With the neighbor concentrating to hard on you guys with the cameras all pointed at your house, I have to wonder if the guy is a voyeur.

Also, the next time he tries to threaten you even via the RING device, make sure you take a vid of the direction it's coming from, even if there is no action there, you will have his voice on the vid. And keep doing this.

And go to your local PD and just have a talk with a supervisor just telling him/her that you have some very strong concerns as to the mental state of (neighbor's name) and then let them hear all the ranting and raving from the vid you recorded them on and tell them that you just wanted to let them know what has been going on and that the neighbor does not seem mentally stable.

That way, you've planted a 'seed' in their minds about the neighbor and even though they don't right down a report, the neighbor will be now considered maybe a bit of a threat to police.

Remember, the first one who calls/approaches a situation with the police is always believed and also, research has shown that people always believe the first thing they hear about someone, even if they've never met them.

It's all just human nature, so you have to start being proactive like Right Now, to establish yourselves as being the sane ones, if that nutball next door decides to make a false accusation on you and calls the cops.

I'm only saying all this, because I've seen your scenario play out before and I was lucky to stand on the sidelines, observe and learn what to do with a person like the guy next door. V

THIS. That is the first thing I thought of. YOU be the first to go to the police---even better if you go to the local PD and have a talk with not just an officer but an upper-echelon (sergeant or chief) person, quietly and rationally, describing your concerns and (even) asking their advice as how to best handle this.

EMPHASIZE how you USED to be on good terms with this neighbor and don't understand the sudden change.

ASK them to record your concerns in a report, as well as for their advice.

Tell them you fear not only his calling the police, but whether he might PERSONALLY try to retaliate against you (you're painting him as unstable and paranoid is the point)

They wouldn't allow a privacy fence?

We both have privacy fences up to the allowed point on our property. I.e., you can’t have it come all the way up to the front of your house. Where ours ends is a gate to our backyard; his ends at his driveway.

I'm going to go in the opposite direction with this suggestion.

Why not ask him why the change in attitude? You guys started out friendly and then he did an abrupt 180. Something set him off, and since you don't know what it is, it's probably some mistaken idea he has about you. Maybe someone reported him to the HOA and he thinks it's you. Maybe a short, friendly conversation can straighten it all out. And if it doesn't, then you know for sure where you stand and can go from there (I like the idea of tall hedges/bushes along the property line if it turns out its not some miscommunication and the guy is just impossible).

Good luck and I will add my prayers for the situation.

Appreciate the prayers, HD!

DH refuses to talk to him since he threatened him with calling the police. Next time he shows up, I might try to talk to him, but he’s a big guy and now feels intimidating.

The only big problem I see about planting hedges is that they grow out on all sides and this would mean that your hedge may grow over his property line, giving him some leeway into trying to get at you, legally via the HOA.

And also, if you think you can just keep the hedges trimmed, he won't be wanting you on his property to do it.

That is why a screen/fence is a better idea than planting something between your property lines. V

Bummer. I really liked those breast melons!

But you’re right about trimming anything- we’d have to step on his driveway to do it.

You need to go to the police first with the above issues that everyone has posted here BEFORE you talk to the neighbor.

You need to set up your situation to your advantage not his, because he will call the police with some made up crap about you guys.

And also, being that he has all the cameras focused on Your Place, he will have plenty of evidence that he can 'finesse' to his liking to make it look like you and your husband are the perps.

So, get over to your local PD like right now, you never know when that crackpot neighbor is going to come home with some 'vain imagining' that he Will Use Against You. (Don't mean to shout, just trying to emphasize to situation.

It's now, from what you posted, at the point where you need to be proactive now before his 'Spring Juices' start to flow.

He may even have an eye on your property and is trying to aggravate you and your husband into doing something rash, that may cause the HOA to place fine after fine on you til you just can't keep up with paying all of the citations.

Then when the people can't pay, the HOA goes after them and sometimes the house ends up in foreclosure, that type of thing.

I have seen this happen too many times in the Forth Worth/Saginaw, TX. neighborhoods.

One person I know, had a narcissist who eyed their property, so this twat got onto the HOA board and tried to make the people I know, lives a living H*ll. The HOA twat didn't realize that the neighbor she had targeted has skills that go way beyond many of the alphie agency personnel's jobs it is to data mine.

So she found out that the HOA twat's husband was a sexual offender on a list in Tarrant county and in another state, couldn't be around children nor have them in his house, and they were having children and grands in their house all the time, in violation.

After she was done with them, the HOA twat and her sexual predator husband had to move out.

So, that plan of theirs went bust in a big way.

So, please, get over to your local PD station and have that talk like Today.

Do not put it off, your neighbor has sent out too many warning signals for you not to ignore. V

Then EXTEND yours to also go all the way to the end of your driveway, as his does. (if I'm understanding you right)

bev, Google "outdoor fake bushes". They are affordable and come in a variety of types and sizes.

Lovingly "plant" your fake bushes in large pots on camera to increase height.

It's one thing if he has a ring doorbell cam that can see your house, it's illegal in many areas to install a camera to specifically stare at "your" property.

Dear Lord I humbly request you set up a hedge of protection around Bev, her family, her chattel and property.

I suggest you get some exterior cameras. I'd want any and all interactions recorded.

I honestly don't understand people who "don't know what to do." It's clear what to do. Take pictures of everything. Record when he shouts at you. Install your own cameras pointing at his house. Write up the issue in detail and see your HOA board. Describe what's happening and show the photos. Take the written description and pictures to the local police dept. Repeat the explanation to them. Document what both the HOA and the police tell you. Hire a lawyer and present all this to him/her.

But first, last and most of all, KEEP YOUR KIDS FROM TOSSING ANYTHING ONTO HIS PROPERTY OR GOING TO GET IT IF THEY DO. Your children don't have the right to do that. If they can't manage to refrain from it, you'll have to either put up a very tall net to catch whatever is headed toward his property, or make them play someplace else such as a park. (Since a net is a "temporary" structure, it should pass HOA.) For example, there are tall nets at the high school's baseball diamond to make sure balls don't go into the crowd.

Further, none of you have the right to "cross his property" (even if "on concrete") without his permission. I re-read the thread in its entirety. Here's what I see: 1) He's hypersensitive and a dick, and 2) YOU are at fault for crossing onto his property. You and the kids.

Here:
Neighbor is not home. He obviously gets some kind of instant notification if someone is in the sights of his cameras, but this was really fast. Like he was just watching them. Maybe he’s notified whenever we use our door. It’s really creeping me out.
The Ring doorbell alerts the person instantly (there's about a 5 second lag as the camera sends the data to the application). They can then speak through the built-in microphone. There's nothing sinister about it. If there are kids crying, maybe they should stay the heck off his property. Maybe you should inform them of the rules when they come over to play.

Really, except for him overreacting, the triggers are all coming from you and your family. You should either stop doing what triggers him (going onto his property) or move.

Note that if someone came into my back yard without permission, you can bet I'd be having a talk with them. I'd be polite the first time. After that, not so much. He's a dick. But YOU are in the wrong.

Sorry to say.
