It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.

The first movie is Mary Poppins. This 1964 classic stars Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, and David Tomlinson.

In Edwardian London's Cherry Tree Lane, yet another nanny resigns from keeping an eye on Mr Banks' boisterous children, Jane and Michael. But then, as if by magic, a new governess--the enchanting, Mary Poppins--lands on their doorstep to take control of the situation, as thrilling adventures along with the amazing chimney sweep, Bert, pave the way for a wonderful transformation. Will the charming Miss Poppins turn chaos into order?

The second movie is Point Blank. This 1967 crime thriller stars Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson, and Carroll O'Connor. If you saw the Mel Gibson movie Payback, it was a remake of this 1967 film. This has the first film appearance of the S&W model 29 .44 Magnum, several years before Dirty Harry.

- After being double-crossed and left for dead, a mysterious man named Walker single-mindedly tries to retrieve the money that was stolen from him.

Mal Reese owes a good deal of money to his organized crime bosses. He gets his friend Walker to join him in a heist. It goes off without a hitch but when Reese realizes the take isn't as large as he had hoped, he kills Walker - or so he thinks. Some time later, Walker decides the time has come to get his share of the money. He starts with his ex-wife Lynne who took up with Reese after the shooting. That leads him on a trail - to his wife's sister Chris, to Reese himself, then onto Big Stegmam, then Frederick Carter and on and up the line of gangsters all in an effort to get money from people who simply won't acknowledge that he's owed anything.

The third movie is Prizzi's Honor. This 1985 John Huston crime comedy stars Jack Nicholson, Kathleen Turner, and Robert Loggia.

Charley Partanna is a hit-man who works for the Prizzi's, one of the richest crime syndicate families in the country. Unbeknownst to Charley, the Prizzi's just hired Irene Walker, a free-lance killer, to eliminate someone who double-crossed them. When Irene and Charley fall in love their jobs become complicated. Their jobs become impossible when each is given a contract that neither can go through with.

The fourth movie is Inglorious Basterds. This 2009 war film stars Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, and Eli Roth. This is a Quentin Tarantino remake of a 1978 Italian film by the same name. This is a good movie (if you like the Tarantino style), but it is violent in parts, so no kids. If unsure about this movie, I recommend watching the trailer in post #8.

- In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theater owner's vengeful plans for the same.

During World War II, Lt. Aldo Raine leads his squad of Jewish-American soldiers behind enemy lines in Nazi occupied France. Their job is simple: kill the enemy. They also have a particularly violent approach to what they do. Soon they are known and feared throughout the German army. In Paris, Shosanna runs a cinema and through a chance meeting with a German war hero, is selected to host the premiere of one of Dr. Josef Goebbels propaganda film. With all of the German high command scheduled to attend - including Hitler, Goering and Martin Bormann - it seems like the ideal opportunity for Lt. Raine and his men to bring the war to a quick end. Shosanna, who is Jewish and whose parents and siblings were killed before her eyes, also has her own plans for the evening's festivities. When she realizes that the man who killed her family Colonel Hans Landa, known as the Jew Hunter, will also be there it makes her own plans complete.

The fifth movie is Five Minutes to Live. This 1961 crime drama stars Johnny Cash, Vic Tayback (Mel on Alice), and Ronnie Howard. The Man in Black is a very bad man in this film. It's not considered a very good film, but it stars Johnny Cash and is not commonly available. He was quite famous by 1961. He does sing a little in the film.

This film is about a suburban bank robbery that goes awry. In the simple plan, a hard-up hood, Johnny Cabot takes the wife of the bank's vice president hostage. Cabot will hold her until he gets a call alerting him that his partner Fred has been successful in getting the ransom money. At the bank, Fred talks his way into Ken Wilson's office intending that Wilson will withdraw the funds to pay the ransom for his wife. Then the plan falls apart...

The sixth movie is Oliver Twist. This 1948 classic is based on the Charles Dickens' novel. This is a high-quality, restored version of the 1948 film.

The immortal characters of Charles Dickens' classic novel, Oliver Twist...A penniless orphan in 17th century London - Poor but honest Oliver is fleeing the cruelty of the workhouse when he's forced into a band of young thieves headed by the notorious Fagin and the evil Bill Sikes. DAMN ! No other way to put it. Every single movie you put up here gets downloaded tonight. Every one is great-the Johnny Cash movie I've never seen, but heard about it. What a find!
Point Blank is a FANTASTIC crime thriller. Lee Marvin is a real bad a** in it, in a cool sort of way. Think he did the In like Flint movie in or around the same timeframe. Great actor and superb movie!
And Oliver Twist? Awesome. Just awesome.

As always, thank you!!!!!!! minister of culture and enlightenment. The hard drives are gonna work overtime tonight!

Oliver Twist is generally told as the story of an orphan who Fagin by chance takes under his wing. In the novel, Fagin and Oliver's uncle are conspirators who plot to frame Oliver using 19th-century ideas of "bad blood". Fagin intends before even meeting Oliver to enlist him as a thief. It's well worth reading the real story.
