When organizing your "stuff" do you come across a really great item you forgot about and can't remember where you got them to help others aquire same.
I have decided i need to not just inventory but will start a binder of what I have, dates purchased and any instructions that go with.
On another note, in 98 or 99 did anyone else purchase the " Hospital In A Box"?
So many things that hit the "net" in 98-99 were really great ideas no longer available anywhere.

anything I had y2k got ruined in Katrina. I have run across things that I had forgotten about though. Keeping a written inventory is definitely a good idea. Once everything is jarred up, bagged up and bucketed up I'll make an effort to do that.

I can actually see day light in the pantry closet. And being able to walk down the isles in my pantry room is wonderful. Once I locate an item I'm looking for i remembert where DH stored it.

I finally tried one of the compleats that I stored away in 2019, I didn't care for it. Makes great dog food. I'll try each one and if I like it I'll eat it and if I don't the dog wins out.

I've finally gotten to the canned Keystone beef that I bought when it was on sale a couple of years or so ago. Cans have a tendancy to rust in the closet, but these cans seem to be in good shape, I sure hope so.

DH pulled out a can of pintos that had rusted on the top and I opened it on the bottom and it was all good, no rust had gotten into the can.

yesterday the two cases of wide mouth quarts were delivered. They were actually pretty well packaged. They were probably safe on the porch, but since I'm skeptical about things I brought them into the house. DH asked if I was afraid someone would steal them I said yes. Although we do live in the woods and very few people come back here I'm still careful. I lived in New Orleans too long to be trusting. The first few years after I moved here I kept the truck doors locked as well as the front door was locked even if I went out side to do something. We got pretty slack about keeping things locked but we are making sure things are locked up when we go somewhere. DH never closed and locked the doors of his work shop where he stores his tools, but after I asked him to lock the door he's locking it now, sometimes even at night. The tractor is not left out anymore, he puts it in a shed. Outta sight outta mind. People could sneak up here through the woods and steal stuff, just like someone that stole a can of gas, although they did leave the can by the mail box.

Still putting up food in the pantry.

Getting our home repairs done. Next up is piers under the house.

Put up a grow light in the greenhouse which is helping.

Got 25 comfrey starts I need to plant. I'll put them in pots in the greenhouse. Bocking 4. I've lost all of my bocking 7 plants from the drought. And my bee balm.

Got a new storage cabinet and cleaned out a china cabinet for more storage.

Judy, as far as Compleats go, I like the chicken breast and mashed potatoes and the spaghetti. I always wipe the grease off the top of the spaghetti before I eat it.
They used to make turkey and dressing, and I liked those as well. But I haven't seen them in years.

It would have to be a really good sale for me to continue adding to my storage. My pantry room is bulging and overflowing into our bedroom. Now, it's full, underneath our bed is full, kitchen shelves are full, and the laundry room is the only place I have left to store anything. I'm saving that space for home canned veggies this summer.

Back before Y2k, we went crazy with stocking up on long term food items. When nothing happened, we gave most of it to Mom to keep what she wanted and donate the rest to her church. I don't know what we were thinking other than we were brand new to prepping at that time. I won't make that mistake again, but I'm not going to store more than what we will use before it ruins. If it's 3-5 years past it's expiration date, I toss it, or use it for dog food. That doesn't include our long term storage food that can last a very long time. Mountain House and Augason Farms.

For y2k I converted my closet to storage of food. My family laughed at me. When ex and I bought a new mobile home in 2000 and moved to Slidell I had a nice size laundry room and stored foods there. When we evacuated for Katrina I took as much as I could with me. Looking back and compared to what I have now I had a pitiful amount of food stored.

With this shingles in my eye ...I a bit more limited in what I can do...but a month or so ago I bought one of those plastic cases for photos that have the smaller boxes inside. 4x6 ..boxes to put our seed in so I should be able to divide by type and get that done..

The shingles blisters started last weekend around the 6th and the blisters are totally dried up and just scabs are continuing to heal now the swelling is gone as is the redness around the blisters is gone and they are just brown

..the first doc I saw...not my regular doc...on Tuesday the 10th ... She confirmed that it was shingles and had her nurse get me an appointment with eye doctor...but she did not believe us that blisters were only a few days old....she kept questioning us about when they started...what we told her didn't fit her time frame...so her disbelief confirmed to me I was on the right track...she had no interest what I had done...and offered no treatment.....Tuesday was the first time we could be seen...it is a rather large general practice and they have certain days and hours for walk in...nothing on the weekend and the website lists hours for walk in..so dh went to work on Monday planning to leave early to take me....but when I called they had changed the hours ...so it was not possible to be seen on Monday....she scolded us for not coming sooner...lol..we were trying....this practice is very close to where dh works and the people there all have a doctor there for primary care...on Thursday when he went back to work dh told the guys about her and what she had done...turns out they all hate her.....and try not to see her. My regular doc is great and he was not available

I want to detail what I have done in case it may help someone else down the road.. especially if medical care becomes nearly or non existent..
I sprayed the rash with colloidal silver..whenever it itched or burned...it relieved the burn/itch and then let it dry on my skin..that made it easy not to touch the rash..it also seemed to start drying it up the right away..
.I upped my Vitamin D3 and K2 (MK7) a lot...I took a lot of Vitamin C....1000 several times a day...I took Olive Leaf Extract twice a day...2 500 mg pills each time....it is very antiviral....

my cousin in AZ has an MD who uses natural things as much as he can told her that inflammation is cause of many problems in the body and to take quercetin 2000mg per day for inflammation ... she had told me about it about a week before this happened... God is good all the time ...I knew that I had inflammation so I started on quercetin...my eye was very swollen....and red both outside on the lid and inside...

I also have a mixed mushroom powder and started mixing it V-8 and drinking that just here and there...the last thing was Kyolic garlic.. formula 103...immune... I have taken 2 every day.

My eye doctor is wonderful and as I said before a true Christian...I told him about all the things I am doing and have his total approval ...with the alternative meds....he confirmed that I have major inflammation in the eye and affirmed the quercetin..and the colloidal silver....he is giving me an antiviral pill, and 2 eye drops....one to reduce the pressure and a steroid...we have reduced the pressure from 41 to 23 in two days time..but it still a little high....my vision is very blurry like looking through a heavy fog...but one of the drops is white and really makes it even more foggy and I still have some swelling.
I won't see him again until Monday a week away...praying things continue to improve and I don't lose the sight in my eye..

I am praying for all of you ...and hope you have a wonderful week and that God meets your needs

Before Y2k, we had a ton of long term food stored up. We sorta went crazy with it. We were so convinced that all the "doom" surrounding Y2k was actually going to happen. When the "doom" didn't happen, we were stuck with all this food. We didn't know what to do with it all, so we gave it away. Stupid us, we didn't realize that we could still use it. I figured it would go bad, before we used it all. We learned a lot during Y2k and afterwards. Now, I have even more food in storage, but it is all food that we use daily, not for the purpose of just having food in storage, especially food that we won't eat, or hardly ever will eat and will probably ruin, before we ever use it. I buy and store only what we know we like and will eat on a regular basis to keep a good rotation going.

Lost yesterday to a migraine. Dagnabbit. I managed to pick up a order from Joann's but by the time I got home and dealt with guests, my brain was badly fogged. I ended up napping on the couch, half in/half out. And I punted for dinner. Son got chicken quinoa and rice. I had a section of frozen pizza.

I've taken to buying the keto friendly pizzas and then breaking them down into meal size sections before tossing them back in the freezer. Although that is giving me problems with them sticking to the cardboard when cooked. I may start adding a sheet of parchment paper.

Woke up this morning to my back brain having tossed some things forward. Makes sense but I'll talk to doc about it in two weeks. One thing that was blatantly clear was my hormones thought I was on my period. I'd had enough of that so Midol came to the rescue. The caffeine is being more effective today than yesterday.

I'm working on the late Christmas gifts. And I added a couple of other things to that pile. Finally getting caught up on the laundry and dishes.

Pork carnita leftovers got bagged for the freezer. Another 4 meals there. And the pork stock was bagged for freezer also. I was going to can it but decided that it needed to exit the fridge before it went bad. I'm not up to pulling the PC this weekend. One day, if I don't use them up before then, I can pull them, and the bags of chicken stock, and get them canned.

One of the the bulk sites I keep track of has bulk ground turkey, so if I can't get a better price locally next month I will order from them.

I bought mandarins to can but the body really wanted citrus. I'll have to try that again. I found a chemical that safely removes all the interior pith and preps them. That makes it so much easier to can them. I'm debating using it to also can up lemonade concentrate.

I need to find some recipes to pre-package homemade rice and quinoa mixes. The pre-made mixed boxes are just getting too costly. I may see about making them to fill a half gallon jar and portion out what is needed when it's needed. Only son can eat them now, so I can stick with flavors he likes.

Little by little. The freezers are packed an I am working on keeping them that way. It gives me room to watch for sales. I'm completely out of chicken breast but I've got whole birds. Chicken breast is just too high in price right now. I'm even buying the canned chicken instead of canning it myself because of the prices.

Colloidal silver and tea tree for shingles. That's interesting. I wonder if calendula would help as well.

Prayers for everyone for healing and peace.

I finally made it to walmart, been having the same list for a few weeks. We went to a different one than we usually go to so some things are a bit different. I like the low carb street tacos but this store does not carry them, so I didn't get that. they also didn't have the whole milk yogurt with vanilla flavoring that I like, but they do carry more than one brand of whole milk yogurt, I got the Stoneyfarms brand greek yogurt plain. I will have to add something to that, stevia and vanilla extract will probably do the trick. They had the sliced chedder cheese and block chedder that I like. I got two of the yogurt and each cheese because I'm not getting to the store very often any more.

They had some canning jars, a lot of golden harvest, but I got the ball brand, regular mouth in pint and quart, no wide mouths in them and they had one case of the 1/2 gallon and I got it.

I had to sit down on the bench in the pharmacy to rest my back. by the time I got to check out I felt like I was about to fall out. Thank goodness DH had parked close to the door, he had to unload the cart. Fortunately it wasn't over flowing. I did not replace anything I had used out of the pantry, just the fresh stuff, oh and a package of oyster crackers. I guess I'm going to have to learn how to use one of those things you drive around in at the store, skooter or something like that. My stamina has gone some where else, maybe I need to up my DE.

I love whole milk yogurt...have you.. noticed that oui in the little glass jars is all whole milk now..it is expensive but it is a great treat... occasionally.... you can also purchase lids for the jars so you can reuse the jars for herbs spices seeds or other small things.

I have found cans of light and dark meat chicken at Walmart..the larger 12 oz or so size.....I tried some in recipes and found I really liked it because the dark meat added more flavor and fat which we may need if things get worse. I didn't notice it for a while because there is a lot more of chicken breast...it was also less expensive than all chicken breast the time I got it.

I just bought three of them to try on my last grocery trip. They were pricey at 3/$5 but have been good. I am saving the jars. I saw they sell cute wooden lids on Amazon. I will find a use for them (Wont buy lids until I do).

Thanks to all for your prayers. We're getting ready to leave for town to do a quick grocery shopping run to get that out of the way. Mom is taking her sister's death really hard. More so than when my uncle passed. My aunt was so much older than Mom that she felt she was another mother to her. Mom was in the middle of making a chicken casserole to take to her for her lunch, today, when she got the call. They were really close. Mom was 10yrs. old when my aunt and uncle married. I'll probably be in and out at Mom's the next couple of days or so. Mom's baby sister and her DH will be coming in from Florence, AL. to stay with Mom for the next few days. I don't yet know when the memorial service will be.

still organizing, just not quite so long each day. DH has gone back to working outside (which he prefers) part of the day, but has not stopped the organizing. I'll mostly be on my own when the weather gets warmer.

I see my keystone small cans of ground beef in the pantry room. and now I can see the larger amount of the keystone beef that is still in a big tote in the pantry closet, it will be coming out of there as the cans tend to get rust on them in there.

I have several shelves over my washer and dryer that I had canned foods stored on, they are now all in the pantry room. There are two other shelving units in that area and they are getting the food off of them. One of the units is an origami unit, I love them, but they are just too expensive anymore. When that unit is cleaned off I'm putting pots and pans there. I have most of my pots that have handles on peg board in my kitchen, but its gotten too cluttered. I have shelves in my second bathroom that have larger pots and pans on and I also have buckets and totes in front of that unit so its very difficult to get to the pots. All of those buckets are in the process of being moved to the cabin.

The other small unit in the washer dryer area will be my short term and use often spices area.

I still have yet to tackle my office, that can wait for now. But one thing in there that I will be working on now is moving all my jewlry making supplies out to the cabin. I was making lots of earrings, bracelets and necklaces about 4 years ago, now only repairing plus I'm pretty much only wearing earrings these days. A couple of years ago I put most of my costume jewelry in hanging shoe bags. Easy to find something (if I could get to the closet in my office). Although I do now have a path to the closet. I know its all disgusting to some people.

I was working on it all myself until I had covid, but at some point I just had little to no stamina. And that was a year ago.

No more stocking up just replacing some things.

I was talking to a lady at church yesterday that has a huge pantry, although the lions share are home canned. She said she served something last week that was from several years ago and it was perfect.

I'm just getting home from town and have put everything away. I just replaced a few things from the pantry, bought fresh produce for 2 weeks, 4 cases of yogurt, dog treats, Jewish rye bread, regular white bread, and rolls, 1 doz large eggs, a large box of gauze pads, Orajel, a bag of large rubber bands, 2 cases of Guinness stout, 2lbs butter, a graham cracker pie crust, 1 can Eagle Brand milk, a tub of cool whip, 4 bags of frozen "steamable in bag" in the microwave veggies, 5lb bag of russet potatoes, 2 large packages of SafeGuard soap, feminine products, and that's all I can think of right now. $359 and some change. Eggs were $4.98/doz large.

I also stopped in and replenished our wine, plus stopped in at the new Merle Norman clothing store. I have just found my new favorite clothing store, LOL! It was great, and it's not too expensive. I bought a pair of black dress slacks, 2 dressy shirts, one black pullover to wear underneath the 2 shirts, and a really nice cream colored pullover knit sweater, all to wear with the dress slacks. That should do me with plenty of new dress clothes for a while.

I ran a bunch of errands on Sat morning since most of the places I needed to go to today would have been closed.
At the dump, somebody had dropped off a huge box of kitchen utensils in the "free" area. I wish I had had time to look thru all of it. The arthritis in my hands is so bad that I have to drink out of a mug, I can't hold a glass anymore. Well there was a perfect sized mug right in the top but it had a really ugly design. I grabbed it and 2 others. Then when I got halfway home I started thinking I shouldn't have done it. I have really limited my dumpster diving since Covid. I had slowed way down beforehand because we just have too much junk as it is. I left the mugs soaking all day in bleach water and scrubbed them really well. The ugly design is growing on me, probably because the mug is so easy to hold.
I think the design and size of mugs that I like went out in the '70's. I've gotten most of the ones I had from the thrift store, but they closed after Covid, and I was down to 1. I was fixing to give up and look on ebay. I hate to buy anything breakable because it usually gets destroyed in transit.
I hauled a couple armfuls of firewood to the house today.
Tried to shovel some sand, but it's till so cold everything is frozen.
I will have to go back to town tomorrow to replace something expensive that broke. :bhd:
Supposed to get nasty and rain all the rest of the week so I need to go ahead and get it done. Will run a couple other errands as well while I'm there.

More bad news. Our youngest estranged son and his wife just lost their baby. She was 12 weeks along. Got word from Mom. It would have been our second grandbaby, but since he is estranged from us, we probably never would have had a chance to see it. Our oldest DS and his wife lost our first one last year.

Sherree, still praying for you and yours. God knows best even when its sad.

I've decided to use a couple of hand warmers in two latching lid totes. I like the latching lids because it makes it harder for the pantry moths and other incedous bug to get in them, but not impossible. So I put a large clear trash bag in the tote and loaded the food, Bear Creek soups in one and individual packages of instant mashed potatoes. I put bay leaf in the bottom and stacked the packages nicely. Once they are full I put a hand warmer in there. The I twist the edges and suck out as much air as possible and then tie that off. It won't be hard to get something out that I need, just have to go through that process again.

In around 08 and 09 I did the same thing with toilet paper. To date that TP is still in pristine condition and I only twisted the ends and sucked the air out. My thinking is that that food will stay viable for a good amount of time.

Thank Sherree for mentioning using the hand warmers. This way I don't have to open a package of oxygen absorbers for only a couple of things.

The other day DH stored some new toilet paper in totes out in the cabin but he did not put them in bags so I have to go out some time in the near future and do that. There was a time that I would have bitched about not putting the TP in bags, but not anymore, I'm just too greatful for all of his wonderful efforts.

Once again, thanks to all for your prayers. I feel pretty down, today, and I'm so tired. All the stress is beginning to show, too. My BP is still stable with the help of the new BP med. Our DS losing his baby makes 3 deaths in the family, since Jan. 1st. I've always heard that death comes in 3's, so I pray that God will give our family a long respite from deaths for quite a while.

Sherree~ I’m so sorry to hear of even more loss in your family. Prayers up for you that you’ll soon feel rested and refreshed.

I‘m still working in the pantry *whew*! Much progress has been made and and a lot of changes are being made. DH did quite a bit of the heavy lifting and adjusting shelving (even when I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted/needed and a few had to be redone). We finally got to the point yesterday where we could bring some canned food items up from the basement to fill in some holes in the FIFO can racks. Once we finish bringing up items to replenish the pantry, I’ll start doing an inventory in both places. We also changed out some 5 gallon buckets to smaller buckets (I think 3 gallon) that I bought a year or so ago with gamma lids for the sugar, all purpose and bread flours etc. to fill up my kitchen canisters from. They are much easier for me to pull off the shelf, lift and carry, and since I don’t bake as much anymore, these sizes work better in the space, the bigger buckets will live downstairs.

DH had a jaw dropping moment a few days ago when I pulled 11, yes eleven bags of various potato, Dorito and tortilla chips from the pantry. He loves his chips but hadn’t realized how many he had because of the disorganization in there. DD1 is picking up a couple of clear bins for us this week that she thinks will help, so I need to make sure to have room on a shelf for them, instead of him sticking them in any spot he can find. I absolutely hate clutter and it really stresses me out and DH is absolutely one of the best men on the planet and also one of the most unorganized in some ways LOL! I’m still hopeful he’ll see the light! He’s out running errands right now and milk, cream and cucumber for the Princess were the only things on the list, I’m interested in what he comes home with but he has been better since the cream cheese incident!

I love using those hand warmers! They are so easy to use, and I've started using them, exclusively, to vacuum seal all my canning jars. Just shake them good to activate and toss in the jar along with the contents. Within just a few minutes, the jar will "pop" with a very tight seal. I use one hand warmer in a pint jar and 2 for quarts.

Sheree, prayers. That's a whole lot of heart and soul hurting. Sending virtual hugs.

Boss is switching things up yet again so I may not have a gradual ramping up to 40 hours. I reached out to a friend that occasionally cleans houses and asked her if she could attack the deep clean for me, starting in the kitchen. Not the everyday stuff. The pull out all the storage containers and clean around them. The fridge, the oven, the hutch, the shelving unit, etc. I physically just can't do it yet because of the sheer volume of moving things to and from so other things can be cleaned. And I'm so tired of looking at it undone. We're actually likely going to barter a lot of the work because I have some kitchen supplies and other stuff that I don't use, and she would like to have.

I've not used any in jars, just totes where I've put the contents in a large clear plastic bag, sucked the air out as best as I can and then add on hand warmer. I have a good supply of oxygen absorbers but don't want to open a package for one or two containers. For jars I vacuum seal and jars have stayed sealed for several years.

Like you, I got tired of having to open a whole bag of oxygen absorbers just to do one or two jars at a time. Using the hand warmers solves that problem for me, and they work just as well. Cheaper, too. I've been using them just over a year now, and those jars I first sealed are still sealed.

Amazon is taking their sweet time shipping orders. I'm not using prime and that is probably why, I'm not ordering from them very much anymore so I don't see the use to have prime.

I've ordered two more of the hand held vacuum sealers. One for a friend and one for me for a back up. I'll make sure the one that goes to my friend works before I give it to her. As well as the one I'm getting for myself. DH and are using the one we have constantly in the organizing of our goods. I can see light at the end of the tunnel but there is still much to do.

The weather is warmer so DH is spending more time outside. But still helping.

I'm in the process of moving all my jewelry stuff to the cabin but I only have stamina to do one bucket full at a time.

I was telling Cary just the other day that I wanted to take everything out of my kitchen cabinets and do a deep cleaning there. I have items I haven't used in years that I can do without. It all needs to be reorganized. I also bought new drip pans for the stove elements at Walmart, yesterday. My stove and oven need a thorough cleaning, and new drip pans. I'm glad you are getting help.

I need to clean out my cabinets to and discard old things.

I just got off the phone with Mom. Tomorrow, at 3pm will be the private family gathering, afterwards, we will all precede to the funeral home for the private family viewing, then it will be open to all friends and to the public until 7pm. The memorial service will be, Thursday, at 11am with another family gathering afterwards at her church for another catered lunch. Let me tell ya, if you haven't had to buy memorial flowers in a while, the cost for something really nice is outrageous.
