anything I had y2k got ruined in Katrina. I have run across things that I had forgotten about though. Keeping a written inventory is definitely a good idea. Once everything is jarred up, bagged up and bucketed up I'll make an effort to do that. When organizing your "stuff" do you come across a really great item you forgot about and can't remember where you got them to help others aquire same.
I have decided i need to not just inventory but will start a binder of what I have, dates purchased and any instructions that go with.
On another note, in 98 or 99 did anyone else purchase the " Hospital In A Box"?
So many things that hit the "net" in 98-99 were really great ideas no longer available anywhere.
For y2k I converted my closet to storage of food. My family laughed at me. When ex and I bought a new mobile home in 2000 and moved to Slidell I had a nice size laundry room and stored foods there. When we evacuated for Katrina I took as much as I could with me. Looking back and compared to what I have now I had a pitiful amount of food stored. It would have to be a really good sale for me to continue adding to my storage. My pantry room is bulging and overflowing into our bedroom. Now, it's full, underneath our bed is full, kitchen shelves are full, and the laundry room is the only place I have left to store anything. I'm saving that space for home canned veggies this summer.
Back before Y2k, we went crazy with stocking up on long term food items. When nothing happened, we gave most of it to Mom to keep what she wanted and donate the rest to her church. I don't know what we were thinking other than we were brand new to prepping at that time. I won't make that mistake again, but I'm not going to store more than what we will use before it ruins. If it's 3-5 years past it's expiration date, I toss it, or use it for dog food. That doesn't include our long term storage food that can last a very long time. Mountain House and Augason Farms.

I just bought three of them to try on my last grocery trip. They were pricey at 3/$5 but have been good. I am saving the jars. I saw they sell cute wooden lids on Amazon. I will find a use for them (Wont buy lids until I do).I love whole milk yogurt...have you.. noticed that oui in the little glass jars is all whole milk now..it is expensive but it is a great treat... occasionally.... you can also purchase lids for the jars so you can reuse the jars for herbs spices seeds or other small things.
I'm so sorry! Praying for you and Cary, and for you son and DIL!More bad news. Our youngest estranged son and his wife just lost their baby. She was 12 weeks along. Got word from Mom. It would have been our second grandbaby, but since he is estranged from us, we probably never would have had a chance to see it. Our oldest DS and his wife lost our first one last year.
Thank Sherree for mentioning using the hand warmers. This way I don't have to open a package of oxygen absorbers for only a couple of things.
I've not used any in jars, just totes where I've put the contents in a large clear plastic bag, sucked the air out as best as I can and then add on hand warmer. I have a good supply of oxygen absorbers but don't want to open a package for one or two containers. For jars I vacuum seal and jars have stayed sealed for several years.I love using those hand warmers! They are so easy to use, and I've started using them, exclusively, to vacuum seal all my canning jars. Just shake them good to activate and toss in the jar along with the contents. Within just a few minutes, the jar will "pop" with a very tight seal. I use one hand warmer in a pint jar and 2 for quarts.

Sheree, prayers. That's a whole lot of heart and soul hurting. Sending virtual hugs.
Boss is switching things up yet again so I may not have a gradual ramping up to 40 hours. I reached out to a friend that occasionally cleans houses and asked her if she could attack the deep clean for me, starting in the kitchen. Not the everyday stuff. The pull out all the storage containers and clean around them. The fridge, the oven, the hutch, the shelving unit, etc. I physically just can't do it yet because of the sheer volume of moving things to and from so other things can be cleaned. And I'm so tired of looking at it undone. We're actually likely going to barter a lot of the work because I have some kitchen supplies and other stuff that I don't use, and she would like to have.
I had to order drip pans from amazon because I wanted black and needed one large and three small, walmart this not carry this combination.I was telling Cary just the other day that I wanted to take everything out of my kitchen cabinets and do a deep cleaning there. I have items I haven't used in years that I can do without. It all needs to be reorganized. I also bought new drip pans for the stove elements at Walmart, yesterday. My stove and oven need a thorough cleaning, and new drip pans. I'm glad you are getting help.
