I only make this suggestion because it's a weekend and you may have time to fiddle with it. You're the only one who can do it, I have the time to waste right now but not the ADMIN access you need to be able to delete posts. And I don't know if you have the ability to do as I suggest, let alone have the time, but if you are the curious sort, this will help you get to the root of the issue.
Go into page 2 of the thread on your desktop, with your ipad next to you. Start deleting one post with a tweet at a time and check your ipad page each time, if it is still freezing up, that post is not the culprit. Put the post back and delete the next tweet post. Go down the page until the one you delete stops freezing up your page. Voila. Once you find the offending tweet, go to that tweet on your desktop and see if it is a tweet with a video script running (which I suspect it is). If that's what it turns out to be, let people know not to post a hotlink to any tweets with videos.
If the software doesn't allow you to delete posts and put them back.... can you save a duplicate of the thread somewhere in a backroom as a backup (????) and fool around on the duplicated thread deleting posts one at a time until you find the issue. Once you figure out the post causing the problem, delete that one post on the original thread on MAIN. (or break up the hotlink on the thread so that it doesn't connect to twitter but leaves the text that poster posted).
