This is my pessimistic take, self isolation will only delay the inevitable infection of a certain percentage of the population, isolation will not prevent the population eventually being infected by the virus. Isolation cannot continue indefinitely without total disruption of the economy, and the Government cannot provide payments or loans to businesses etc for an indefinite period, however most socialists would maintain that it could and I suspect this will surface in the weeks to come.

Please comment and prove me wrong or is there an alternative solution.
I am high-risk (due to age/health conditions) and I know eventually I will get the virus. I am trying to delay it as much as possible in the hope that by the time I get it, they will have a drug protocol in place (assuming it will be malaria drug) and that they will have figured out a way to ramp up production/distribution of the drug to everyone who needs it.

First does anyone else feel like taking a 2 day nap and hope they wake up and this is all over???

So now comes the hard part (for most Americans) the waiting game. We want, no we demand instant service, instant delivery, instant entertainment, and an instant fix.

I got a tweet from Biology and Biology told me it really just doesn’t care what we want.

Can you imagine the unmitigated gall of Biology to interrupt our cushy western existence with something as mundane as a virus. It isn’t even defined as living cause it can’t reproduce. Has to hijack a live cell see there, the virus is a freaking cellular level terrorist. No wonder we are at war.

But most of us aren’t on the frontlines. The researchers looking for workable vaccine or medicines to treat, the healthcare workers all (Dr’s, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists etc...). We are the home front but we face the enemy every time we leave home. Hopefully the reason is not for some stupid crap, but there are real reasons.

We’ll when you go gear up, no matter that people look at you funny. Hell people were looking at me funny before I went out with mask and gloves (thats a whole other story).

So <blank> them, and <blankBiology you ain’t getting us. We are smarter than you and we can reproduce without hijacking well most of us anyway. I can watch Die Hard all freakin month, as long as the beer and chips hold out.

2-3 weeks ain’t nothing for another bundles of years!

Peace out people, we got this

The majority of American People today---->

Ford will produce 50,000 ventilators over the next 100 days at a plant in Michigan, in the USA, the company has said.

Working in cooperation with General Electric’s healthcare unit, another 30,000 units can then be made per month, the Ford Motor Company says. The firm adds that the simplified ventilator design has been cleared by the US’s Food and Drug Administration, can meet the needs of most Covid-19 patients and relies on air pressure without the need for electricity.

.

And unlike GM (Government Motors), they didn't have to be threatened with trump using the full force of the DPA to get them started.

Hum...

Isn't that the same GM that back in February modified it's China based production and ramped up the manufacture of the machines required to produce N95 masks for China????

... why yes, yes it was

Great.....that will help keep the infection rate manageable. Even at this late date with New York getting pounded all these idiots ignoring the stay at home directives and all packed together watching and not a face mask or pair of gloves in sight. You can't fix stupid....you can only bury it.

LOVE THIS!! At President Trump's Coronavirus presser today, spoken at the podium by Mike Lindell, of My Pillow:

"God gave us grace on November 8, 2016 to change the course we were on. God had been taken out of our schools and lives, a nation had turned its back on God. And I encourage you to use this time at home to get back in the Word, read our Bibles, and spend time with our families. Our president gave us hope, where just a few short months ago we had the best economy, the lowest unemployment, wages going up, it was amazing. With our great President, Vice President, this administration, and all the great people of this country praying daily, we will get through this and get back to a place that's stronger and safer than ever."

Tennessee 'patient zero' shares COVID-19 experience to bring hope 'in time of panic and unrest'
Kerri Bartlett, Nashville TennesseanPublished 10:08 a.m. CT March 16, 2020 | Updated 1:27 p.m. CT March 16, 2020

Franklin resident Chris Baumgartner, 44, self-proclaimed "patient zero," spoke out on Facebook about his experiences as the first confirmed case with the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, in Tennessee.

For those of you who don’t know, I was patient zero in Tennessee. That’s right, I’m the 44 year-old dad in Williamson County, who has a son at BGA, works at Biogen,
and has 2 family “contacts” living in my household... who really needs HIPAA anyway, right?

After getting many inquiries about his experience with COVID-19, he described his experience, emphasizing that his symptoms are "mild" and that he is recovering.

An employee at Biogen neuroscience company, Baumgartner tested positive for COVID-19 after traveling to Boston for a conference.

A lot more here:

Dr. Deborah Birx Predicts Up To 200,000 Deaths ‘If We Do Things Almost Perfectly’ | TODAY
•Mar 30, 2020

TODAY

Joining TODAY from Washington, the response coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force, Dr. Deborah Birx, says, “We’re very worried about every city in the United States” and that “in some metro areas we were late in getting people to follow the 15-day guidelines.” She predicts that “if we do things together well, almost perfectly, we could get in the range of 100,000 to 200,000 fatalities,” but adds, “we’re not sure all of America is responding in a uniform way.”

Wow. China had only 3500 deaths . . . they must have done everything super duper perfectly
factor of 10X is 35000 which would still be super perfectly.
350,000 would mean they did thing absolutely perfect;y because they have 5 times the population
three million five hundred thousand would still be in the realm of having done things perfectly.
21 million would probably be closer to the truth

Trump and Fauci discuss likelihood of second outbreak in the fall

From CNN's Sarah Westwood

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told reporters on Monday that it is likely there will be another coronavirus outbreak in the fall.

“In fact, I would anticipate that that would actually happen,” said Fauci, who is a key member of the White House's coronavirus task force.

President Trump said he hopes "it doesn't happen" when asked about a second outbreak.

Trump said the administration was prepared in the event the virus returns after a period of fading over the summer, after social distancing measures.

Fauci echoed that sentiment, saying if the virus returns “in the fall, it would be a totally different ball game.”

He said the differences would include greater testing ability at the beginning of the outbreak as well as better contact tracing when individuals fall ill.

Fauci said the administration’s abilities would be “orders of magnitude better.”

“We have a vaccine that’s on track” for development on an accelerated timeline, Fauci noted.

I know that guy means well. He wants to dampen some of the fear. But honestly, I don't like seeing interviews like this right now when we have hordes of people with the "this won't affect me and I wanna go out and party" mind set. I am afraid this will just cement into their minds that this virus is not a problem and even if they catch it, it will be mild so why isolate?

Perhaps it's not productive to be so critical, but, in my view, the US efforts look incredibly weak and laggardly next to theirs (South Korea), and we had much more time to figure this out. They are, of course, one of the few great exceptions compared to most other nations.

And, why has the CDC been so doltish and slow? You just know they must have had intelligence on the ground and known what was happening in China back in December. And, they have incredible expertise -- They know how these things work.

Why?

Cheers to those who did it right.

Define 'accurate'.

Reporting systems/Dashboards are highly dependent on the data flow feeding the 'engine'. Sometimes (like nearly always) that data can lag. Sometimes the definition of what constitutes a case changes. In this case, a perfect example is how far behind the number of 'acknowledged' cases was, due to the fact that we weren't looking for cases (we weren't testing, for reasons beaten to death already). Now that we're testing, the numbers are skyrocketing. (Once we began looking, we began finding.) Some would say that we still aren't testing enough.

Also, there's undoubtedly a focus on providing care to the patients, and to a degree reporting is taking a back seat.

Not every thing is a conspiracy.

I know many are wound up tight trying to figure everything to 3 decimal places, but that is not possible, not even in hindsight.

I think the best policy is to take the info at the Arcgis dashboard as an indication of the direction and velocity of the spread/containment of this virus, not a perfectly accurate representation of exactly where we are in the nation.
I know the UK data will change. They were only reporting data from hospitals. Now they will include any death cert. with COVID 19 mentioned

New Orleans has more than 1,400 cases of coronavirus
From CNN's Stephanie Gallman

There are 1,480 cases of coronavirus in New Orleans, the city’s Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced during a radio town hall.
At least 86 people in the New Orleans have died from the illness, Cantrell added.

.And BOTH the mayor of New orleans and the governor of looooooville are whining they didn't shut down cuz Trump didn't tell them to do so. The result being both the mayor and governor LIKELY MURDERED SOME OF THEIR DRUNKEN SUBJECTS. The total failure of the corrupt democrat ruling class and the bodies are heading for the swamps and the gators.:dstrs:

I didn't like that one at all, which is why I only posted a few bits. I just thought the Tennessee folks might want to know where their first case came from.

Fighting The Coronavirus: Good Learnings From Germany

READ our new report asking "What will happen if you die of the coronavirus?": https://www.peakprosperity.com/if-you...

As we reported yesterday, with the world sharing its data, we are starting to get a better handle on understanding the coronavirus. This real-time exchange of data and insights going on across the globe right now is invaluable to global efforts to fight the spread of covid-19 more effectively.

Germany has recently contributed two important pieces to the puzzle. First, it has been conducting *many* more tests per capita than other countries (500,000/week). Due to this, they have a better picture of the true # of infected people.

Their recent data suggests that the real Case Fatality Rate (CFR) for covid-19 is closer to 0.4% -- substantially lower than the rates calculated for most other countries, who don't test as aggressively.

A 0.4% CFR is still concerning, but is substantially better than the previous 2-3% estimates from just a few weeks back.

Second, because it tests so many people, Germany is swiftly building a database of people who recover and therefore have anti-bodies against the virus. It plans to fast-track these folks' return to work, so that they can get the economy recovering faster without fear of infecting others.

In this way, valuable insights lead to more effective policies -- just like the Czech Republic has done with the #Masks4All movement. As we get smarter, we get stronger.

This, folks, is how we'll beat covid-19.

The CDC must have been aware that Trump had cut their budget for 2021. That would have been a hint that he did not think much of your unit. And he has a history; you punch him and he punches back twice as hard.

So after Trump has said that the Chinese Plague ain't much shucks, you are going to do what? Punch him for an error?

They did exactly what could have been predicted: Nothing.

Ragnarok, Really sorry to hear this period as the HR rep lies to you about this directly as an employee of the company to an employee and company, isn't there some sort of a law against that?

I don't think so... I had mentioned to a co-worker that I thought it sucked that we were being given two options. Use up all our vacation time or go to an unsafe work environment. Talked a little about taking this to legal but he thinks it would be bad for continued employment at this time. Can't say I disagree. I am deferring to his view for the moment...
