Tennessee nursing home coronavirus outbreak leaves 2 dead; 101 hospitalized

By Danielle Wallace | Fox News

An outbreak of the coronavirus at one Tennessee nursing home left two dead and more than 100 others hospitalized by Sunday – a week after the state banned most visitors at extended-care facilities.

Dozens of residents were evacuated from at the Gallatin Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, located in Sumner County northeast of Nashville, on Friday after testing positive for COVID-19, Gov. Bill Lee said in a press release. National Guard troops arrived Saturday to begin testing all remaining residents and staff at the Gallatin Center.

Residents who tested positive were transported to one of several hospitals within the High Point Health System using an ambulance strike team of EMS professionals from Sumner, Cheatham, and Dickson counties, First Call, and MedicOne.

By Sunday, a total of 42 people had been admitted and remained in isolation at Sumner Regional Medical Center. Two people had died at the hospital after falling ill with COVID-19, the press release said.

Fifty-nine additional patients were to be transported to Sumner Regional Medical Center for admission between Sunday and Monday after their test results came back positive.

Dozens of other non-critical patients were transported to other facilities for care: 14 to Trousdale Medical Center, 12 to Livingston Regional Hospital, and 8 to Riverview Regional Medical Center.

“Our hearts are with the residents and their families and all of those mourning loved ones during this difficult time,” the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin said in a Facebook post on Sunday. “Sumner Regional Medical Center has activated our emergency plan, which expands our capacity of available beds. We stand ready and will continue serving our patients and community through this crisis.”

Thirty-three members of the Gallatin Center staff tested positive and were asked to self-isolate at home.

The outbreak comes a week after Lee issued an executive order on March 22 banning most visitors at assisted living facilities and nursing homes to prevent the spread of infection.

Unified Command – a joint operation between the Tennessee Department of Health, Tennessee Department of Military and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency – also facilitated the deep cleaning and disinfecting of the Gallatin Center. The state also worked to support remaining staff and residents who did not test positive for COVID-19.

Desertvet2, with all respect, I see a pandemic. It isn't the first; it isn't the last.

We need all the good people we have here to help those who aren't as strong as we are. That includes you, so how about a more positive attitude towards the day after? I don't know what wars you've fought, or the evil that you've seen, or the battles that you might still be fighting, but we need you to help your country get through this. Get strong. You can do this and you are needed. I'm worried about you.
...do not see my viewpoint as negative or defeatist. If I tell you the truth, and the truth is judgement and sentencing...it is what it is.

Mankind needs to humble itself. Recognize that it is not the most high.
This , as with everything...is a cycle. A cycle that repeats.

Much like an engine that has been lovingly rebuilt. It has been torn apart, cleaned, measured, and re-assembled with new parts and seals. It has been carefully broken in. The lubricant has been changed at regular Intervals.

Then after a time, the operator has chosen to run the piss out of it, neglect the maintenance, or even check the fluids. Because the engine was so lovingly refurbished, it can handle this mistreatment...for a time. If the operator soon returns to paying attention to maintenance, and a more gentle touch when operating...and giving thorough Inspections once again, the engine may continue to serve the operator for a long time.

However, if the operator continues on the path to destruction, the engine will blow up between his legs at 100mph....

Sounds negative there at the end, but if the operator would just use good sense, the engine would purr along and be ready at all times for an emergency run at full throttle occasionally.

We are just getting started....

i am so angry that he has moved too slow for my state. We are almost 2000 cases and he said yesterday it’s safer at home but wouldn’t mandate a stay at home order because of our economy. Dead people can’t spend money jackass.

It's a joke. Everyone is still out and about. Friend sent me a picture from Lowe's yesterday. It looked like Black Friday. I am not sure if the people even realized that they would still be open today. My friend has a landscape supply company, they are "essential" and going to work through. I mean getting mulch right now is vital dontcha know
I live in Charlotte, NC. Went out early this morning and it took 3 grocery stores to find enough on my list to stay out of the stores for a long time - at least to get us through the "apex" they said is coming in 2-3 weeks, but for us, at least 3 months. The stores still have no meat, dairy, paper goods, cleaners, cold and flu medicine, but I did find eggs, some butter and enough hamburger buns to last 2 months. We go nowhere, people on my side of town all go to hang out in Walmart and hardware stores for hours every day. It is crazy, people are not taking it seriously. I was terrified to go out with gloves on, using sanitizer wipes, and having Vicks in my nose. Then I had to sanitize every single item I purchased, then threw my clothing in the laundry. I am now exhausted - I feel so bad for the grocery workers, no gloves, masks, only those shields that are supposed to protect them.

My husband has an essential business. He has no employees. He always had customers in his shop but now he has locked his gate to stop anyone from entering inside. A lot of customers are getting angry and yelling at him because he won't allow them inside, they have to stand 20 feet away from the gate, then he will talk to them. They tell him they aren't sick, let them in, then he asks them, do you even know what's going on in the world, you can be sick and not even know it and be spreading it everywhere.

NC closures sound the same as Illinois. About everything is deemed essential. But people in this area and over in Indiana are doing pretty well at distancing from other people. The best thing they did everywhere is close schools. Schools are the main spreaders of the flu every year. Wife and I still go for a ride every day and there are very few people out and about. It is quite possible to still get out for necessary supplies and have a very low risk. Keep your distance and wash your hands often. The guy out running along the road for exercise is no threat to you in a car and the guy loading mulch into his car at Lowes isn't either. That said, I would not go into any store that had a full parking lot.

He has turned out to be a joke. RHINO. Now he has us staying at home until the end of April. No worlds largest fish fry this year either, for the first time. But the thing is that when I went out to the store yesterday (water heater sprung a leak and needed parts) it was busier in this part of TN than normal! Boats lining up at the pumps for gas, RV's everywhere. Folks out just riding around tired of staying home. If the rest of the state is acting this way we are all doomed.

Same for Tate Reeves. Governor of Mississippi. He gave an interview to Brietbart news:

Gov. Tate Reeves: Mississippi Coronavirus Response Is Surgical, Local

It seems to me that not shutting the state down because some counties don't have any cases, is wrongful thinking, in that if he put a shelter in place order out, it would keep them from getting any.

He's worried about 30% unemployment. Big Woop, the 2.2 stimulus package has already taken care of that.

At this moment in time, living on Vancouver island is a handy thing. The ferries are still running, but only
allowing islanders and the people hauling all the shit we need to live onto the island. Our international airport
was closed for international travel, domestic only and that's really limited. The few people we know who still go
into deepest darkest Victoria says it's really creepy, with no tourists it's been taken over by the homeless. The grocery
stores are still well stocked other then for TP and bread yeast. Lots of everything else. We are lucky though in that we
can source alot of our meat local. Hertels that does the best gluten free smoked hams is here on the island as well
as a few beefalow (bison/cow crosses) herds. That meat is awesome. People are still out and about but are good at
observing the social distance thing.

Can hydroxychloroquine prevent COVID-19? Study aims to find answers
By Chris Ciaccia | Fox News

Currently, there is no known cure for the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the globe, but one possible remedy, the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine, has received increased attention in recent weeks. A new study aims to confirm whether or not that attention is warranted.

The study, which will be conducted by the University of Washington in conjunction with New York University, looks to enroll 2,000 people who are "close contacts of persons with confirmed or pending COVID-19 diagnoses," according to a statement announcing the study.

"We currently don’t know if hydroxychloroquine works, but we will learn in as short a timeframe as possible what the outcome is,” principal investigator Ruanne Barnabas said in the statement.

Participants in the eight-week study will be randomly assigned to take the antimalarial drug, which has been in use since the early 1950s, or a placebo over two weeks. Nasal swab samples will be collected and tested daily to confirm new COVID-19 infections across the two groups.

"Our goal is to stop transmission of COVID-19 in the community,” Barnabas added.

"Currently, there is no proven way to prevent COVID-19 after being exposed," added co-principal investigator and NYU assistant professor Anna Bershteyn. "If hydroxychloroquine provides protection, then it could be an essential tool for fighting this pandemic. If it doesn't, then people should avoid unnecessary risks from taking the drug.”

The study, which aims to finish in the early summer, received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust, and Mastercard.

For those interested in the study, its website can be found here.

The Food and Drug Administration recently announced an emergency use authorization to try several drugs, including hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, in an effort to combat COVID-19, despite a lack of clear evidence of their effectiveness.

A study published earlier this month by French researchers suggested that COVID-19 patients could be treated with antimalarial medication and antibiotics in the battle against the novel coronavirus.
New York State recently said it would start coronavirus drug trials in an attempt to control the pandemic's impact on the state, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who announced the state had acquired 70,000 doses of hydroxychloroquine, 10,000 doses of zithromax and 750,000 doses of chloroquine.

Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are antimalarial drugs. Zithromax, or azithromycin, is an antibiotic.

No drug should be taken without a doctor's prescription.

President Trump has spoken out about hydroxychloroquine in recent weeks.
As of Tuesday morning, at least 800,000 coronavirus cases have been diagnosed worldwide, 164,610 of which are in the U.S. The disease has accounted for at least 38,714 deaths around the world, including 3,170 people in the U.S.

Same for us up here on the mtn. Looks like we are in similar AO. Midatlantic, western md. Planted potatoes, got the seeds in under lights, fencing a new section of garden, cause if we don’t the deer will party. Mowing fields and weeding flower beds when the weather lets us. Got a couple trees laying on the edge of fields that need dealt with but DW doesn’t want me using the saws and such on my own right now. She says no unnecessary trips to the ER :-) I listen to her gut, always. Haven’t uncovered the pool yet, but will be getting to it. The apricots and peaches are all in bloom now which makes me smile every time I look at them. Peace

The council is still going at it. It is officially an "emergency" meeting......

Current thoughts by the council is that those who have a short term rental are allow to finish the term, but will not be allowed to renew rental and must leave.

They will keep open some motels / hotels for those who are providing "services" the county deems needed....

'Pandemic' scientist says his team has discovered potential cure for COVID-19

Dr. Jacob Glanville's team took antibodies used to neutralize SARS and used technology in their lab to adapt them to recognize COVID-19.

Author: Kelly Hessedal (kfmb)

Updated: 6:12 PM PDT March 30, 2020

CALIFORNIA, USA — A California scientist and his team say they have found a potential cure for COVID-19.

News 8 introduced you to Dr. Jacob Glanville of Distributed Bio a couple of weeks ago. He's one of the doctors featured in the Netflix show "Pandemic." His team in the Bay Area has been working around the clock trying to come up with a drug to treat COVID-19. Monday he announced he believes they've found one.

"We are happy to announce we have completed the engineering and we have some very potent antibodies that can be effective against the virus," said Dr. Glanville.

Below is News 8 reporter Kelly Hessedal's extended interview with Dr. Glanville and the answers he gave on the potential cure:

How did you come up with this potential cure?
We took a series of five antibodies from around 2002 that were able to neutralize SARS. We were able to use technology in our laboratories to evolve those antibodies against SARS to adapt them to recognize COVID-19.

We tried with five different antibodies because we weren’t sure which one would work the best. All five worked so we have a pretty powerful tool chest available to us right now to produce a final therapeutic.

Would the drug be a shot? Or a pill?
We think we will be able to deliver it as a shot. We’ve been deliberately trying to engineer extremely potent antibodies because if they’re potent you need less material and then you could give it as an injection.

Will you be doing the trials on sick patients in the United States?
This is a conversation we’re having with the United States government on exactly where the study is being done. We're also talking to the European Commission.
We want to make sure when we’re ready to release this we’re ready to release it to the entire world.

What is the next step?
We are sending [the antibodies] to the military for confirmation testing and to Charles River Laboratories for safety and tox characterization. We’ve partnered with two different companies that will help us scale up large batches of the antibody for production. We're in discussions to start humane phase one/two trials that would happen at the end of the summer.

Pending good results - [if] we see the drug is safe and helpful means we could start releasing it for compassionate use in September.

How excited were you when you guys realized all this hard work you put in may have really paid off?
I have a remarkable team. It blows me away the endless amount of time they were able to invest in this.

Boris Johnson's government is furious with China and believes it could have 40 times the number of coronavirus cases it says
Adam Payne

Mar 29, 2020
Xi Jinping Coronavirus China

  • UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government is said to be furious with China, accusing it of spreading disinformation and lying about the number of coronavirus cases it has.
  • "Some of the reporting from China was not clear about the scale, the nature, the infectiousness of this," Minister for the Cabinet Office Michael Gove told the BBC.
  • Scientists have reportedly told Johnson that China could have up to 40 times the number of cases it says.
  • Estimates from Radio Free Asia show that up to 42,000 bodies have been cremated in Wuhan since the crisis.
  • It could prompt the prime minister to abandon his deal with the Chinese telecoms giant Huawei.

"UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government is said to be furious over China's handling of the novel coronavirus, with one British official quoted on Sunday saying Beijing would face a "reckoning" once the COVID-19 crisis was over.

UK government officials are accusing China of spreading disinformation about the severity of the coronavirus outbreak in its borders, the Mail on Sunday reports.
The newspaper says scientists have told Johnson that China could have downplayed its number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus "by a factor of 15 to 40 times." China had reported 81,439 cases at the time of writing.

On Sunday, March 29, Minister for the Cabinet Office Michael Gove told the BBC he was skeptical of the China numbers. "It was the case … [that] the first case of coronavirus in China was established in December of last year, but it was also the case that some of the reporting from China was not clear about the scale, the nature, the infectiousness of this," he said.

The Chinese government has disclosed only 3,304 deaths from coronavirus. Yet funeral homes in Wuhan have disposed of an estimated 42,000 corpses, according to Radio Free Asia.

Officials also apparently believe China is trying to expand its economic power through offering help to other countries that are trying to combat the virus.
The newspaper quoted three UK officials, who all reported fury within Johnson's government.
"It is going to be back to the diplomatic drawing board after this," one said. "Rethink is an understatement."

The second unnamed official said "there has to be a reckoning when this is over," while the third said "the anger goes right to the top."
The newspaper added that Johnson's government was so angry with China's handling of the crisis that the prime minister could abandon his decision to let the Chinese telecoms company Huawei develop the UK's 5G wireless network.

Johnson angered his main ally, President Donald Trump, by giving Huawei a limited but significant role in improving the country's wireless infrastructure.
The Trump administration was angered by the decision, with the president himself reportedly expressing his disapproval before hanging up in an "apoplectic" phone call with Johnson last month.

The decision also riled swathes of lawmakers in Johnson's Conservative Party.
"We can't stand by and allow the Chinese state's desire for secrecy to ruin the world's economy and then come back like nothing has happened," one Cabinet minister quoted by the Mail on Sunday said.

"We're allowing companies like Huawei not just into our economy, but to be a crucial part of our infrastructure. This needs to be reviewed urgently, as does any strategically important infrastructure that relies on Chinese supply chains."

Johnson has written to every UK household urging people to continue following strict social-distancing rules.
In the letter, expected to reach Brits in the next few days, the prime minister, who this week tested positive for the coronavirus, said things would "get worse before they get better."
"But we are making the right preparations, and the more we all follow the rules, the fewer lives will be lost and the sooner life can return to normal," he said.

The prime minister last week introduced a national lockdown, telling people to leave their homes only for essential reasons and giving the UK police the power to fine those who do not comply."

Glad to see the Brits at least entertaining the possibility of changing their dialog with the chinese... That they've noticed that the chinese lie, is a step in the right direction.

If they REALLY get smart, they'll not have anything to do with china. Period.

Time will tell, and perhaps we'll see...

Abstract
Background: COVID-19 has been widely spreading. We aim to examine adaptive immune cells in non-severe patients with persistent SARS-CoV-2 shedding. Methods 37 non-severe patients with persistent SARS-CoV-2 presence transferred to Zhongnan hospital of Wuhan University were retrospectively recruited to PP (persistently positive) group, which was further allocated to PPP group (n=19) and PPN group (n=18), according to their testing results after 7 days (N=negative).

Epidemiological, demographic, clinical and laboratory data were collected and analyzed. Data from age- and sex-matched non-severe patients at disease onset (PA [positive on admission] patients, n=37), and lymphocyte subpopulation measurements from matched 54 healthy subjects were extracted for comparison. Results Compared with PA patients, PP patients had much improved laboratory findings, including WBCs, neutrophils, lymphocytes, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, albumin, AST, CRP, SAA, and IL-6. The absolute numbers of CD3+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, and NK cells were significantly higher in PP group than that in PA group, and were comparable to that in healthy controls. PPP subgroup had markedly reduced B cells and T cells compared to PPN group and healthy subjects.

Finally, paired results of these lymphocyte subpopulations from 10 PPN patients demonstrated that the number of T cells and B cells significantly increased when the SARS-CoV-2 tests turned negative. Conclusion Persistent SARS-CoV-2 presence in non-severe COVID-19 patients is associated with reduced numbers of adaptive immune cells. Monitoring lymphocyte subpopulations could be clinically meaningful in identifying fully recovered COVID-19 patients. Abbreviations COVID-19: Coronavirus disease 2019; SARS-CoV-2: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2; HC: Healthy controls.

"If you saw that meme going around about Joe Biden and his old friend Cornflake Jackson, well, Tom Woods Show guest Roger McCaffrey, whom I quoted to you last week, is my Cornflake Jackson. If he says something, you can take it to the bank, buckeroo.

Roger just sent this out to select friends:

"Friends, this is of immense importance and bears out what was already known. But the more reputable doctors who read and understand the results, the better for those of us who contract the virus.

"The medical profession resists all new drugs—until it stops resisting. The existence of envy among specialists is as prevalent as in the general population. If they don’t discover a drug, and don’t get onto it early, they tend to envy the professionals who do.

"At any rate: the drug combo is working in countless thousands of patients—rest assured Oz has plenty of contacts and the word is out. Just not quite accurately reported in the New York Times or on CNN and the big networks. What’s good for Trump, they hate. And yet as we know, the election will not turn on the success of this drug combination."

What's Roger talking about?

This:

Dr. Mehmet Oz spoke with the doctor in charge of a French study featuring 80 patients suffering from COVID-19.

The patients were given a combination of the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin. According to Dr. Didier Raoult, 65 of the 80 were back home within five days.

One patient ("an 86-year-old man who was very ill when he came," according to Dr. Oz) died during the trial.

No complications were detected.

Dr. Raoult describes himself as "very optimistic" about his findings.

Dr. Oz summarizes the results:

"At five days, these patients were basically not infectious, he argues, and they could be transferred to the ward.... On average, the mortality rate for [coronavirus] patients in France coming to the hospital was about 4%. In his case, in 80 patients, one patient died. … [Raoult] said that's not something that you can hang your hat on, but it's certainly not trending worse and it seems to be meaningfully better."

So if you wanted some good news, there's some."

Yeah, I think we posted a few days back that even NY is now using the combo, and since then it's been given "emergency authorization" to be proscribed- though I don't see why, other than politics- there was ever a thought that iit could NOT be used. Anyways:

We recorded this yesterday, n someone was hopeful that dr. Zelenko would record his data points:
...looks like that isn't a concern :D... more applause...

Yes, I think they do. That's why I highlighted the wiggle language. I thought it was important to post not because I believe it (I've been a proponent of this being a bio-weapon from the beginning) but because it's getting a lot of attention and I thought it newsworthy.

I think we are attributing waaay too much preplanned sneakiness to the Chinese. I am pretty sure they would never release a virus bio-weapon on their own ground then procede to nuke their own economy. My guess is the Murphy factor is at play here. Some lower level flunky was told to dispose of some dead specimens and being the devious type he decided to make a few bucks selling them at the wet market instead. Now that does not mean that they were not developing new strains and testing them on these "Specimens" on the way to building a better bio-weapon. I just think that their version of a "Secure" Lab has more holes in it than a screen door on a submarine.

Their stated conclusion was: Conclusion Persistent SARS-CoV-2 presence in non-severe COVID-19 patients is associated with reduced numbers of adaptive immune cells. I took it to mean they are going to look at these types of white blood cells #s and if the #s are normal it can be a clinical way to assess recovery and ascertain that the patient is no longer shedding the virus.

That's been my view all along. There are way too many who believe in incredibly complex conspiracy theories, when incompetence has such great explanatory value.

Let's Go Brandon!
Just received this in a text from my sister.

I know that it is bad everywhere right now, much worse in the damocrap areas
than other areas, and it would seem just deserts are here.

However, we must remember the brave trees, that gave up their lives for us,
everything that makes our lives more livable, they helped to provide for us.

This image was attached to her text.

Please be safe everyone.

Regards to all.
