Has anybody tried these roasted beans from Amazon?

Seattle's Best Coffee Portside Blend Medium Roast Whole Bean Coffee, 12-Ounce Bag

I have metal canned green coffee beans and know how to roast them. It's hard to find, but also have some metal canned ground coffee as well.

I saw these and thought it might be worth adding a few bags at $4.48 of roasted beans for more short term storage and use.

Neither here nor there.
Agree 100%

We sat our target to complete by Oct 15th. We finished early but are still picking up odds and ends when they are available to extend past our planned stocking.

If you want to have it, you'd better be getting it very soon.

Agreed and that was our projection date for completion as well... that said if Fareway still hast them I'll be picking up extra bags of dried beans this weekend, especially lentils.

That's what we've been doing as well "packyderms_wife". We still are being hermits as much as possible, but when wife or I run across something that is worth the price and is looonger storage items we've been making the trip and getting them.

Only thing I'm bummed about is our Berky sprung a leak around its spout and I have to replace it. I didn't have a spare or two onhand. Goes to show no matter how well you think you've planned there is always something else you missed.

For sure! I've tried to stop myself from even thinking, "I've got everything I need for now" because it seems to get Mr. Murphy's attention, inviting him to come and visit. The latest was having a porch light burn out. Guess who had plenty of indoor light bulbs but no extra porch lights?

That's fixed, now.

Lol, OC replaced the fluorescent light bulb and starter switch over the weekend, I'm glad that's done now, it does make you stop and look at the rest of the light fixtures in the house.

Yes! I found I had also missed garage door opener bulbs. Also fixed, now.

I'm trying to be realistic: I can't store a gazillion things, but light bulbs are part of security and health (I don't want to fall because it's too dark), so that was a "must remedy" on the next store trip.

Agreed on it being a security issue... hence the reason a closer look at our lighting in the house, and what can be replaced now or bought and replaced in the near future. Old houses suck when it comes to issues like this cause it's not just a light fixture that needs replacing sometimes it's the wiring as well.

Rumors from sources in education (looming school shutdowns).

Rumors from grocery stores
(looming product shortages).

Rumors from state government sources as Covid case numbers rise (looming shutdown).

Rumors of government preparations for delayed election results and social unrest (looming martial law?).

Only rumors.
Should we ignore them?

I picked up a lot of 9 mm ammo a few months ago. Why? Rumors of upcoming shortages. Those rumors proved to be true. No 9 mm available now.

It seems prudent to increase preps going into November, just in case.

Sometimes rumors come true.

When you guys say "hearing rumors" where are you hearing this? I'm stocked up on a lot of things and will continue to add to it each trip to the store, but I'm curious as to where these rumors come from
I posted on the bomb shelter word I got from work about my small grocery store chains being told about feminine products running out this winter. Confirmed conversation not a rumor. May not affect larger chains but will impact 3000 "Independant" regional chains stores

Is your store an IGA? And I can see this happening. When covid hit back in March a lot of friends and family members were caught unprepared and ended up resorting to cloth pads and diapers.

You want to buy something from SEATTLE after all the crap going on there? Where the hell is your head man!

Go to Black Rifle Coffee and buy from them.

Geez....

This article basically says that almost all ships and shipping containers are presently booked, and that a lot of US retailers are, or will be, low on inventory.

My wife is going to make a sizable order of Epson printer cartridges tonight based on that story.

AT $4.88 a bag for roasted beans versus $15.00 for the same size bag from BR, I'll bite my lip and get some of the cheap stuff.

I already have different kinds of green coffee beans stored in metal cans, but this is for having in between for wife (I can't have caffeine and haven’t for 13 years) and maybe even for trading if it comes to it.

Maybe I'm having a dumb blonde moment. But isn't this GOOD news?

It means an abundance of products becoming available vs. no products to ship at all, correct?

This is the info that I was looking at Cyclonemom.

"Inventories are historically low. There is rising concern that companies will not be able to import and deliver enough goods to meet consumer demand during the holiday season.

The New York Times cited rising concerns over the so-called “shipageddon” scenario, in which the retail supply chains and parcel shippers descend into chaos as Christmas nears.

A report released Monday by investment bank Jefferies warned of “empty shelves and raided storerooms,” noting that “it’s not just local grocers running out of essentials.”

“The summer and fall stages of the U.S. recovery have been marked by incredibly strong retail and housing sales, which have both surpassed pre-COVID levels by a wide margin,” wrote Jefferies. “Due to the torrid pace of sales and virus-related supply disruptions, inventory-to-sales ratios have plummeted to record lows.”

The Evercore ISI survey found that none of the consumer-business respondents thought inventory levels were “too high” or “a little too high.” Only 10% said they were “about right,” with 30% believing they were “a little too low” and 60% answering “too low.”

The implication is that retailers still need to bring in a lot more goods, primarily from China."

Ground pork $4.49 a pound, they have to be kidding. Since ground pork is made from left overs when cutting it up. So we went to Costco and bought a 7 lb. pork roast for 2.29 a pound and will grind it up for homemade sausage and to have ground pork to make my Swedish meat loaves with.

Central Ohio Aldi visit yesterday. Shortages starting again? Some issues of note:

Lettuce was in stock but looking sad and slimy. Not paying 1.59 for that! I have heard there is a lettuce shortage at the moment.

No pepperoni, first time I've ever seen it completely out. Maybe a lot of folks making their own pizza...? Once you figure out homemade bread, pizza dough is an easy jump.

No bacon, and aldi has the best, least expensive bacon. This was the 3rd time in 5 weeks I'd been to that store and the bacon was gone. Maybe it gets bought as quickly as it comes in and I'm missing it? Never seen bacon missing for such a long time.

No canned pumpkin again . But I have seen it elsewhere .

2% milk was 2.19/gallon

All purpose flour was plentiful and 1.15 a bag.

Eggs were .72/dozen, paid 1.99 at Kroger last week.

85% ground beef was 3.39/lb, wish I could have afforded to buy more.

Peanut butter looked good, God forbid we have a peanut butter shortage and I dearly hope that rumor is just speculation!

When everything went sideways in March I became concerned with my supply of feminine products, I have a teen daughter and still have need myself. I found some sellers on eBay who made reusable washable fabric pads so I bought a bunch. Haven't tested them yet. Not seeing shortages of disposable pads in stores yet but that would NOT be a good thing to run out of.

Went grocery shopping after work today. Been going weekly to stock up as much as is practical. Last week the store (WalMart) was well stocked overall in the grocery area. Tonight - not so much. I walked each aisle twice to really take a look and saw a large number of empty spots. In particular canned veggies, pasta and sauces as well as fresh produce. Significantly more holes on the shelves than a week ago. Was able to get what I had on my list but seeing a number of shortages. Hour west of Oklahoma City - town of approximately 10K. Keep at it folks, we may be in for a very rough ride soon.

If you really want to know if the shelves are empty or not, try taking a picture and then look at it.

I don't know if it's a trick of the mind or what. But a picture can often show you things you've missed.

I do it when house cleaning. It is easier to see something I've missed when looking at it as a pic on my phone vs. standing there in person.

Or maybe my brain is wired weird....

If you live anywhere near the north side of Indianapolis, or without giving away too much, in Hamilton county....the Kroger stores here (at least in my town ) have tons of pumpkin all stacked up and I saw the same thing at our meijer store!
At BOTH Meijer stores I went to just snooping around... maybe it’s regional with the pumpkin thing or it all just arrived a few days ago but either way there was a LOT of it!

IF YOU REPLACE LAMPS AND FIXTURES WITH LED LAMPS.............THAT CUTS THE LOAD ON THE OLD FIXTURE AND OLD WIRING BY 80-90%
