Trump says he would vote for a gay president

President Donald Trump said in an interview Thursday that he would be open to voting for a gay candidate for president.

"Would Americans vote for a gay man to be president?" Fox News journalist Geraldo Rivera asked 40 minutes into an episode of his podcast, "Roadkill With Geraldo."

"I think so," Trump said. "I think there would be some that wouldn't, and I wouldn't be among that group, to be honest with you."

"I think that it doesn't seem to be hurting Pete 'Boot-edge-edge,'" Trump said of the openly gay presidential contender, slowly using the phonetic pronunciation of the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor's Maltese surname.

"But there would certainly be a group," the president repeated, "that probably wouldn't. But you and I would not be in that group."

"We would not," Rivera responded.

Trump has lots of company: A 2019 Gallup poll found that 76 percent of Americans would vote for a gay or lesbian presidential candidate — just behind the 80 percent who said they would vote for an evangelical Christian. Other groups are rated as more acceptable: Over 90 percent of Americans said they would vote for a black, Catholic, Hispanic, female or Jewish candidate.

But there are groups less popular for electoral politics than gay people: Muslims, atheists, socialists, people over 70 and people under 40 (a group that includes Buttigieg, 38).

When Gallup began asking Americans about their willingness to vote for a gay or lesbian presidential candidate in 1978, just 26 percent said "yes."

Last May, though, Trump complained on Twitter that Fox News was "wasting airtime on Mayor Pete."

In that same thread, Trump made a prediction about Buttigieg, whom he referred to using the name of the iconic Mad magazine cover boy: "Alfred E. Newman will never be President!"

By December, however, Trump appeared to marvel at Buttigieg's unexpected success: "Can you believe he is doing well, he is like the leading fundraiser," he said of Buttigieg during a 90-minute rally in Hershey, Pennsylvania. "I dream about him, it's true."

Meh. Methinks Trump will have a challenge to find a right-wing homosexual willing to run and put up with a term full of crap from the MEEDIA?

I mean, stack the percentages...

Plus - being homosexual will be TOTALLY OUTWEIGHED by his rightist inclinations. Right Wing is like having Leprosy to the MEEDIA.

I would vote for anyone with a plan to balance the budget, pay down the national debt, keep us out of unnecessary wars and keep the economy strong. I could care less what they do in their spare time.
You just specified the disease that outdoes Homosexuality in MEEDIA Presidential condemnation.

Now if this were a MARXIST Homosexual like Buttigieg, the MEEDIA will be ga-ga.

The MEEDIA ARE ga-ga.

I think it was Martin Luther who once said, “I’d rather be ruled by a competent Turk, than an incompetent Christian.”

Maybe someone can correct me, but I believe Luther’s meaning was that as long as the king was a just, good, and wise king, it’s better than a corrupt, evil, foolish king that claims to be a Christian.

King Cyrus the Great freed the Israelites, returned their Temple gold and treasures, and let them go back to Judah...he even funded the rebuilding of the fallen city.

So, I think the idea is, who would you vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton ( a ‘Christian) or a just, fair, and wise President who was gay?

Besides, Lincoln was a homo and he’s still one the most beloved of US Presidents!

Neither here nor there.

There were several US presidents that were gay or at the very least bisexual.

As I think others have stated, the chances of an openly gay president being anything other than a leftist in today's environment are pretty small. Wouldn't discount the possibility of a more conservative (relatively) gay president, but it's hard to envision. I think Trump can discern this, and he was only saying the person's being gay would not by itself disqualify him in his eyes. Being a socialist probably would, however.

I think I can...
I personally would have no problem with a gay president *in theory.* If his platform, policies, and ability were positive, his personal inclinations would be irrelevant to me. However, even if that were true, I think it would have a negative impact on U.S. foreign relations, as many cultures really do have a problem with homosexuality and would not respect us. I worried about the same thing having a black president (which I also have no problem with in theory), but since he went around apologizing and turning the U.S. into a doormat, I guess they liked him all right. Respected, not so sure.

DJT voted Dhimmicrat for a long time, IIRC.

If I remember correctly, President Trump has been a registered Republican for many decades. There was something posted on TB quite awhile back (that I don't know if I could ever find) that showed his voting record.

Homosexuality should not be supported by anyone.

I have a gay uncle and my dh has a gay cousin, so I've had to personally deal with what I believe about homosexuality in terms of my Christianity. There will always be gay family and friends, and we can't just turn our backs on them. My mother turned her back on her brother and it hurt their relationship to the end. In essence, she condemned him and it was not her job to do so. God tells us to love everyone, or as I grew up learning, "hate the sin, love the sinner." So what I came up with is that I cannot CONDEMN them (as it's not my job), but I don't CONDONE their lifestyle. I love them, but in my ways I let them know I don't support the way they are living, according to my faith in God and His holy word.

So, you're right, we shouldn't support the act, but we still have to love and live with the person.

I agree with everything you said. I, also, have a family member who is gay. I love him dearly, and we get along great. At the same time, being a Christian, I can not vote for a gay person for the president of this country.

Well this all depends on if one is a bible believing christian or not. If not then have at it. But if you claim to be then I would pay attention to the last words in Romans ch 1 that deals with this matter.

"Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them."

These days I really don't think there are many bible believing Christians left. It seems that everyone has made there own code. And it seems to me that if the bible is crap then then there really is no basis for Christianity to even exist because anything we know about its existence came from that bible.

Thank you, BornFree. As a Bible-believing Christian, I approve of this message.

TPTB are trying to get everyone in the mindset of accepting perversions and depravity, sin in general.

I have gotten infractions for posting a Scripture verse in a secular thread, and I believe that the last one was yesterday. I ask the mods to please not give BornFree an infraction here. It is not a secular thread here, anyway, I do not think. It is very much a spiritual issue.

Yeah, I guess if he had good policies and wasn't a closet communist, I'd consider a gay man. The problem is that those I know in politics have a desire to rule the world. On the other hand, I know some conservative gay couples that do nothing to call undue attention to themselves: they are gainfully employed and stay out of my business and I keep out of theirs. That's okay.

I agree with you. I still talk with my uncle and my dh's cousin, but I don't like at all how they live. I love them them but don't condone their lifestyle, and they know it. They know where I stand in my Christian beliefs.

I also would not vote for a gay person for president of our country. Not at all! If I knew a person was gay, I don't think I'd vote for him/her for any office - national, state, local. I've always felt that most/many of the people who get into political office get corrupted which leads to them wanting more power and being more corrupted. So, I guess you'd say that, with only a few exceptions (President Trump being the biggest one), I don't trust people in any political office, especially people who have an agenda to push, like LBTQXYZ or socialism, etc.

I don't accept their perversions, but it's not my job to judge them, it's God's job. He will judge them when the time comes and they will answer to Him alone. I'm told to love everyone and to pray for everyone, even my "enemies." So, I do the best I can. If we don't love and pray for these LBTQXYZ people and others with other perversions, they will only have bad impressions of Christians and won't listen to us. If we love and pray for them, then maybe their hearts will soften and they will listen to God telling them that the life they have chosen is wrong and they need to repent, change, and walk with Him.

I would be more concerned about him being a communist than being gay. His father was a communist college professor. Since Pete hasn't come out as one, I would never vote for him were I stupid enough to be a democrat. I think his communist bent would come out in the Oval Office if he were ever elected.
