WAR RUSSIA BLOCKS KERCH STRAIT AND ENGAGES UKRANIAN NAVY PART TWO 12-7-2018

Given the fact the first thread now has over 724 replies, I have created this second thread for all information from December 7th, 2018 forward. Besides, since we may soon be looking a "hot war," it is only fitting that I do this on Pearl Harbor Day. One series of EMP bursts over CONUS would be Pearl Harbor Part Two.

Here we go! I guess the USA is going to bait the Russian bear not once, but two times.

https://www.breitbart.com/national-...challenge-russia-both-eastern-western-waters/

The U.S. Navy deployed its guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell near Russia-contested waters in the Sea of Japan on Wednesday as it begun taking the necessary steps to sail a warship into the Black Sea, west of Russia, amid increased tensions in the wake of the Kremlin’s seizure of three Ukrainian military vessels.

This week, the Kremlin’s defense ministry reportedly acknowledged that Russia is holding naval war exercises and surface-to-air missile drills in the Black Sea region. Citing satellite images, Fox News also reported recently that the Russian military deployed additional S-400 surface-to-air missile batteries to Crimea.

The Kremlin claims ownership of the entire Peter the Great Bay region, named after the first emperor of Russia.

In a statement to CNN, U.S. Navy Lt. Rachel McMarr, a spokesperson for the American Pacific Fleet said, the USS “McCampbell sailed in the vicinity of Peter the Great Bay to challenge Russia’s excessive maritime claims and uphold the rights, freedoms, and lawful uses of the sea enjoyed by the United States and other Nations.”

The missile destroyer conducted what the U.S. Navy describes as Freedom of Navigation Operations (FONOP), aimed at challenging nations that claim sovereignty over waters beyond the 12 nautical miles of their coasts guaranteed by international law.

CNN learned from the U.S. Navy that the United States does not recognize Russia’s claims on Sea of Japan waters, noting that Kremlin claims ownership of areas that far exceed the 12 miles from the Russian coastline.

Citing three unnamed officials, CNN also revealed Wednesday that U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has begun making preparations to deploy a warship to the Black Sea.

The news outlet reported:

The US military has requested that the State Department notify Turkey of its possible plans to sail a warship into the Black Sea, three US officials tell CNN, a move they said is a response to Russia’s actions against Ukraine in the Kerch Strait, which connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

U.S. Navy personnel have not sailed in vicinity of the Peter the Great Bay, near the Russian Pacific Fleet base in Vladivostok, “since 1987,” amid Cold War tensions with the former Soviet Union, CNN noted, adding:

The US is required to notify Turkey about the passage through the straits under the Montreux Convention, a 1936 treaty that governs the passage of military vessels through the Bosporus and the Dardanelles, which connect the Mediterranean to the Black Sea. Under the rules of the treaty, countries that do not have a coastline on the Black Sea are required to provide Turkey with at least 15 days’ notice prior to transiting the straits.

The U.S. Navy noted that it is positioning itself to be able to respond to threats against its interests in the Black Sea.

The USA intentionally deploying combat warships to bait Russia is bad.

Actually, it was up to 762 replies, which is one HUGE thread to try and sort through!:strs:

Now that the USA, et al, is deploying naval warships within 12 miles of the Russian coast, Doomer Doug predicts Putin is going to go BAT POOP CRAZY.

For example, let us say that the Russian "Navy" sends one of those new frigattes, the ones armed with the super duper cruise missiles to Cuba for a port call. And then the Ruskies sail that same ship to within 12 miles of the entrance to the harbor at Miami? Can you guess what the US response to that kind of PROVOCATION would be?

Let's add a little more gasoline to the fire..........

From the Kiev Post this evening.

https://www.kyivpost.com/ukraine-po...ight-rules-of-engagement-for-coast-guard.html

Ukraine’s parliament has voted to allow the Maritime Border Guard to open fire without warning if the force’s vessels come under unprovoked attack while patrolling the country’s territorial waters.

The new rules of engagement were introduced as a provision of the bill on Ukraine’s contiguous maritime zone passed by parliament late on Dec. 6. The contiguous zone extends up to 24 nautical miles from Ukraine’s coast, and is a zone in which the country, by international law, can exert limited control in order to enforce its customs and other laws.

According to the document, Ukrainian vessels are now entitled to shoot on sight in order to:

repel an armed assault, or to assist in defending other vessels of the Border Guard, or any other Ukrainian vessels, against an attack
repel an invasion of Ukraine’s territory by armed military formations or criminal gangs
quell armed resistance
to halt armed conflicts and armed provocations

In general, the new law allows Ukrainian vessels to open fire without warning if they are themselves fired upon.

At the same time, the new rules of engagement state that Ukrainian forces are to fire warning shots if arresting vessels that violate the Ukrainian state border or the country’s tax, customs, migration, or health legislation, or if the violating vessels attempt to flee.

Besides, the document also states that Ukraine’s contiguous zone is to stretch up to 24 nautical miles from the country’s seacoast. Within this area, Ukraine shall execute its customs, fiscal, immigration and sanitary controls.

Ukraine’s territorial waters still stretch to up to 12 nautical miles off coast, as provided for under international maritime law.

The bill effectively doubles the zone under Ukraine’s security controls in the Black Sea; before that, the legislation envisaged the Ukrainian security activities only within its 12-mile zone of territorial waters. The new regulations reportedly does not affect the delimitation of the Azov Sea, which is deemed to be the internal waters of both Russia and Ukraine, in line with the 2003 treaty between the two.

The new bill on Ukraine’s extended zone of maritime control was passed just 10 days after the Nov. 25 armed attack by Russian forces against three Ukrainian navy vessels crossing the Black Sea near the Kerch Strait.

Folks,

This sh*t is getting REAL now. Today around 1130am my wife and I witnessed a full near presidential motorcade heading for our local military base. The flag flying on the motorcade main Suburban was that of none other than the Secretary of Defense-General Mattis. This was a 25 motorcycle 8 Suburbans AND a secret service communication Suburban along with 10 DC police and US park police cars type motorcade. Doing at least 65 in a 45 zone, folks. It was either a practice run or a bugout in progress, because the base is the NCA bugout site for the DOD secretary. Saw it and was almost ready to keep going west OUT of the area. There were no ceremonies or anything scheduled on post today-nothing. Didn't see the motorcade leave either. Let's just say this move, on a Saturday morning a few weeks before Christmas is more than a bit telling.

The road mobile missiles being moved for exercises is sadly not new news on the inside. Those TEL units are gonna need new tracks seeing just how many times they have been moved since this little incident occurred. Won't say more.

Oh, here is an interesting story from today's Kiev Post. I think the implications speak for themselves. Remember, both Poland and Lithuania are both full NATO members; the Ukraine is not.

https://www.kyivpost.com/ukraine-po...ding-the-creation-of-joint-military-unit.html

Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada has amended the agreement signed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the governments of Lithuania and Poland regarding the creation of the joint military unit – the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian Brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG).

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent has reported that a total of 230 lawmakers backed the ratification of the changes to the agreement signed in September 2014 on Dec. 6.

According to the changes, the Brigade was named after Grand Hetman Kostiantyn Ostrogski.

In addition, the provisions concerning the participation in international operations were reworded.

Now LITPOLUKRBRIG will be able to participate not only in international operations that are conducted under the mandate of the UN Security Council, but in any international operations that “comply with the principles and requirements of international law.” The Brigade will be able to participate in these operations with the unanimous consent of the parties.

Representatives of the governments of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine signed amendments to the agreement in October 2017.

LITHUANIA IMPOSES SANCTIONS BECAUSE OF RUSSIA'S ACT OF WAR AGAINST UKRAINE

Saturday, 08 December 2018 09:25
Radiolemberg.com

Michael MacKay, Radio Lemberg, 08.12.2018

Lithuania isn’t waiting for European Union sanctions – which may never come.

Instead, the EU and NATO member state is imposing national sanctions on Russian individuals responsible for the attacks on the Ukrainian Navy which occurred on November 25 in the Kerch Strait and the Black Sea.

The President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitë, was on an official visit to Kyiv on December 7. At a press conference with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, President Grybauskaitë said: “We know that international organizations have not yet adopted any sanctions against Russian actions. However, we imposed our national sanctions in protest against the attack in the Kerch Strait. We also decided to provide assistance in form of munitions, we send our instructors, military instructors, cyber instructors and humanitarian aid. We also support all civil initiatives of our people to help you in your struggle.”

President Poroshenko thanked Lithuania for its leadership, and called on other international partners to impose sanctions on the Russian Federation over its aggression. Russian attacks in Crimea, in Donbas, in the Sea of Azov, in the Black Sea, and in cyberspace are a direct threat to European security and a challenge to the entire democratic world, he said.

Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linus Linkevièius, sent a tweet to coincide with the announcement of sanctions: “Lithuania has decided to blacklist Russian officials responsible for an attack on Ukrainian vessels in Kerch Strait and BlackSea. We urge our EU allies to follow. Blatant violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and international law must bear consequences.” Minister Linkevièius is a proven friend of Ukraine and defender of Europe from Russian aggression: he has visited the battlefront in Donbas where the Russian Federation is invading, more than once.

The national sanctions which Lithuania imposed are against 20 Russian individuals who personally participated in the unprovoked attack against service members of the Ukrainian Navy, as well as their leaders and commanders. There are radio intercepts and there is video from the time of the attack, so it is not difficult to determine who the war criminals are.

Condemnation of Russian aggression is not enough. Linus Linkevièius said this plainly. “This is a direct call to others … and others are also thinking about such measures, that I know,” said Lithuania’s foreign minister.

From soon after the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine, Lithuania has supplied ammunition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Soon after the NATO military training mission started in Yavoriv, Lviv region, Ukraine, Lithuania was a contributing member state. Lithuania has helped Ukraine resist Russian aggression to a degree that goes well beyond its small size. Germany and France should be ashamed of themselves for the inadequacy of their response compared to Lithuania’s.

Lithuania is leading the EU and reminding the other members of their responsibilities. Sanctions on Russian individuals and entities was the right thing to do when the Russian Federation invaded and occupied Crimea, Ukraine in 2014. The EU imposed these sanctions even though the Russians lied about the nature of their war against Ukraine, calling Russian soldiers “little green men” and “friendly people” and other such nonsense. The Russian Federation’s attack on three Ukrainian Navy boats on November 25 was a clear act of war, for which the Russians are in the wrong and responsible. Extensive and punitive sanctions must be imposed on the Putin regime that is waging war against Europeans in Ukraine. Sanctions are the least help that the EU (and the US and Canada and Japan and other countries) can give to Ukraine: the sole fighting defender of Western civilization against an implacable assault by Muscovy.
