Prarie Fire: Guidebook For Surviving Civil War 2, by Clay Martin. ISBN 9798697913628. Cloumbia, SC, Publisher Unknown, 2020.

Buy this book.

You might read 30 pages saying yeah, yeah, I know that, but then you will hit something you should have known and didn't. That alone makes it worth your while.

I found out about it last week from a post in WRSA and ordered it immediately. The print date on my copy is 14 November 2020 and I just finished it this morning, 21 Nov 2020. This was not an advance or free copy, I bought it. I got it from Amazon, who is contributing to its own destruction by selling such things, but I was in a hurry. It may be a self published print on demand offering, I don't know. But it is fresh enough for a dead tree or Kindle publication.

Here's what the author has to say-

Earlier this year, I released “Concrete Jungle: A Green Beret’s Guide to Urban Survival,” which you long time readers know was born of my very popular Urban Defense columns right here on GunsAmerica Digest. It was very lucky that I actually had it most of the way ready to go, just in time for the cities to start imploding back in June. Not that I ever wanted to be right on this one, but much of what I said would happen has indeed happened. And the rest is on the horizon.

Since Concrete Jungle was written with the city dweller in mind, another volume was needed. In July, I began work on “Prairie Fire: Guidebook for Surviving Civil War 2,” and am very happy to tell you it was published last week. This one was geared directly to the rural and in-between folks, for what to do when the cities crumble. It is a direct roadmap for how Red counties can survive a Civil War that the Blue counties seem so desperate to start.

Now, this isn’t a thing any of us like to think about, but neither is pulling out a bad tooth. Ignoring the problem won’t make it go away, it will just make it worse. And this isn’t the fringe line of thinking it was at perhaps even the beginning of 2020. Relatively mainstream mouthpieces are calling for Civil War, internment camps for political enemies, and other fun things ranging from reeducation at gunpoint to forced sterilization. And I don’t mean on hidden video. This is what they are saying out loud.

Concrete Jungle updated cover.

Therefore, I felt it incumbent to pass what I learned over the 20 years of GWOT time on to our people as much as I could. Counterinsurgency. Intelligence networking. Offensive and defensive tactics. Organization and employment of troops. But done so in a manner that is accessible to everyone, not like some boring Army manual or idiotic RAND Corp. white paper that is 80% acronyms.

Prairie Fire front and back cover.

There are some other bits that aren’t directly for the GunsAmerica audience but are still useful if you have friends that are new to how we roll. The chapter on choosing weapons is a bad joke to you guys, I’m betting 99% of our normal audience has what I recommend ten times over. But it is another voice to the people that are no doubt scrambling to arm themselves right now, at the height of the panic. It also has chapters on selecting equipment, logistics, and some old pro tricks that even you will find useful.

Lastly, Prairie Fire takes a hard look at the big picture strategic view of what is happening right now. What foreign players may be involved as we speak, as well as who may get involved as the situation escalates. What it means if our farmers can’t get crops harvested next year because we are in a shooting match. And what happens purely if we sideline ourselves as a nation for a few years, on the world stage.

GunsAmerica Digest worthy book mark

None of what is coming is going to be a good time. And I hope for all our sake, I’m very wrong. We can laugh about it over a beer at SHOT Show 2022, since the Bat Flu Cough already canceled 2021. But if I’m not? The window to get yourself and your family ready is very short. Once things start happening in earnest, they are likely to happen fast. “Prairie Fire” is the absolute best I could do at passing on what I know to ensure that you and your family walk out the other side of this intact. If you are like-minded, please give it a read.

It is painful for me to look back at how long I have been gone from the author's old schoolhouse at Ft. Bragg. It's been long enough for a new generation to have graduated, served out a full active duty career, and gone on to new things. Lots of old lessons learned again the hard way and some new stuff too. My main gun skool sensei, Louis Awerbuck, always said "The state of the art is a moving target," and was he ever right.

This is not a fun book to read. It is not post-apocalyptic fiction. Just reading it thoughtfully will make your brain, gut and other parts of your anatomy hurt. But it is homework, and not something than can be skipped with impunity.

I'm in the middle of reading the book now. It has some excellent advice, and much of the advice confirms what I was thinking. One of his points is that depending upon the phase of the insurgency, there will be many, many refugees. No, not refugees from Syria, etc., but refugees from blue cities. Friends and family who are behind enemy lines, who want a temporary place to stay. But as Mr. Martin points out, these temporary visits will ultimately turn into prolonged stays. Thus, we've been constructing a tiny house in our backyard, for those that will eventually be making their way here.

The tactical advice that he writes is backed by many years of front line military duty. This is a "big boys" book, and he doesn't hold back, except when he's been forced to by attorneys. There is foul language, but nothing I haven't heard before. It's an informative read, and he doesn't sugarcoat the material. I'll probably finish it later today. Oh yeah, he gets extra points for referring to "Lucifer's Hammer" and "One Second After."

Doz, I can afford $5.99. I've read some of Clay's articles. He knows his stuff and writes clearly, not one of the frustrated internet wanna-be writers.

If money were not the consideration, but clarity and usefulness of information only, would you select Clay Martin's two books or Jack Lawson's two volume set "CIVIL DEFENSE MANUAL Vols. I & II How to Prepare and Protect Your Neighborhood from Disaster, Riot and Civil Unrest"?

I would suggest the Civil Defense manuals, because they provide more information, and are much more comprehensive. Lawson is also ex-military, so he writes with authority, as does Martin. But Lawson's tomes contain so much information. Clay Martin's book is a quick read compared to the Civil Defense manuals. And the Civil Defense Manuals also have contributing authors, who are experts in their fields, so it's not just one author's knowledge base.

Haven't read Lawson ... can't compare. Martin speaks my language, or vice versa, and his is a good enough approach for anyone who will do the work.

Not much SF stuff has really changed since early days. I have often suggested this mid-1960s training film as a good overview of the Qualification Course graduation exercise-

A WW2 OSS Jedburgh team member would recognize most of this. Note the roles played by local civilians in this exercise.

Today the exercise area is known as Pineland, located in piedmont NC. The exercise is called Robin Sage.

I said this in the last book but it bears reiteration: anyone that starts talking about making bombs, illegal SBRs, machine guns or suppressors is a Fed. If they aren’t a Fed, they are still going to get you pinched by the Feds. Uncle Sugar does not **** around with that silliness. Such a person should immediately be cast out of the group and shunned. Frame this and put it on the wall where ever you do your meetings.

Martin, Clay. Prairie Fire: Guidebook for Surviving Civil War 2 (p. 10). Kindle Edition.

Some wise words from early in the book.

When you watch the news and see a big hula blew about some "terrorist" the FBI arrested, once the dust settles and the truth starts trickling out you start seeing an operative that was involved that was an instigator who in most cases ends up getting off ....

... for even more proof of how the fed's operate read the whole story on Randy Weaver and what happened to him when he wouldn't do what the Fed's wanted

Ordered both. Thank you. I have Lawsons A Failure of Civility and it is very good. There is a ton of info packed in there. One of the things I find funny is that in it he recommends verifying peoples credentials. ie ask for a DD214 if someone claims they are Special Ops. He and the other author wrote it using fake names!! ohn Mosbys Reluctant Partisan Vols 1 and 2. Another one is Hold Your Ground by Joe Nobody. Also Contact but I dont remember the author. THere are also a ton of military manuals available via PDF.

Almost done with Prairie fire.

Will go thru Jungle tomorrow.

RELIC will blitz thru Prairie Fire in about half an hour (she reads SO damn fast!!)

Reason I started with Prairie Fire is I have much more of a rural sensibility but my situation is urban now...damn.

Just ordered both, thanks!

Also Contact but I dont remember the author.

The author of “Contact” is Max Velocity, he wrote another one called, “Tactical Manual, small unit tactics”. Both books are pretty good and Max Velocity is a former British SAS so he does have credentials. He’s also written a few fiction books similar to James Wesley, Rawles “Patriot” series and I’m about halfway through the first one and it ain’t bad. Just like Patriots, it’s crammed full of real world tactics and advice in a fictional commie takeover situation.

This too shall pass.
I got Prairie Fire. Would you recommend I also get the urban one, even though we live very rural? I wouldn't go to an urban area by choice, but I suppose we could end up in one somehow.

Urban tactics in a guerrilla war is a whole different animal than rural. Master what he teaches for your AO (area of operations, sorry) and then consider urban if you think you need to go there. There is a LOT to wrap your head around in this little book.

Rural is bad. Urban is even more complicated. Some of my friends did time in Beirut in the 1970s. Think gang war with territories, RPGs, machine guns and car bombs.

Doz, thanks for these recommendations and to everyone for your thoughts. I also have Lawson's new books wherein he expands into the rural environment from the Failure of Civility manual. I think I'll read Prairie Fire first, though, just because it seems a quicker, although no-less-meaty read.

Oh, it is PLENTY meaty, IF you understand what is being said. Much of it is highly nuanced and built on people skills, not brute force tactics.

Get on your fave search engine and dig up all you can on Pineland and the exercises therein.

Be like water - strike, flow.

Thanks Doz, I'm about halfway through it. Excellent read, I highly recommend it.

The defense in depth example he uses really got me thinking about some things I need to go over with our group. I had always had a much more localized view of defense in depth and this book has changed my perception.

At a little less than halfway through it was more than worth the purchase price.

I think it is worth a read. Living in a small N.E. Washington town where it takes a good hour to get to the nearest Wal-Mart or Mc D's, Prairie Fire seems like the way to go. Lots of Like thinking Vets, Conservatives and "Off Gridders" to share with.

So what does your sheriff think? I've had short conversations with our sheriff but never a sit-down. It's a good idea.

This is an intense book, as you've said. Good stuff. I have to set it down every so often and just consider.

The old saw of Mindset, Skillset and Toolset is front and center in my mind even more nowadays. It's my observation that those folks who are in preparedness have mostly gone about it in reverse: Toolset (stuff), Skillset (maybe learning how to use but not having to apply in anger) and Mindset (just not there, particularly in the urban preppers I've run across but also in us rural ones as well, particularly when we get busy running the place).

I notice lately that Selco in his writings has been hammering almost exclusively on Mindset. I personally appreciate that.

I'm going to expose my own weakness here: Without mindset, tools and skills are pretty much useless and will be nothing but booty for those who'll take advantage of the early chaos. The switch has to be flipped and if one has never flipped it before - I raise my hand first - one just has to believe that the time will make itself evident and I must be ready for the moment.

He had not heard of the book before. We talked a bit about the historic origin of the office (shire reeve) and King Alfred's problems with the Vikings, the origin of the fyrd, etc. Looking ahead, he sees problems no matter what the election outcome.

Mostly he was button popping proud of his older daughter (11), who collected her first buck this past weekend :D.

Regarding the section in the Book "Prairie Fire" which was blacked out: do you have a reading list which would fill in the spot the author was unable to?

A Couple of Ominous Questions Remain. What Kind of Country are We Going to Leave to Our Children and Grandchildren? What Will You Say When They Ask What You Did to Stop the Tyranny and Destruction of Our Republic?

I spent the last week off the grid, no internet, and if I was lucky I could get a text out just to let my wife know I was alive. I had plenty of time to think about things while I was sitting in the woods alone. Reflecting on all that has gone on and what I fear may be coming, it wasn’t pleasant.

It is blatantly obvious, and should be to anyone with a pulse, that this election was stolen. From the mail-in balloting to the Dominion voting machine mess, things just don’t pass the smell test. If you check in on the Mainstream Enemy Media, which you should, this thing is over. They are laughing at Trump for his baseless claims with no evidence produced to back him up. It is really quite telling to see the level of disrespect that has been ramped up towards him since they anointed Biden the Presidency.

“But Sidney Powell, Lin Wood and Rudy Giuliani assure us they have the goods and we need to keep the faith.” I’ve heard that kind of crap for four years now. Did Hillary get locked up? Did Trump drain the swamp? Comey, Brennan, McCabe, Strzok, Page, Holder, etc. Any of those communist been arrested for their crimes that we all know and have seen committed? I, like you, want to believe that there is some great war playing out in the shadows that is going to bring the Deep State to it’s knee’s and have them begging for mercy. I do, I REALLY DO! But the fact of the matter is, so far no evidence of this has been brought to light or discussed seriously in the MSM. Trumps attorneys have been losing court battle after court battle and not one case has made it to the Supreme Court. That being said I am still making a donation to the fight.

Here’s the thing, Trump is not going to save us, he never was. He was our last ditch effort at reminding our Government Representatives who they work for and who is actually in charge. We have been warning our Government for a long time now, however it seems those warnings have fallen on deaf ears. The Deep State is DEEP! Right down to the local level. There is only going to be one way to root out this evil.
save_you.jpg

Our Founders were willing to die for the rights espoused in the Declaration they crafted and signed at their own peril. Their document boldly proclaimed our right to live in freedom, a freedom to be protected, not threatened, by the rule of the government. The basic rights and freedoms enumerated in the Declaration of Independence included the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These rights were God-given and could not be eliminated even by a King or a Government. Now it’s our time. Our time to pledge our lives, fortunes, and sacred honor.

It is startling that the injustices that led to the revolution pale in comparison to what we are witnessing today. It was heavy-handed authoritarian control and unfair laws our founders were against! There are many similarities between today’s issues and the issues the colonies experienced leading up to the declaration. You want to talk about taxation without representation, we’ve been past that point for some time now.

Most of the time a man will tell you his intentions, good or bad, if you’ll just listen hard enough. I think back to all the things I have said and written and others as well.
Election Theft = War

I will fight not because I desire it, but because I cannot justify any other course of action – when the enemy attacks, you must fight – you must kill or you will die.

This country is done! Pick your side. Choose wisely. Prepare for the most brutal war that this world has ever seen. It’s coming. I don’t think anything stops it now. Hopefully we can set things right if we win, or at least die trying.

The fight is unavoidable at this time. Freedom is on the line. The whole world is on the line. This is it boys, if America falls to this coup, darkness will take over the world. We owe these traitors nothing: not respect, not decency, nor mercy. We Owe Them Nothing!!!

The time for talk is over. Sides have been chosen. Their side is openly at War. We just wanted to be left alone to raise our families in peace. Sadly they are not going to give us that option.
This is our time. It’s why we are here at this point in time in history. It’s what we were born for. It’s time to fight for freedom.
These are not idle threats. I believe myself and others who have voiced their opinions are ready to make their stand. We are at a moment in time where everything is on the line. For the whole world, not just us. They have used a virus with a 99.6% survival rate to terrify the nation and also used it to help steal an election. Two crucial dates are approaching. December 14th and January 20th. The communist are making their play for the country and it’s going to be up to us normal folks to do something about it.
People keep expecting a leader to come out and lead the whole nation in this fight. I got news for you, I don’t think that is going to happen. We are on our own. This is going to be a balkanization. You may get leaders in your individual counties, but that may be about as far as it goes at first. Our founders were called terrorist and radicals when they rebelled, but soon they gained momentum and the people joined them. This will be no different. I can’t imagine the things our media will say and do once this fight for Freedom begins. Remember the media is not your friend, ever. They deserve to die a traitors death along with the others.
300leader.jpg

This corruption throughout our country must be eliminated, right down to the very smallest of local levels. It’s not going to be pretty. Millions of gallons of blood must run the streets. Once this starts it going to be messy like nothing you’ve never seen. Best harden your hearts and get your mind wrapped around that. Do not even think of shedding a tear for them. They are enemies of our Republic and they hate everything that we cherish and stand for. We tried doing things the right way. We have exhausted all our options. The cartridge box is all that is left now.
When it comes down to it many Americans simply don’t have the spine or fortitude to stand up and fight, even with liberty on the line. There are those among us that say nothing will happen as long as the power stays on and people have food in their stomachs. I guess we are close to finding out who will be right on that point also. Each individual is about to have to make some hard choices. There will be no peaceful transition of power this time, although they never peacefully transferred when Trump won. For neither side is going to accept the outcome, no matter which way it falls.

A couple of ominous questions remain. What kind of country are we going to leave to our children and grandchildren? What will you say when they ask what you did to stop the tyranny and destruction of our Republic?
