Just a note: all of the movies this week are high quality video. The first 4 are from archive.org and I provide 2 links. Try them in order, if neither work for you, please post it. The last movie is on youtube.

First up is JAWS. This 1975 movie caused many to question if they wanted to go into the water again. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss star in this man vs. beast classic.

- When a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community, it's up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down.

Next up is WILL PENNY. This 1968 A-grade western stars Charlton Heston, Lee Majors, Joan Hackett, Ben Johnson, Bruce Dern, and Donald Pleasence among many big names. This is a good family movie about an aging cowboy just trying to survive. After a cattle drive ends, he takes a winter job to watch part of a big ranch in the Rockies. He finds a woman and child squatting in his assigned winter cabin, but doesn't have the heart to force them out as winter approaches. They learn to live together until interupted by a crazy family of rawhiders (buffalo skinners). This was intentionally a very authentic western. It's a personal favorite and a really good film.

Will Penny. One of my favorite movies. Good Christmas movie.

For the 3rd movie, let's go BACK TO THE FUTURE with Marty McFly and Doc Brown. This 1985 film stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson.

-Marty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent thirty years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the eccentric scientist Doc Brown.

The 4th film is THE SOUND OF MUSIC. This 1965 musical stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

- A woman leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the children of a Naval officer widower.

- In 1930's Austria, a young woman named Maria is failing miserably in her attempts to become a nun. When the Navy captain Georg Von Trapp writes to the convent asking for a governess that can handle his seven mischievous children, Maria is given the job. The Captain's wife is dead, and he is often away, and runs the household as strictly as he does the ships he sails on. The children are unhappy and resentful of the governesses that their father keeps hiring, and have managed to run each of them off one by one. When Maria arrives, she is initially met with the same hostility, but her kindness, understanding, and sense of fun soon draws them to her and brings some much-needed joy into all their lives -- including the Captain's. Eventually he and Maria find themselves falling in love, even though Georg is already engaged to a Baroness and Maria is still a postulant. The romance makes them both start questioning the decisions they have made.

The final film is THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME. This 1932 film is the first film adaptation of the famous story. This stars Joel McCrea, Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, and Leslie Banks. Most of the crew and actors involved in this film made a more famous movie on the same set a year later: King Kong (1933)

- After their luxury cabin cruiser crashes on a reef, Bob Rainsford finds himself washed ashore on a remote island. He finds a fortress-like house and the owner, Count Zaroff, seems to be quite welcoming. Apart from Zaroff's servant Ivan, the only other people present are Eve Trowbridge and her brother Martin, also survivors of their own shipwreck. Other survivors are missing however and Rainsford soon learns why. Zaroff releases them into his jungle island and then hunts them down in his grisly "outdoor chess" game! Then after Martin disappears, Bob realizes that he and Eve are to be the next "pawns" in Zaroff's deadly game.

LOVE the sound of music, hate musicals generally but that one I like.

My wife is a hardcore Jaws fan. When it came out she saw it 39 times!!!!! One of her favorite movies.

Thanks for the links!

Speaking of the Most Dangerous Game, has anyone ever heard of a book called (I believe) The Deadliest Game? Set in some 1940's oil-rich blahblahstan, where the good/bad conflict is settled by a duel structured as a sort of lethal steeplechase. Ring a bell? Searched fruitlessly for years.

The Most Dangerous Game has been one of my perennial favorite short stories since I first read it at the age of 16 (fifty years ago!). Richard Connell's original work can be found many places on the internet; here's one: The Most Dangerous Game

It's a quick read, and a most enjoyable one.

I just finished a quick test using my basic android phone with the firefox browser app and this thread. I was able to start and watch different parts of all 4 of the archive.org movies using the first link provided for each movie in this thread. Unless someone posts an issue, I'm going to assume movies from archive.org work just as well as anything from youtube.

I don't think it made any difference, but I do have the VLC media player app on my phone. However, I was using the firefox app to get into TB2K then this thread then the individual movies. The sound and video controls were different so I don't think VLC was being used to play the movies.

Roger, I remember reading The Most Dangerous Game for high school english class. It's a good story.

After perusing the available selections, I decided on Will Penny. I had already seen all the others I thought might be interesting. That was a good one.

Thanks for putting together the list...

Glad you liked Will Penny. I watched it and Jaws last night. Jaws after midnight in a dark room is a different experience.
I'll watch Back the the Future and finish the most dangerous game this afternoon.

I tried all three of the links for Jaws and none of them would work for me.
What were you trying to watch them with or on?
Did you try to do the "save link" on the 3rd (download) link? If you can download it, that would be another way to watch.

I'm not sure what any of that means, but I'll see if I can figure it out. By this time of the evening, I'd be better off waiting until I get some sleep before I try anything new on my computer. As I've said before, my computer hates me and just lies in wait to get me in trouble when I try anything new or unfamiliar. I can't deal with that when I'm tired.

Right now I'm watching The Most Dangerous Game, the one on You Tube, and it's working fine for me. I'm enjoying it. I love all the movies you post for us each weekend. I watch at least half of them...probably more.

When I was working at the post library at Ft. Rucker, AL, videocassettes were a new thing (VHS or Beta? :D) My boss decided to buy a collection of them to circulate like books (radical idea, right?). He spent several thousand bucks and got a batch of stuff plus a couple of VCRs thrown in.

I was going to visit some friends in Montgomery (where I worked for the state before selling out to Uncle Sam). The pile of new tech had arrived but was not yet cataloged for circulation, so I signed out a VCR and an armload of movies so I could get some experience with this new part of the collection.

I got to my friends house and the whole family was there. Five kids and six adults. First thing the kids wanted to see was Jaws. Adults filled up all the furniture in the living room so the kids sprawled on the floor in front of the teevee. Oldest kid was a tween and youngest was a first grader.

All went well till the first sudden shocky scary scene, at which time the floor instantly cleared and kids rematerialized in almost every lap :D.

Dozdoats, that reminds me what happened back when my family would rent a couple of movies for a weekend. In particular it happened near the end of the movie "Carrie" when a hand came up out of the ground and grabbed the girl's ankle. Pretty funny, but we didn't laugh at our poor spooked kids.

When the archive.org links didn't work for you, were you using an android tablet? apple tablet? phone? old windows computer? I hope it wasn't an old apple device, becuase I know nothing about those.

How long are these good for?
The links should be good until someone decides they need to be removed. That's not intended to be snarky, just the reality of the situation. I did not upload the movies. I only found them via search.

I think these should be good for awhile since they've been available for more than a year and are still up.
However, there are never guarantees unless you have them saved on something only you control.

On the archive.org movies, it would be cheap insurance to download them for future viewing.
Same for youtube IF you have a downloader program that currently works there.

EDIT: over 90% of the movie links I've posted in the past year are still good. However, youtube could revise a policy and change that overnight.

1911user, I have a four year old computer and am using Windows 7. (Soon to change to Windows 10, reluctantly)

It's okay if I can't watch those movies. I'm just grateful to you for any that I CAN watch.

What browser? With windows 7, I'm surprised at least the 2nd link in each listing did not work. That's like opening a youtube page, then you press the start arrow to play the video. Each of the first links is designed to go straight to the movie and have it start.

Do any of the first 4 movies play for you? They should all act the same way. I'm on a 6 year old windows 7 machine using firefox.

I have IE. The fifth movie worked fine. With the first four movies, both links of each got me the screen I needed but that screen stayed blank and the movie simply did not start.

The screen is Windows Media Player.

The 5th movie is on youtube. The first 4 are on a different website called archive.org.

I just tried the jaws links in an old version of IE. On the first link, it asked if I wanted to save or open it. I tried both. Either way, it was going download all 2.4GB of the movie before doing anything with it. I then tried the second link in IE, and like you, it didn't show the screen at all. frustrating

Try hold the mouse over the third link, right-click the mouse, then click "save link as:" from the little menu that should pop up there. That should download it for you. Windows media player will play the downloaded file when you double click the file.
It'll have to complete the download first though.

Going to another, newer browser would likely fix the issue of playing in the browser just like youtube.
Also going to Win 10 should make it work since it will come with a newer browser.

I tried that right-click instruction and it didn't work either.

I won't be getting Windows 10 until after the first of the year. If this week's movies are still available, I can watch them then.

Thanks.

I tried the right click thing again and got a box for down-loading. I clicked that and it is loading and tells me it will take 32 minutes. Oops, now it says 2 hours 15 minutes remaining. Now 2 hr 48 min. Good Grief!

Sorta reminds me of my first computer back in 2002!
