Just got back from Fiesta in south Austin. Store is very well stocked. They had lettuce, but it was $1.69 a head, which my wife says is expensive. They did have it, however. Didn't check the paper aisle. I noticed a display by the register which was some strange brand of disinfectant wipes. The package said "Designed in USA" and "Made Responsibly in China". Okay.

I see some twisted descriptions on things.

All in an effort to avoid the "made in china" label.

Head lettuce at the cheaper store here in Ca desert us 1.49 a head. Green leaf is 2.29 , and Romaine is 1.99. Plus it has been lousy,
Ye gods and little catfish! I'm going to ask my neighbor that delivers for LA's produce mart to get me some.

Things on end caps at local Walmart: gallons of water, hand sanitizer, off brand liquid dish soap and cleaning products, bed pillows, small lamps (for dorms), back to school stuff, beach towels, children's summer toys (balls, plastic baseball bats, gloves. Looks like they've brought the rest of the grills inside to fill space.

Lots of gaps in canned veggies. Rice was low but still had a dozen 10-pound bags of a foreign brand I've never seen.

No limits on anything. Most of the floor signs (keep 6' away) are gone -- several left up front, none in back.

Adult and children's winter gear (hats, gloves, boots, coats) are in. Weird to see them across the aisle from bathing suits.

Note to those shopping for hoodies: outside of the farm stores, hoodies are very thin, almost "don't bother" weight. I recommend paying more for the heavier ones. If nothing else, they will hold up better in the wash.

Further note: if you have to keep your heat down this winter, it will pay for itself to have comfy thermo undies. Wear them under sweat pants if they don't fit well under your jeans. They are coming into stores in our area (Central Iowa) now. Remember the cotton shortage . . . if you see them and need them, get them on the spot. Don't wait. That was my task this morning.

Cuddle Duds are my absolute favorite warmth underwear. Lightweight, washes up and drys quick and long lasting

I got some cheap pork butts (bone in) and yesterday canned about 3 dozen pints of pork.
I hadda get a new rubber ring for the canner though.
two dozen of the jars were raw packed pork, but the last batch I cubed the pork, browned it before canning and then canned it with Rays BBQ sauce for quick BBQ pork sandwiches.
I gotta get more carrots and can them.
I can get canned green beans, peas, and corn, CHEAP but carrots, spinach, beets, and other less popular vegetables are still high priced. Carrots ARE cheap, they should be cheaper than they are now, in canned form. I'd like to get some cheap yams and sweet potatoes to can also.
I'm thinking of taking a ride over to TACOMA to the restaurant supply place for the cheapest vegetables

I know others have been looking to add to their stash of canned pumpkin. My Krnger must have just re stocked. It was full of name brand and generic, both large and smaller size cans. The little blue sticker was there even though it was stocked. I assume that means they don't really know how often they'll get shipments in. I bought a dozen or so cans. There was at least 5 times that left. Also, my WM seems to get random shipments of canning jars. The past 3 or 4 weeks they have had 3 flats of quarts. If you need them, keep walking by where they keep them. You might find a few.
It took some hunting, but my Kroger had canned pumpkin in the baking aisle. (On the bottom shelf)

Neither here nor there.
Looks like Progresso soup is on sale nationwide Fareway here in town has the large cans on sale 3 for 5, HyVee has it on sale in their weekly flier and Aldis even had some in stock in their seasonal aisle. I bought 2 cans of Campbell's cream of chicken to make tuna noodle casserole sometime this week, they were $1.88 each and a can of beef consume for $1.88 All soups, chili, and veggies were very well stocked, all the way to the back of the shelf, at Fareway. Aldi had some holes, they had diced tomatoes today but no paste so we bought that at Fareway. The dried fruits and nuts at Aldi's was very well stocked this time and the only thing missing that I really wanted was a jar of the white queso sauce. Some restaurant here in town bought all twelve cases apparently,.

Keystone is still $6.28 at Walmart too - and they had quite a bit when I was there a week ago.

Will check again tomorrow because I have other prep stuff I need.

BTW - the MSM is waking up to the fact that people are stocking up. Saw an article on MSN this morning about the 6 things stores can't keep in stock.

1. TP & PT
2. Frozen pizza's (they can have my share)
3. Pasta of any kind as well as spaghetti sauces, tomato sauce, etc.
4. Meat
5. Rice and beans
6. Flour and baking supplies

And we've known this for how long??????????

The other day, My Kroger store had that spaghetti sauce that comes IN MASON JARS.
I never bought it before because it was more expensive than the other sauces.
The other day it was on sale and it was only $.25 more than the other brands.
SO, I thought I cant get the jars for a quarter elsewhere, so I bought a dozen mason jars of spaghetti sauce!

I've started buying Classico because I can reuse the jars for canning, and it's actually not bad either.

I give up.
Went shopping today at my FL Winn-Dixie. I haven't been posting much on this thread lately because everything has seemed to be OK there. You can even get paper towels, but unless you want to buy a big pack which is expensive you can't really buy single rolls anymore. We don't use that much of it, so........ I didn't notice anything on the shelves was short today at all. Even plenty of pasta and rice, meats, produce, etc.

I've discovered the Classico sauce, too, and have been getting a couple of jars each time I go to my little store. I do think I got the last ones a couple of days ago, though, so I'll fall short of the dozen I was hoping for. I don't think they'll be getting any more now, since the spaghetti sauce shelf had just been crammed full of a brand I've never heard of before, something with a colorful cheap-looking label.
-----
Decided to check those mason jars of spaghetti sauce, and found I'd badly misremembered how many I had gotten. I have 19 of them! Talk about a major senior moment!

Now I'll have to hope they keep getting in more of them so I can get up to exactly 24 of them, which will eventually give me two cases of nice pint-and-a-half jars.

I’ve been to our Kroger three times this week.

The only things I still see with holes is the same old, same old.
Paper towels
Tomatoes in cans.
Chlorox wipes (which a few enterprising companies have stepped up with their OWN brands and they are trying to fill the holes. Those don’t last long either but at least it’s something)

Do you mind sharing the brand of the ones in Mason jars?

Did my bi-monthly grocery shopping today at Meijer, and it was odd. Everything for the most part was extremely well stocked, except for a few glaring holes. One was paper plates—totally wiped out. Another was pickles. Only a few spicy type pickles left. And the third was canned meats. No Spam at all, no corned beef, no corned beef hash. But they had lots of paper towel, toilet paper, Lysol wipes, yeast, flour, and sugar. The canned veggies and fruit were light, but not empty.

Paper plates have a polymer coating on them, there’s a shortage of that polymer right now, along with a shortage of paper pulp for the plates. See 5he wood shortage thread in the bomb shelter.

This “beef in a bag” as we call it, is major prep food for us. It’s very good and versatile. It can be a bit dry as there isn’t any broth in the bag. Still, we love it!
The one in pic does say 'in beef broth', did you buy the same thing, or something different? Haven't seen this in our MN Costcos, maybe regional/seasonal?? Would love to find it. Also, pricing??

Thanks so much, will be on the lookout!!

Wow, good price. How's the taste? Tender? Can you eat it straight or do you need to smother it in sauce?

Is it w/ canned chicken/tuna/ items?

Re paper plate shortages: I added some plastic "Take Alongs" (cheaper food storage boxes) and some plastic plates and bowls from the camping section to my pantry for outdoor eating. Depending on what you are serving, foil packets or pita bread stuffed with fillings and then wrapped in wax paper or plastic wrap might also work.

I added paper plates, bowls, and plastic forks, spoons, and knives to my pantry for eating out and in case I get sick, too.

It's always good to have some options.

It is the same one. I never noticed the “in beef broth” on the label! It definitely is not swimming in juice—it is somewhat moist and there some fat in the bag that solidifies when it’s cool.

I guess it’s just important to know that you may need to add your own broth or other liquid, depending on how you are using it.

The bag costs $9.99 at our local Costco. I think that’s a great deal for 3lbs of ready to eat meat.

It’s interesting to note that we live in the middle between two Costcos. One carries the beef all if the time, the other one never has it. The two stores are 40 minutes apart from one another.

I have been known to eat it right out of the bag while I’m prepping

The taste is good and we have eaten it on the plate just as it is with a veggie or startch when in a hurry. Having said that it’s not as flavorful as your own roasted and seasoned beef that comes out of your oven.

I will add it to soup, make shredded beef tacos or enchiladas, and I’ve made a kind of stroganoff sauce for it too. Oh, and topped a salad with it adding a balsamic dressing. I’m sure there are 101 ways to work this in to a meal plan.
