CRISIS Ammo shortage about to get even worse

SGA has a new banner on their home/front page as of today:

Due to extremely high demand and very limited supply we are very short on inventory at this time. Things will come and go as we receive and sell shipments but it may appear to always be sold out unless you are proactive in getting notified. For items of interest I recommend to use 'notify..' button next to the price to sign up for text or email notification. Orders placed at this time are expected to take between 1 to 7 days to ship out, depending on what we have to sell and order volume at that time.

There may come a time, in the not to distant future, that online ordering and shipments may become more problematic. Stuff tends to 'disappear' when availability reaches a certain point. I've had two orders cancelled due to availability (ordered while showing in stock, but later out of stock prior to shipping) and one order pending a UPS tracking investigation as it's 'lost in the mail'.

This is all hogwash, just like the toilet paper shortage. In time, this too shall pass! Relax. There is ammo around, just need to look in the right places.

Unlike the toilet paper shortage, which only had a single cause, to wit, the Chinese plague, the guns, ammo, mags shortage has multiple i.e. Chinese plague, upcoming elections and zombie uprising. I’m all stocked up for a good long time on these items simply because I saw the upcoming elections and whatever comes after it as reason enough to worry. So I’ve spent a shit ton of money on ... things all during 2018 and 2019, and told people to do likewise. Not my fault they didn’t listen.

The Tula 9mm and 45 tends to be fairly hot so it will run in most guns. Even with the prices up about 300%, it is still a great deal if you don't have any.

Look at the bright side, under the democrats plan, they will tax ammo so high it will make todays prices look good, so there will be lots available. If you don't have a properly registered gun in the caliber that you want to buy, you wont be allowed to buy any. You will have to buy from a FFL and have a background check with each purchase, no online purchase.

As bad as it is, it will still look great in a few years.

Conversation today at local gun store in Central PA:

Me: Get any 9mm ammo in?

Clerk: Yes, one box limit. $25.00.

Me: That's crazy!

Clerk: So-and-so online is selling it for $50 a box.

Me: That's twice as crazy!

The Clerk then goes on to tell me that within a year he thinks it'll be $100 a box.

He could be right, but I decided not to buy a box at $25. He had been selling single boxes at $18 just a week or two ago.

I have another gun store in my former AO that I prefer. Last time in there, owner charged $14.50 with a two box limit.

One local gun shop, 20.00 50 rounds, 3 box limit per day. One shop 15.00 one box limit per day per brand of 9mm, one shop 30.00 for 50 rounds loose in a bag no limit. Local Armslist 5-600.00 per 1000 rounds so 25.00 plus per box. Duhnams 9.00 per box the other day no limit but steel case. I got five for the range and a cheap 9mm I have.

LGS just announced today that their distributor price is now $30 for a box of 9mm (50 rounds).

They are selling it at cost, limit 1 box per customer, and said if it goes up again, they will not be ordering more

Everyone should realize that the current and coming ammo shortages and price increases are not merely the result of the civil unrest we see around the country. That's certainly a factor, but the government's unprecedented money creation (inflation) guarantees higher prices for everything.

Even if ammo shortages are somewhat abated going forward, there will still be the inevitable price increases to contend with. A constant feature of inflation is that - for most people - rising prices are not compensated for by an increase in salaries or other compensation.

Bear this in mind when shopping for ammunition or reloading components.

One gun shop (central PA) was able to purchase what the owner termed "a large amount" of unboxed 115 grain Federal 9mm. He was selling it in ziplock bags, 50 rounds for $20. How dystopian is that?

He also was able to get some Hornady Self-defense rounds in 9 mm and in .40 in the usual sealed plastic box. Now that got my attention! 20 rounds for $26. I picked up two boxes without complaining. I don't anticipate seeing those too often going forward.

By the way, he sold out of his zip locked 9 mm in just a couple days.

Bought a box of 9mm Winchester 124 grain of 23.00 at Buds in Lexington last Thursday. Felt like a good deal.

stopped in at local gun shop today, a very big one, Guns Unlimited in Omaha Ne, a week ago they had 3 8ft tables of 22 mag stacked high, today only about 1/2 a table, very little ammo, had 25 acp and 32 acp. then 45 colt or 45 csul, 44 special and 44 mag, rifle was thin. no semi auto ammo, and hunting = bolt gun ammo is very low. then a bit of good news, still a 30 ft long shelves full of powder. they had gotten in bullets for reloading to. got 5 bxs of hornady 140 grn 277 dia bullets at regular price, they had quite a bit of bullets, but no .224 at all. no 9mm pistol bullets, actually extremely thin on pistol bullets, no rifle or pistol primers, but cases of shotgun primers, pallets of shotgun ammo, all small shot, this place caters mostly to trap shooters, they must have had 8 wood pallets with a huge 3 ft tall box of bags of shot. and racks to the ceiling of shotgun wads, they have a 40 ft of wall with glass cabinets for pistols. mabye 1/3 full. and most were unwanted cals, or high dollar guns

The conventional wisdom was always to have firearms in common calibers so ammo would be available "Anywhere" you were .22LR, 5.56, .38/.357, 9mm, .45 ACP, .308 and .30-06 were the usual prescribed ammo choices.

The current ammo run is the second time this decade that this "Wisdom" has proven faulty. The above calibers are the first things to disappear or increase 4X in price.

I can still buy .22 Hornet for the exact same price it was last year, it is now cheaper than 5.56. I can buy .22 Winchester Magnum for the same price it was last year and is no more than any top shelf .22 LR.

The libtards are always preaching "diversity". Applying their theme to your firearms collection may have some merit.

I have large amounts of .22, 5.56 and the common calibers mentioned above, bought cheap and stacked deep. Now that it is stupid priced and harder to get I am still buying ammo every week, but have moved to the odd ball calibers that I own because there is strength in diversity.

I don't think a bad guy would complain that I shot him in the face with a .35 grain .22 Hornet at 3200 FPS instead of a 55 grain 5.56 travelling the same velocity. The same for my 45-70 lever gun or 45 Colt revolver.

I disagree.
Diversity in Arms, as in Society, is a recipe for disaster.
Logistical support is easier for a caliber lean arsenal.
The standard .22lr/9mm/5.56/12ga arsenal has merit (add .308 or 6.5CM if distances allow).
If one had stocked as they should have during the recent "good old days," there would be no need to worry now.
I'd rather have more ammo in fewer calibers than more guns a wide variety.
Amateurs talk Tactics, Professionals talk Logistics. -Paraphrased from Bonaparte

I would venture a guess that many (most?) will fail to learn the prepper's lesson from these lean times, just like the last......if we even see the "good times" again.
JMHO. YMMV.

Ocala gun show last weekend, small show, went 2 months ago as well.
Ammo: more of it for sale, but at higher prices, i.e. 40$ for 50 rds of .40 S & W.
Knives: quite a few, full range from junk to excellent. 1 dealer had about 30 Randalls.
Magazines: fewer for sale, but prices still level.
Firearms: lots of tactical stuff, prices high but not outlandish except for a guy selling 4 SKS rifles for about 800$ each. Good luck on that one.
Made a deal with a private seller for an old Ruger model 44, not a bargain but I've had a sweet tooth for one of these for a long time. Probably pick it up tomorrow.

"Priced out of the market" is usually a customer thing. You know it is bad when it gets to be a dealer thing.
I just ordered 2K of 9mm bullets (1K JHP and 1K heavy FMJFP) because of this.
Paid upfront, with delivery in 2 months.

All of my guns are 22LR (CCI Velocitor HPs), 45ACP (Ranger RA45T HPs), 5.56mm (Israeli IMI M193), and 454 Casull Magnum (my 255 grain LSWC home reloads). Slightly over 44,000 bullets counting my 454 home reloading supply.

would that be from RMR, Rocky Mountain Reloading? ivebought a lot of bullets from them, they cut way back on what they offer , again letting the machines run instead of downtime for a change, they dont have any 230 gr 45 listed at all

It is RMR. They have eliminated quantity discounts for buying over 1000 of any type. With plinking grade 9mm ammo going for $30 a box now, the bulk FMJ suppliers will stay out of stock as the small commercial reloaders buy up all of the available stock assuming they have the powder and primers needed to load it. At least RMR is doing backorders. Montanna gold and precision delta are just out of stock.

In the future, after the firefight with the zombie/commie hordes, need to be organized.

1st order of business, 1. deploy security, 2. tend to wounded, 3. battlefield logistics collection !!!

I just took my kids and a few friends shooting at Knob Creek Gun Range here in our AO. They had a massive amount of ammo in every caliber. No limits. I picked up a couple boxes of .45acp to pad my supplies. Very grateful to have a ready supplier nearby. I don't think they ship but if you're in the neighborhood it would be worth a visit.

Went by a local place and sniff sniff the only 9MM he had was the Defense kind, and no cheap plinking rounds 50 @ 47.00 most were 9MM+P in several varieties. Stacks of 5.56 in the 20 round box 16.00.

And then there are the kids. Each gave me a 325 rd. box of 22LR. They love me. It's great.
