exceed 24 consecutive months, such units, and individual members of the Ready Reserve under the jurisdiction of the Secretary concerned, not to exceed 1,000,000 members on active duty at any one time."

Dear Madam Speaker: (Dear Mr. President:)

Effective today, in accordance with section 301 of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1631), section 12302 of title 10, United States Code and sections 2127, 2308, 2314, 3735 of title 14, United States Coda, I am authorizing the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security, with respect to the Coast Guard, to order units and individual members of the Selected Reserve, and certain Individual Ready Reserve members, to active duty to augment the active forces for the effective conduct of coronavirus disease response. This authority is necessary to ensure the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security can properly conduct operations required to meet our evolving security challenges and to support the United States Government response to COVID-19.

A copy of the Executive Order I issued is enclosed.

In the same way that MarkD pointed out that "THEY" were scared dickless in EARLY January, and were panicking, grabbing almost ANYTHING they could grab or setting every duck they knew they had in a row, BUT, doing most of it on the 'down-low' this is essentially the same thing...
Tony Fauci must have taken Trump aside and explained from what they are seeing yesterday, today, and will see Saturday and Sunday that the numbers are going to be STAGGERING and BAD things are going to be NEEDED to hold this down to a shit circus with 40-50 rings. And THAT will be by PURE LUCK if we keep it down to 40-50 rings.

Gonna be a BUNCH of Snowflakes and Sky creamers with VERY disjointed noses come early next week.

Here in our neck of the woods the virus seems to be about everywhere. It's spread out geographically, which means lots of folks are getting infected. Clusters, sure, clusters exist...call them the first one's out the gate. Pray for the front line medical folks. Pray they get the protective gear this week, get it there, and keep it coming. They need to spread it out everywhere in medium amounts, and then continue to restock them. It should all not be going to New York, doll it out everywhere and keep it coming. Create our own just in time delivery system. There's no better time. Triage, New York first.....maybe Frisco... for the good of the people. If we ignore the mega losses, we can save everyone else. Escape from NY, sounds like a good movie title. This one would be "Contain it to NY".

I have been wondering where our TB2K ahead-of-the-curve analysis went. We were way ahead in January and February. Lately I've been seeing some hopium-induced normalcy bias creeping into our virus threads, and THAT is truly scary.

The dots don't lie. April is going to be the most tumultuous month any of us have ever lived through (or not :eek:).

Yet, the order reads "with respect to the Coast Guard " which tells me this is only regarding the Coast Guard's "units and individual members of the Selected Reserve, and certain Individual Ready Reserve members"

So, dumb it down for me. What am I missing?

Most likely it's a nothingburger, but, President Trump is most likely pr-empting a media blitz of "why didn't you do something".

It's just worded that way since Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force are DOD (Department of Defense) and the Coast Guard is under Homeland Security. Trump is simply authorizing the Secretary of Homeland Security to call up members of the Coast Guard Reserve but not other agencies which fall under Homeland Security.

So the two Secretaries are authorized to call to active duty members from the 5 aforementioned branches' reserve forces.

The numbers POTUS is authorizing line up with the Cold War national recovery plans post strike/counter-strike from the Cold War. The difference is the kind of mess we're looking at. Not blasted cities and issues of fallout. This in its worst scenario for C-19 in some ways makes a post-nuke exchange almost look preferable.

Medical. There will be a call up, most certainly, and some units are already "pre-mobilizing, I am sure, but Crowd Control? Anything is possible, and these are some crazy days we're living in, but I just don't get that vibe.

Most Counties in the San Francisco/Sacramento area are now like some of the more rural states in counts. Mine was slow to start, but is already at 83 with three dead. Santa Clara alone is at 574 with 20 deaths.

There is a 720 bed nursing home in San Francisco where 5 nurses and a porter tested positive with some patients symptomatic. That could explode like the one in Washington State on steroids.
