I love Planes,Trains and Automobiles, but I can’t watch it these days. John Candy’s character “Del” is too much like me. I’ll just sit there in deep depression if I tried to watch it.

Thought of a few more to add to my original list.

Tombstone
Fifth Element
Second Hand Lions
Reign of Fire

The Ghost and the Darkness (based on the true story about man eating lions of Tsavo, Africa. I don't know why it didn't get more recognition when it came out. Starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas.)

A Knight's Tale
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile

I generally dislike sci-fi but absolutely loved Enemy Mine. It's 1980's with Dennis Quaid and Lou Gossett Jr.

Are you sure about that?
So I’m curious. If you’re in a down mood (or just feeling “I can’t put my finger on it, but I’m not feeling good/calm/happy”, what is/are your go-to films? Not necessarily to cheer you up (even though the thread title leads one to think that’s the condition I’m looking for), but to, generally speaking, make you feel better when you’re “off” emotionally? I have a few.

The Ten Commandments (usually just a part of the film rather than the whole thing)

Close Encounters

Original Star Wars trilogy

First 4 Harry Potter films

Under Siege

The Fifth Element

Any of the Pirates of the Caribbean films

Demolition Man

Murder on the Orient Express (Albert Finney version)

Forbidden Planet

Now, some of these qualify as favorites as well, but some not. But all are good for when I need to “forget my cares”.

Okay, your turn.
The Original "The Thing". I love the Carpenter version from 1982, but there's something calming to me about the black and white presentation. The banter between the characters is fun, too.
