CIA Counterterror Chief Suggests Going To War Against "Domestic Insurgents"

THURSDAY, FEB 04, 2021 - 21:20
Authored by Steve Watson via Summit News,
The former head of the CIA Counterterrorism Center has suggested that counterinsurgency tactics used by the military in Iraq and Afghanistan should be applied to ‘domestic extremists’ inside the US.

NPR reports that Robert Grenier, who directed the CIA’s Counterterrorism program from 2004 to 2006, declared “We may be witnessing the dawn of a sustained wave of violent insurgency within our own country, perpetrated by our own countrymen.”
In an op-ed for The New York Times last week, Grenier suggested that “extremists who seek a social apocalypse … are capable of producing endemic political violence of a sort not seen in this country since Reconstruction.”

Grenier, also a former CIA station chief in Pakistan and Afghanistan, grouped together “the Proud Boys, the Three Percenters, the Oath Keepers, ‘Christian’ national chauvinists, white supremacists and QAnon fantasists” and claimed they are all “committed to violent extremism.”

Grenier labeled dissenters an “insurgency” and called for them to be “defeated” like an enemy army.

In further comments to NPR, Grenier stated that “as in any insurgency situation, you have committed insurgents who are typically a relatively small proportion of the affected population. But what enables them to carry forward their program is a large number of people from whom they can draw tacit support.”

Grenier also stated that insurgents may emerge from groups who “believe that the election was stolen,” or those “who don’t trust NPR or The New York Times.”

“The most violent elements that we are concerned about right now see former President Trump as a broadly popular and charismatic symbol,” the CIA spook added, before comparing Trump to Saddam Hussein.

“You know, just as I saw in the Middle East that the air went out of violent demonstrations when [Iraqi leader] Saddam Hussein was defeated and seen to be defeated, I think the same situation applies here,” he proclaimed.

Grenier suggested that Trump should be convicted at the upcoming impeachment trial as a ‘national security imperative’ because “So long as he is there and leading the resistance, if you will, which he shows every sign of intending to do, he is going to be an inspiration to very violent people.”

Grenier then compared Americans to Al Qaeda and the Taliban, noting that in Afghanistan “the thrust of our campaign there was, yes, to hunt down al-Qaida, but primarily to remove the supportive environment in which they were able to live and to flourish. And that meant fighting the Taliban.”

“I think that is the heart of what we need to deal with here,” he added.

Linking to Grenier’s comments, journalist Glenn Greenwald quipped that wedding guests throughout America should watch out for drone missiles:

The call to treat Americans as terrorist insurgents comes on the heels of a Department of Homeland Security warning that those dissatisfied with the election result may rise up and commit acts of terrorism in the coming weeks.

“Information suggests that some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence,” stated the bulletin issued last week through the DHS National Terrorist Advisory System — or NTAS.

The bulletin added that ‘extremists’ may be “motivated by a range of issues, including anger over COVID-19 restrictions, the 2020 election results, and police use of force.”

A plane of the Indian Air Force (IAF), carrying Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, will conduct a mock emergency landing on a national highway in Rajasthan's Barmer this week...

At 1:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the Wanan air defense drill will be held simultaneously throughout Taiwan, with citizens expected to shelter in place as air-raid sirens sound for 30 minutes to simulate a wave of incoming Chinese missiles and warplanes... Among the highly watched drills will be the air force's use of wartime highway strips, which assume the destruction of all other military and civilian runways.

The Taliban were pissed when they discovered that the C-130s they captured had been disabled by the landing gear being cut. If you look at the photos of them when the Talibs were crawling over them you'll notice they are leaning over pretty well towards the side the gear was collapsed.

My guess is a couple of wraps with det cord and "Poof!", airplane fall down. I doubt anybody will be selling them a spare, because only Lockheed Martin or the C-130 depot at Hill AFB do replacement work and neither is likely to be sending teams to Kabul to do a field replacement.

It's an 8" thick main gear on the H models, if I remember correctly. Det cord might do it but shaped charge might be quicker.

And here's a company (one of many) that sell Herky bird parts that ain't GELAC OR Lockheed Martin. DIMO sells all kinds of stuff for a variety of planes, and they sell it all over the world.
Being a US company ( thoughtfully located in Deleware, hmmm) there's probably export controls on those repair parts.

But-the North Vietnamese were able to keep most of the captured South Vietnamese air force planes flying for a number of years, using spares bought through shell companies from the French.
Iran still flies Herky Birds, and I'm certain they don't get parts from us. Here's a story on one Herky Bird refurbished by the Iranians in 2020.

My very favorite military plane..doubt if that's anywhere near the tightest landing one has ever done...and I've been privileged to be much closer than that when one landed. :)

Maybe international implications with Taiwan and India doing something similar.

Even if there are DS implications to consider, if those efforts seem to be failing, China may not want to wait for a success that is looking increasingly unlikely to occur.

Given the Chinese making incursions into air and sea space all over the Pacific, including Alaska, military planners may be getting real nervous.

Deep State. If the DS can't get us at each others' throats and distracted, China may pull whatever they want to pull early.

Some traditionalist military planners and analysis may have read those tea leaves and decided to make sure we're ready.

All this new training in strange places is not targeted toward us the citizens, the military is getting ready for war right here on US soil.
Same with all the train loads of armor being reported moving around the country.
All of our bases are targeted for sunshine in a can. The Military is spreading stuff out.

This is my hunch. I think war on US soil was always the endgame, and signs point to it being soon. So we get ready.

Let me also say that the DS wouldn't need to use the interstate system to impose their will. There are military bases and public air accommodations all over the country that they could commandeer. The interstate contingency would never be needed for a purely internal action.

Practicing interstate aviation operations only makes sense when a state actor destroys or occupies an operations facility, or if we are trying to disperse our people and hardware to deny a state actor any easy clustered targets.

Neither here nor there.

The left wants a civil war and so bad they're practically wetting themselves. All funded by soros of course... whose sole mission is to bring to fruition hitlers final solution. And remember his son is even more radical than the old man!

Back in the 1960s they landed C-130s on a Navy Aircraft Carrier and could take off without the aid of a catapult! Just point the ship into the wind and full speed ahead and get the C-130 engine's up to speed and let go of the brakes and off it go's no problem.
USS Forestall. It's in one of my cruise books.

ETA: The nautical speed of US Carriers are still classified. Forestall was a conventional war ship, not a nuclear powered one. I mostly worked the night shift on the deck. But there was something a little fun in leaning forward at a 45 degree angle and not falling face first. We had CCTV in each shop that showed flight ops live, which included direction, wind speed, and knots. I recall us travelling quickly into the wind going about 60 knots. That provided plenty of lift for my pilots.

I also remember when we came out of the Straits of Gibraltar from visiting Marseilles heading back across the pond toward Mayport, Florida. It took us a week and a half to make it near Bermuda. All the birds had flown off towards Pensacola. Then we went through a hurricane and the ships speed was only 2 knots. All hatches secured ordered by the CO. I got a little itchy and decided to step out onto the catwalk Starboard side at flight deck level and witnessed waves crashing over our bow and deck which is 90 feet above sea level.

Maybe I should make my own thread.

This concerns me not in the least, I'm glad they're practicing it for the upcoming war w China.

We'll need dispersed airfields for thier bajillion missles they'll be launching, why do you think there's such a chip shortage?

Why do you think China wanted that dutch chip printer so bad? (Dutch denied the sale)

More news about the event and training background, as well as better pics.

A multi-branch military operation included a dramatic scene on the Wyoming prairie when a US Air Force Reserve C-130J aircraft touched down on the highway.

According to the Air Force Reserve, the operation — Rally in the Rockies — kicked off Monday when the aircraft touched down on US 287 north of Rawlins.

"This was one of many training scenarios scheduled for Sept. 13 - 16 across Colorado and Wyoming," a news release states. Units are tasked with delivering critical cargo and personnel to U.S. forces located in simulated contested areas.

The 913th Airlift Group is based out of Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas.

Bigfoot 99 (local radio station) shared this incredible video of the operation, which is expected to last through Thursday.

The article said this landing represented over four months of planning. This “event” runs through this Thursday…

Why did it take 4 months of planning AND 24 core samples taken out of one stretch of roadway? Wouldn't the road weight loading be on file with the WY DOT? And the feds for that matter. That's just weird.

The DOD sure seems to be making these road landings press worthy events. And if a Herky Bird pilot can't land safely (even at all up weight) on a 12 mile stretch of perfectly flat highway, then perhaps he should be flying a desk.

And that's a J model with the Q tip props and glass cockpit. Basically a new airplane. It's got the best short field performance of any of the C-130/L-100 models. Guess the guys on the ground were making the plane's landing as "soothing" as possible?

I hope we're not showing them where they can land their planes.

We're not doing this in all the possible places, so I doubt that is the rationale. And I am sure the Chinese are quite aware of the military function of the US interstate infrastructure, so we're not letting any cats out of any bags.

Looks like they are expecting war on our soil this time.

Agreed. The questions now are: Who are the players, and who is on who's side?

I think we need to compile a list of all of the places in the US that they are practicing this, as well as all of the other places in the world that OTHER countries are doing this training. Then see if they have a "Nuclear Sponge" designated for their countries. I'm beginning to think that we are about to see a toss-fest soon.
