Hiwall , What is the vac sealer that works best with jars? Mine (Foodsaver) doesn't stay sealed longer than 10 minutes.

Thank you, there are, however, some on this forum that would suggest paring down. I'm like you I will not do it. I do share commodities every month with my pastor, sometimes the entire haul. But that is it. At 74 I'm figuring that my pantry will out last me, but what ever. I just have to keep organizing.

Most people just don't realize what a year's worth of food looks like. If one had to only eat out of their pantry for a whole year, could they do it? JUST out of their pantry? Two years? Three? As long as I'm able to buy and store food, I'll continue to do so. If things continue to go south, we may not be able to go to the grocery store at all. Even if we have the money to do so, will there be anything there to buy? Those who still are able to maintain a huge garden probably will be able to manage, but for those of us who can't, we can only buy and store it.

I got up early to run all my errands, and then thought I'd better check and make sure everything was going to be open. A lot of places have changed their hours with Covid, and my 1st and 3rd stop didn't open until 10 AM. That threw a monkey wrench in my entire day. I'm usually at WM right after 8 when they open.
Gas shortage or no, I am too old to do 3 days of errands in 1 day. I was only gone 4 hours, but I was hustling. It is a long way to the store and I take a bunch of coolers to put my perishables in. When I got home, dh unloaded the car for me and I put stuff away. I spent $400 between Aldi and WM, things have really increased in price. I wanted another table fan, but all WM had was box fans. When I was in there a couple weeks ago, they had 3 full aisles of different kinds of fans and today all they had was box fans on end caps. They didn't have any Compleats, but I got everything else I wanted.
I did twist dh's arm and he let me take some more broken electronics to the recycle
I saw on the way home that my regular station has gas again, but I don't know how long it will last. We have enough food for a month if dh does without his ice cream and I have enough library books to last me 2 weeks, so I think I'm covered.

Our metal roof needs to have the screws and seals replaced, along with some of the plumbing vent boots, so we measured and are ordering those. Can't do the roof if no materials!
A good bit of the garden is in, even though our temps are running 48/42, on the cold side. The geraniums and geraniums are still in the house.

Got some violets potted up and some cleaned to tincture later today. I just get tired out so quickly it seems. I did one load of laundry, texted a client and my daughters.
At my age, everything is bit by bit too. But, those bits, planned out for maximum usefulness in accomplishing various kinds of goals (family, food, cleaning, upkeep, and just happiness) can make a big impact!

What type of violets do you use? I have wood violets growing wild all over my yard. At least that's what I've been told they are. They bloom early spring with purple or white flowers.

I started out years ago with the seal a meal which I saved for and loved. Then I got into food savers and I will always have one. Very useful things.
Today I'm hardening off some eggplants and peppers, planting corn, sunflowers and zinnia. Then replanting a small row of cucumbers. Hopefully it's now warm enough!
I have found someone to build my greenhouse, not a huge project but one I really am excited about.
Rearranged my salve containers and small amber jars. Hoping to make some comfrey salve and chamomile. The herb garden is planted and most is doing well.
Putting together a large Walmart order.

No gas shortages in Central Iowa, either. But regular is running $2.86 or so, up from $2.39.

It's pouring rain this afternoon. No complaints because we need it, but it's putting a damper on my outside work. I managed to get the front lawn mowed, at least, and spread another layer of mulch over my potato hills in hopes of keeping the winged maple seeds from taking root. They are everywhere! There was a bumper crop of them this spring.

I'm glad my vehicles have been raised on 87 octane.

If our price keeps going up, there will be even less driving for us than there already is. I may have to do only once a month shopping, instead of twice a month. Thank God for being able to shop online, too. We get free shipping at Sam's, and since our Walmart order is usually large, we get free shipping there, too.

We're forecast for some rain every day for the next week so I planted a few things outside in pots and I won't have to water them for a while. I put in peas, lettuce, brocolli, cauliflower, cabbage and some sprouted potatoes. Last night I had a serving of blue potatoes from a pot in the sunroom and I've had some tomatoes too. Won't keep me from starving, but it's fun.

I haven;t been near a gas station in over a week so I have no idea what gas is going for around here.

Dh is cutting a specific size board to work on in the inside of his cabin, so he will have something to do when its raining. I'm continuing to work on organizing my preps and today I'm also doing laundry. Need to get that done in case of power outages.

We've been outdoors working, today. Our weather is beautiful. Low 80's and sunny skies. Tomorrow should be the same. I think we have slight chances of rain moving back in Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Tomatoes are doing good, and I've been working around in my flowers and shrubs, while Cary has been treating the house for termites. He does this every spring. Buys the same concoction that the professionals use at LOWE's. Lots cheaper than paying them to do it. Also, got my rose bushes treated for "black spot", fertilized good, and trimmed off the old blooms. I use rose food on them.

I got 4 tall "shepherd's hook" poles for the back yard around the deck. I'm planning to get hummingbird feeders to hang on them. We have lots of hummingbirds every year. I've got to take Mom for another doctor's visit, Tuesday, and we'll go shopping for them while I'm in town with her. No need to make a special trip 35 miles away just for feeders. Not with the way our gas prices are.

Last week I hit Walmart and replaced some canned goods we had used recently, along with some soap, shampoo, and some extra rice and beans. Today I hit Winn Dixie and got enough ground chuck to can up 5 pints and have enough left over for a couple of burgers (my canner only does 5 pints at a time). I will can it up tonight. Tomorrow I will head to Bass Pro with $50 in gift cards and buy pouches of freeze-dried food. I need to put stuff away, but I am out of places to stick things.

We have been wanting another lift chair and found on Marketplace for $300. We had to drive a ways to look at it. It was nice, but it was not comfortable on my neck, but dh liked is so I went ahead and bought it, she came down to $275 on the price.

we nearly killed ourselves getting it in the house, but we worked together and got it done. So dh has a new to him chair and he gave me his and I’m happy with that. I’ve been sleeping in his chair for over a year because big my allergy related cough.

we have to move the sofa to a different spot but it will work out well. I was looking at new ones and a decent one is about twice the price of what I paid. We are well satisfied with this purchase,
