GUNS/RLTD Richfield MN man's seized weapons at the center of 2nd Amendment dispute.

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…
This is a tough one... I too believe that this gentleman is a bit more than odd. The UFO and Bigfoot stuff are fine. The "hundreds" of CIA Agents are the issue, that and his Doctors statement about a mild bi-polar condition well controlled by his medication. That said, once he's adjudicated, that's pretty much it... He's not getting his guns back or retaining his permit. And, it's not like we can't imagine certain segments of society falling back on psychiatric diagnosis to find folks incompetent to keep and bear arms...

Reluctantly, I think he should have his weapons returned and bear some watching.

This is crap. I can tell you some police departments and district attorneys don't want people having guns, laws be damned. I am presently fighting for the return of one of my pistols -because a police department and district attorney think guns are bad.

Story goes like this. I have a concealed license. Was out with the girlie running errands, carrying. We realized one of our local favorite bands was playing nearby and decided to pop in and say hello and have a beer. If I consume a drop of alcohol, I am not able to carry. Stupid laws. So, I leave the gun in the car. It gets stolen. Police catch the guy, charge him with theft of a firearm, carrying concealed without a permit ... seems he had some drugs on him, so a possession charge... somehow all charges are dropped and now nobody wants to return my property. The DA office is completely unhelpful. I found a form -- "PETITION AND ORDER DISPOSING OF FIREARM UPON PROSECUTOR’S PETITION", which I filled out and sent to the DA. The DA has to sign it, then get the judge to sign it. Then, once everyone has signed it, it gets sent to the police department and I, in theory, get my gun back.

It's been almost 90 days and I haven't heard a peep. I'm sure the DA is just sitting on it, laughing. One more evil gun off the street.

The gun is worth $600. How much do you think an attorney would charge me to file *anything* with the court, let alone show up and argue that I should get my property back? Do you think it is more or less than $600? There's your answer.

Just add for those that don't know, regarding the lawyer cost... Minimum $1,500 retainer depending on area and much higher for a good (if there is such a thing) lawyer.

So you're going through all that because you "followed the rules." I have to say that when I carry, I carry, period. Unless there's a metal detector to get in, the gun will not leave my side. Because unless one is about to be robbed INSIDE THE VENUE, concealed means concealed. There's no light bulb flashing above anyone's head indicating that they're still carrying, KWIM?

You learned a hard lesson. I hope you get your pistol back.
