Bernie Sanders to seek ‘partial recanvass’ of Iowa caucus precincts

Bernie Sanders will ask the Iowa state Democratic Party for a “partial recanvass” of several precincts in the caucuses, a report said Monday.

The Sanders campaign came to the decision after reporters and others noted on Twitter that there appeared to be irregularities in the delegate calculations, the Hill reported.

The Iowa Democratic Party said Sunday that Pete Buttigieg won the majority of national convention delegates, capturing 14, while Sanders won 12.

The Sanders campaign did not specify which precincts they’ll seek a recount in, according to the report.

As the caucuses descended into chaos last Monday because of a faulty app organizers used to record data, Sanders’ campaign released partial internal reporting numbers that showed the Vermont socialist leading in the contest.

Before their final tally was released Sunday, Iowa Democrats released numbers earlier last week that showed Sanders and Buttigieg in a virtual tie with data from 97 percent of the precincts.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren finished in third with eight delegates, and former Vice President Joe Biden placed fourth, capturing six, according to the numbers released Sunday.
