Exactly. I can them, because its so much more convenient. But they definitely freeze well, as long as you package them well. They can absorb some funky odors or freezer burn if not wrapped adequately.Yes, the freezer is where I store almonds, walnuts and peanuts. They have held up very well...using some from 2006 to 2008 with no problems.
I guess it just depends on how much room you have in freezer vs. dry canning/vacuum packing.

I oven can nuts. I spread them on a cookie sheet, and heat thoroughly in a 300 degree oven for 20-30 minutes. You don't want to brown them, just heat them.
Quickly dump into sanitized canning jars, and secure lids. I do one jar at a time, leaving the nuts in the oven until I pack them.
The jars will seal as they cool, and the nuts store perfectly for many years. When we moved, we found some pecans from 2005. I paid $3.53 a pound! We opened a jar- they were perfect.
