Saw reports last week that Russia put all their nuke subs to sea....how long does it take them to get on station?

There may be some sort of backdoor negotiations going on re# the Ukraine/Donbas situation. Clearly nothing has been said publicly but I think US/Russian diplomacy is working hard on this situation.
This current administration is SO out of their league. Russia will go to the Dniepre and westward along the coast towards Odessa. If NATO flows in forces to fight, Russia will take all of Ukraine, part of Poland, and seriously threaten the Baltics. If the US jumps in, nukes will fly. Russia is serious and we underestimate their resolve and fear on encroachment.

Oh, goodie, another "coalition of the willing perhaps?"
Doubt they will be eager to start something with somebody that can send back cruise missiles and shoot down those approaching. Russia is holding all the cards and NATO is playing the dummy hand.

On the map you can see first force direct south from belarus along the river. The east forces go west to the river. The amphibious take the coastline to Moldavia? Plus level the Aegis system in romania.
72 hours max.
If Putin wants he can take the baltic states and finland also in 3 days.
If Poland twiches he will crush them.

The only thing is when he launches the attack.

Are you sure about that?
So remind me what's in the Ukraine that the US/NATO need to protect so badly?

Part of it is the legitimacy of NATO. The alliance is still important. That's a political reason.

If Russia intends to reabsorb Ukraine, it is a major foodstuffs and industrial gain. That's a military reason. As is the proximity to Poland, which was also pointed out.

You should write books, that was good.

Don't see Vlad taking Finland. Will he go into da Ukeland? Maybe. But we went through this exercise what, a couple of years ago and it was a nothing burger for the most part.

From #Lavrov's words I get impression #Russia was aiming to get to brink of war with #Ukraine so West (European #NATO allies mainly) would panic and give Russia anything (like NATO cutting ties with Ukr) in order to avoid war. Could this have been a gross miscalculation? 1/2
Raising spectre of war even more, as he's trying to do since it didn't work as desired so far, is getting the opposite effect actually. We always tall about West misreading Russia... but today it looks like Russia is misreading the West. How to deescalate this is key. 2/2

Scoop: Biden and Putin may hold call to discuss European security situation next week, possibly on Dec. 7.

In past few days, Kremlin has made perfectly clear what Russian military build-up on Ukrainian border is about: a warning to US to disavow Ukraine's NATO membership once and for all.
Why now? Ironically, because Zelensky is making no effort to reintegrate pro-Russian separatist regions, depriving Kremlin of lever of influence. House arrest of Putin's Ukrainian ally, Viktor Medvedchuk, also plays role. As do Biden's China preoccupation and Merkel's departure.

US and Russia no closer to breakthrough on Ukraine after talks

I think the breakthrough will be Russian troops pouring over the Ukranian border in a 3 pronged attack. Based on Russian troop disbursements Russia can easily take all of eastern Ukraine in a few days. Particularly the port of Odessa.
If the US and Russia back down from this latest round of rhetoric it will be a miracle. You don't move all those troops up to a border and expect them to stay sharp for an indefinite length of time.
Use 'em or lose 'em (in terms of combat readiness).........................

Looks like the brits are getting nervous. RUSSIA NOW REGARDS THE UKRAINE AS A DIRECT THREAT. War is imminent.

Russia warns 'the nightmare scenario of military confrontation is returning' in Europe and says Ukraine's goal to retake Crimea is a 'direct threat'
  • Sergei Lavrov said 'nightmare scenario of military confrontation is returning'
  • Russian Foreign Minister made remark as tensions escalate over Ukraine
  • Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned of a potential military move by Kiev
  • But Russia is thought to have deployed legions of troops to the border already
  • Russian forces were instructed to be 'combat ready' by Army General Shoigu
  • It comes as top US and Russian diplomats meet today to discuss rising tensions
  • The US said a Russian invasion of Ukraine will incur an international response

The Russian Foreign Minister has warned that 'the nightmare scenario' of military conflicts in Europe is returning as tensions continue to escalate over the situation in Ukraine.
Addressing the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) today, Sergei Lavrov said that tensions are continuing to rise on the continent - which could result in war.
In his speech Lavrov also said he hoped that Russia's proposals on a new European security pact would be carefully considered.

Russia's fears are somewhat justified, actually. Think eastern Europe prior to June, 1941. The Germans invaded and didn't stop until they were 10 miles from the outskirts of Moscow. 20% of Russia's population either was killed or starved. That's why they make such a deal about the great patriotic war (as they call WW2). The concept of the Rodina isn't an intellectual construct-it's a red line that any nation stupid to cross it will be taken out swiftly and completely.

And the Russians have always wanted the Ukraine. It's their Kansas, it's their Nebraska. Russians put down the kulaks and starved a few million Ukranians in the Homolodor. They just don't want the Ukraine-they REALLY WANT the Ukraine. And God help whoever is foolish enough to get in their way.

There used to be an idea called spheres of influence. Stay out of our back yard and we stay out of yours. Good fences make good neighbors.

I'd imagine we would squeel if Russia tried to puppet Mexico were the tides reversed.
Well, it would be more like if the US balkanized and Texas wanted to join the Warsaw Pact (or the China-Russian Axis, whatever). I get what you are saying though.

Wow, that would be some SERIOUS :poop: for a duty station for those poor ruskie troops. Dodging Polar Bears no doubt and keeping an eye out for any Orca Killer Whales looking for a snack.:hof:

Oh boy, showers once a month, and gallons of vodka to keep from going INSANE.
