PREP Prepared for violence?

Okay, I seem to be full of questions today.

Yesterday, I was speaking to the AC guy, ( our back up unit crashed ). and we were speaking about the last hurricane and who left and who stayed.

It went sideways a bit and we began to discuss guns and being prepared for violence.

For a side note I am speaking to a minority that is likely to get shot first even if he was wearing a suit while I am running naked down the street covered in blood waving a machete. IE: he is black

The conversation boiled down to the following:

a) Though he has a gun, it is not loaded, he has no ammo and never carries it.
b) He doesn't know anyone who actually carries a gun who is not a criminal
c) He actually thinks it is not needed to carry a gun for protection.

So my question how many of us actually carry a gun when ever they leave the house?

I know Dennis does as do I. My wife didn't but we just got her a gun, so she is now doing it. How many of us do otherwise?

Thanks!

Prepared for deee fence not violence. Violence is result of me forced into defense. I knew what you meant.

Theis holsters had a motto on business card I saw once. "Always carry, never tell" :)

If I walk out the door, I'm armed with an SP101, loaded, with two speedloaders, on a duty belt. (And yes, they make duty belts for people as fat as me.)

I carry when I leave the house for the most part. It's an emergency device. For the most part you won't need it, but if you ever need it, you will NEED it.

I carry in the house as well,i am never unarmed. If there is a home invasion i don't think it would do much good to call time out while i go get my gun.

I used to carry in the shower...paranoid you say?

where are you most vulnerable? hhhmmm?

also, your best defense if you cannot extricate is absolute aggression and unstopping assault on the perpetrator of violence towards you.

knock em of balance so to say.. YMMV

45 on my person.

AR & two German Shepherds in the truck.

How long did it take to teach the GS's to shoot an AR :D

My wife asked why I carry a gun around the house.

I looked her dead in the eye and said, “the mother****ing decepticons”. She laughed, I laughed, the toaster laughed, I shot the toaster, it was a good time.

Only places I don't carry is in to work, on the local public school grounds, and inside the bank.

Oh - and the shower. It's on the toilet seat then.

Hubby is the same ( doesn't carry in to my work; does at his.)

Every day and every where I go (even those places with the ridiculous signs).
Had a retired cop I met at a garage sale last weekend, say he was happy to see me carrying (holster was peaking out from my shirt).

That is until I had that recent boating accident and lost everything …. ;) That's for the boss! :)

Yes, unless I am going to a government building for some reason. Also I keep a rifle and spare mags/ammo in my truck.

Most of the time but not all the time. I carry at work as I work a security detail. I always carry in my vehicle. At home I have ready weapons in various outbuildings but I don't usually wear a pistol on my belt when I'm mowing the grass or working in the yard. And of course I respect the limitations of the permit and don't carry in the post office or other prohibited venues. I just usually don't go anywhere where the weapons are not allowed.

That's a good distinction. I've suffered huge time-consuming aggravation so I didn't carry into school or PO property.

This^^^ pretty much describes what I do.
Here in Florida the law is pretty specific about places you can't carry.
As far as those signs on business doors, they legally mean nothing.

If it's not too much thread drift, I'd like to add a further question to the OP.
How many people here have actually had to draw down or even fire at someone apart from the military or a LEO or security job?

Non-mil never. And I've never had to draw on my security job. I have a quik holster built into my duty bag which is never more than 10' away from me so I usually don't even wear on a holster at work. I'm usually in a guard shack and I have time to retrieve if the spidey senses go off. I've retrieved a few times at work on the overnight shift when a vehicle would approach in a suspicious manner but in 18 years now have never had a real incident. Fortunately I live in a low threat environment. Of course if things get more tense in the meat world I'll adjust my posture accordingly.

One aftenoon I had 3 meth heads drive up my driveway setting off my driveway alarm, 2 got out and went over near my pole barn. I walked out on my deck carrying an AR with my 2 dogs with me doing the barking and slobbering thing that dogs do when they get excited. After I yelled at them I flashed them and the car with the rifle so I could see them and the car better with my 3x magnifier. I was mainly worried about the one in the car having a long gun as the 2 near the pole barn if armed could only have pistols if anything . They quickly ran back to their car and said they were looking for a self storage building and drove off. I gave their plate info to the sheriffs office. I noticed a couple of weeks later their pictures, the 2 I saw out of the car, were in the paper having been arrested for burglary.

Does that count

It goes wherever I go including church. On the side table next to me when watching TV in the evening. On the nightstand when sleeping ( another one in the drawer of the nightstand. And a loaded 12 gage in the closet in the bedroom. Leaving for dinner with friends shortly. Will carry in the restaurant even if there is a sign!!

I have a friend that keeps a stainless .357 in his shower, " just in case ".

I have another friend that when talking about paranoid, he says " Paranoid is just another word for acute awareness !"

Think what you want.

Yes, that would be me. I was home alone, when 3 drunk men drove up to my house. One got out, and was approaching me, threatening to do me bodily harm. I was carrying, and drew down on him. He laughed, so I fired a shot of warning, They sobered up really quick. Man got back into the truck and they left. I was using my S&W .357 at the time. My carry weapon of choice, today, is a much lighter weight.
