Gasparino: Milo Yiannopoulos' resignation was a business decision

FBN's Charlie Gasparino on Milo Yiannopoulos' resignation from Breitbart News Network amid his controversial comments regarding underage sex and what's next for his career.

Liberals who have long considered Milo Yiannopoulos the embodiment of the true racist nature of modern conservatism are having a schadenfreude moment over his latest controversy (this time on the subject of underage sex) that has now led to his ouster from Breitbart News, a publication that long supported and endorsed his provocative and sometimes tasteless brand of commentary.

Let’s be clear: There is no “teachable moment” about modern conservativism that can be gleaned from Milo’s shocking discourse, or his current implosion. He never really embodied any political movement other than one that sought his own self-aggrandizement as a way to undress some of the absurd pieties of political correctness. Indeed, his shtick was shunned by much of the conservative movement even if he spent plenty time attacking Liberal pieties involving race, immigration and gender.

No, the lesson that can be gleaned here is one about the left, which through its fundamentalist orthodoxy, known as political correctness, created a vacuum of Conservative thought in our cultural establishments including much of the mainstream media, and of course in academia.

Milo in all his outrageousness became the voice of opposition, or at least the one that sucked the most air out of the room.

Conservatives have long complained about being denied access to university lectures (or when they were invited to speak, being shouted down by left-wing agitators), the creepy Stalinist nature of speech codes in various cultural institutions (ie academia but also the media, and the arts) not to mention the obviously left-wing slanted coverage of news.

In his dystopian classic “1984,” George Orwell may not have totally predicted the insanity and totalitarianism sweeping our cultural institutions, but he came pretty close. After years of excoriating conservatives as bigots and troglodytes for believing in such "hot button" issues as low taxes and of course the teaching of Western civilization, the left has nullified the true meaning of racism and many other "isms" to include anything that deviates from their stated orthodoxy.

A swastika painted on a building is clearly a police matter and should never be tolerated. But at the University of Missouri (my alma mater) such an incident led to weeks of protests, hunger strikes and the resignation of the university’s president for a reason that no one can fully articulate. After the election of President Donald Trump, a Yale professor allowed students to skip an exam so they could grieve.

All of which gave Milo his opening. He may or may not believe the crazy stuff he often says (I’m not going to catalogue the litany, which is easy to look up) in his columns at Breitbart News, or his many speaking engagements. But he knew how to get under the skin of the totalitarian left and as his adversaries went low, Milo went lower on those taboo issues such as race, immigration and a lot more.

The left ridiculed religious conservatives, who believed that marriage is between a man and a woman, as bigots. Milo, as a gay man, once wrote on his Facebook page that “Gay marriage is not a ‘civil rights’ struggle. Stop comparing gays and blacks. When gay men are slaves it’s because we begged to be.”

And with that he developed a following, not just among the so-called alt-right fringe variety but also among many college kids who actually saw his outrageousness as the lesser-of-two evils. Here was a gay man, unafraid to speak his mind and make outrageous comments on issues the left and their cowered university administrators deemed too taboo to dissent on.

Again, Milo didn’t debate the corrosive effect of political correctness as I would, or for that fact most right-of-center commentators would, with his truly shocking and at times sickening comments. But in this climate, with leftist gatekeepers oppressing language and culture, and creating an atmosphere where words and actions on certain issues have lost all meaning, he found an audience, and a degree of fame, which was probably his goal all along.

Full disclosure: I know Milo pretty well, and I like him. I certainly don’t condone his statements about underage sex, which he says have been taken out of context. In private meetings, he’s less bombastic and far less offensive than the performance art that appears on the pages of Breitbart or in interviews, like the one that has now threatened to totally unravel his career (as reported CPAC has rescinded his speaking invite scheduled for this weekend, Simon & Shuster has ditched his book deal, and as FOX Business was first to report, he was forced to resign from Breitbart News).

But make no mistake, there would be no Milo without the Orwellian left that controls much of popular culture, making it impossible to have a civilized discussion about certain issues. Milo is a product of run-away leftism that has perverted discourse to the point where words have lost much of their meaning, and has allowed a reckless provocateur to step into the void.

George Orwell is looking down saying “I told you so” with a tear in his eye.

Milo was and continues to be a threat to the leftist agenda. They couldn't label him without damage. Pedophile was the only label they could even attempt to attach to him. It is one that offends the right and the left if not so much. They couldn't call him homophobic because he is gay. They couldn't call him a NAZI or Fascist because he is of Jewish decent. They couldn't call him racist or white supremacist because his partners were black. Misogynistic and patriarchy didn't stick because he claimed they were excuses feminists used to rob women of the ability to succeed or fail on their own, to take full responsibility for their own lives.

So what was left? "Pedophile!". To bad Milo took responsibility for and apologized for any hurt his words caused specifically to those hurt by this crime which also directly effected his life and walk with God. To bad his words were taken out of context and the left sat on the clips for over a year. He took the high road. He was the adult. This leaves the left to again be so much noise in an echo chamber. The left has conveniently made Milo some what of a celebrity and house hold name in the process. He will use that to his advantage.

IMO Milo has outgrown Breitbart. It was time for him to move on. The left may have just unleashed an attack dog they can't fight.

imho, Milo's gift is getting people to expose who they really are and how they really think.

He's a fence sweeper.

I disagree with much of his lifestyle and delivery. But he is doing something no one else is even trying to do for millenials - teach them how to critically think. And then communicate that.

So we throw in the trash the guy who wants to try to save millenials of the evils of thoughtlessness and marxist indoctrination?

We aren't going to get critical thinkers from that generation if all we want to do is abandon them at every possible turn.

Like it or not that generation is going to hold the reins of power someday.

As for Milo, I hope he gets his life turned around, dusts himself off, and gets back to keep on keepin' on.

They have done their worst to him. If he can get it together and stand up again there will be no better champion to step on the soapbox to call out double standards.

That complete asshat bill maher has said worse than Milo.

Why isn't he the object of ridicule? Where's the msm hysteria? Why isn't his career over?

No better person than Milo to call out the double standard.

Especially as the global pedo rings are being unraveled.

It looks like he has taken a page or two out of President Trump's book and is getting really good at turning the left's tactics to his advantage. The riots at his talks back fired on the left and if he plays it right so will this.

What it did was show the entire state, nation and world the true face of the "Progressives".

For us here in CA we've seen these levels of "protests" reporting often drop down to a quick noting on the local news and then transition to sports on the evening TV news, the frequency of these temper tantrums being what they have been.

I definitely get the impression that's what they are building toward and what they completely desire. I wish I knew the population percentages involved in all this, but I don't. I do believe this is a neocommunist agenda at work however, and there is a significant likelihood of large scale violence resulting from it.

If you were part of management at Breitbart, would you want to be in the position of appearing to condone Milo's remarks in reference to pedophilia?

I know I wouldn't, and I can't think of any competent executive who would.

Milo is an interesting fellow, but once these remarks became public, he became so toxic that Breitbart really had no choice but to sever ties.

Breitbart did not "sever ties" with Milo. Milo Yiannopoulos resigned from Breitbart and thanked them for their continued support. In one interview I think he thanked and praised staff members individually.

You might want to check out what is being said on youtube by millennial conservatives. At CPAC there was an informal interview pole taken. The millennials interviewed did not believe that Milo was a pedophile, some were rather strong in stating that belief. That is why the left is afraid of him. They tagged Milo with their strongest, vilest, nastiest label and at the moment it does not look like it is getting much traction. He gets past this, with the new recognition the leftist publicity has not so kindly provided he will be even more dangerous to their efforts.

The left got used to calling their enemies names and laughing as they retreated in confusion and denial. That is no longer happening. The left is having trouble adapting. Their arsenal is running out of ammunition. It looks like their ammo can is down to two options: violence and social disruption. They lack the facts, moral high ground and numbers for anything else. Not all millennials are gulliblly swallowing legacy media propaganda. There are some willingly making the effort to find the truth and develop the critical thinking skills necessary to use it. That number is growing. Milo is helping by cultivating and guiding their efforts.

I don't agree with his lifestyle or his mouth a lot of the times. I think that much of it is his shtick, playing to the audience and age group at hand.

You have to ask; "Who dose the left have to counter this guy?". Amy Schumer? Leslie Jones? Given their mental acuity, verbal skills and grounding in facts does anyone here think that would be anything close to a fair fight?

More often than not, you are the voice of reason, but Dozdoats, you are wrong here.
I have serious issues with some of Milo's choices (Stephan Molyneux has a good video on the matter, I'll leave it at that).

Milo forced Millennials to confront many positions and the tidy MSM dichotomy they had been spoon fed, and never thought to question. He helped elect Trump. Generation Z is reportedly conservative, and I expect he's influenced them too.

Milo still needs to get right in the head (and, I couldn't care less that he's gay), but I hope he gets over this, comes back strong, and I hope he hasn't lost any of his daring and charming moxie.

Yeah...I'm thinking Milo's decision to exit was the result of upper management telling him, "You may want to consider having your resignation on my desk in one hour." And I'm sure he was gracious about tendering his resignation. He knew exactly why it had to be done, and that was why he did so willingly.

I'm not saying that Milo doesn't reach a lot of people; there's no question that he does. But Breitbart afforded Milo the primary platform by which he was able to reach his audience. Using that platform, he made his reputation straddling the line between meaningful commentary and a questionable level of depravity, entertaining though it might have been. Until a week ago, Breitbart probably viewed him as a project entailing a high, but acceptable level of risk by professional association. Given how close to the edge Milo was most of the time, it would not have taken much to cause Breitbart to pull the plug on what they already viewed as a high-risk venture.

What would be "too much," in this case? For Milo, all it took was somebody producing comments made by him in the past that could be construed as condoning homosexual pedophilia. Note that it didn't take any evidence that Milo had engaged in such behavior; and if there is any such evidence, I have not seen it. But from a PR standpoint, it's one thing to have a militant homosexual as your most highly visible celebrity. It's quite another if that same person has been revealed to have made comments that appear to justify or normalize homosexual pedophilia.

Once those remarks became public, the management at Breitbart really had no choice but to ask for his resignation. And Milo really had no choice but to comply; if he had refused to do so, then he would have been in the unfortunate position of being viewed as defending behavior which is patently illegal at best. At worst, his remarks could be viewed by an overwhelmingly majority of the population as just plain disgusting. I can't think of any businesses that rely on the goodwill of the public (which is most of them) that would be willing to risk the adverse publicity that would result from maintaining the relationship with Milo, given the nature of these newly revealed comments.

Those remarks reduced Milo to the status of damaged goods, at least for the time being. He knows it, and so does Breitbart. Milo may be able to rehabilitate his reputation, but the usual approach to achieve that is to get out of the public eye for a couple of years and letting the events fade from public memory. That's something I have trouble seeing Milo doing, frankly.

Anyway, it isn't really so much what Milo's fans think that counts here, in terms of whether Milo stays at Breitbart or not.

What really counts is what the organization providing him his platform thinks about it. In the final analysis, Breitbart had to decide that they weren't going to assume any further organizational risk on Milo's account.

I'd kind of missed out the whole Milo thing until right around the election. He's very hard to listen to because of that mouth...but it is worth the listening and I've learned how to ignore the dross for the gold. He does indeed have the ear of the younger people and I like a lot of what he has to say and am glad when he has the opportunity. He is smart, quick-witted and pretty unflappable. Some interviews and panel discussions I've watched are a lot of fun actually because he has a lot of facts on hand to cause his opponents to sputter in dismay when they realize they've not anything to stand on but the usual, worn-out trite phrases. I do actually pray for the man and hope for the best for him and for him to continue to have a voice now and as he matures.

I am an old people. I think like an old person, and I do bitch....but not near as much as the young people who bitch more than I ever thought of bitching.

Back in the ancient old days, Milo would not have gotten where he is today, because those MEN of old would have knocked the snot out of him when he first opened his filthy rotten mouth.

I long for those old days when people had respect for the old as well as the young. A man (of the old days) would have not tolerated a man/woman like Milo in the presence of their woman....or children. But oh well....that kind-of old fashioned thinking can get you thrown out of certain places these days by the 'tolerant right.'

Liberals Get a Pass: 4 Times the Media Ignored Leftists’ Comments About Pedophilia

by Lucas Nolan 1 Mar 2017

Following the recent media firestorm around former Breitbart Senior Editor MILO, people have begun scrutinizing past similar comments and actions of liberal celebrities.

In the wake of MILO’s departure from Breitbart News, a number of instances have come to light where those on the left have discussed or joked openly about pedophilia. Unlike in MILO’s case, the media has been largely silent in response.

1: George Takei

In a 2006 interview on The Howard Stern Show, actor George Takei spoke about being molested by an 18-year-old camp counselor as a 13-year-old at summer camp. In the excerpt, what many seem to find most shocking about Takei’s comments is that he insists he wasn’t molested because he found the perpetrator “attractive.”

At 2:20 mark @GeorgeTakei promotes pedophilia with 13 year old boys to Howard Stern. #tcot #Milohttps://t.co/oEm2rGzLlZ

— John Cardillo (@johncardillo) February 21, 2017

George Takei Amazing how this doesn't trend. No liberal outrage! Nothing from #pizzahut or #tacobell

— gab.ai/03rkci (@HillaryNo1sPres) February 22, 2017

2: Bill Maher

HBO host and comedian Bill Maher can be seen in a clip from 1998 on Maher’s previous TV show Politically Incorrect defending an adult teacher who had sexual relations with her 12-year-old student. “Basically, they’re having a family and they’re keeping the mother in jail because she won’t conform to the perfect American family,” he says. Later in the clip, Maher asks, “How can a woman rape a man?”

if bill maher thinks sunlight is the best disinfectant then here's him saying the same shit as milo, that it's ok for adults to **** kids pic.twitter.com/tqPAzbGY3J

— warrior cop (@wyatt_privilege) February 22, 2017

In 2016 Maher once again defended the relationship between an adult and a minor when he called out “social justice warriors” for attacking a relationship between singer David Bowie and 15-year-old Lori Mattix. “If there’s a victim here, it’s the guy who had to **** Lori Mattix next,” said Maher. “How do you follow David Bowie in a kimono?”

3: Roman Polanksi

Roman Polanski, the acclaimed liberal director of films such as Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown, pled guilty to engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor after being accused of drugging and raping 13-year old Samantha Geimer in 1977. Polanski fled the United States before he could be sentenced and has been living in France ever since. Since then Hollywood celebrities such as Meryl Streep have openly defended Polanski, with Streep stating that she’s “very sorry that he’s in jail” and Polanski receiving a standing ovation from Hollywood stars following his Oscar win in absentia for Best Director for The Pianist.

4: Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham, writer and star of HBO TV show Girls, wrote in her memoir Not That Kind Of Girl of inappropriate sexual activity with her younger sister. Dunham writes in her autobiography of “casually masturbating” while in bed next to her younger sister and bribing her with “three pieces of candy if I could kiss her on the lips for five seconds… anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl I was trying.”

Dunham also spoke of touching her sister’s genitals, saying, “Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn’t resist,” Dunham wrote. “This was within the spectrum of things I did,” she added. Dunham also admitted to sharing the same bed with Grace until she was seventeen, and that sometimes she “slipped my hand into my underwear to figure some stuff out” while sleeping next to her.

Rather than experiencing outrage and anger from fans and the media for these actions, Dunham was instead invited to speak at the Democratic National Convention on the topic of women’s rights. At the DNC, Dunham introduced herself saying: “I am a pro-choice, feminist, sexual assault survivor with a chronic reproductive illness.”

We’re told the people behind a secret new media venture Milo will be working with have agreed in principle to file the necessary paperwork. It’s not a done deal yet, but as usual … Milo’s cocky confident he’ll close the deal.

This is good news. His is the one case where the left would support deportation. I want to see him make it through this whole situation, and come out ok, because that means the left has taken its best shot at him, and failed. The more they fail, the happier I am.

Neither here nor there.
But he is doing something no one else is even trying to do for millenials - teach them how to critically think. And then communicate that.

^^^ THIS! ABSOLUTELY!

ETA: Many here on TB are old people. They think like old people, act like old people, and bitch like old people. "Why, back in MY day..." is their favorite mantra. Well, it's NOT "your day" anymore, and never will be again, and all your bitching and whining won't make it happen. You NEED to support people like Milo who can GET THE CONSERVATIVE MESSAGE OUT TO THE YOUTH. Because you bunch of ancient farts, NO ONE IS GOING TO LISTEN TO **YOU**.

Get it?
Best advice I've seen here in a long time.
