MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Last night, at about 7 PM, I had to finish moving the dogs. I had gotten the BIG DOGS in the old house, but could only get the two pups into the cab of my truck. At 7, went out and carried them one at a time to the house thru 12 degrees and about 3 inches of snow!!! I think they were glad to get in the house, but prior to that, I had to get inside and warm up, because I had gotten sopping wet in the sleet that was coming before it started snowing.

They weigh about 40 to 50 pounds each......AGGH!!

Oh what a morning. We weren't supposed to hit 0 but we did. Only just now reaching 7 degrees.

Due to a surprise last night, I had to do a quick grocery run this morning. So up early hoping to avoid the crowds.

Front door was frozen shut. Pulled out the heat gun. Discovered that I shouldn't plug the heat gun into the UPS. Got door open. Got van warming up. Side doors wouldn't work but hatch did. So son climbed in through hatch.

He didn't want to go out and was throwing tantrum. Dropped him with friend, ran to Kroger, got groceries, got gas. Came back to get him.

Friend filled my tires. I want his compressor. He sets it to the PSI and it auto shuts off.

Son's tantrum exploded on the way home and the styrofoam cooler ended up in pieces. Lots of pieces. So scrubbing out a full size cooler is now on the list.

There was a firm discussion. When he finally cooled off he managed to communicate a few things. Got those things handled and now he's settled down. Frustrated that he destroyed the cooler but I knew that was a possibility.

For the most part I'm amused and dealing. Because I pulled out my jeans this morning and they all fit. All of them. Not just the slightly larger pair.

Vet wrap, ST turned me onto it years ago, big supply. Its 17 degrees but at least the sun is shinning, we are warm and cozy.

Dh is still working on the pantry, I'm helping and also working in the kitchen. I have a load of clothes in the washer that really needs to get dried.

The community 6 miles north of us, where our church is, has had some power and water outages. Can't figure out why the water is not flowing, well, if everyone drips their water it will drain the community well, go figure. DH is a yankee and he wrapped our pipes, so far so good.

Sad to say I've lost a few things, but of no consequence, in the pantry, mice and bugs. Pasta mostly, we have a huge supply already, so no big loss. Also some yellow rice, that I didn't repackage. DH had done so much that I'm going to run out of jars. I will be forced to wash the old jars.

I feel your pain. I have now been keeping everything in totes and storage boxes, no matter what the packaging is, partly to keep mice off and out of it, but also to make it possible to stack the totes and boxes on my dolly to move to the BOV if necessary. I wish you so very much luck in this.

Well, shock and surprise! Our estranged youngest son showed up at Mom's house early this morning! He was estranged to us a couple of years, and we made a full reconciliation, but during the height of Covid (Was that last year?), he went off again on us, and left again. No contact from him at all. We still don't know where he's living now. Only Mom knows that, and she's under strict orders from him not to tell us. At least we know he is well. He's the son that has MS and severe PTSD, plus anger issues. It's going to take a miracle for a reconciliation to occur this time, though.

Dh has made a lot of progress in the pantry, I'm helping. He is vacuum sealing pasta in regular vacuum seal bags and then they are going in the freezer for a few days and after they thaw out I'll seal them in buckets or plastic totes that will go on the shelves. There are just some things I want to keep in the house, although they would be fine in the cabin or she shed.

Its not my preference to put the pasta in the vacuum seal bags, but then I've let it all go so long that some things have been ruined, so I'm not saying a thing. I am getting low on jars though.

I think I'm going to start dinner early. Chili it is. Because they started rollong blackouts this morning, and then paused them. I won't be surprised to see them restart when folks get home from work and the sun goes down.

So dinner done early and extra blankets pulled for the beds. I won't pull the kerosene heaters unless it becomes more than 30 minute rolling blackouts, once every few hours. But then, someone did also point out to them that the power supply demand would actually be worse because the heat pumps would then be trying to catch up.

I turned down the heat last night because I know the bill will be bad if I don't. And I'll keep it down for the next few days. We have electric blankets and lots of quilts.

Son has a migraine that is not responding to meds. Likely from the sudden change in pressure and temp. Right now he's on all meds and there's one more rescue med I can pull out if needed. He did like his new desert though. That went down fast.

The big cooler has been scrubbed and bleached. I'm about to fill some extra ice packs. And I tossed over half of my "on hand" drinks in the freezer. Bevause my family likely won't have anything I can safely drink.

The surprise last night was that Christmas dinner has been ordered pre-made. That doesn't faze me at all for me. But it means that there will be nothing that is safe for my son to eat. If I hadn't found out, all he would have had would have been ham and some snacks. So run to the grocery while every is still inside because of the cold. I'll make his sides over the next couple of hours and get them in the deep freeze. By the time we get there tomorrow, 20 minutes in the oven will have them ready to eat.

At least I found out last night, when there is still time to fix it.

I started using old popcorn tins for some things. Pasta is one. Because I can freeze it, and then drop it in the tin.
I also found 5 gallon steel buckets with lock lids locally. Those help.
And I put requests put periodically for large glass bottles from pickles, etc.
That way I can save my canning jars for canning. Except for the half gallons that I specifically purchased for storing things. And a few of the tiny sized ones for herb mixes.

Judy, if the pasta is vacuumed sealed in bags, you don't have to freeze them. Just go ahead and seal them in the buckets.

My go to for a migraine that won't quit has always been a snack size dark chocolate Hershey's bar, with a cup of really hot tea, followed by a cool cloth for my eyes and a short nap. Don't know if that would even be an option for your son.
With some kids you can make a game of the "breathe in a paper lunch sack" trick.
Hope he feels better soon!

Ya'll don't be so wigged out!!
Half the fun of living in this RV is seeing
"What I can deal with!'"
It is TRAINING!!! Don't you think we will ALL have to deal with something like this in the upcoming years?? I DO.
I consider ALL I have been through in my life TRAINING!!

If not in THIS world, then maybe GOD has a purpose for me later. I believe we will ALL have "work" in heaven. Personally, I hope I am allowed to be a shepherdess. Caring for the sheep there.....and yes, I believe also there will be animals....of all kinds....except for snakes, spiders, fleas, ticks and mosquitoes!!

Anyway....NO MORE LONG FACES when I relate my daring adventures!!
I am PROUD of what I can do and what I can SURVIVE!!

I will admit that today about noon, my feet were STILL so cold, even after using foot warmers, that I got my electric blanket out of the closet and Danny and I crawled under and got TOASTY WARM!! It is bearable in here now, the sunshine has warmed it up to around 50*. Shortly I have to go check on all the animals and make sure everyone has food and water. Then I will be freezing again, and will GLADLY get under my electric blanket again!!!

A lot of last night was seeing if I could do it. I can and I don't even think I am going to get sick. The whole secret is keeping your HEAD WARM. I wore a fur lined hoodie to bed and kept the hood on all night. Works like a charm!!

Take care one and all.....
and ENJOY EVERY MOMENT!!

He likes chocolate, and he's had some. But I turned the heated blanket back on without remembering that we had a power blink. So on at 5, and he crashed. I think between the meds, the chocolate cupcake, and the very warm bed, he's getting the sleep he needs.

I'm going to leave the blanket that warm tonight. He can shove it to the side if he wants to.

Yes. Lol

I am in pain and exhausted, but so thankful to be home and that it’s done. Pain is a part of the process.
Im still asking for prayers that the pathology report comes back benign. :rs:
ABSOLUTELY you have my prayers.....praying that the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, MAKER AND CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE AND ALL IN IT, will bend down and soothe your pain, that HE will touch you in every hurt place and hold you close to HIS heart as HE whispers over you and restores you to health and vitality!!!!! AND......that you have ONLY benign tissue, that will quickly heal!

Briches, that is good news. Now be careful.

Body and brain are in go mode. So two new "tubes" for my son. Dang if poly lycra isn't slippery. But he now has two of them on. Given that I have 3 layers on, it's probably the cold.

Tomorrow I'll get his sides made. I made a few things today. One was a frozen white chocolate pie. Dang that turned put sweeter than I expected. I think I'll leave the extra sweetener out next time. And I add vanilla bean. I think when I make the keto chocolate cupcake version, I'm going to add a bit of peppermint.

I may start on a late Xmas gift tomorrow. Another double mitt oven glove. I ordered jelly roll pieces for this one. I'm torn over doing 1" or 2". But I'm leaning toward 2" for my sanity.

Almost froze my pipes. Forgot to set the sink back to dripping after a load of dishes. Took a minute to get full flow back. Won't be doing that again.

Chili tasted sooo good.

Started prepping the grocery lists for end of next week. Ground turkey has over doubled in price. Not good. Going to investigate a new bulk store and see what theirs is like. And see about starting to use ground pork. I can buy it bulk for less than the ground turkey. I'll have to go back to doing 1 lb freezer bags. Grateful to my younger self for buying so many pre-sized vacseal bags when I found a good price last year.

I'm thinking it's a night for an early bed time.

Ioujc....you are such a Rockstar! I want to be just like you when I grow up. Your persistence and perseverance are such an example to me.

It has been a less than perfect day...really tired from chemo yesterday. I received a box from someone on here that had a bunch of lovely presents for me. There is such a generous kind loving group of people on here....I am just overwhelmed by the awesomeness of all of you.

What a way to wake up. First it was at 5 am from being way too hot. Yup. I forgot to check the setting on my heated blanket.
Then I couldn't fall asleep but at the same time, the brain didn't want to be awake. So I was in that weird twilight zone for a bit. I finally drifted back off only to wake up with the UPSs going off at 6:30 am. Rolling blackouts. Just adapting and rolling with it for the day.

The power went out in the early morning hours and stayed off for about 2 1/2 hours so the pipes froze. The blower for the wood stove doesn't work without electricity or we would have been ok. It's not supposed to warm up until Monday and I hope I don't have to go begging water for the livestock from the neighbors. I have water stored, but not several hundred gallons. :shk:

I would expect that the neighbors would understand, and help if they're not in the same boat. It's just one of those things.

I’ve been totally lazy so far today but I’ve got to get moving soon.

Code red called to announce we were going to have rolling blackouts today and woke me up. Decided I wasn’t going to get back to sleep so I’ve been sipping coffee and reading online. Our county’s electric system Facebook page has been taking a beating the past few days over the blackouts even though it’s no fault of theirs. The STUPIDITY and ENTITLEMENT in my county is mind blowing. I just got another call from code red to expect a blackout in the next 30 minutes. Fortunately we have a generator so we’re ok.

Yesterday, DH made a fruit cake and I made 4 loaves of pumpkin bread. I also made yogurt this week, I’ll add fruit and flavoring to some of it in the next day or so.

The family are supposed to come over late this afternoon for supper and gifts. I have a few last minute things to get done before they get here but I’m not planning on doing much, just too tired out.

I am sorry to hear of your water troubles, Marseydoats; hope things warm up sooner.

The temp made it above zero this morning!! Only one degree so far, but I'll take what I can get!

It was still dark out when I woke up, so I decided to just stay snuggled up in my bed and read for a bit - and then saw that the the time on my tablet said 00:02. After working night shift most of my adult life, it may take me a while to get used to 'normal people' time  I did manage to fall back asleep after a while, and didn't wake up again until nearly 6am; maybe I'm starting to catch up on sleep after all those years... Hubby just got up a bit ago; he has to get up around 4:30 for the job he recently started so is taking advantage of having today off to get a little extra sleep.

The coffee has been made and the outdoor cats fed; I'll head downstairs to take care of the inside cats and get a load of laundry going once Hubby brings his down to the main floor; no sense making two trips since my knees aren't loving this weather much anyway. I had carried the laundry down to the utility room over the past few days, but held off doing any of it due to the cold temps; no sense in tempting fate with frozen lines drains when you don't have to.

I don't have anything on my have-to-do list today other than going to daughter's house for Christmas Eve; she's having carry out pizza, which works out fine for me! If they are still open when we get to town, I may stop and pick up a DQ ice cream cake for dessert.

I got a pleasant surprise yesterday; daughter stopped by to get the gift I'd picked up for her earlier in the week; she had oldest grandson's girlfriend with her. Daughter went down to the store room to grab some TP and Paper towels, and I heard her say "Oh wow! I'm coming here if there is a zombie apocalypse!" I knew there was something I liked about that young lady - well, besides the fact that she tolerates the grandson, of course...

Well, I'm not getting much of anything done and it's already past 0900, so I reckon I'd better get up and get moving!

Take care all; stay safe out there!!

I am being careful and have nowhere to be and nothing I have to do. Hubby has a fire going in the wood stove and is waiting on me hand and foot. I am taking my vitamins, drinking fluids and making myself get up and move at least hourly even though I don’t feel like it.

Well, we made it another night in the "deep freeze" without our water freezing up, thank God. I have a lot of cooking to do today, and without water, it would be hard, but not impossible. Not as cold today with our high going all the way up to 27, and the wind chill won't be so much, since the wind has died down a bit. It's supposed to warm back up into the upper 60's next week, which is good, because I have a doctor's appointment, Wednesday. Even taking the low dose of BP med's, my BP is still too high, 153/93, and that's the average. I pray that nothing is seriously wrong. High BP runs on my dad's side of the family.

DS texted Cary this morning, early, and told us he had killed another deer. This makes two for him, so far. He didn't mention anything about Christmas.

I've got to go get started on the pecan pie. I want it out of the way, before I start mixing up and baking the chicken dressing. Pumpkin pie is already made. Giblet gravy for the dressing, along with deviled eggs, home canned purple hull peas, potatoes, and dinner rolls will be made in the morning. Dressing will just have to be warmed a bit, before we eat. I was going to also bake a half ham, but I decided the chicken dressing would be enough for me and Cary. I plan to bake it for New Year's, since we'll probably be by ourselves again then, too.

I had planned to have Mom come over for Christmas dinner, but youngest DS showed up unexpectedly. He won't come, so she won't leave him alone. They are both going to my nieces to spend Christmas with her and her family, plus her brother (nephew) is flying in from Colorado. Niece has Mom's only great grandchildren, and 4 at that. The youngest will be a year old in January.

Laughing at myself. I have cold water in the laundry room and the bathroom, but not the kitchen. And since the water enters the house directly under the kitchen, the problem is likely to be at the base of the cabinet. All I can do is keep the water dripping. At some point I'll hear the water in the kitchen start pouring out and that will be my sign that I have cold water back in there.

You might be able to hurry the water up with a space heater in front of the open cabinet doors or a hairdryer aimed at the frozen pipe...if you need the water quicker
I'm good as long as I have cold water elsewhere. A pure hot water shower would not be good.
We actually reached 20 today. By tomorrow or Monday we should be back to normal temps.
Just a bit frustrated because I can't load the van early. There's been too many vehicle thefts lately for me to risk it. So I'll be up really early to load everything. Hopefully I can have son lay down and sleep for most of the trip. That will help keep his stress levels down.

Been a day. Not bad just busy. I'm about as ready as I can be to pack up and bug in the morning.
I made a list of what I need to grab so I don't forget stuff. That tamed the panic beast. I prepped the van for my son to be able to stretch out and sleep. I have two blankets to toss in the dryer so they'll be nice and warm for him.
Heck, even the mug for morning caffeine is prepped, only waiting for the hot water. The only thing I can't prep for is making my egg sandwiches for breakfast. But I should be able to handle that.
And I gambled. I tend to seriously overheat if I layer. But I was tired of being cold. So I have 3 layers on. I am finally warm from head to toe.
If you have any to spare, wing a few prayers upwards for a peaceful and calm day for us tomorrow. It would be nice.

Praying for safe travels Kyrsyan! Cold temps here but no real troubles. No frozen pipes or animal troubles. BIL spent the day with us and we worked on prepping the oranges for ambrosia. Sherree may you have a peaceful holiday despite family issues. I think we can all share in that situation. All is calm and all is bright everyone despite appearances! Merry Christmas.

Prayers up for your trip kyrsyan.

We celebrated with the kids and grandkids this afternoon and evening. Good food, great company and although there were plenty of choices of drink, even an adult beverage that was hot apple cider with a shot of fireball whiskey (too sweet for me in both flavor and sugar) plain old coffee with a bit of regular cream hit the spot with me. DH did steaks on the grill, salad, fancy mashed potatoes, rolls, pumpkin bread, fruit cake, cookies, candy, sausage balls, and the hostess may have forgot to put the cranberry delight out.

Everyone seemed to like and appreciate the gifts we gave them. I laughed really hard at 13 yr old grandson opening one gift and seeing his expression when he spotted the My Pillow sheets and started cracking up laughing. They matched very well with the comforter he asked for for his new room. Little granddaughter didn’t know what to play with first since she got several gifts from DH and I, then our other daughter that has no children, spoils them all.

Tomorrow will be a resting up day for me. DH has said he’s taking the tree down tomorrow, works for me!

Merry Christmas to each of you.

I'm on the last gift. This one is being temperamental. My brother can no longer have sugar. And he absolutely hates stevia with an unreasonable level.

So I got Swerve so I could try cowboy candy for him. Mom got In the Raw's blend and loves it, and canned successfully with it. But it's got stevia. He liked it until he discovered that.

The Swerve keeps crystallizing. So I'm heating it one last time. The peppers are going in the dehydrator. The syrup will then be spread on silicon sheets. I'll flavor test the crystals when they reform. If they taste good, he'll get a form of Cowboy rock candy. And the dehydrated peppers to snack on or cook with.

If it all fails, I'll say frag it and get him a gift card to Duluth Trading because he loves their clothes.

Christmas dinner is ham. That sent me scurrying to find an uncured ham for my son. Today I opened it an repacked it. One batch for dinner tonight. One double batch to travel with us for Christmas. 3 sets for dinner through the year. And a ham hock to become soup in a few weeks.

I would have used one of the unbrined ones in the freezer but I need more than a week's notice. It's a week to defrost and at least a week in brine. Ah well. There are plans to make the brine and rebag the frozen cuts with the brine. That way I can just pull and defrost.

Dinner tonight is ham and baked veggies.

I finally got the back/kidney pain to back off so I'm feeling better. Here's hoping those scans next week reveal the problem. The scans last week say the migraine is a migraine. No signs of stroke at all. Nothing showed on the EEG except that I can be phenomenally chill even when awake. Carotid and Brain study show all blood pathways working correctly. And mild, age related, stenosis. I'll have to look and see if there are some foods/herbs that can help with that.
This is coming WAY too late to be helpful. But Swerve is basically just erythritol with some added ingredients. You can get it in powdered and brown sugar (maybe one of those would work better for your application), but you can also order plain erythritol with no additions that might make a difference.

I hope it all worked out for you! :chg:

I think the erythritol is the problem. It recrystallizes when not dilute enough. And the cowboy candy needed too much sweetener to dilute it enough.
I'll use Mom's In the Raw mix next time. That doesn't recrystallize, or hasn't for her. It's going to take some experimenting.
Merry Christmas to all
Merry Christmas to everyone. I hope you all have a good day.

Beginning day 3 with no water. We have our own well and the problem seems to be at the well head or in the well house in spite of having heat lamps on everything. It's supposed to get into the upper 20's today. Although that is not quite up to the freezing point, maybe it will help some as long as the sun stays out. Back to the old timey ways of heating stored water to wash everything.

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
As my CHRISTmas greeting to ALL of you, I would like to use your imagination. Please be patient and forgiving, I don't have anything but this phone, and can't find any place that I can write and correct a text file on this thing.

Let's take our imagination on a little trip to that very first CHRISTmas.....

So, the day had been nothing special for Hannah, she had been out in the fields with the flock of sheep her father kept. Since there were no male children in the family, at 9 years old her father had given her the sole responsibility for taking care of the flock. Previously he had taken her with him since the age of 5 to teach her the needs and demands of caring for the animals. In addition to her guardianship of the sheep, there were also 4 huge dogs that helped her guard and alerted her to any danger. As well, there was a stout donkey that was allowed to circulate amount the sheep, but for the most part had been trained to stay close to her to protect the sheep, but also to be available should she need to ride to safety, or to require back-up to the dogs or her own defenses of staff, and a sling and a mace, which she was still learning to use. The muscles in her arms were only beginning to be able to swing the mace or rotate the ball on the end, when she would rotate it above her head, as her father had taught her.

In the field, near her, there were deer and other animals, including some that were quite ferocious. There were large wolves and even the occasional lion, though those were rare this close to the village. The bears, who were also very dangerous were hibernating, so she was at least spared that concern. She watched, as several deer came forward and wound their way through the herd toward the spring that flowed and the clear fresh water where Hannah had settled for the past few days, allowing the sheep to graze and drink in this lush field.
The deer were used to the presence of Hannah and the sheep, so they readily approached and nibbled on the bushes growing by the spring. Hannah also sensed the presence of a wolf, at least one, and the dogs began to growl and warn the creature away from their charges of fluffy sheep. Yet, still the predator skunk on the far outskirts of the meadow, staying within the trees that grew on the hill.

She pulled her robe and furs around her more tightly as she lay on the ground beneath a thorn tree. It was cold tonight, and she had trouble keeping her eyes open because she was so sleepy.... To combat this sleepiness, she built the fire up, but that didn't help, because she got warm and her eyes just could not stay open! She was soon sleeping in a light slumber, which would allow her to awaken if there was any trouble.

As she slept, a huge and very bright star rose on the horizon in the east. She was awakened by the light, but also by voices. Strangely enough, she was also hearing singing. She would often sing to her sheep, but she had never heard voices like these. They were beyond any beauty she had ever heard. As her eyes cleared from the crust of sleep, she rubbed them again, as there also looked to be some kind of people in the air above her and that is who was singing!!

Frightened by what appeared to be some kind of people who were in the air above the Earth, Hannah drew the furs she wore over her head to hide from these strange beings.
