I ordered several sizes of storage containers with locking lids. DH got some of them from Walmart pickup last night and the other 3 will be shipped. They will be tremendously helpful for organizing and storage of foods that are in bags or boxes, medicine, first aid supplies, etc. We don’t get mice in the house often but it does happen and I don’t want them ruining things. Now, for the time and energy to get it done.
Its easy to over load the totes making them very heavy. Ask me how I know.

I ordered some movies for the grandboys from Walmart. I needed a little more to get free shipping. I added 3 jars of the coconut oil I use. It arrived on Sunday. No movies yet. But when I opened it, 2 jars were in a bubble wrap sack together and 1 in a bubble sack by itself. I thought 2 glass jars side by side was pushing my shipping luck. But no they were both fine. The one packed in it's own sack was broken. :shr: Walmart refunded that jar, so all is good. I just need the movies to come in.

We cut up a bunch of fat wood. Some still needs to be split some more. But it sure makes starting a fire easy. Just a couple little pieces will do. This time of year, we don't keep a fire all the time. We are just too warm some days and nights. We let the heat pump take care of things when it's not cold enough to need the wood heater.

We got our wood on Tuesday, got it stacked and used some last night. It's not fully seasoned but we have some that is, so we burned both. It was nice to have a fire.
Thanksgiving was just us this year. The family gathering is at my brother's. We were planning to go but dh's tests said otherwise.
We got the vent/fan for the green house, he'll install it tomorrow. So we're going to be cleaning today.
Making a Walmart list for Sunday pickup.
That's it from here! Prayers for everyone!

We had a great Thanksgiving with family. It was Cary and I, DS and DDIL, her mother and sister. Youngest DS is back in Texas for his MS treatment. Mom wanted to go to her best friend's house for dinner. Our gathering was small, but we had plenty of food. Everyone managed to fix themselves a plate to take home with them.

The "Jericho" series came in, so we now get to watch that each night, once we are finished with "Revolution". We're looking forward to it. The Mountain House order and Skullcap still hasn't arrived.

It'll be around the first of the month, before I get back to town for shopping. My list is growing, but because of my limited budget, I may have to take a few things off. Just can't afford to get everything all at once. Maybe, I should make out a "priorities" list, instead.

About....Skullcap. I did some research on it, and came to the conclusion that it might help with anxiety issues that come up from time to time. More here, lately. I didn't see anything about it being addictive or habit forming. Does anyone know? I read that Valerian Root is addictive, so I want to stay away from that one.

No dependece issues with skullcap OR valerian root, AFAIK. We've used both for years. That said, ANYTHING that calms you can create a psychological dependence if used daily over a long period. However, we've found skullcap to be very useful.

I'm hoping it helps me. I need a little something from time to time to take the edge off. I've weened myself off the prescription drug I've taken for 20 yrs on a nightly basis. I can tell I still need a bit of something, but don't want to put myself into a position of having to break another habit if it becomes no longer available. Trazadone wasn't addictive, but it does cause dependencies. I had to slowly ween myself off. Skullcap sounded about right to me, after checking into several different things.

Thanks!

I've been taking Trazadone for sleeping for years. I cut back on the amount a little while back because of the dizziness side affect, since I've been having problems with being dizzy. I have a good supply.

As for Valerian Root, it worked great for awhile and then it did nothing. I bought some recently just to have some on hand.

Going into the uncertain future, I wanted to be free of as many prescription drugs as Cary and I could be. That's why I broke my dependence on Trazadone. I've been off for a few months now. My MD took me off HCQ, so I'm free of all prescription drugs. I'm studying up on lots of different foods, vitamins, and herbals that we can use, instead. I don't need anything to help me sleep at night, but I do have mild anxiety attacks from time to time. That's why I want Skullcap. If it doesn't work for me, I'll try Valerian Root.

My brother brought me some heavy duty shelves for my pantry room to replace the ones that were failing. We have two of them together. My brother commented that they have gone up in price. I told him that every thing is going up in price.

And as for the shelves I'm thinking that people are buying them to put their stuff on. Gotta have some place to put all those extra commodities they have been buying. Brother has three of the much larger ones in his garage to put stuff on. He does have a nice walk in pantry but I imagine its long sense been full to exploding. Although he does not have the supply that I do.

I ran some errands today and one thing on the list was to get more pint canning jars. I found a case at the local hardware store. I mentioned to the cashier that I was going to can some leftover turkey today. The cashier said that she'd been canning meats because you need to be ready for whatever is coming that doesn't look good. So it's apparently not just us here who are uncomfortable about the future.

Canning is in process.

DS just got another heavy duty shelving unit for their pantry room. They have lots of cases and flats of things just stacked in the floor. This unit will help them organize better. I think he is planning to get another one to start another pantry in his underground garage, too.

DH went “black friday shopping“ yesterday and decided to check on canning supplies while he was out, brought home 8 boxes of wide mouth ball lids! Not on sale of course but it’s been awhile since he found any there.

I‘ve had a fibro flare up and felt really rough Wednesday and Thursday. My daughter‘s always help with the meal and DH went above and beyond this year. He made the cornbread for the dressing and took care of the turkey (21 lbs) from start to finish, made his usual pecan pie and he made deviled eggs for the first time. The DD’s did all the veggie chopping, other baking/cooking etc. Other than starting the green beans in the crockpot Wed. night and helping youngest DD mix up the dressing Thursday, this was the least I’ve ever done for a Thanksgiving meal. I‘m feeling some better and I’ve made turkey stock from the carcass and I hope to get it canned tomorrow. And I have a gallon of yogurt going in the Instant Pot since I had milk getting close to being out of date.

I'm interested in your green bean recipe cooked in a crockpot. I have more than 216 cases of green beans.

I usually use 1 quart and 1 pint of green beans. Dump them in the crockpot, add 1 packet of Goya ham seasoning, a little bacon grease and/or olive oil, about a tsp. of sugar (southern grandmothers) and let it go overnight. Since I put salt in the beans when I can them and the seasoning and bacon grease, I don’t add salt. If the liquid doesn’t ”just” cover the beans, I add a little water.

7 boxes of stuff sent to a local thrift store.
Made some improvements to the greenhouse heat wise. Planted broccoli rabe, kale and swiss chard in the raised bed.
I wanted to add a new no till garden bed now so it's ready for spring. Got some big cardboard pieces from a friend. I've got leaves, dirt and some old compost to start it.
We have caught 4 fair sized mice, usually we only catch one this time of year. Hopefully that's not an indication how hard winter's going to be.

2 cans a week for two years

Thanks Aviax2 for the recipe.

OK, that is more like it. You have 216 CANS of green beans, not 216 cases.. I couldn’t visualize how one family could store 216 cases of anything in a regular sized mobile home...

I write the wrong word to, alot of times. I am thinking one thing, but my fingers type out ssomething else. LOL...

Well it seems like 216 cases. but its just 16 cases. We don't actually have a regular sized mobile home. He's added two huge rooms one on the front and one on the back. And next to the one on the back he added a 10x12 walk in closet. I probably do have 216 cases of food all together though.

Before he added the closet we had to replace our washing machine and there was just about no way we could have gotten the old one through the house and the new one in. So he cut a hole in the back wall of our bedroom and move the appliances in and out with his tractor. then he put the wall back and you could not tell where he had cut it out. That's is where he added the walk in closet.

DH was in the mobile home set up and repair business for 20 years before he started driving a truck. Its amazing what he can do to a mobile home.

Has anyone heard or read about social security changing payment dates starting in January 2022.
Dh gets his payment on the 3rd. This would change it till the last week of the month.

He sent me an article about it but it's from the Sun.
I haven't seen anything else so far about it.

I finally pretty much over the nasty cold. 2 weeks.
It's been snowing and cold.
Got a bunch to do for big Christmas party in a few weeks.
Different obstacles right now. Praying much.

Folks that have been getting SS for many years should be grandfathered under the original 3rd day of the month payment plan.

Sometime in the latter part of the 1990s - while Bill Clinton was president - they changed payment dates to the second, third or fourth Wednesday, based on what day of the month you were born.

so all new SS recipients get their checks on either the second, third or fourth wednesday of the month now. But it has been that way for over 20 years now.

As far as I know, folks who have been getting their checks on the third day of the month (that is, the folks who have been collecting since the 1990s) will continue to get it on that day…

I sure hope so, as that would really be hard on us unless we had a way to plan ahead during the winter. Could manage better in the warm months.
I thought it might be something like that.
Thank you Barry

I just went out and read several places that the dates are not changing. I downloaded the pdf from the SSA and mine's the same.
