Hope you all are doing well today; I just got home from work and am headed for bed in a few minutes - it was one of 'those' nights...:gaah:

My prep this morning to start the week off right was to dig around in the magazine/catalog basket to find last years seed/garden catalog and stuff it in my work bag to take with me when I go back in this evening. I'm hoping that they don't have any trouble finding stock. I have to go back in to work both tonight and Monday night, so not sure what other prepping I will do today - if any.

You folks all take care out there - stay safe!!

Since I had little to no activity for about a month, moving cases of food yesterday used muscles I haven't used lately. The back of my legs are feeling it this morning, so I need to do more today to work it out.

My bad, I had blocked the back door with cases of food, but now I can actually about half of the door and what's still there could easily be shoved out of the way in an emergency. The issue is where to put the stuff that's still in front of the door. I want to get started carrying cases of food to our enclosed trailer, but that's not whats still in front of the door. That's cases of canning jars with dehydrated food. Oh well, I'll figure it out.

I'm trying to get things ready for this week.

This morning, I mailed the remainder of the late November / December birthday cards (for seniors who dislike eCards). I also mailed several Christmas cards to older folks in out-of-the-way places. I'll finish the remainder of the Christmas cards this week, maybe mail those from inside the post office on Thanksgiving.

I planned the menus and checked the pantry. I'm missing several items, which I'll go get later. I'm trying to make today my last trip to a grocery store.

Laundry is going. House is somewhat clean. I hope to work in a deep-cleaning of the kitchen and living room, plus hang up the snowflake light (gift) in the front window, on a suction cup.

The outside work is mostly finished. I've been working on the leaves as the weather permits: I chop those with the lawnmower, but it's getting too cold for the mower to start. I have to leave it in the sun for several hours. Fortunately, it's sunny today. (-:

Have a great week, all!

It's not really a prepping item, but I just ordered the TV series "Jericho". We have watched the "Revolution" series twice, already, and someone told us "Jericho" was much better. Not much on regular TV these days fit to watch. We read more than we watch TV, but we haven't been able to get to the book store, lately, and we're all out of books to read. We have a large library of books (as a prep), but we've read them all more than once, already.

Not much going on this week, other than regular household chores, and getting ready for Thanksgiving. I won't start cooking, until the night before. I guess I need to clean out the fridge so, I will have room to put those things I make ahead. Sometimes, I need 2 fridges!

Blessings to all for a great week!

Dh & I had some stomach virus that pretty much knocked both of us flat. Luckily, it didn't hit us both at the same time. he was pretty much over his before I got it. I was so nauseated that I couldn't stand up. We have livestock that have to be cared for and puppy still has to be walked every 2 hours. Dh took one of my night time puppy tours and nearly lost the dog... All better today, thank goodness.
I was going to go and do some "fun stuff" yesterday but as sick as I got, it's a good thing I stayed home.
I've got a WM pick up tomorrow, mainly for all the things that Aldi was out of last week. WM still says they have no grapefruit juice. I may stop at the small local store and see if they have any before dh runs completely out. He told me that I had stocked too far ahead of him (I only had 2 1/2 mos worth) so I stopped buying it for a month and then I couldn't get anymore. He drinks a lot of the nasty stuff.
Sherree, I thought that Jericho was much better than Revolution. I actually got bored with Revolution and stopped watching it. The one I really liked was when the aliens invaded (skitters? I think they called them --- they looked like spiders) I can't remember what the name of it was though. I'll see if I can find it later. Got to get chores done before dark.

Instead of going to walmart tomorrow when we do the commodities pickup we went today. One of the tires on my van was shredded, no clue how that happened, so DH took it off and paid for a new one for me, my Christmas present, which suits me just fine.

I had a short list and only added a few things, but I got so tired I had to go to the pharmacy to sit down and rest. My total was $40, which suited me just fine, we didn't need much and I wanted to replace what we had used.

I was so tired that I felt like I just about had to crawl in to the house when we got home. I've definitely got a ways to go.

Sherree, the name of the series where the aliens invade is "Falling Skies". The first season is much better than the second. I liked it because unlikely people banded together and became best friends. A cop and a gang member who had been at war with each other before the aliens came.
Home Fires was on BBC a couple years ago, it was about how the women of the village coped with WWII.
Another one I liked was "A Place to Call Home" which was set in Australia after WWII. the story was sometimes a little lacking, but the cinematography was awesome.
I agree with you that there is nothing on tv to watch anymore.

Oh yeah. We liked, "Falling Skies"! I've heard of the other two, but have never watched them.

I LOVED Home Fires and hated that it was canceled after only 2 short seasons. The writer of the series wrote 4 books to kind of bring closure to the series especially after the 2nd season cliffhanger, I bought the e-books. I tend to watch more British shows than American and I also am more of a reader.

I remembered to have DH take a turkey out of the freezer today, should have already done that, it may have to spend some time in cold water to help it thaw. Menu has been made out and who’s doing what. I believe we have everything in that will be needed for Thanksgiving.

I‘m not sure what I’ll manage to do prep wise this week. Like Judy, I need to do some organizing and get some things put away. It’s going to be another hectic week and I’m still really tired from last week. My kitchen needs a good cleaning and a counter top clear off, there are still grocery items that need to be put away.

At least one of our 5 pullets have started laying, YAY for fresh eggs! We’ve still been getting an egg most days from our 1 hen that survived whatever attacked the flock back in early summer, but it will be nice not to have to use store bought.

I managed to bring the few bags of food in the house. I can get things done I just have to rest a lot. Maybe God telling me to pace myself won't hurt to do that.

I bought a package of what looks like pretzel buns on sale. I put them in the freezer. They will slice in half nicely to use for a sandwich. Maybe DH will like them. I like pretzel buns myself. That's what mickyd's uses for their chrispy chicken sandwich. I like the sandwich but always seem disappointed in it. I ask them to leave the pickles off and they never do. DH loves his $ for 4, which I do too but too many calories and carbs. I'm trying to keep the weight off that I lost while I was sick.

I appreciate being able to share my covid saga on here. And i appreciate all the prayers said for us and kind words that have been said.

Oh so sorry to hear about your chicken loss. Last Sunday night a fox got into our pen and killed 9 chickens...didn't eat them just killed them. Hubby and I saw the fox but were unable to exterminate him/her. After daylight we were able to find where he burrowed under the fence. Found his fur on the fence. Were able to fix it and we started locking them down every night which is a pain but worth it. The other 30 chickens were traumatized and have barely laid since "the nite"! Seems that the egg production is picking up today!

I too spent the last week tidying up and for me purging some clothes etc. Turkey is thawing. I am a bit uneasy and always want to do one more walk thru to make sure we have the bases covered. Anyone else feel that way? Still not sure that I have the needed fat and protein covered. Trusting that God will nudge us if there is anything else we need to do. Just can't get in that place of peace which is very unusual for me.

philkar- So sorry about your chickens too. We have an automatic door with timer but sometimes things don’t go right. Yes, I feel very uneasy too.

Judy- Some of us have to work a little less than we want and rest a little more often. It’s so frustrating at times, but at least we’re making progress. So glad you’re feeling better.

I got a little second wind and moved more food around, getting closer to the back door.

I forgot to mention earlier about the shortages at my walmart. There were no pie shells, but the lady at self check out said she saw a lot go through the lines, so they were just out by the time we got there.

There were a lot of Honeysuckle turkeys at .87 a pound. Milk was almost not there. No walmart butter, I'm thinking that's because of Thanksgiving, but I could be wrong.

Plenty of paper products, except no walmart paper plates. We don't need any and I don't buy the Dixie brand, plenty of that.

Cold cuts looked pitiful, but that's been the case for several months. Bread looked picked over. Not much in the english muffin area, but it was late in the day.

They actually had cabbage, which they had not had any at all for a couple of months.

All in all the store looked okay. Its the weekend before a major American holiday. We have much to be thankful for.

At the present time, we're on satellite, and have limited downloading capabilities. In a couple of months that will change, hopefully, to fiber optics. The lines have been run, but not hooked up to our house, yet.

I was scrubbing the bathroom this morning, and realized that Cary had failed in putting an item on our "to get for back up" list. He bought a new seal (back up) for the toilet, but never got around to getting the "guts" for the tank. That was added to my next shopping list. It pays to have a "running list" going all the time to add things that are thought of throughout the day. I keep one going on my kitchen countertop all the time, mostly for grocery/storage items, but add other things as they are thought of.

Hey all of you.
Still waiting for this nasty cold to be done. Spent weekend at son's as he was working another 60.
I don't watch TV. But he has this huge tv with Netflix on it.
Watched the series Designated Survivor. It was really good up till the 3rd season.
Then started on Criminal Minds. So far really good.
I'll just be watching when I'm at son's.
Mortgage should be done soon. Appraisal should be set up soon, then the rest.
We're having a small tday dinner since will be just us and daughters family.
And we have the huge Christmas party in December.
Oh boy. After Thanksgiving comes the pre party cleaning and paint touch up and deco.
Yee haw. Daughter and I have a plan. I got to get better soon as it's gonna be some work.
Hubs went to town get a thermostat for jeep.
Take care everyone

A relative that I haven't heard from in like 40 years left me a voice mail while I was running errands this morning. I guess I should just assume she wants to reconnect since we're old, but I have a feeling she wants something. If it's money, she's out of luck, I don't have any. And I have a 1 bedroom house for a reason, nobody can move in. We were close when we were little kids, but when we were teenagers, she wouldn't have anything to do with me anymore. Pondering on what to do about it...
WM had all of my pick up order, except they had no tea bags. I stopped at the local grocery and paid $3.39 each for grapefruit juice. It was $1.84 in May. Dh may not be getting anymore.
I'm feeling unsettled and like I need to get things done, as well...

I keep a running list of things, and it helps me greatly. As I think of something, I add it right away.
I got by Tractor supply today for a couple bags of chicken feed. When I use up one, I go buy two. I’d prefer to have more, but this way is working.
Slow and steady.

I have that unsettled feeling as well. I keep praying and asking “to be nudged” in the directions I should keep going.

Marseydoats: your wariness of long-lost relative is justified IMO. Dh (before his multi-illnesses and debility) had a half-sister try to contact him after many years of silence........his father always said, "Don't trust her", so he did not respond. There was a check in our spirits about this contact.............GO WITH YOUR GUTS....IMO

I got a fb request from a first cousin. We were talking on the phone before DH & I met. She and both of her brothers are seriously messed up, along with all but two of my other first cousins. I want nothing to do with any of them. This particular cousin is a biden lover and a trump hater. My mother's sisters were messed up too, but they are long gone.

Beware.

She just seems to be lonely. I didn't know she had divorced her husband. I was really careful what I said to her, but she lives almost 2 hours away. She might be able to find the road I live on, but google maps say my address doesn't exist --- I've had some really fun conversations with UPS about that. I have Deliverance type neighbors, city folks would never get out of their cars around here. And my closest neighbor has 22 dogs that run loose and bite, so I think I'm ok. I just thought it was really strange that she contacted me out of the blue...

I have a large family on both Mom and Dad's side. We've all lived in this area for generations. Lots of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cousins, plus aunts and uncles. If any one of them on my mom's side contacted me out of the clear blue, I would immediately question their motive. I walked away from all but one (an aunt)of them years ago. The only time I'm in contact with any of them is at family funerals. Not a single one of them know exactly where I live. I want to keep it that way.

The boxes from commodities were kind of lite yesterday. We each get a box. But there were some goodies in them, 2# bag of shrimp times two. At least one box had two cans of salmon. We haven't gotten any in awhile. I really didn't see everything because DH was digging through them and putting things away before I could see what was there. I think we even got green beans, which will replace the ones I used this week (LOL). We got 20 pounds of potatoes which we are giving away since we don't eat much in the way of potatoes. I didn't have the energy before I got sick to even consider canning them. And since we don't eat them much its not something we'd miss.

DH has made some headway in the pantry room, nothing in front of the back door anymore, although I can no longer get in the actual pantry since he put stuff in the door way. But its good he has one shelf unit completely cleaned off and taken apart.

My rowing machine is now in the summer kitchen (at some point I'm going to drag it to the cabin. My brother is taking my big recumbent bike, which is a blessing. I have another small one that folds that works just fine. I need to get on it to strengthen my legs.

When we picked up commodities yesterday I didn't even get out of the truck and I was totally exhausted, short of breath and struggled to even get in the house. When I first wake up I feel great, but as the day progresses I feel worse, just no energy and short of breath. I'm thinking about going to the VA about the short of breath thing.

I'm older, too. Listen to your gut! Avoid calling her back.
Over 40 years of no contact suggests to me that she's desperate and looking for money.
Desperate = Drama, which I do my best to avoid.

Also, how did she get your phone number? You might want to review your opsec.

Yep. Got that, too. Cary installed a new toilet back in the summer. He bought a new back up seal at the time, but didn't need it. So, we have that one put away. We've always had another toilet seat for use on a 5 gal bucket if we need to use that as a back up toilet. The only thing left is the tank thingies that are already on my shopping list.

We've always kept several packages of note pads (legal pads) and pencils in storage. This morning, I went on the hunt of another note pad. I realized that we had let those slip, and I'm down to one pad! Added those right away to my list, too.

Yeah! She learned that I was posting her pics that she sent me. So she got something to display them. What a brat! LOL

The wife likes the various colors. Won't pick them green. Says they have more flavor when in color.
I agree with the flavor being better once they ripen. I‘ve never been much for hot peppers but I love ripened bell peppers and two of my grandkids now love them too.

The only cousin left that I speak to (all the good ones died) gave her my #. I never in a million years thought this relative would try and contact me. I had told my cousin not to give any of my contact info to the trashy relatives who always want something, but hadn't said anything about the rest of the family.
My cousin is a wonderful, kind, loving person who thinks the best of everyone. She sometimes makes me wish I weren't so cynical.

I had an elderly cousin like that. I also have druggie relatives in Florida who are in and out of jail/drug rehab programs. It got so that I only gave her my latest PO box, which she still passed on to the meth heads. She meant well, but such an airhead! She's on the other side, now. I'm glad she's not living through this Covid crap. She couldn't have handled it.

I don't have the problem of having druggies in my mom's family. Their problem is that they're all very wealthy socialites with an attitude. By the time Cary and I got married, I had seen enough of thei attitudes towards others who were not in their status circles, and the vanity of it all, that I chose to walk away. Made me sick. The whole bunch. Once I married, and chose the life we now live, I fell from grace in their eyes, and they all look at me as if I'm an outcast. So be it. My mom has one sister that has always treated me with respect no matter her status. She's the one that we take Mom to visit over in Alabama from time to time.

My dad's family isn't that way, although, they have wealth too, but all my aunts and uncles on his side have passed. All the cousins are scattered, so I don't get to see them very often. Only one 1st cousin looks down her nose at me, because I don't fit into the clan click anymore.

I chose to live my life on my terms, not what everyone expected of me. The quiet country life suits me lots better.

I ordered several sizes of storage containers with locking lids. DH got some of them from Walmart pickup last night and the other 3 will be shipped. They will be tremendously helpful for organizing and storage of foods that are in bags or boxes, medicine, first aid supplies, etc. We don’t get mice in the house often but it does happen and I don’t want them ruining things. Now, for the time and energy to get it done.
