For certain items, I'll pay the higher prices. I don't use poison oils at any price. The only oil I will use is extra virgin olive oil, and I use a lot of it. I buy in bulk, so naturally, I expect a higher price. I didn't know it had gone up that much, since I last bought some.
I use so little oil that I do not worry about "poison oils". I don't like the taste of olive oil at all so won't use never mind the price. I will be more choosey about things that I use a lot of but not those I don't use much.

I shop carefully buying only to replace what I've used from my pantry. Since I only shop once a month and seldom find specials, I just buy what I need and pay the price. The same way with gas, I don't look at the price because it is what it is, and I have to have it. Luckily, I only buy gas every other month when I get down to half a tank. Another plus for once-a-month shopping.

Well, here's a new one for you...
Got my groceries at WM this morning. Only 1 check out line open and all the self check outs had long lines. Finally get my stuff scanned, total right at $100 --- I didn't buy very much. The machine wouldn't take my $100 bill, it just kept spitting it out. I had just gotten it from the bank, so I knew it was valid. Customer service finally came and said she would get me some smaller bills.
So I wait, and wait, and figure my ice cream is going to melt, and she finally comes back, and says, "We don't do that." Shoves my money in my hand and walks off. Just nasty, and no explanation.
The poor lady that was in charge of the self check out is really nice and she told me she would lock the register and I could go and see if the bank inside the store would give me some $20's. I told her I would just put it on my credit card and I did. I was mad enough to kick that buggy across the store, but dh doesn't drive anymore and I don't have anybody to get me out of jail...
I gave WM some really nasty feedback but it won't do a bit of good. They have run all the other grocery stores except Aldi, out of business and they have no competition here.

On The Level
Had to make an unexpected grocery run to Hannafords this afternoon. Nurse & Doctor prescribed sour candy.

Some commentary:

They have signs on every door and at the different departments stating they're hiring, on the spot interviews.
Deli was cleaned out of their pre-sliced meats and cheese and only had one younger guy working 1230. Ended up with Kraft singles because I wasn't waiting in line for one guy to serve everyone, and he looked unhappy.
Diet Pepsi 16oz twist off bottles went from $3.99-$4.39 up to $5.49. Skipped it. Trying not to drink the stuff anyway.

What got me the most was piped in Muzak. It was like one of my mid-1980's mix tapes. The Cars, Bon Jovi, Rush.

Try being in a WalMart, on a quiet day, only having a few items to pick up, but otherwise roaming the entire store to see what's new, and you hear for the first time in your life...Dance Monkey.

I'm thinking PBS has a new children's program, and whoever chooses the sound and music for it, is on acid. I likely was making some strange faces and was unaware of it, because I saw a couple other strange faces on people listening to the song.

The 1 gallon bottled water I buy is up another 10 cents at the cheapest store. 2 years ago it was 99 cents. Now I'm paying 1.49 some stores have it marked at 1.99
It's not just the water though everything keeps creeping upward.
Now the stores around me are back to not having certain cuts of meat. Filet mignon, chuck roasts and I havnt seen a watermelon cut rump in years or a boneless pork loin with the nice layer of fat that makes such good gravy.
I remember the super markets back in the 70's here in CA. The whole back of the store one long cold section with every kind of meat you could want.

A simple cheeseburger, medium fries and coke at McD are $6.57 now, apparently.

Just looked at the price of a 12-pack of Cokes at Kroger.
Went up 25% sometime in the last couple of weeks, from $7.99 to $9.99. Used to be $4.99 a year or two ago.
Looks like I'll be buying the Kroger brand at $4.99
Watch out for no name. Awhile back I switched from Pepsi to wm no name, got migraines from it. Turns out they add potassium to the no name.

Just read the labels see if different ingredients

I don't do fast food anymore but 20 years ago when I was on the road I would pull through the nearest Wendy's and get a double cheeseburger, large fries and a coke for less than $5. And I'd also do Subway and I think back then most 6" subs and a coke were also less than $5. Wendy's and Subway were a 'little' more classy than Mc'd or Burger King.

The out of town WalMart continues with the 5 pound bags of chicken drumsticks for $2 each. When I arrived, there was someone with their shopping cart parked in front of the open cooler, looking at them (the price sticker was way over in the back corner, virtually out of sight). There were only 6 bags left, so I took two (all I had room for, to freeze at home). I then pointed to the price, and the man quickly put the rest of the bags in his cart.

I usually hit this store mid-afternoon on a Saturday, about once every month or two. While it is likely the time it is at its absolute busiest, it is also the time when it is at its peak for being re-stocked. I'm in the store for about 1 1/2 hours, and its the first time that I didn't see anyone restocking that empty cooler.

Fresh corn on the cob is in early this year, at 50 cents each. Another store had it for $1/ear (hard pass to begin with, and it was very poor quality), but marked it down to .50/ear as soon as WalMart got their shipment.

McD and to a lesser extent BK are more universally known and comparable although the McD Poland menu is worlds better than the crap served to Americans, but there’s much better fast food restaurants, small local chains all over the US.
McD is literally just the least common denominator.

This isn’t a shortage post but we just got a Dollar Tree here

I went for the first time last week. Snooping their frozen case I spotted a bag of frozen fruit mix of mango, papaya, and pineapples. I love those fruits especially mangos!

I was kind of excited until last night when I took it out for after dinner….

It smelled metallic. One piece of pineapple tasted…metallic

Then, I looked at the bag a little more closely ; product of China

The whole thing smells funny and looks funny.
DH immediately said to throw it out once he saw China
I was planning on doing that myself.

So, heads up on those cheapie purchases.

That’s a reason for food that cheap. I should have looked before I bought it.

I just bought my annual nickel coke - well, two of them, actually, at one nickel per coke - last Wednesday afternoon.

Hasn’t gone up a single penny since I first began the tradition a decade ago.

The backstory: I run or walk the Coke 10K race in Corinth, Mississippi almost every year. (Had to do the virtual race a couple of years when my knees got so bad).

I have gotten to be friends with the Coke employees who do packet pickup.

Out of tradition, I always ask to buy a nickel coke for my favorite wife.

They always go in the back and bring out two.

I place my two nickels on the counter, and they offer to give them back, saying the cokes are on the house, but I insist that I always paid my nickel for my coke when I was a young boy, and am too old to change now.

We laugh. I pick up my racing packet and my two cokes, and head back to Memphis to ready myself for Saturday’s race.

Oh, BTW Southern Breeze and Carey, assuming my wife is still feeling well, I am headed your way this coming Saturday to walk the GumTree 10K.

The Gum Tree Festival is a huge event every year. I wish you much success in your race! Fine wines and dining are all on the venue as well. Arts and crafts, and a lot more. There's a Gumball Bash each night with live music, partying, and dancing in the street downtown. You need to be ready for a huge crowd, unless it's raining.

Don't screw with an engineer
If his initial figure claim is accurate vs. just a guesstimate we are indeed screwed considering the current trends.

I don't doubt it. Our Friday night grocery run (before I got laid off) was $300-400 recently. This does not include the weekly trips every couple of days averaging over $100/each. There are only 3 of us.
A couple of years ago, $200 on grocery night packed the cart. Now, it's slim at twice that.

Hahaha! All junk food except for the bread (and that's a stretch but I'll be generous), the bacon, eggs and the milk.
Unbelievable if people shop that way, because junk food has gone up like crazy.

Around here, people on welfare and food stamps only buy junk food and stuff you can stick in the microwave. Almost all of them have cars that are less than 6 mos old though.

I have been telling my lovely bride for the past 3 years buying in bulk is paying off better than my IRA. I have never lost money buying food to set back.

Were I to win the lottery right now I would sacrifice the garage for a walk-in freezer with a dedicated propane-powered genset. I would have it filled as fast as I could find decent sales.

White vinegar at my wm is 3.74, but the store brand of apple cider is 6.14. I guess its a good thing I don't take baths anymore because I always poured a generous amount in my bath water, (I have to take showers now because its too hard to get in and out of the tub, crappy mobile home tub).

True that most of his picks were junk food, but the main point was the steep rise in all prices. "Official" price indexes are a sad joke and do not reflect real world prices

Not that long ago, I could buy locally grown green bell peppers for 10 cents each. Now Hy-Vee wants a $1.50 each.

Thanks for the warning.

Whereas I have been doing the Coke 10K for years, this is my first year doing the GumTree 10K.

I usually do the Strawberry Festival 10K in Humboldt, TN the second weekend in May, but decided to do the GumTree instead this year.

Boy, am I glad you clarified the issue about the baths.
