Still had a lot of grills which I was surprised about since they had none at the beginning of summer.

I noticed that in several stores. I wonder if either they've brought them in from outside to fill in empty spaces or they just recently received the shipment that was due back in May.

My local Walmart seems to be setting out whatever they have. It's a mixture of spring, summer, and fall stuff. One warning: the shoe department had very, very little. Mostly flip-flops that were spread out all over to fill in the spaces. When shoes are in short supply, that usually means the supply chain is in bad shape.

Sunday I did a Kroger run in the Central KY area. The store looked better in some areas and worse in other areas.
I saw bleach for the first time in a long time, as well as yeast. I haven't seen yeast here since Feb-March.
Ground beef was running around 6/lb. Chicken 3.99/lb.

No lemon juice, no lime juice, very little chicken stock or broth.
Soup area had been condensed, instead of half the aisle in length it was a quarter of the aisle. I'm pretty sure the bread aisle has been condensed too. Mac&Cheese was very very low.
A lot of the stuff advertised on sale just was not there.
Oh lettuce was out except for organic brands.

There were so many holes that I changed my shopping plan, and bought anything that looked low that we use frequently.

We went to Kroger in Russellville Arkansas. We usually get great baking potatoes there. This trip, they were pitiful. We skipped them. We didn't need canned vegetables, but I looked down the aisle as we went by. Where the green beans and corn usually are, there were number 10 cans of corn on one shelf and number 10 cans of green beans on another. That is the first time I have seen that here. Lunch meat was a little low. But the other meat cases were full. I did not look close. We don't like Kroger meat. The frozen food case we went past was fairly well stocked. Lots of holes in the cleaning supplies, but not wiped out. Of course, no canning lids or canning mixes. Everywhere has been out for weeks.

At the feed store, I asked about a pea seed variety I wanted to plant. The owner said that variety was one that they could not get this year. He also said that he could not get seeds for fall planting, none available. What he had left from spring was all he had to sell. They only sell bulk seeds. You buy them by the scoop and they put them in an envelope that they label. Much cheaper than the pretty prepackaged seeds.

There appears to be a shortage of bottled beer (seems to be mostly Budweiser) here in Denver. Every liquor store we go to has reported being shorted by as much as 60% on their orders. Neither my brother or I can drink canned beer - all we can taste is metallic yuk.

Was in the small one by my house 2 weeks ago and the Bud rep was there - he said he doesn't understand it either.

That does seem to be the case for several brands. Metal taste.

sorry if this is a bit off topic. Had to vent.....going home to visit family and had offered to help my sister prep. Told her the basics should be done first, rice in buckets with Mylar bags. What's Mylar? Like balloon? Then she said, I have rice in the pantry. I have many other examples of the just don't get it....but i am now asking myself is it really worth the headache, when u have to drag someone to a place, then knowing they will the minute u leave, start to use the stash u had helped them build. Thanx, man...what a freaking mess.

There was a report floating around that aluminum cans were in short supply, thus shortage of canned beer causing impact on bottle beer. How was the canned beer supply?

I did several orders yesterday. One with Costco and one with Aldis. Costco had the 35 pack of coke. I think it was 14.95 and their selection is limited. They had steaks and ground beef but were really short on many items. I don't know what Instacart is doing but they don't have half the items that are actually available listed to buy. Im getting fed up with them. When they first started you could choose within 2 hrs or pick an actual time. Now it is fast and whatever. They also started shopping more than one order and delivering more than one order. that is making for chaos and a real messed up delivery app. It starts out telling you in 15 mins and then it goes to 20 and then 25 more and on and on. Finally had to call to India and complain. Its not their fault but I cant understand sing song English on the phone.
Anyway I finally figured out that when I saw onions in Aldis ad and Instacart didn't have any I chatted the person shopping and asked her to check. yes of course they had them. But they only had head lettuce and went downhill from there. Also, their fees are out of sight.
Like I said I am fed up and going to hire somebody to do errands for us.

I also ordered several cases of Tomato Basil soup on amazon along with some Bushes beans. The stores just don't have them anymore around here anyway.

Its been strange here, since the wipe out of ALL the food and canned goods everything has been back in stock BUT at greatly reduced levels. Even when they are stocking the shelves its a much lower amt on them then before

A lot of Texas folks won't like this:

Dr Pepper admits to shortage in stores

Dr Pepper officials made the announcement Monday

Dr Pepper can

First, it was toilet paper and now it’s Dr Pepper.

According to a Tweet from the company on Monday, the popular soda may be MIA from some store shelves.

There wasn’t any explanation given as to why the soda is harder to find than usual, but officials said the shortage applies to all flavors of Dr. Pepper including the “newest permanent addition to the family, Dr Pepper & Cream Soda.”

“We’re doing everything we can to get it back into your hands,” officials said.

KSAT reached out the media relations department at Dr Pepper Snapple Group to see what the reason is behind the shortage. This article will be updated when the company responds.

Charmin responded to Dr Pepper’s tweet saying “welcome to the club. We feel your pain.”

I ordered currants from an Amazon vendor over the weekend for a bread recipe. Currants are unavailable in local stores. The ETA was today. Now it just got bumped to Aug. 20th.

As I said up-thread, soda shelves are decimated. They look like TP was a couple months ago. There are signs up to "please consider buying your desired flavor in 2L bottles."

I saw standup freezers at Sam's Club today. Small, but better than nothing. No shortages there. Everything looked to be in adequate supply, but I didn't go down the soda aisle.

Has No Life - Lives on TB
Our local Costco has no TP. Meijer cleaning supply shelves are empty but had TP.

I was just at the Costco in Issaquah, Wa. which is right across the street from their corporate offices and they had a ton of TP, paper towels but no wipes.

I bought tenderloin steaks for $10 per lbs. which I will be vac packing a freezing.

I didn't see any canned veggies, only canned mushrooms, kidney beans, black olives and tomato sauces.

Only one tiny flat of the Campbell's Simply Chicken Noodle Soup which I abhor, since it just tastes like onion juice with bits of chicken and noodles in it.

Lot's of Chicken stock, rice and many Asian products I've never seen before and will never eat, like dried Sea Cucumbers. I mean, WTH??!!?? Poor things.

None of the wonderful summer sausage they always carried but I bought some back in Feb. before the big rush, as I already knew what was to come.

No more sheet cakes for birthdays and other celebrations, just round cakes.

They had stacks of their wonderful Kirkland brand canned chicken which beats any other brand on the market!

Haven't seen the Kirkland brand canned roast beef in ages, looked for it and nothing. Just tons of tuna and chicken.

The baking section had a ton of sugar, flour or every kind and all the nuts, oils and spices one could need. Very well stocked.

No heavy cream in the walk in dairy fridge nor by the butter section, haven't seen that there in ages also, only at the Costco Business Center down in Fife, Wa. V

Flax seed of all things....not to be found in any store no matter how often I try to get it. I finally ordered a pound on Amazon. It's just one of the things I like in my morning protein shake. Funny thing to come up missing for the past few weeks.

Coolers are what are filling the empty gaps in a lot of stores - Styrofoam or Coleman; or the big fish pack boxes folks take home on the plane. And there are still quite a lot of gaps of the usual items. In the meat section, spaces are usually filled with fresh-caught local fish but lately meats are not in too bad supply here. Just not a lot of options for cuts unless you order from a local butcher.

About done with my freezer rehab project. (found in the back acreage but brother says it should be okay). Will plug it in and see after I'm convinced everything is dried out. Then I have to find a place to park it and start loading it up with meats; would love to get moose and sheep this year in addition to fish.

ETA: I finally know people with CV: My DIL's parents, who live 30 min from here, are both down with it. Recovering at home - he's doing okay, she's having a rough go. Lovely people in their 70s, recovering.

you know what might help? type up some simple basic info on what to prep, how much and how to store and on the bottom of the list add some books like holly deyos dare to prepare, etc. when you talk to someone about prepping and they seem halfway interested--hand them a print out. they can ask questions or not, get in touch with you later or not, its all up to them. but you did your very best to provide info and steer them in the right direction. you give them correct simple info and also are planting a seed in their minds. the rest is up to them. dont forget to drop the idea that in no way can you afford to prep for your family and theirs, they are responsible .

A lot of the stuff missing is due to the shortage of packaging materials... aluminum and plastic to be specific. Though a friend told me that coca cola has signed a deal with an outfit in Mexico that still bottles the product in glass bottles... how soon we'll see this on the shelves here I do not know... they will bottle it here in the states once they get the glass bottles in house.
Coca Cola from Mexico is made with real sugar and comes in a glass bottle. The imported cokes here are very popular. If I remember correctly the Mexican cokes are actually cheaper than the US cokes.

Went to Walmart and saw green beans in #10 cans on clearance for $2.50. Checked another Walmart and the same thing. Both regular green beans and Italian cut green beans. Check the clearance areas of the stores. Lots of good deals there

At one time I had an LDS prep list.

It was well set up for easing people into the process.

As far as shortages,.. not groceries, but we were just in a Tractor Supply. Fortunately, they were well stocked on the dairy cleansers we needed, but wow! The whole store looked like a failed attempt to make it look like their stock trucks are still arriving on time! One entire aisle was taken up by deer carts... fully assembled and lined up side by side to take up maximum room... about 15 feet from the registers, too, so as little as I know about retail, that's gotta be prime real estate. Other front areas had single layers of bulky boxed barbeques (normally, they're outside) and other obvious attempts to fill space.

Hubby was able to get 24 fiberglass fenceposts, but only left about 6 for the next guy. The "trash and treasures" shelves at the front of the store, normally piled high with everything from cheapish (usable... maybe one step up from Harbor Freight) Chinese tool to dog toys to stuffed animals were nearly empty.

Ditto the usual spots next to the registers.

I'm more and more convinced Christmas shopping is going to be a *real* shock for most folks this year. I bought stocking stuffers back in February for the grandkids, thinking even then that the decent stocks of stuff like puzzles, little crystal growing kits, coloring books, paints, etc were likely going to disappear by Thanksgiving. It's looking like I was right...

Summerthyme

They must have sent all the "trash and treasure" junk to my store. They have 2 extra aisles of it now. I don't shop at TS anymore unless I can't find what I need at the local feed store. They made me mad years ago when they became a "yuppie" store and refused to order calf starter for me if I paid for it in advance...

I was at Walmart this morning. Wanted to get some new dish towels. Totally empty! I was kinda shocked. Oh well, maybe next time.

MOST PAINT STORES HAVE SOME NICE RAGS

Small town, SE MI. I ordered online and paid for online - CANNING JARS! Ace Hardware. They brought them right out to the car. Sweet!

ATM I'm canning pineapple. If you've ever had a can of pineapple explode/leak out in your pantry, you know why!
HOW DO YOU CAN PINEAPPLE

Made my weekly shopping trip yesterday. I rotate between aldi, Kroger , and WM Super Center. Went to Wally's and was shocked to find some Lysol wipes for the first time in months. They're so nice to have when the 4 year old pees all over the toilet... boys, lol.

No rubbing alcohol, that has been very scarce in these parts. Will try dollar general in the next few days.

Canned pumpkin has been very scarce since March. I give it to my old dog, a little mixed with rice helps his touchy stomach. Used to be able to find generic pumpkin along with the pricey name brand, but now I'm lucky to find it at all. Hope to see more availability soon, as pumpkin spice season has begun and the demand will be up.

Odd thing while I was in the checkout line. 2 nuns were behind us, in full gear. I'm used to seeing Amish and Mennonite folks but I have never seen sisters in their habbits at any store... It truly seemed like a sign. When I was a young girl I wanted to become a nun, but God had other plans for me.

I ran in the local HT yesterday for gallon freezer bags. A friend on the other side of the county said there were no name brand ones in her stores. I found name brand but geesh......6.50 for a 28ct box! I bought GLAD brand for 2.99. Thought while I was there I'd check on Lysol. Nope. Talked to the little gal working that aisle. She said about once a month they might get a small amount in but its gone as soon as it hits the shelves. She did point out that they had plenty of bleach. I looked and it was a brand I've not seen before. No Clorox brand anything to be found.

I made a trip to the state farmers market yesterday. Never been to that one as its about an hour away from me but I learned you can buy by the case wholesale so I wanted to check it out. It was an interesting trip. None of the big distributors had sweet corn though. They said maybe tomorrow.

I have a 7 yo that still does! Exactly why I keep those on hand as well!

All, I'm posting a link to the Grand Solar Minimum thread because of a podcast I posted there this morning on the food situation.

It's post #980, and the podcast is by Ice Age Farmer titled States Secretly Stockpiling Food for Need Ahead - "To the Roof!" and the run time is 8:34. It's important, and I believe helps explain much of what we've been seeing at the grocery stores:

Gotta say...if anybody is half-way interested, I wouldn't start them out on Mylar and 5 gallon buckets of rice. If you can get them to keep some dry pasta, beans, peas and rice (stored well...say in big glass jars), a dozen cans/jars of spaghetti/pasta sauce, shelf-stable meals like Knorr Sides and canned vegetables, some store-canned meat, a few jars of peanut butter, oatmeal packets, instant coffee and good canned soup its a MAJOR victory. Stuff they can vaguely imagine eating and will eat.

Gotta start with a trickle, not the fire-hose.

This is the best recommendation, IMHO. Even the LDS folks say to start out with a month's supply, then another month's supply, then increase and ultimately work on the long-term storage foods.

Here's a pretty good link by an LDS lady who helps others with building up food storage:
