Neither here nor there.
I haven't read through all seven pages, so this may be redundant. Was out in the nearest city, stopped at WM, and Tractor Supply Company. WalMart had empty shelves and spaces everywhere. I was looking for some specific camping supplies - not much there at all! Women's clothing was a complete bust too - they are stocked, but the items are junky. I used to get basics like tank tops and socks there...no more.

In previous years, this TSC had huge racks of canvas Carhart (sp?) type clothing. They were sparse today too - an open floor, and not much but button-down shirts. We are going into fall, and there was hardly anything. What they had for trousers and overalls was all in larger sizes (found two single exceptions - and, I'm not exceptionally small). Fitting room was locked, so had to go find a sales associate. Then, they tell me that anything I try on has to be returned to the front desk so they can quarantine it!

That is no way to do business.

Most of their products come from China, Viet Nam, Thailand, and India... not surprised about the shortages.

Bedding, pillows, and such -- go in and out. Target is my go-to, followed by Macy's or Bed, Bath, and Beyond, depending on the quality I need. Target has a good stock of back-to-college bedding right now, and if I look, I can find higher thread count sheets mixed in with the really thin ones. Target also carries the goose down alternative products, much cheaper than BB&B -- Walmart doesn't carry those at all.

I no longer buy bedding online. I want to see and feel it. There are a lot of "factory seconds" that are being passed off for full price. If you must buy sight unseen, make sure the store has a good return policy.

Yes, cotton is in short supply and prices are through the roof. That said, I will add another set of sheets to the closet when I find what I want.

Would be interested to know the weeks/months for the time between corporate orders placed, and when the merch. is on the store shelves ready for a sale. Also, Was it mostly due to Covid lock-downs in Asia that disrupted the factories, or crappy financials in the US that those factories are no longer willing to risk?

Honestly, the scene in both stores was disturbing. Made me wonder what retail will look like near Christmas.

I've read here and heard from others offline that they have either completed or are doing their Christmas shopping now.

I (and others) think a lot of the inventory will be thin, if it is available at all.

This is what I'm seeing on facebook, most of my friends finished their holiday shopping, with the exception of food, last month especially those with kids they took advantage of the tax free weekend to buy clothes for their kiddos.

I have been trying to get Uncle Mike's duty belt, along with their inner belt, for my size 0, and size 2 Uncle Mike's holsters and speed loaders. Tacticalgear.com and UncleMikes's.com are BOTH out of stock in several sizes.

Ordered some from Penney's back in early August and they are really nice! And got them at a steep discount for using my Penney's card.

Roving mobs will be doing beatdowns on random shoppers by then. Last Christmas, such as it was, will be the last "normal" Christmas many of us ever celebrate I think.
I almost went to a live Mannheim Steamroller music concert here in Portland on December 6th, 2019. I doubt I will go to one in the next 10 years or so. The new normal is there is no more normal. For example, how many of yhe DOZENS of Christmas type live music concerts will be held, with thousands attending will be held between Thanksgiving and Christmas? Nutcracker ballet in person? I think not.

I asked the very same q in the food shortage thread. It was answered on another thread: the buyers can't get insurance on their credit, so the producers aren't shipping products until they know they can be paid for it. This is mostly affecting the big stores that buy on significant credit. And not so much the mom and pops that pay COD or within 30 days.

I can't speaker for smaller retail chains/stores but for the big box companies items which are on promotion for black friday 2020 had their contracts and orders placed with the manufactures around january thru april of this year. Production starts around then and it gets loaded into shipping containers about july and august. Starts arriving in the states around october.

Again this is promotional stuff and not just seasonal stuff like holiday lights and such which might be on sale but nobody really cares what it is they are buying. Theses type of items have faster production and shipping times which is why they start appearing in the stores sometimes around now thru early oct.

One thing which always interested me which I never heard about was the contracts for poinsettias and even x-mas trees. Everybody has $1 poinsettias for BF special and usually each store has several thousand in stock to sell that day.

Changing subject -------

HD has freezers back in stock on their website. Some are still sold out but a lot are now available for delivery this or next week depending on model and where you live. I looked as I was thinking of picking up another before the election

Huge 95 gallon clear plastic liners! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AVIWUAS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I always keep those big 33 gallon construction work garbage bags around, ever since we had some stuff done to the house years ago and found them very handy for other things.

So last year, I got on Amazon and accidentally ordered these huge 95-96 gallon clear garbage can liners.

Yes, I have so many disruptions at my house, that it's a wonder I can even post here.

But anyway, I saw that I accidentally bought these Jumbo bags, strong plastic and they have come in quite handy for so many things!

You can take these super light yet strong bags camping or hiking, so for an emergency, you can either make a huge poncho or even a tent, by cutting down the seams.

Line the inside of your cargo area of your car so you can transport plants.

I the springtime when I have my tomatoes planted and my husband has already placed the stakes around the plants, I will put these bags over the plant, to make a little greenhouse and to keep any hail or heavy rain off the plants.

You can also cut along the seams to make small 'cloches' to protect your plants for an early frost.

This last winter, we got a lot of snow and to keep my Little Gem magnolia safe from the heavy snow, (the wet snow came on so quickly that I lost a branch off this tiny tree), I surrounded the tree with large stakes and then places one of these huge clear bags over the tree, with the stakes on the inside, and it kept the snow off of it, and saved my tree.

You can use it to line your big garbage tote, as advertised in the link above.

Anyway, I absolutely Love this huge bag and it's very inexpensive and could end up a lifesaver if you are out lost in the forest while hiking, which happens All The Time out here in the Cascade Mt. range. We get all these city folk coming up to North Bend, Wa. and Snoqualmie Pass and they are so totally clueless, that there is always someone missing. V

Went to get a new mattress....(Local church looking for 10 twins for retreat center holding burn refugees). twins are all backordered at 4 different dealers... The cotton material for covering the springs are all shifted to make masks. Due to the homes lost in the fires all left over inventory of inexpensive mattresses in full and queen is pretty wiped out. Then went looking for tents that have been out of stocking since June at Walmart. Now sleeping bags are almost wiped out also and due to cotton shortage the stores don't know when they will get replenished
