I said I'm afraid not to keep up my stocks. I think this is going to get worse.
I'm considered essential personnel and have to be out in the idiots anyway.

Well, your call of course. Being stocked up so you can avoid the stores would remove that part of your risk, instead of adding to it. Sorry about the essential personnel part.

Why are you going to stores at all?
I go to see what is going on for the rest of the town. We don't need anything, and I'm not buying anything. I want to know when break-ins will spike again, and when I should start worrying about the livestock getting stolen. Gates are locked, but anyone can climb a 5' fence.

Also, I go for the walk. Daily outdoor exercise is important. I don't need to "shelter" from anything until the Zombie hoards get dangerous. F***k these Goddamn two-bit official Safety tyrants!

I just did a Walmart run with a short shopping list of "no panic" items. Potting soil, peat seed starter pots, starter fluid in case I need the generator which I haven't started in months, one of my vitamins, 20 ga shotgun shells, a cucumber, a head of cabbage and decaf coffee. I even got an 18 roll pack of TP for my DGI best friend.

The store seemed surprisingly well stocked(except for the TP which was going out fast) and the other customers were all pleasant. I was out, done and back in less than an hour.

I figured I’d try to get my GD involved in sewing some face masks. I was surprised to find Joann Fabrics open, so I went in. No elastic. :(

Quick grocery run yielded no yeast!

And finally, why do these grocery stores think that seniors want to shop AT 6:00 AM????

Just a note on yeast. I checked eBay last night and there are a lot of sellers selling wine yeast. You can make wine with bread yeast. Is there any reason you couldn't make bread with wine yeast?

On another Amazon note, "non-essential" products (however they might be determining that) are not shipping for another month. My dehydrator died, unfortunately. I popped on to buy another one, and none are shipping before April 22.
I wanted a dough blade...the ones you use to cut bread dough for rolls. Amazon wouldn't ship it till April 21. Went over to Ebay and bought the same one same price, free shipping and it shipped out that day.

Ordered grow lights from Amazon and got them in the 2 day period. So I can't figure out their essential thing.

What Amazon said was that they aren't taking DELIVERY from third parties if it isn't corona related. If Amazon has it stocked, they sell it just like everything else. They didn't say they won't sell/ship anything that isn't corona related.

At 6 am they have just cleaned and restocked the store. Hordes of shoppers have not been through. Stores are trying to maximize safety and availability of products. If you are inconvenienced by the time, just go later, as long as you don't mind a greater risk factor and less products.

This too shall pass.
I had to be in our Walmart today to pick up medications for my daughter. Since we were there, I picked up a few more odds and ends, including ice cream to go with her birthday cake (she turned forty yesterday - it’s hard to believe my baby is that old. We’ll have the cake and ice cream tomorrow, hopefully, depending on how she’s feeling). I didn’t walk around too much because I just wanted to get out of there, but it looked fairly well stocked in most areas.

On our way back to the truck, I noticed that they’ve made designated parking areas for order pick-up, finally! We’ve had that at Kroger, but our Walmart was supposed to get it last fall. I will make use of that next time we need to pick anything up.

They’re still shipping, yes... but it’s on a one-month delay.

I'm making lentils and rice in crock pot. half cup rice, cup lentils, can corn, can tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, olive oil and a half stick butter. Comes out good. When i put in a whole cup of rice too thick. Came out good and soupy. Now if i can only find some darn crackers! We had it easy 2 months ago!

yummy! I love lentils. cook mine with some ham and bay leaves a bit of sage, some onions, celery, few potatoes if you like, and a pinch of cinnamon. I put a small pinch of cinnamon in everything and makes everything a bit more tasty.

my hubby does not have specific store hours for Seniors, yet. the reason they are giving Seniors the store first is because there is no point in the day that the store is going to be that clean. The stores want the Seniors to be able to come in and shop with the least risk of exposure.

If its too early....too bad!!! These store workers are there helping everyone and getting a lot of flak for things not being in stock. Be glad the stores are setting aside special hours at all!

Not at MY Walmart. Cleaned, sure. Stocked, no.

This. With daylight savings time in effect, it is still pitch dark at 7AM here. I don't go out and about in the dark by myself anymore, it doesn't feel safe and it's difficult for me to see well enough to drive in the dark. Where I live, there are no street lights until you get close to town and there are many critters who run across the road in front of cars while its dark.
Those critters are breakfast.

Reports that I'm getting from other seniors I know are saying that there isn't any reason to use the early store hours, because when they get there, there is still nothing on the shelves. This is at Walmart.
Made a trip to Sam’s club in Tupelo MS this morning. Still lots of empty spots
But they did have tp and paper towels, limit 1.
Hardly no one in store, in and out in just a few minutes.

We haven't been to Sam's in Tupelo in 4 weeks. Thanks for that report. Been wondering how our Sam's was doing. We're still hunkered down, here.

Results from today's walk: Local small grocery in NM was stocked. I bought a loaf of bread for the ratties (I can't eat wheat), and had a brief chat with the checkout lady who was pissed about all the closures and locking down. She said her family live in NC, and they are under 10pm to 6am cerfiew (spell?).

Poked my head in the Family Dollar. Sign on the door says, "Only 5 customers allowed in at a time." There were at least eight people standing in line for one checker. Wasn't going to risk that.

Went to a kroger in east tn around 10am ish or so today, had some early stuff to check on and once out and about just kept cruising. Early morning rush was gone.

Other than regular normal bleach, you could get whatever you wanted there. They had limits. They had splashless bleach, and some with normal bleach for laundry could put splashless in laundry and regular bleach in cleaning routine.

Yeast, yup. Think it was dry. Packs of 3 for a bit over a buck. I bought a bunch but did not clean it out. I finally bought toilet paper during this shortage, mostly cause I could. I got a lot. But this is first time I saw bulk packs in decent quantity.

Bread already made. Flour. Sugar. Pineapple juice in little cans cause people say it works like mucinex. Tons of stuff in pharmacy cause krogers is high priced on that stuff.

Overall the regular plain bleach is all that was missing and I figure walmart pool supplies would have it if you had to have it.

I did not buy all the above, but I did restock stuff that does not keep short term for me right now. I probably should raise some taters and onions or do better on storing store bought ones. Same with some other veggies and beer.

Local BiMart South Oregon had hand sanitizer and gloves back in stock . Fred Meyer has coldezze back in stock. Haven’t seen Walmart but higher end stores like Albertsons Fred M pretty well restocked except for paper items. But what is on shelves is all there is, no back stock in back rooms not even soda (normally 3 to 4 pallets of food stuff and 10 pallets of drinks).

I've been impressed with HEB during this unpleasant time. Here is an article about how they did it.

I try to keep in mind that no matter how much i read and plan the future will be unlike anything i expected. Maybe not better or worse but different.
The article also made me think about the employees that are still plugging away. Has anyone seen reports of employees bugging out? In my area i haven't noticed a lack of employees but i would imagine when bodies start piling up and people get their government check, the retail pay may not be worth the risk.

I went to Kroger, Aldis, and WM today.
Kroger: Best stocked they've been in 3 weeks. Limited paper products. Otherwise fairly well stocked.
Aldis: Well stocked. Had paper products, but people were buying it right and left. I'm sure it didn't last all day. Cashier said what they get in each day varies, but Aldis (corporate) was really trying to keep things stocked. Their was a line for opening of about 16 people.
WM: No paper products, very limited cleaning products. I was pleasantly surprised to see meats were decently stocked. They were getting more bags of beans, rice, ect. It was encouraging to see fewer "holes" in their supply.
Also, the car wash was open! They had cones between the spots where you vacuum for spacing.
Honestly, I'm over the whole quarantine thing. I'm not buying the hype. (Don't want to argue about it either.) I think this virus has been in the states since at least December.

I give up.
Florida -- Winn-Dixie:
Just got back from a store run -- got 2 weeks worth of stuff so we don't have to go out. Went to the service desk first to get cigs; they were out of some of the big name brands, but still had my 305's, which ain't bad. Then wandered around a bit. They were totally out of paper products for the first time ever; and no hand sanitizer. No white bread; I got rye and whole wheat Italian. Out of eggs except for some fancy ones in the little 6-pack. I got two - cost me $3.78 for that. They had spring water, we got a 24-pack but it was $5.00. Not cheap.

Everything else seemed OK, but I didn't go down every aisle. All the clerks were like, "Where have you been?" I just said trying to stay away from the virus. None of them said they've felt sick at all and they were the regulars, so I don't know, maybe they've built up their immunity or something. At least I got out of the house.

We wiped everything down at home and each took a shower, washed our hair, and changed our clothes.

ETA: Our checker was wearing gloves, but I didn't see anyone wearing masks. They didn't have the new partitions.

So I prep firewood like I prep everything else. I have a several year supply of firewood put up but every other week I spend a half a day
getting and storing a pickup load of wood. Today was firewood day

Be aware I'm sore and drinking so I thus will be drunk posting

Since I was out and about and it is part of my usual firewood day journeys I swung by Walmart to pick up a few items on my list. I have not been out of the house and to town for over a week and my list of food items I needed was basically nil, thank you prepping. Other then beer, oj, chips and fresh produce I didn't really have anything I wanted and I would have skipped the stop it the parking lot had been a mad house. It wasn't.

Everything food wise in the store looked much better then when I was last there over a week ago. Since the store wasn't all that crowded I cruised up and down most of the food aisles.

OJ was about 3/4 filled and I got my preferred brand and style.
Lots of bottled water and sodas. Chip aisle looked fully stocked but they did not have my lightly salted gv chips. Nor did they have the cape cod brand lightly salted chips. So mission fail on the chips. Cookie and cereal aisle look good. Canned meat had a few holes but was mostly stocked. Same with pasta. Rice was lacking in the normal bagged rice but they had plenty of the instant and flavored rice. Pasta sauce and salsa was about 1/4 filled but I was able to pick up 3 jars of my preferred salsa to refill my stocks.

They had plenty of flour if you wanted all purpose, several brands in fact. Bread aisle look fully stocked but all I did was glance down the row.

Cheese, lunch meat and bacon looked about 1/2 stocked. Regular meat, beef/pork/chicken seemed decently stocked.

A quick glance would have given you the impression that the frozen stuff was good but since I had gone down that row you could tell that it had been hit. But they had filled the holes with weird things they had extra of. So if you want some creame pie today was the day to buy it because they had it in several areas of the freezer case. Ice cream was ok but they were limited on flavors.

Produce looked like it was normal. Nothing appeared missing but I didn't spend much time there as it was the most crowded area of the store. So I grabbed what I wanted and left.

Beer and wine area looked fully stocked and I got my desired beer.

Paided $1.69 for gas but I only needed less then 3 gallons. I'm keeping the tanks topped off in the vehicles just in case.

While driving back home I went through town past several restaurants. Most had signs up saying they are doing takeout but a couple were closed that normally should be opened. A few looked like they were still opened for sit down meals. One sit down place had cars in the parking lot so some people must still be dining in.

tbd

Edit to add walmart had both tp and bleach. Not a lot but it was available.

Don't want to start a war,but you sound more like part of the problem, not part of the solution.

No war but in all honesty screw the tyrants. The truth is the best way this would have been to handle it was to have those most at risk to self isolate, same they should do for any pandemic, and let everyone else alone to build herd immunity. It would have worked faster and cost a hella lot less. Mortality rate of actual cases would have been cut exponentially. Services wouldn't be in short supply and supplies wouldn't have been panic stripped either.

The reality is that this stuff is here to stay. There isn't going to be a vaccine at least for 18 months and more than likely never because of the type of virus it is. You can't stay hidden forever. You can't live in fear 24/7/365 for however many years you have left. Eventually you have to come out of your hermitically sealed bubbled. And this stuff is still going to be here. It is now part of our life and you need to deal with that fact constructively instead of so many people wanting the gov to climb up your butt and take care of your crap for you.

Trump was set up into creating this virus panic. The death rate isn't much higher than the typical flu season.

Italian studies show that most of the deaths [60/40] are male and are definitely skewed to patients with one to three pre-existing chronic serious conditions. Some Italian researchers claim the patients were so weak that half would have died anyway. Assistance should have been given to the elderly to be isolated, with attention given to their medical and food needs.

By following this bad advice, Trump has destroyed the economy. Many small businesses are going under and will never re-open their doors. With each passing day, conditions worsen. How much damage has been done will be revealed over the next weeks and months.

It will take a political miracle for Trump to be re-elected.
