PREP Staying Ahead Of The Shortages: What To Stock Up On For The Coming Year

I've been buying solar lites, get a handful every year. They are all on the top shelf in the storeroom. I might actually use one or two a year, and they last for dang near ever.

I am currently treating my cat for an abcess with fish mox forte. He got an abcess from a cat fight, I squeezed it hard to get as much crud out as possible. He's healing up fine. I have given it to the chickens also for infections from bites. I have taken it for sinus Infections. I just wish I could find the stuff for this virus. The animal drugs are made in the same factories that's for humans. ( Its NOT fun pilling a cat, after wrapping them in a towel, and they sound like a hive of bees and struggle very aggressively):fprt

Another thing if you have the space is a Harborfreight Portable Shed. They are a 10x10 tent structure. You can get them on sale there for $130. They are hard to beat for the money. We have one that has been in use for our chickens for 2 years with no issues. It has made it through 2 winters just fine. They could provide extra storage space, emergency shelter, an extra work space etc. They make a larger one that is 10x17 but I have not used it.

Thank you for the ant traps idea. I just checked and need to get more!!

Solar lights folks, are there any that have a switch that you can turn off and on? Most I see are the walkway ones that turn on at dusk and run until morning or they run out of juice. Thanks

Ant poison we’re over run with the bastards already this year.

Went to a local "farm supply" store (not TSC) and picked up an extra bottle (they come in various sizes from little bottles the size of 3 in 1 oil, to a gallon and is expensive) of Bifen T/I (termite and insecticide). Takes one ounce per gallon, and is very good. It's commercial grade insecticide.

We have a wood frame house on a conventional foundation, and termites is a worry. This is stuff is great.

Some people don't like chemcials, I get that, but if you don't mind them, I recommend this stuff.

Spray around my wood pile as well and don't have any bugs there either.

Works on ants too, but DON'T use on the inside. Spray around outside of house. If on a conventional foundation you still may have ants in that they are under the house.

Having an extra bottle in storage would be a good idea IMHO.

I've had expensive and cheap ones and can't get them to last 6 months. I guess everyone has a different experience.

Just as a side note concerning lights: Once being without electricity becomes long term (for whatever weather related reason, we were without power for 2 weeks due to an ice storm in April) meaning more than a few hours, the tendency will be to go to bed at dark/dusk, and get up at daylight, or shortly after. So having tons of lights won't be a thing.

When we would visit my grandpaw in June, even in his old log cabin house they had a pull string light in every room. We would sit on the front porch way after dark with out any lights on. When no one has lights, you're eyes adjust to the darkness. Just saying. That's mostly for country people, homestead or not.

Folks in high rise apts. while going to bed and getting up will probably be the same the issue of light at night may be different.

The expensive ones usually have an on/off switch. Some you can turn a part which loses contact with the battery. They are all cheezy, so they aren't gonna be the best thing since sliced bread.
While I was typing this, all my lights went out for a second, and now I hear sirens and a huge buzzing noise from the electric station on the canal

We do not imbibe, but a long time ago we stocked up on high octane hooch in case we needed to barter or use it for antiseptic. I think it's the stuff akin to moonshine.

Worse comes to worse, I guess it'll be good starting fluid, or could run our private jet to our island hideout.
