Went to national grocery chain affiliate today in Southern TX Panhandle and they were out of green onions in the regular veggie section. Had plenty in the organic foods section at 40 cents more.

My Indiana Kroger is still well stocked.
It’s the prices I see every day that put me in a tizzy!
I don’t think I really saw any actual holes yesterday, but then again, I was in a huge hurry and was only able to buzz the main areas to grab a couple of thing.
The ONLY deal I saw were Kroger brand skin on chicken thighs. I believe the sale was .99 /lb. I grabbed one with the intention to go back for more after work today or tomorrow.

I need to take paper with me next time to write these price jumps down for you all.

But it’s bad, across the board.

The normal price for KROGER 10 LB LEG AND THIGHS IS $.69 A LB
So, if you buy 20 lb of leg and thighs, you pay $13.80 and get 10 lb of thighs and 10 lb of legs. Instead of paying $9.90 and only getting 10 lb of thighs, you get 20 lb of chicken meat, for only $3.90 more you get your 10 lb of thighs AND 10 lb of legs!
That way, you are only paying $.39 lb for the legs!

At least he got one. In 2020, major appliances of all kinds were impossible to find.
I have a story to tell about NOW buying a freezer from Wal mart, but I am in the middle of it, it's a bucket of worms, and dont know how it will resolve. I will tell you later after it all is resolved.

ONE WARNING- DONT BUY A FREEZER FROM A THIRD PARTY VENDOR ON THE WALMART SITE!!! YOU HAVE to be alert, it looks just like their Walmart ads!
You cant cancel the purchase or get a refund easily if it is third party! And there are tight rules for EXPENSIVE third party purchases!

We went grocery shopping, yesterday at Walmart. Tupelo, MS. area. The store was pretty well stocked, but the shelves were a bit thin in spots. The only totally empty spots were for dry dog food and tapered candles. I noticed the candles, because I wanted to add to my stock of them. I bought 2 jar candles, instead. Prices were out of sight to the point that it's beginning to get scary, but what do you do? I managed to get everything on my list and added some things extra for storage.

Our area, up until now, has seemed to be spared from most of the shortages that other places in the country are experiencing, but it's beginning to show up here, too, at least at our local Walmart.

BUY CANDLE WICKING IN DIFFERENT
SIZES ON E BAY.

IF A CANDLE SAYS IT BURNS A LONG TIME THAT MEANS IT PUTS OUT
almost NO LIGHT OR HEAT!
with a microscopic flame! skinny wick= tiny flame!

THE WICK SIZE CONTROLS THE LIGHT AND HEAT OUT PUT. You can change the wick in a candle with a heated , metal, knitting needle.

You can also turn a beer or wine bottle into an emergency light with vegetable oil kerosene or lamp oil ( liquid paraffin wax.) with THIS:

I was at Fleet Farm (N MN) yesterday and their aisle of Science Diet dry dog food was extremely minimal. Seems they are still stocking the basics (my puppy chow, regular adult, etc.) but the oddball specialty stuff was more or less empty. Never saw it that bad before. Haha..and a 30lb bag of Science Diet dry puppy was $70.99.

Gads. The dawg princess might be heading for a diet of eggy pancakes and gravy before this thing is over.

Also, ++ on the Walmart jar candles. I add one to every pickup order from them to build a stock. They are safe, nice smells, and for a 20-ish oz. candle, still around $6.00. Enough light in the main part of the house of an evening that you don't HAVE to have a light on. I have plenty of LED's, oil lamps and lamp fuel, but who knows how long all this BS is going to last. Months. Years.

If you haven’t already, you can contest the charge with Visa if you have a Visa card.

Lowes really messed up my delivery by using a delivery service who sent out some guys who didn’t know what they were doing. They damaged my floor and plumbing.

Lowes ignored me so I went straight to Visa and they took care of everything, reversed the charge and I ended up with a free washer and dryer.

Visa has Always come through when I contested a charge.

If I was going through with what you’re experiencing with a third party charge, I wouldn’t hesitate one second calling Visa right now.

You have a very legitimate reason fir contesting this charge. V

I haven't been to the store in a couple of weeks (walmart). I can't think of anything I need, or really even want. I do have a couple of things on my list, like yogurt, but I can live without it. I would like some more instant grits in the packets, but the boxes have gone up more than $2.00.

Walmart stopped delivering basic canned foods back in the spring. Things that I bought regularly to be delivered and then nothing to speak of to be delivered. I already had a supply and I replace when I'm in the store. Pickled beets were .96 each and now they are 1.08. The Del Monte canned zucchini that I like was 1.24 and now its 1.94. Chicken brother was under a dollare and now its 1.24. Goya ham seasoning use to be around 1.00, then it went to 1.54 and now its 2.54 a box. And try to find more than a canister of corn meal in the store, haha, I haven't seen corn meal in a 5# bag in the store in the longest time. But I have gotten it online, but now they are out of stock.

I was on a few minutes ago setting up a Walmart pickup for late in the week when I'm going into town. As I was checking the "Yes/No" substitution page, a pop-up box appeared that they are now charging the substitute item's regular price instead of the price of the item you ordered and they didn't have. Makes you think twice about some of the things on your order.

I didn't need any dog food, but I buy our dog lots of treats at Walmart and TSC. Since I was right there in the dog food and treat section, there was absolutely no dry food at all. That's the first time I've ever seen it completely empty. There were plenty of treats, so I stocked up on them in case they begin to get scarce, too.

Ya just never know how long oil lamp will last, so I've been stocking candles of all types for years. I love the jar candles the best, but they take up more room trying to find a place to store them. I use lots of tapered candles and jars candles, now, for home decor, but I don't have room to store many more in jars. I bought the larger jar candles, and had to pay $11+ each for them. There were some that were $17 each. I couldn't pay that.

I've stocked up on the religious candles from dollar tree, no scented candles for me, makes me sick.

I was just checking out dog food on line at walmart. Last time I ordered was the middle of August, so I'm still in good shape. I paid $23 for 50# and now its $34 for 46# but its out of stock, it is coming from 3rd party sellers. We supplement with left overs. I still have some treats from Dollar Tree but she does not get them every day.

I boil water and cover the kibble. The kibble expands and softens. After it cools off, I add whatever I have on hand for flavor. The dogs fill up faster on less actual kibble. The younger ones with teeth get a hard kibble snack before bed.

My grandparents did this with generic dog food to good effect.

Everything is cheap in the whole country, compared to the coasts.
If one lives close enough to the poorer areas near the coasts, but still far enough from the crime, things are cheap there, too. About 1 to 2 times a month, I'll venture there in the middle of the day.

These poor areas near me have mostly young Hispanic working families and older retired Ukrainian immigrants. If there are any hoodlums, they come out at night.

Soon as that started I go through and pick what they can substitute which is almost nothing. I noticed it on the last pickup order last week.

I order on their online and the go in and pick up every other week. It’s almost always the same things.

It’s pretty much just salt free canned goods and a few other basics

I buy these protein bars called RX. At Walmart, a pack of 10 is $17. At Costco the same brand was 14 for $10. Costco had an instant $5 off coupon.

Also, I love the canned chicken from Costco. It has held its price for a long time.. 6 cans for $16 something. Every time I go in there, it doesn’t change. Still the same today. I have bought a crap ton of that. 2 cans make a meal for my hubby and I.

Last thing, I purchased new tires at Costco today. The guy said I still have time left on the tires. I told him I know there’s a tire shortage and I want news ones. He confirmed that there’s a tire shortage. Several people at the counter have to wait at least a week. Mine are 1 1/2 weeks out, then a week to get in to get them changed out.

I absolutely Love the Costco brand canned chicken!

It’s packed full of white meat breast meat, unlike Hormel and the other brands at the grocery store which are packed more with liquid, flubber and effluvia that once I have to painstakingly pick out, there’s not much meat left.

My fave ‘go to’ Keto eats is my chicken salad.

I just squeeze out the liquid really good from the Costco canned chicken, add mayo and fine diced celery and that’s it!

No seasoning needed in this chicken salad since the celery adds just the right amount of flavoring from the ‘celery salt’ in the celery.

Everyone loves it so much that I keep a ready supply in the fridge. V

I found a list of then10 best keto canned chicken and Costco’s was 3rd. I’m shocked it hasn’t gone up in price. It’s delicious! So, we’re storing a butt load of them.

Shrinkage -- yesterday I purchased my usual package of 12 rolls of So Soft bathroom tissue at Aldi. When I put it on the shelf, the package was noticeably smaller, so I looked at the package and it went from 338.66 sq. ft. to 321.7 sq. ft. and the size of the individual squares went from 4 x 4 to 3.8 x 4.0. Package is still labeled as Jumbo 12 rolls equal to 26 rolls. Guess that means the 26-roll package has shrunk too.

Shrinkage over the years is obvious when you put a roll of TP on the TP holder and it only takes up about 2/3 of it. I’m guessing the newer holders are much more narrow.

Yep. They say "giant" or "mega" rolls, but guaranteed to still fit holders.

Well, yeah, that's because those mega rolls are merely relabeled from what used to be normal-sized rolls. We get the "12=48" Charmin packs. I've never actually seen the new "normal" rolls that are supposed to be 1/4 the size of the megas.

Stopped at a Brookshire Bros grocery store today for some paper products and a few cans of vegetables. Oh my gosh! Granted, stores in more rural areas tend to have higher prices due to their remoteness, but wow. Canned corn was $1.49 for Del Monte and $1.09 for a store brand. Thankfully, we got some at Aldi's on our shopping trip last week, it was 58 cents a can.
