Royal Berkey:

The versatile Royal Berkey® system is the ideal system for use at home with large families, travel, outdoor activities or during unexpected emergencies.

This powerful system purifies both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds and water supplies in foreign countries, where regulations may be substandard at best. Perfect for outdoor activities and a must in hostile environments where electricity, water pressure or treated water may not be available.

The Royal Berkey® system removes pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites entirely and extracts harmful chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, organic solvents, radon 222 and trihalomethanes. It also reduces nitrates, nitrites and unhealthy minerals such as lead and mercury. This system is so powerful it can remove red food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Virtually no other system can duplicate this performance.

Constructed of highly polished 304 stainless steel, the system comes complete with two purification elements and utilizes the latest technological advances. This system has a storage capacity of about 3.25 gallons (12.3 liters) and when in use it stands 23” in height with a diameter of 9.5”. The upper chamber nests within the lower chamber for transport and stands only 15.25” in height.

Configured with two Black Berkey® purification elements the system will purify up to 4 Gallons (15.1 liters) per hour*. This system can be expanded to use four purification elements and is capable of purifying up to 8 Gallons (30.3 liters) per hour*.

*Flow rate calculated with upper chamber full to top. Flow rate decreases as water level declines.

Be Well

I have a Berk and have used it for 10 years and am considering getting extra filters. I have a couple of questions. I did a bit of reading the other night on a lot of websites that have Berks (didn't know about yours, though) and the old info says that the Super Stearasyl filters last for 10,000 gallons each, but most info says much fewer gallons.

Do you know why that is? (I have very clean well water and probably don't even need to filter it but we do anyway.)

I also am investigating for a friend who wants one or two Berks (just send him your comment above) and am wondering why the Black filters need replacing so often too. He lives in a big city in CA and so (ahem ahem) if he gets Berks they'll be sent to me so I can (ahem ahem) you get the picture.

I am not sure why they say it would do less than 10,000 gallons, as it is ceramic, and is very durable over many years.

The Black Berkey elements can do about 6000 gallons per set of 2, and that may be what filter they are talking about.

The black berkey elements don't last as long as the white ceramics because they are made of carbon. Ceramic is known to last longer over time, but carbon filters better.

Thanks for passing our information onto your friend.

Thanks for the reply.

How does one tell when the black filters need changing? Do you just have to keep track of the gallons, or do they change in appearance like the ceramic ones, or get very slow?
