I think it was a great thread with many contributors. But, it appears to have run it's course. Let it die a natural death. I believe when we enter Flu Season, the vaccine trials are active, etc there may be reason to start Covid2.

I say let it stay as it is that way should someone want to add something that pops up that they catch they are able to. Actually I am off to read thru it now.... :D

First time posting a poll on the new software. I hope it works!

Please give this some thought.

**One of the main contributors to the thread will have to stop posting this week, and another is seriously considering the same. I have offered to post a small part of their content, but I can’t do it all.

Are you still reading the long thread? Do you feel it is still important for people to update it and add content?

Or have you had enough? Are you willing to watch it fall off page one of Main? Are you willing to do a search for new info, rather than just open up the long thread? Are you willing to do research on your own, research that dedicated members have been doing for us for the last six months?

The possible answers to the poll question are yes, no or unsure.

Comments/discussion welcome.

Thank you!

Hopefully this is just an opinion poll. As in, not a democratic vote resulting a new phenomonon - mob rule.

questions:

Are you still reading the long thread?

Yes, I read many posts every day - so what?

Do you feel it is still important for people to update it and add content?

That's their business, if they decide to post, maybe I'll read it. If I decide to post, maybe some one else will find benefit, comment, or ignore.

Or have you had enough?

Again, my business. I have the option of reading, or disregarding.

Are you willing to watch it fall off page one of Main?

Irrelevant to me. I use the 'new post' feature. Have for years. Main has zero meaning. New posts is giving me what's the latest. Not trending. I never miss out on any post, board-wide. IMHO - main is for the users that skim, not the users which follow everything. Main sucks, good for those without membership. Main is like MSM. What's popular is often not my cup of tea.

Are you willing to do a search for new info, rather than just open up the long thread?

See above. New posts is a search, again board wide.

Are you willing to do research on your own, research that dedicated members have been doing for us for the last six months?

Those that research on their own, present new material to the board as they see fit.

This poll is not representative of long time users.

This poll represents those that have an agenda against the free flow of unrestricted information.

A long thread is hard for some users. I'm sorry. That's the way it is. It's not Betty Crocker, just add water. However I can use the tools the board provides, invest time, and find about anything I'm looking for.

In 2009 we had a thread on H1N1. If you want you can search for it and pull it up - fascinating. Over 400 children died of the flu. The Obama admin would not close the schools, children died. The thread is still available. Was it long? Very. In fact, it suffered an unique anomaly, lots of data (posts) Disappeared.

So if you look to main, or have never learned to use search, you will have no idea of this history.

If you wish to limit information, you will in fact, write history to your liking. Whether you intend to or not.

We here already have sets of rules we as members must abide. By and large these rules are well though out, reasonable, and benefit the members in one way or another. From my understanding this poll does not have any standing towards the thread in question.

Further, if I decide to start a thread which tries to resolve π - It's my prerogative - it may go on a few pages. It's up to you if you decide to peruse for your purposes.

Tom, I just deleted a long comment that was less than polite, but will say this: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

You say there’s an “agenda against the free flow of information“ when I’ve been trying to find a few people to pick up the baton from Marsh to KEEP the info flowing. So, ?

It sounds like you’re saying that *I* don’t have “standing” to post this poll with regard to the long Covid thread - WTH?

If I’m misunderstanding you, I apologize. It’s not been a great day.

Thank You Bev. I apologize for offending you.
I did not intend to offend you personally.

It's been a string of many not_great_days.

That thread lost me three or four weeks ago. I don't care if it dies or not, I won't be reading it.

Too many videos and conspiracy nut posts. Not enough well documented content to make it worth the time. I can do a lot more efficient job of keeping up on my own, with my own sources, research and judgement.

I agree with DD’s post 40. The big thread has proven a valuable historical repository for the outbreak of, and events surrounding, Covid. But indeed, it’s all become political now. I think the thread should be allowed to slip away, UNTIL a treatment is found. I think any treatments should be added to that thread to provide final closure.

Yes please put it out of my misery. Have gotten really jaded about Corona - so, damned if we do and damned if we don't. Can be resurrected just like the Grand Solar Minimum if we hit part Deux.

I think the thread should be left alone. I am perplexed why people are having this conversation.

If you don't like the thread or don't find it useful, don't click on it. If you don't have any useful info to post, then don't post anything. The thread will die a natural death if people stop posting things.

It is what it is. If there is nothing new or useful coming out information- wise to post on the thread, then it will go away.

What I don't understand is why someone who dislikes the thread, doesn't find it useful, doesn't like the news sources etc, can't just ignore it and move on and let the people who do read and post there continue on?

People are saying the thread is not manageable. Are you kidding me? That was true a few months ago. I'd walk away for 2 hours and come back to 40 pages of posts and research studies to try to get through. Now I can walk away for 4 days and come back to 2 or 3 pages at most.

It is much easier to manage now. If you are having a hard time catching up right now, you must have been away for 6 weeks or something. All I have to do is click on the thread title and the software automatically takes me to the last unread post. If you've been away for weeks then, like someone said earlier, start at the end and skim back a few pages and you will be quickly up to speed.

Some of the videos / news sources posted may not be my cup of tea. I skim over those posts, but, I still appreciate that the poster(s) were trying to look up info/articles to post to try to keep everyone up to speed. What I don't find useful, someone else might.

Also, having all the info on one thread makes it easy to search for things (I've done that several times) instead of having to keep up with multiple threads.

On that same note, we don't need to worry if people are not posting to it, Bev. If there is news worthy of reporting, then people will post it. If not, let it die a natural death. (I actually look forward to the day it dies because the pandemic would be over and not affecting us anymore.)

I just can't fathom why people want to close it. Why can't they just ignore it and leave it to those that want to read it and participate?

I was just about to write this exact same post..

Bears repeating.
