Neither have I, nor claymores, nor concentina wire, refills for my RPG, No 88 rounds for my Tiger. And get this, NO bouncing bettys, anywhere !! And no belts of 8mm for my mg42. Man, what are we to do ???
This is getting bad !!!

It’s as though they want us to resort to hand-to-hand.......and that likely with the stipulations that we wear masks and social distance.

Some revolution.

Day by day
I can’t find general multi-purpose spray cleaners, such as Formula 409. I have been able to substitute with the brand Mrs. Meyers.

We've been using Windex for decades as a sub for 409. We dilute it about 40% or so. We have white formica counter tops and have never had any problem with the blue color of Windex.

SuzieQ, I think people use rubbing alcohol with aloe Vera gel to make hand sanitizer. I couldn’t find any when I started looking a few months ago. Still haven’t seen aloe Vera gel.

SPRAY YOUR HANDS WITH 70% ALCOHOL....AIR DRY.......
THATS 140 PROOF OR 150 PROOF
USE ANY HAND LOTION SEVERAL TIMES A DAY TO KEEP YOUR SKIN FROM DRYING OUT

BUT REALLY, ALCOHOL IS A POISON THAT YOU ABSORB THROUGH YOUR SKIN,..IT IS VERY HARD ON YOUR SKIN...
OLD FOLKS SKIN IS VERY THIN........ ........SO IT IS VERY MORE BAD FOR OLD PEOPLE,,,VERY

ALL THE TIME YOU CAN , YOU SHOULD WASH YOUR HANDS

I found Jars and Lids at Runnings

Walmart in our area has some weird shortages:
Fishing tackle and gear is almost totally gone - been like that since March
Sewing supplies are low stock now
clothing brands offered are different.
And the clothing sizes are strange, not the sizes most often purchased....

On the shortage of lumber, especially treated lumber, do any insiders know why these are in short supply?

I do know here locally they are throwing up new houses as fast as possible and maybe all of our sales and marketing people ‘working from home’ are all building decks and fences on company time but it seems there is something else.
I read an article that said the hold up was at the plants where treated lumber is processed. One person on a processing line tests positive for Covid and everyone on that line is quarantined for 14 days. They have worker shortages.

Red Label is 90% which is ineffective against COVID.

You need a 66-80% mixture ( I believe ... Check with Summerthyme ) to be effective but I know the 90% is too potent. You need a certain amount of water to break the outer "shell" of the virus and then the alcohol goes in to kill the virus...

that does not make any sense. even if some strange twist of physics and biochemistry made that true, all you have to do is add water to the 90%

Thanks for the heads up but I'm aware of that...there is a formula on here from very early in the original CV thread that tells exactly how to dilute the red to get it down to 70%. The wipies already have enough liquid in them to achieve that dilution. I need it for an entirely different application in my business and it has to be the 90%. 70% is too wet...the 90% evaporates much faster.

I've done that for years but I'v never diluted it. I even used it for a hand sanitizer one day when I got away from home without gloves or wipies...may not have worked but it made me feel better. Bar Keepers Friend and Windex are the only commercial cleaners I ever use.

Canning Jars and Lids
Ammo / Reloading Primers

If you run into something that is an essential prep but can't be found list it here. If you know where some can be found reply to the poster that listed it.

It is interesting how fast the shelves are drying up on the things we have all prepped for years.

As one poster was saying Fishing tackle is hard to find where they live, should easy enough to come by and you can order the basics on the internet and have it shipped to you.

Ammo and reloading supplies I can see drying up so go easy on the target practice and if you rely on a scope get some proper sighting in targets with the one inch grids so you can dial it in with two or three shots.

Canning jar lids well I'm not sure as I have all I need but they should be able to make these by the millions really fast.
There is the Tattler lids that are reusable some really like them some not so much but better than none.

Cooking: Should things get really bad and you can setup a very simple shelter (a roof) to do outdoor cooking with a small fire in any weather and use the pots and pans you have just be careful not the burn off the handles. Now if you just happen to have a fireplace in your home great, just need to make a fire in one corner and use the embers to cook with and you may want a few bricks to work as stands for your pots.

Tip: Try to get at lest one cast Iron Dutch Oven for your self Walmart has them in the camping department and the 12" inch is the basic standard so don't worry about looking bigger than you think you need.
We have a thread here on TB2K dedicated to Dutch Oven Cooking just use the search engine and enter "The Dutch Oven Thread" and that should take you right to it.

I make my own Windex by mixing ammonia and water in a spray bottle. Cost a lot less, and works great on glass. I have a print out of normal everyday household products that can be made at home for pennies compared to buying commercial products. The basic ingredients for homemade products include ammonia, baking soda, vinegar, laundry soap, borax, etc. I haven't noticed any of these items in short supply, yet.

I like to wear Crocs in the garden because you can hose them off. Thought it would be a good idea to get a back-up pair. Supplies are very limited. FWIW, they come out of Brazil, which is still working through COVID problems.

Really not having any problem finding anything. But then, I am not a brand person, nobody I feed is a picky eater, have always been good at substitution, and I know the difference between "wants" and "needs".

Canning jars/lids are everywhere, and have been on special often lately in weekly ads. Menards, Fleet Farm, L&M, the grocery store....plenty around. This is a big home canning area, and the local stores know to order the stock.

Powdered milk? Use canned. Doesn't seem to be any shortage of it. Also, if for some reason you are big users of powdered, why didn't you order LTS ahead? It keeps in #10 cans for many years.

Rubbing alcohol? Use cheap vodka.

Dumbbells, weights, exercise benches....anything you could use for a home gym for resistance exercise...........when the gyms closed all the stuff got bought out and no inventory is to be found anywhere.......fortunately I got a group of dumbbells and resistance bands to work everything I need.........hell with no real leg lifting exercises I've reverted to loading up a backpack with dumbbells to do sprint walking up steep hills to try to keep the muscles in my quads/gluts intact............

There are so many people exercising now that all those weights and resistance equipment just vanished out of stores when the word when out back in March that gyms were closing........

Word here in NC is they might open back up in Sept which has us addicted lifters salivating at the chance to get some proper equipment back in use again................but for now the home workouts are a pretty good substitute and convenient as hell.

Trying to hang out with the cool kids.
It may take some hunting around, but I bet you can find someone you can buy eggs from directly. They will probably cost more, but they're fresher and much better quality eggs. My farm friends get $5 a dozen.
Powdered eggs may be ok for baking, but I doubt I could eat them alone even if I was starving. I don't eat grocery store eggs either. When my hens stop laying, I quit eating eggs.
I would love to purchase local eggs, but my area isn't zoned for backyard chickens. Thank you for the suggestion.

Powdered milk anywhere. There are, however, plenty of Father's Day cards and suntan lotion at any drug store in a Democrat-controlled city.

I hadn't been able to get any Nido in about 5 years. Walmart said they had it, but wouldn't let me order it online. Suddenly it's back in the stores in every variety you can imagine.
I don't know if you have Food Lion where you live, but ours have their store brand powdered milk. You have to hunt for it, but they do have some.

I'm finding out it might be just a location thing as where we were (Oregon) we couldn't find canned beef or pork anywhere, just arrived in (Nevada) and so far everything seems abundant...

A LOT of the baking items are getting short supplied, especially bread machine yeast (I'm blaming Dennis on this one). And I have met a BUNCH of people in the stores looking for "staples" like bread machine ingredients. One lady was frantically searching on her phone to see if "regular" yeast would work in a bread machine the same way. She found a few different sites with differing opinions but decided to buy a handful of packets anyway. I asked her why she was so worried about it and she mentioned about the riots spreading and street wars breaking out. I asked her if she had a generator, and what she planned to do with her bread machine if the power went out for a long period of time. Her face went white. I told her that it was possible to mix by hand and then use her propane grill to do the baking if she was careful in setting the temp right (as in low) and keeping the lid closed. I then told her that she should really start reading up on the internet on how to do things with no power or no water service while she still had internet...

My local ALDI has baking yeast in both packets and small jars. Bought some for the pantry.

I just got Nido from Walmart online in my delivery.

I don't "get" Walmart at all. One of my friends out west orders flour and sugar all the time and has it delivered. Every time I put it in my order, the system takes it off and tells me that I have to pick that up in the store. And it insists that I shop at a store that I don't even go to (too far away). Nido just says "not available", even though the website states they have it.

Wow, usually they have it under the description what can be ordered and delivered and what can't. I have on the website my store of preference. And I live in a pretty remote area, getting deliveries here can be problematic. But I've been able to get nearly everything I need with three different sites, Walmart, Amazon and Boxed. Most with free delivery.
