This is a tough one. So many to pick from. 4 different series, and each had multiple seasons. I think I will try to pick my fav episode from each of the 4.
Series 1 - Star Trek................................. Spock's Brain.
Series 2 - The Next Generation........ Tin Man
Series 3 - Deep Space Nine...............The Search
Series 4 - Voyager................................. Year of Hell
I can not tell you why I picked those 4, other then that they were the first episodes that came to mind when I thought about each of the series, so they got picked.

I grew up watching the original series, which is the only one I really care for. I was mesmerized by Spock. As a kid I was trying to sort out emotional thinking versus logical thinking and Spock was my idol. His way of thinking helped me determine what I believe to be a logical thought process for working out problems.

Compared to other sci-fi productions of that era, the TOS was well done and quite innovative. It's sad it only lasted three seasons. Considering its popularity since the original run, I think cancelling that series was a huge mistake. It could have been another Gunsmoke, which was so popular it got 20 seasons.

In today's culture there should be Spock clones in the blue lib infested cities teaching the young how to think, considering most if not all of the mentally disadvantaged libs think solely with their emotions.

TNG is my favorite. Honorable mentions are the episode where Data has creepy dreams and the one where Dr. Crusher gets caught in an alternate reality. Then of course there is the two parter where Picard becomes Locutus. (I know, I'm being lazy about the titles).

Dishonorable mention is all of Voyager. The series seemed to have episodes with the most random plots (Space Salamander people, Belana breaking into two Klingon and Human women, the episode where there is an alien artifact giving everyone PTSD about atrocities they didn't commit (and they leave it RUNNING!!??))

Enterprise for me, though after binge-watching all episodes - twice over the years - I am done.

As a child I would watch "Lost in Space", but even as a child, I found it too childish. Once when channel-surfing I found the original Star Trek, and was immediately hooked. The original series was great for its time, and I remained a fan through all the movies (except Star Trek 3).

The dialog in the Star Trek spin-offs is usually pretty bad: but not as bad as Star Wars.

I was never a Trekkie, I was just someone who enjoyed watching the shows which I guess puts me in the minority. But I wanted to respond to what Dennis said about Kirk was a cowboy and Picard a diplomat... I thought of Picard as more of a cruise captain a lot of times...but on to my point.

That's why I liked Kirk over Picard because he was a cowboy and you need a cowboy when you go into unchartered areas of space. Someone who is willing to give bloody noses and impregnate their women until they understood to not mess with the Federation. And Picard was right for his role as someone who worked in established territory that had the luxury of being able to be diplomatic, Kirk didn't have that luxury.

Things like that are what actually makes discussions like that interesting because I've realized both captains were right for their roles. I can't name a favorite episode as it's been quite some time since I've watched either. I will say I got burned out on TNG because of all the techno-babble that seemed to save the day too many times without actually doing much. And I did enjoy Enterprise other than that crappy opening song by Bon Jovi... should have used Metallica.

Loved both TOS and TNG, but hated Voyager. I just never was able to get attached to the Voyager characters. I did enjoy DS9, although I liked a lot of the side characters more than some of the main ones. Letant and Martok were especially fun to watch. The same for Enterprise. I really hated a lot of that series; the main characters were rather dull and their storylines sucked, but some of the side characters--Commander Shran, Ambassador Soval, and the vulcans at the medical exchange in the episode Stigma, etc.--were brilliant.

Next is VOY (Voyager) with Kate Mulgrew as Captain Janeway. During first run, I watch two eps and refused to watch it again. It was painfully bad IMO. First, Mulgrew’s voice sounded like someone who’d smoked for 40 years. I actually couldn’t stand to hear her speak. Then there’s Tuvoc, a BLACK Vulcan (spare me.) Then Nelix the Talaxian, who was a manipulator and liar in the beginning. And the outrageously annoying doctor! I hated his arrogant ass with a purple passion. The list goes on. Anyway, one time YEARS later, I had nothing to do one weekend, so I started binge watching it. Shockingly, I found myself enjoying it, and eventually really liked it. I even got past Mulgrew’s voice. Voyager became my favorite franchise.
I simply couldn't get my mind past the thought that basically Voyager was simply "Gilligan's Island" set in space. :(

You make a great point. TOS made so much money in syndication that Roddenberry and Company had to have had some second thoughts about ending it.

I know they had some turmoil going on back then. Maybe some of our trekkies can speak to that. I think if we compare the episodes of all 3 seasons, the 3rd and final season are the weakest. Seems like the writers were losing some momentum.

No. That would only be true if they were on a floating island lost in an uncharted ocean, beset with attacks from both pirates and deadly creatures

TOS was canceled after season two. More accurately, the cast and crew got the notice toward the end of filming for season two. When the tens-of-thousands of letters came flooding into Paramount, they rethought their plans and reversed them - ON THE CONDITION that the filming budget be reined-in considerably. This was agreed to, and a third season was filmed, with significant cuts to sets and FX.

without a doubt Enterprise was the most confused mess of all the franchises - the tailend episodes with the time travel and WW2 re-write was the best of the show

I grew up with TNG. I had seen TOS on the TV from time to time, but my age group was spoiled by better graphics and such that TOS just didn’t look good.

I did watch DS9 and enjoyed it as a sci-fi fan. I missed the exploration aspect of ST and felt DS9 really got going when they went to war with the Dominion.

At some point I was able to watch Voyager. It reminded me a lot of TNG with the never before visited exploration aspect along with the getting home storyline always in the background.

I felt ENT was OK. Kinda the same ranking as DS9. Worth watching as an overall sci-fi fan.

Of those series, my favorites were TNG and Voyager. My favorite characters were Odo, Quark, and Garek from DS9. I really liked the Data concept for a character in TNG and also felt the Doctor in Voyager was an interesting story line. I also enjoyed Worf’s character and some of the story lines written for the character.

This new batch of Star Trek is OK. The problem now is that everything has to be even more in-your-face political than ever before. The graphics are great, but every sci-fi show coming out has to have LGBTQ to the max. It can’t just be one member of the group either. Doesn’t really bother me, just makes me laugh at how hard these producers and writers are trying to show how woke they are.

From IMDb.com, re TOS:

After Season two, Star Trek was very nearly cancelled. After a fan-led campaign a third season was finally commissioned by the network providing a budget cut of 25% was instigated. This is why the third season has little in the way of location filming, re-used and re-purposed props and recycled special effects footage. Seasons one and two already had tight budgets anyway so a reduced budget was always going to be noticeable This episode (Spectre of the Gun - Dennis) is one example where the budget cutbacks started to become apparent as the producers tried to keep expenditures down.

For me, I remember waiting breathlessly for TOS to come on every Saturday afternoon.. and hoping it was The Doomsday Machine episode!

Liked TNG, DS9 and Voyager. Enterprise was mostly ok. Discovery is crap. SNW is not bad.

Star Trek's Seven of Nine Finally Joins Starfleet In Picard Season 3, Rank Revealed
By JAMIE LOVETT - July 27, 2022 10:32 am EDT

Star Trek: Picard is bringing back the original Star Trek: The Next Generation crew, but it'll also mark a major milestone for a Star Trek: Voyager fan favorite. Jeri Ryan returned as Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Picard, but rather than a Starfleet officer, Seven had become a member of the Fenris Rangers. Star Trek: Picard's second season revealed precisely why Seven never joined up with Starfleet, but after getting a taste of command via a field commission from Adm. Jean-Luc Picard, it seems Seven decided to enlist full-time. The Star Trek: Picard Season 3 teaser released at San Diego Comic-Con revealed the first look at the new season's characters, including Seven in a Starfleet uniform.

Seven is wearing command red, suggesting she's looking to lead. Star Trek: Picard Season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas confirmed on Twitter that Seven holds the rank of commander, though whether she goes by Cmdr. Seven of Cmdr. Hansen, reverting to her birth name of Annika Hansen, Matals declined to divulge.

Picard's second season revealed that Starfleet initially rejected Seven's application because of her time as part of the Borg Collective. There were fears that she could compromise Starfleet security, if not by choice than by Borg's control. Adm. Kathryn Janeway, Seven's commanding officer aboard the Voyager, threatened to resign her commission in protest after Starfleet passed its judgment. This tactic seemed to work for Icheb, another former Borg drone rescued from the Delta Quadrant, but Seven chose to withdraw her application and join the Fenris Rangers before things finished playing out, perhaps hurt by Starfleet's lack of trust.

But Star Trek: Picard Season 2's alternate timeline provided Seven with the opportunity to experience life without the prejudices brought on by her Borg implants. It seems that Picard saw something in her abilities. When they returned to the present day of the Prime Timeline, with Capt. Rios having remained in the past, Picard handed command of the Stargazer over to Seven, temporarily, to resolve the conflict with Jurati's mysterious Borg faction.

Official Star Trek Timeline Revealed
By JAMIE LOVETT - October 10, 2020 05:24 pm EDT

The Star Trek timeline is laid out for all to see in a new video posted on StarTrek.com. The video chronicles the events of the Star Trek universe from the Big Bang (visited by the Star Trek: Voyager crew in the episode "Death Wish") through the destruction of Romulus in 2387, as revealed in Star Trek (2009). The video charts the place of every other major event between, covering all seven Star Trek television series to date and all 13 movies, including those that take place in the alternate Kelvin Timeline (Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Trek Beyond).

Some of the milestone markers on the timeline include time travel trips to the past, such as Kirk, Spock, and McCoy's visit to 1930 in "City on the Edge of Forever." Another is the Eugenics War, a conflict caused by genetically-engineered "supermen" like Khan Noonien Singh. The war lasted from 1992-1996 and according to the timeline, nearly plunged the planet Earth into a new Dark Age. Warp drive is invented in 2063.

In 2151, the events of Star Trek: Enterprise begin taking place, concluding in 2155. The Federation is founded in 2161. The year 2233 is when the Kelvin timeline diverges from the prime timeline. Star Trek: Discovery kicks off in 2256, ten years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. The Enterprise's five-year missions takes place over the course of that series from 2266-2269. It concludes in the now firmly canon Star Trek: The Animated Series, covering 2269 through 2270. The events of the Star Trek: The Original Series films take place from 2273 (Star Trek: The Motion Picture) through 2293 (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country). The events of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager take place — at times, overlapping — from 2364 through 2378. Star Trek: Nemesis, the furthest point in Star Trek's prime timeline canon (aside from the destruction of Romulus), takes place one year later, in 2379.

Star Trek Timeline
(Photo: StarTrek.com)
Nemesis is the furthest point for now, but that will change in 2020 (of our timeline). Star Trek: Lower Decks will take place in 2380, one year after Nemesis. Star Trek: Picard will take place sometime after Romulus's destruction. Star Trek: Discovery will jump even further into the future, landing in the year 3187 for its third season. It's good then that this video ends with a "to be continued…," suggesting a second installment that will cover Star Trek's future.

Still better than you might think in spite of that. I tried the first episode out, which was like an hour long two-parter. I almost thought it was a Star Wars property at first. Then they found a clearly Federation vessel and that's when the Trek part kicked in.

Though that might be what killed the Federation in Discovery. Forget about this "burn" business; it's every captain in the fleet gleefully stomping on the Prime Directive for several years that did that job.

Carrying the mantle of doubt
We're currently watching Discovery, and while the first couple seasons were OK and the many references to previous Trek series are interesting, this is not Star Trek. It should be retitled Woke Trek, Diversity. Finishing it up is getting painful with nearly every scene oozing with feelings and emotions; rushing to a shuttle bay to avert disaster but having time along the way to have one or two heart-to-heart talks ... is just too much. Gene Roddenberry must be turning over in his grave.
