Owner's Dad when he was alive suffered several bouts with Kidney stones. Owner tells of one episode which happened while the two of them were cutting wood - and the Dad was using the chain saw.

Owner was fairly young and quite shocked at the sight of his Dad writhing in pain at the base of a stone wall.

No ambulance that day but the Dad had previous "sessions" and knew what the origin was.

The Dad's issue was eventually traced back to the glass of cranberry juice he frequently took as a substitute for beer, wine, or soda each day. Owner's narrative is that finally, a stone was "caught" in the strainer, examined, and it gave a clue as to the chemical imbalance which in his Dad was creating the stone. Cranberry became few and far between for Dad.

Owner has never suffered from the ailment, but Cranberry juice is a "Thanksgiving" sort of liquid to him.

You need to capture the stone and have analyzed and then your doctor can provide you dietary guidelines as to what you should avoid. I have a three part list (1) low or no oxalate foods (2) moderate (3) high/bad. For me cranberry juice is in the moderate area with 4 oz. per day the allowed amount. Milk is low or no, coffee moderate with limit of 8 oz. per day. Tea and cocoa are bad. Water, water and more water is the best solution. There is no one answer as there are different types of stones.

For those who shouldn't use cranberry juice die to stone issues, you can take D-mannose. Its a supplement that makes the bladder walls "less sticky", preventing infections from getting established.

It opens up the pathways from the kidneys all the way out. Any doctor should prescribe a bottle of this medicine to anyone that has kidney stones.

ETA......Sorry, I didn't realize this was an old thread. I just got up for work and only on the first cup of coffee.
