Chicken, crackers and cereal seem to be in short supply at Wallyworld...no frozen fries of any type either. We do have canning jars and lids at the moment.

Aldi's ad today has chicken hind quarters for 49¢ a pound in 10# bags. I don't need any but would typically buy 20# to cook and can. Rare bargains like this should be snapped up. I have many pints of home canned chicken so really do not need to do more. In past, I've also bought the chicken hind quarters and cut them into legs and thighs to freeze in serving sized packages. The backs and other trimmings are then boiled and made into broth. A very good bargain either way.

I couldn't find Duke's mayo at my walmart, so I went online. I always only buy from retailer "Walmart", no pro-sellers (I got scammed once by a pro-seller, they sent an empty package. And even tho Walmart made it right, it was a hassle).

Almost nothing except lo-sugar or olive oil. Then I spotted a jar for $10.28, expensive but ok I bought two. They came a couple of days ago, and they're GALLONS. Omg, what am I going to do with gallons of mayo :shr: .
I have a yummy recipe for you. So DELICIOUS you won't be able to stop eating it! It's like a sweet fruit salad: Grated carrots, Grated coconut, cut up dates and enough mayo or salad dressing to your taste. Mix good. It is SO good!!
The bleach i was talking about was on the shelf, in the Fred Meyer store, Not third party! $5 for a half gallon.
WINE is cheaper than bleach!
So we should all buy wine and get drunk then!
Was at Wally World today. No spaghetti, (Zip, Neine, None, Zero) and no bags of noodles at all. They had just a few boxes of those shells and about 50 cartons of lasagna noodles. I was wanting some angel hair for my shrimp scampi this weekend but I guess it'll be over rice.
That's it I'm buying more pasta tomorrow!! Found the perfect container. Those huge plastic jars of corn puffs. Wipe out. Perfect to store pasta.
Not exactly food, but I went to Tractor Supply today for kitty litter ... they had exactly TWO pails... the 20 foot long, 3 shelves aisle was otherwise empty!

I told hubby if I could have gotten help to load them, I would have bought both! Darned shop cats- mother and daughter- are super uunters, but in hubby's words, "they sh!t like heifers" LOL! Sure hope Tractor Supply will have some when this pail runs out. I figure Chewy's prices have to be higher to cover shipping, but I'll check.

you can buy those huge bags of wood pellets they use for horse beds. Breaks up into litter. Add some rug powder. Biodegradable. Cheap at $6 for I think 40 lbs. Clay litter is so Heavy! I stopped using it. The store always loads it for me. I can't carry heavy so I leave it in the van and scoop out a small pail when needed.

Random side note -
Friend recommended to me (and it’s delicious) - bologna sandwich with Dukes mayo and bread and butter pickles. SO good. (She is a longtime employee of Sauers, the company that makes Dukes and has lots of recipes she’s recommended over the years. All yummy)

Smith's NE NV last night. It wasn't my usual shopping time, so I think weekly comparisons of what's available aren't quite accurate, but stock on shelves is lower.

There were only a couple of boxes of ramen--maybe 10% of the shelf space allocated for it. Pasta was thinner than last week, and last week was thin. We will definitely be growing a lot more zucchini this year to have zucchini noodles. (Good stuff--watch for veggie spiralizers at thrift stores.)

Tube dough almost non-existent again. Deli meats looking thin. Holy cow, store brand butter is now $3.69/lb. Whole milk is $3.19/gallon.

There were more canning supplies on the shelves. No one is buying the regular Kerr canning lids since they jacked the price to $3.99 a couple of months ago.

The employee who manages all the clearance/discontinued items pricing stopped me last night. She said she's got loads more in back, but can't bring it out because what's in the shopping carts at the front of the store isn't moving. I wanted to quip "it's because the prices are still too high!" but she's a nice lady so I kept my mouth shut.

I haven't found any consistent category wide supply issues but there are a few brand-related ones so, seeing unfamiliar brand names & 'innovating pricing' which drive up per unit prices.
Regular branded gas is posted at 3.50-3.75, diesel @ 4.00ish

Did an Instacart order at Von's CA high desert. Had everything out of 25 items but I think that is because I know what not to ask for. One substitute Italian Sweet sausage for Italian mild. The most noticeable shortages seem to be in frozen food selection. Very short on Hungry Man and Stouffers dinners. No more Healthy Choice Dinners some of their bowls. Poor selection overall.

Everyone, with everything going on in the Ukraine/Russia conflict, please keep an eye on the stores as you go in today and the next few days. As things get worse, it is possible (or even likely) that people will start panicking at the stores. Be aware for your safety, but if you see an uptick in people freaking out and buying way more than normal or way longer lines than typical for checking out, please let us know here.

I never go inside since I do curbside. With everything going on, plus I don't need much, I'll go inside and report back. I hate this is coming up now with my move ahead of me. I am going to take as much as I can with me but will end up giving a lot of my preps away. I am hoping DD#2 can come out from LA before the move so I can give them to her and her roommates.

I typically do curbside almost exclusively now. Although, if it is calm I will be going in today for a couple of fresh items. If you do not want to go inside, I have learned that there is a lot you can see by watching people & carts exiting the building and watching cars in the parking lot -- all while waiting for curbside to come out.

:)

I people watch too while waiting!! I haven't seen what I would call a lot of panic but with this new sh!t show starting that probably will change. If I walk in and it's panic time I'll walk out and order what I need for pickup later.

ETA: I always buy the same bag of Pedigree dog food on Amazon for $19.98. I just checked and since I bought some last week it's now $21.49.

I'm mostly shopping for fresh fruit and veggies, which have gone up several cents, but no increases like that of TP or snack products. I expect that to change soon as gas prices increase.

I'm trying to keep my immune system robust, so I'll pay the higher prices. I'd rather put $5 into apples rather than a tiny bag of potato chips.

We eat healthy at least 95% of the time. I'm just amazed how much different items are increasing in price.

I can tell you one thing for sure. As we have a lot of clients who have been with us for years and once or twice a day they are whispering to my mother how they are now buying two of something when they only needed one.

Another story about cat food.

A client today said the went to 3 stores to get what she needed. That she bought everything she saw.

Just went to a local HEB. The parking lot was about normal for lunch time during mid-week. The store was similarly stocked the same as I've seen it the last few times I've gone in recently. There was no urgency and no one seemed to be reacting any different than normal.

Interesting note: I had a 3 very quick "how's it going?" conversations with people (one customer in store, one store employee, and someone filling up their gas tank). In each, I made sure how crazy "the thing in Ukraine" was and each time I got a blank stare, and I followed up by saying something like "Russia attacking them" or "the war with Russia". All three had NO IDEA that it was going on. [I'm going to post this part to the Russia/Ukraine war thread (link below). If you want to comment on it, let's talk about that there. I want to keep this thread focused on the shortages/prices/etc. I mention it only because it may relevant to why no one is freaking out... yet.]

Sounds like what I encounter.

At work.

They’re ignorant and literally clueless, but you can count on them being glued to their tik tok and cell phones!

Hey I resemble that remark!:rofl::rofl:

In reality though, I am about to go meet coworkers for lunch. All but one fairly conservative. We'll see what they think. The one who is not conservative is not really liberal but more middle of the road.

I noticed My HEB has a security guard out front. I've never seen one there before. (South Central Texas)

Literally didn't even talk politics or war and it was refreshing! I will definitely miss these people when I move.

Why don’t you and all the other vinegarized white snot lovers just get an IV bag, fill it with you favorite vinegarized white snot, stick a needle in your arms and mainline it.

Disgusting :kk1:
