This too shall pass.
I have a friend who had the french doors unit and she hated it and returned it for the one like mine with the traditional door.
I have a French door countertop convection oven, and I am very happy with it. Though it startled my middle daughter when she was visiting - if you don't get the doors open all the way, they automatically swing shut when you let go of them!

We have one too. Love it. At least 4 years old. Same on the doors

That could be one of the reasons she exchanged hers, she works with elderly disabled people, these are people who have been disabled from birth, helping them with life skills, etc., out of her home. They come daily for meals, etc., I can see this being a problem for someone who is developmentally disabled.

Well, yesterday our printer decided to die on us. My wife has been using it pretty heavy preparing for the new school year, so we had to get another one. I was afraid it'd be hard to get, so I started looking at Walmart and Sams online, while we ate supper. Walmart didn't have hardly anything in stock, in store or online, and Sams listed only one in store in stock, with limited supply. Off to Sams we go and they have 3 left in the model we're looking at. It was more than I wanted to spend, but it came home anyway.

While we were there, I did notice TP and paper towels in stock, but not much on cleaning supplies or canned goods.

She got burnt and IIRC with the unit you posted if the doors didn't close completely and latch the digital unit refused to work. Mine is the old fashioned type with knobs you turn.
I figured since the sell it to their restaurant customers at the Business Center, then it must be useful and I can always return it if I don't like it. V

I was just eyeing a Oster French Door countertop oven at Costco's Business Center website and I might just order it!

My husband, for some unknown reason, thinks we don't need things for the kitchen and that it will clutter up the counter.

I disagree, if/when my almost 20 year old Kitchenaid wall oven goes TU, then I'll have this wonderful counter oven, just in case I can't get new big appliances!

I have this oven and love it. It also has convection cooking and a dehydrate setting. I did get mine less expensive on QVC. I think they may still have some in stock.

Costco had kids’ Halloween costumes.
I saw that too at the Issaquah, Wa. Costco this last week.

I'm going to the Costco Business Center down in Fife, Wa. tomorrow and will post what I see and don't see.

The prices are a bit lower for the same items as the regular Costco and they have better produce and meats etc.

Will post back with a report since any Costco member can go to these business centers, it isn't just for those holding an Executive membership. It is open to all members and they open at 8am and hardly any lines. V

We have a Dollar General and Family Dollar here. Most people go to the DG., and FD is slow. When i went in there i saw a whole bunch of those clorox wipes. No one grabbed them up. I took two cuz i got two at home. I was very surprised to find them., but like i said most people don't go there.

A toaster oven is your friend. I cook meat loaves and other small casseroles in it without heating up the kitchen.
I won't use a microwave and have a toaster oven too. I use it for pizza and burritoes., and chk nuggets. The Bake on it stopped working, but the broil works. I found one in the trash. The man there told me it got rained on but it had worked good. I kept it in the hot car to dry out. Will try it soon. I love toaster ovens!

Not food or grocery but small kitchen appliances are in short supply. I went to my local Wal Mart looking for an air fryer and waffle maker and they were out of both. I just ordered both on Amazon to be delivered tomorrow.
A man told me today that Walmart here in Western NY is all out of bikes. Not one left.

I bought a bottle cream rum and it was SO good. I took 2 swallows and put the bottle in the trunk of my car so i won't be tempted to drink at home. A Porto Rican man told me what they do is to get a can of cream coconut, rum and cinnamon and let it sit for a few days. Add a bit of water and it's yummy.

Dollar General is the only place in our area that I’ve found Lysol and disinfectant wipes. Everywhere else is always out. About twice a week, on my lunch break, I’ll hit the DG across from my work. I felt like I hit the lottery last week. They had Lysol spray and wipes both!

Thank you!

Dennis, maybe this isn't the place to ask, but just happened to wonder...have you ever tried making Brioche bread in your bread machine?

I love that bread, and it makes very good sandwiches, as well as French toast, or just plain toasted, buttered and sprinkled with cinnamon/sugar!

I read that it's a bit difficult to make without a stand mixer, if doing it by hand, but it can be done with a bread machine. One of these days, I'm going to try making it, but can usually get it in the store.

Dennis...I must be missing something....you can use your bread machine...forget the oven! I have a couple of bread machine recipe books with recipes for Brioche bread.

In fact, was looking up recipes to make Brioche bread using the oven, and each one suggested NOT trying to make it by hand, because it takes an excessive amount of time and labor, altho it can be helped along, if you have a stand mixer. Still quite time consuming.

I do have a bread machine, just haven't done Brioche bread, yet.

The brioche recipe specifically calls for baking in an oven after hand-shaping the dough ball. One makes the dough with the machine. That’s it.

One of my many bread machine books, simply called "The Bread Machine Book" by Marie Lambert has a Brioche recipe strictly for the bread machine. Says to set it for white bread, medium crust. (gives the recipe, of course.) If you're interested, I'll type it out for you...not that long.

I must have a couple of doz. bread machine books...I think one other one also has a recipe for Bricohe...short on time for locating it, at the moment.

Not a food shortage report, but if anyone needs Rust-Oleum don't wait to start looking for it. I was at Home Depot early this morning, and the qt size Rust-Oleum cans are almost completely gone. There are more of the spray cans, but they're getting low, too.

I spoke with one of the employees stocking the shelves, and he said they never really know what they're going to get in, but it's been in short supply for a while. No end in sight. Lots of paint brushes/rollers, though.

Based on some of the threads I've seen on the Main in the past 8 months I'm not surprised. Gobs of cooking and gardening threads that could go into those forums, but nope... they believe it won't get attention if it's not on the main. Couldn't tell you where those threads are now, in most of them I did post the links to those subforums.

That was against my will. I needed bread and there was none to be had for weeks. Gotta have bread. Tough to have a sammich without it.
This, just in case the electricity goes out, maybe you should learn to make tortillas, and actually they are a decent substitute for sliced bread, if you just have to have bread. They can be made in a skillet over an open fire. DH and I don't have to have bread and don't eat it every day or maybe even once a week. It usually molds before the loaf is gone.

God is good all the time,

Judy

In general grocery prices are going up significantly in the last six months. Around the beginning of Jan I was spending about $85 a week just for myself and by the beginning of April it was around $100 a week and the last few weeks it’s $125 a week. I basically eat the same stuff every week. As an example I buy preformed hamburger patty’s which are fresh and not frozen and have cheese and spices mixed into them. It’s $10 now for four 1/3rd Lb patty’s. Before the Covid it was about $6 a package of four. I can afford it, people on a fixed income or have several family members face a daunting situation foodwise.

This is why Iowa, at least, has periodic "no questions asked" drive-up food distributions at various churches. I've never seen so many distributions to "everyone." In the past, people had to sign up in advance and provide paycheck stubs and tax forms to show that they were low income.

A real sign of the times . . . and I'm glad they are doing it. That helps keep the crime rate down a bit.
