No, that's not how it works. Attacking forces try to have a numeric advantage, but that doesn't mean their casualties will have to be higher. We attacked the Japs all up the island chain and conquered them. We had 100k killed and they had 1.75M killed in the whole war. I don't think there was any island where our losses were close to theirs.

They did not pick Zelensky any more than we picked Biden. I can't blame the common ukrainian for the hell that is being visited upon them, and I know we are soon next. But there are many among them (and us) who were willfully ignorant of the violations of principles and did not speak out. It is too late to make things better under human power. They have controls of most every power center now. I would guess it is less than 2 years and we will hear the seven thunders roar and the giants will be released. What else could they (or us) do but escape the reach of the monsters who want to put the people into the meat grinder?

Not debating your numbers at all, but on another perspective:

The north being the aggressor lost more, but they also had a much bigger pool to draw from, and eventually won. And if you use percentages, rather than actual numbers, the south causalities were in the 40% range while the norths was in the 30% range.

I don't know but the war in Ukraine may be the same. It is obviously the same as far as the pool is concerned.

While Moscow has been always ready to hear a “serious proposal” from Washington “aimed at resolving the current situation,” the message from Blinken contained no such information, Lavrov stated.

Ahhh... some may see this as good news. I see this strategically as a death knell. This tells Russia and China: ok, they got the technology to work although they can't even show a prototype picture. We cannot wait until they go into production. Advance the clock.

If I were running the show, I would keep this secret until we had them in the field and ready to go.

I'm not sure how to take that- they are ahead of this announcement or they are still just wishing and hoping? Since previous tests were failures, my guess would be the latter. It still alerts Russia & China to move things along smartly.

True. There are many factors which determine success in war. Defenders may have advantages of home territory knowledge, prepared structures, established kill zones, interior lines of logistics & communication. Attackers have advantages of surprise, the ability to pick targets, the opportunity to control the execution of the war, the potential to be a moving target- harder to hit.

In modern warfare, both sides try to gain all these advantages by having flexible lines of defense and break-out mobile firepower weapons.

Key point in the article: Despite completing its final test flight, DARPA said there is more work to do in the HAWC program, as additional data needs to be analyzed, and the technology has to mature - It traveled more than 300 nautical miles (345 miles/555 kilometers) at speeds five times the speed of sound.
So a this is only a DARPA R&D proof of concept - ongoing.

Russia - has SEVERAL hypersonic systems deployed - several are hypersonic glide vehicles but one of their system getting the most attention is their Kh-47M2 Kinzhal (Dagger) entered operational service in 2017! And while the DARPA "success" representing the current BEST the US can test - range 300 miles - speed Mach 5. The Russian Dagger is capable of a range of 900-1250 miles at a speed of up to Mach 12 (or better) and has actually been used effectively in Ukraine.

So Russia "the gas station with nukes" needing to harvest computer chips from washing machines in Ukraine has somehow developed, deployed (over 5 years ago) and used what is likely the most advanced air-launched ballistic missile in the world. Three to four times the range and over twice the speed of our best current R&D efforts.

As noted many times - Russia is not Iraq, Libya, Serbia or any of a dozen of other nations that could not fight back or hit the US directly.

Come on man, it was cold outside, the guards simply built a small fire to keep warm.
It is not like metabiota was developing russian specific bioweapons or something else equally outrageous.
When was the last time some secret lab somewhere released, say an enhanced virus that infected a western competitor and eventually the rest of the world?
Things like that only happen in novels and movies.
