The NRA goes all-out against Obama

Spurred on by President Obama's debate pledge to push for an assault weapons ban and possibly limits on handgun ownership, the National Rifle Association is ending the presidential campaign season with its most "targeted" election effort in its 141 years.

NRA officials told Secrets that they've expanded their campaign against Obama in some cases by over 500-times what the Second Amendment lobby did in the 2010 elections that brought the conservative Tea Party to Washington. An official said the effort was on par with what the NRA did in 2000 when George W. Bush edged Al Gore in the Electoral College in part because of an unexpected GOP swing in gun states.

While early into his administration Obama didn't seem a threat to gun-owners, thus making it difficult to assail the president on gun issues, the president over the past year has hinted support for restrictions and during a debate with GOP challenger Mitt Romney for the first time fully endorsed a renewed assault weapons ban and even raised the spectre of handgun controls.

That spurred a new round of online advertising by the NRA and increased efforts on the ground to warn gun owners that a second Obama term would see limits on weapons ownership and a potentially more liberal Supreme Court should Obama get another chance to appoint a justice.

NRA officials told Secrets that the group's lobbying arm, the powerful Institute for Legislative Action, has parked campaign field representatives in 13 battleground states since May where they are organizing the effort to defeat the president and anti-gun candidates.

So far, they have recruited 5,000 volunteers to make calls, walk precincts and make the NRAs case at gun shows, a key venue at the beginning of deer and goose season.

Among the key statistics from the NRA:

-- By Election Day, the NRA will have issued more than 50 million mailers, phone calls, and personal door-to-door visits, a 60 percent increase over 2010.

-- Online advertising will have totaled 320 million impressions on web pages opened by those surfing the internet, a 531 percent increase over 2010.

"This is our most focused, targeted and sophisticated effort to date," said a spokesman.

The NRA is quite aware that if O gets back in with a friendly Senate, we can kiss our gun rights goodbye. A new SCOTUS will see to that.

WTF has taken them so long? They should have been waging legislative warfare on The Dictator since he first took The Oath of Office- which he has NOT kept... Ted Nugent should be President of the NRA...

Sounds good. Possibly you could enlighten us what you mean by legislative warfare that would not use up all the NRA resources leaving none to throw O out of office.

Have you ever been to a local NRA meeting as a member?!

Trying to get them to change is like trying keep a bear awake during the winter.
These meetings are dominated by these old "hunter type" geezers who think that the 2nd Amendment is meant for protecting their hunting rights.
These clowns are still in most areas thinking like it is 1973--and don't have a clue as to why things are passing them by.

The arguments are always framed in "the gun-grabbers" this and the "gun grabbers" that and so on.
Bring up the fact of "law normalization" prior to country integration as they did in Europe prior to implementing the EU (as in North American Union), and they look upon you like you stepped off of a flying saucer.
I mean these people are just plain stupid and are unwilling to listen.

They have a set way of implementing public events and PR... which are all loosing methods.
The ILA does good work, but it needs to be backed up by a strong PR message, and this is where the NRA fails.

It should become a "civil rights" organization, not a "gun rights" organization... and excuse me, but isn't the 2nd Amendment a civil right?
So they should be acting like civil rights protestors and stop riding in the back of the bus.

For instance--a couple years ago there was an "open carry" rally on the banks of the Potomac.
And I think 10 1/2 people showed up despite some heavy publicity in the patriot world.

But did the NRA promote this?
Did they utilize their vast resources to pull out their membership in vast numbers?

Nope.
They were no where to be seen.

If they had alerted their membership--I would be you that 100,000 members would have shown up.
It would have been a thing to behold to see 100,000 open carrying people on the Potomac directly across from Washington DC.

This would have made the rats sweat and wonder.

But noooooooooo!

There has to be a vast shake up at the NRA--like the one they did back in the early 80's.
Back then they hired a new PR firm and did a make over of themselves.

This needs to happen again, and Wayne La Pierre has to go, and someone who does not look like a faggot Poindexter has to be put in.

This doesn't apply to citizens of Massachusetts.

Of course they have a targeted election trying to support and fight two "F" Grade candidates at the same time.

If you'd like an alternative to the NRA, particularly if you live in NC or the ajoining states, please consider Grass Roots NC, a rabid, no compromise bulldog of a gun rights group. www.grnc.org

They don't make deals with anybody, they call it like it really is. I never thought NC would get CCW or Castle doctrine, but this group got 'em both done. And working on more things for the future...

The NRA is truly CONflicted as to the state of Gun laws.

These guyz do much better when Barry, or a "gun grabber" like him is in office. People get all worked up at the thought of gun CONtrol and the funds flow freely.

They have the same CONflict of interest that the cancer causes have. If cancer is cured, what becomes of the "cause"?

The Kidney foundation is another one that's interesting. A study was done which advocated for the legalizeation of selling donor organs. Of course the Kidney foundation was appalled at the thought of such an idea. The Kidney foundations are funded by Davita who runs a huge chain of Dialysis ceners. They woud get crushed by the sudded availability of donor organs.

I agree 100% and would like to add:

ALL of BIG PHARMA and the cheap/natural/obvious (transplants) cure for anything.... I mean, case in point, we have 200%x how many kidneys we need i nthis world... this should've been a NON-issue as soon as transplants became reliably safe.... ONLY MONEY AND GREED OVER HUMAN LIFE IS OPPOSING THIS, or any BIG PHARMA/drug issue. If YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HIGH HEALTHCARE COSTS, lobbyist/govt racketeering maybe you should re-evaluate your stance on the governments involvement in people ingesting whateverthephucktheywant.

BIG OIL. No alternative energy will be allowed to thrive or get a foothold until they've exhausted all resources at trying to hold oil as #1... this don't mean they'll be successful... but tesla, Ford, and many others have been squashed, while many others were promoted just to fail (not viable ideas) just to make the idea seam futile. Energy is everywhere. Energy is everything. You can't have mass or weight or size without energy. there is ENDLESS ENERGY SURROUNDING US. How do we harness it? How do we unleash it?

The paradox you mention above is most evident in energy and pharma.
